A hidden gem! In the heart of old town/downtown Oxnard, parking is a little challenging on the street but there might be more in back? This is an incredible breakfast spot! But their menu is huge! And not just breakfast! My husband stumbled upon BG's a few weeks ago and just loved it! So... with great pride he took me here for breakfast and it was so good! The service was great, we were offered drinks right away (sadly they were out of orange juice) and after our drinks were brought out we sat for quite a while before anyone came to take our order. My husband had to actually make a point to say "we're ready". Honestly throughout our meal our server was very friendly and attentive. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 wasn't because of that but rather what they charged us for our 12 oz iced teas at $4 each. Way overpriced! BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse only charges $2.79. The French toast is made with thick French toast bread (not the thin stuff) It says it's dipped in orange vanilla batter but I didn't taste orange or vanilla. My husband and I love this place and have been going there for breakfast for years. The owner, Jose, takes pride in helping the staff and also welcoming his customers, so we feel like family going there. WALKED OUT! Unless they know you... your service will be average... if you get any. Family and I come here every so often and the food is good, nothing special. However this particular Sunday we came, sat down and never got attended. We sat there for like 30 minutes. Every table around us had multiple waiters going over and laughing and even the owner came by our table to laugh it up with a buddy. But we continued to get ignored. If they know you I'm sure you'll get great service. But they will not go out of their way if you're just a regular customer. Once we got up and left we let the owner know that we had been ignored and we were leaving... he then chased us outside of the restaurant!! followed us to our car saying to come back.
