I host a social group of about 30 - 40 people that meets monthly in the evening from 8PM to 11PM. I called the Tavern and spoke with Katie, the event director, who said we were quite welcome and seemed happy to have us choose their venue. We enjoyed the venue for a few months. Good drinks and good food. Plenty of seating outside. It was a good fit for our group. Was quite a surprise when last night we arrived to find a private event happening. I realize that the Tavern hosts private events, I saw that on the website. Neither Katie nor I discussed the possibility of a conflict when I spoke with her, so part of this is on me, but as the event coordinator, most of it was on her. Doesn't she have a main calendar for events? Because if she does, we weren't on it. The security fetched Katie, and she matter-of-factly stated that they were hosting a private event, so the venue was not available. She never apologized, seemed to not care that we had 30-40 people showing up at a place that was now unavailable to us. She stated, again matter-of-factly with no apology, that it was wedding season and events were her priority. So, the Tavern? Probably a great place for events, and a fun bar with good food, but their event coordinator definitely needs better communication and better organization. We will no longer be meeting there, needless to say. read more

Terrible loud club music for brain dead teens blaring in rooms decorated for sophisticated lounge music. TLDR: great rooms with great vibe ruined by low quality DJ in the next room piped in to every room. 5 stars for decor. 1 for music. read more

Pretty cool spot, looks like a house and most of the seating is in the backyard area and there is even corn hole. I would say not to go here on a Saturday afternoon if you are trying to chat and get to know friends because they have a DJ and BLAST the music, you can barely hear over it. If you want a place to dance, this is probably more the spot to go. There was a massive line to get in as we were leaving late at night. As a true local Ventura County girlie .... I am going to show my age but I don't care! I first remember this spot as Candlelight but I'm sure it was something before that. A few years later it rebranded to The Tavern. In my 20s... it was the spot to party for my group and we had the times of my lives! Climbing those stairs to wait in line to use the restroom was not fun but Imade a lot of memories in this building . Hahhahahaha! So happy it's back to life with The Victorian Tavern. It is gorgeous and they have bathrooms downstairs. Thank you, Jesus! Love all the space indoors and the vibes. The patio is nice too with plenty of fire pits/ heat lamps to keep you warm if the booze doesn't. We stopped in for Happy Hour after a long week at work. Now their Happy Hour is real , 5-8pm, Thursday to Sunday. Apps are 50% off and cocktails are too. We shared the beef sliders -$7, Truffle Fries-$5, Arancini Fritters-$7 between two. I got the Cactus Blaze but subbed the mezcal for tequila -$7, another drink I can't remember-$7 and a vodka soda -$5. My friend got a few drinks too all for $6/7 ! The Tavern is back people! Now as the elevated and stunning Victorian Tavern. A much needed and soon to be adored addition to downtown Ventura. The Victoria tavern is simply stunning. It's moody with a library nook entrance and old tavern type of a feel. But then the bar is lively With a beautiful floral background and fun decor. I love that there is limited seating inside in some ways as it gives more of a lounge and hangout vibe. They also have a traditional Bar top which feels inviting and cozy. A semi hidden pool table area near the bar. This is a tavern worth exploring. It's a large property and I read that it's going to be used for renting event spaces and such in the future so that's very cool that the bar and venue is multi purpose. Shoutout to my yelp bestie Jessica B. for stumbling in with me to try some cocktails. We really had the best time and we loved all of the cocktails that we were able to sample. Shoutout to our new favorite bartender Jamie! She's an absolute doll and she was probably one of our favorite things about this bar. She was such a sweetheart, so welcoming and she put up with our newbie questions. She makes a stellar cocktail and she's a truly knowledge mixologist. We adored her and would come back just to be served by her again because she was truly awesome. Service was a 10/10! Now on to the cocktails. Delicious, fun, and innovative! Yes they have well drinks and beers but you really need to come here for the stellar cocktail menu and specials. My friend and I loved the different cocktails we tried. They were well balanced and also pretty. An Instagram worthy menu! I started with a prickly pear Margarita (off menu) and it was exactly how I like it. A little sweet, a little sour - perfection in a pink cup. For my second drink I tried their Neon Lizard. Gin, cucumber, lime: super refreshing you really can't go wrong with a drink like this. Cocktails were A+. Overall this spot is off to a great start having only been open three weeks. Ventura is super lucky to have this spot and I'm eager to come back. They have a brunch and small bites menu which all read pretty tasty. They also have very good happy hour specials and pricing. More details to come but if you are in downtown you need to try this spot. Open four days a week, Thursday - Sunday, it's a great weekend pick me up. Hospitality, service, ambiance, cocktails and decor were a 5/5 in my books. Hoping they will only keep the momentum going from here because this place rocks. read more

~ MODERN TAVERN WITH A MOODY TWIST ~ A friend and I stumbled upon this gem, and we're so glad we did! From the moment you arrive, it's obvious that a lot of thought and care went into the renovation. It's definitely going to be the new hot spot in downtown Ventura--and bonus, it's super Instagrammable! The outdoor area is filled with lush greenery and cozy spots to sit, whether you're with a date or a group of friends. For being open only a few weeks, it already looks stunning, and I can easily see it getting even more popular as the weather warms up. As we walked in, I immediately fell for the hallway lined with books--such a unique and magical touch! Inside, the space opens up into a large room with low lighting and stylish decor, creating a chic, modern tavern vibe. The bar is spacious with plenty of seating, both at the bar as well as small tables/couches, and there's also a separate room with a pool table. We didn't get to explore everything, but I heard there's much more to check out, so I'll definitely be back! As soon as we walked in, bartender Jamie greeted us with a big smile and great energy. She was super friendly, answered all our questions, and mixed up some delicious cocktails! I loved the Prickly Pear Margarita (off the menu) and Copper Disco (similar to a Moscow mule)-- both were perfectly balanced and had a nice kick. We were headed to dinner, but would've ordered some appetizers if we had more time. I definitely recommend stopping by during happy hour for great deals. This place denied a person in my party last night. Guy in the front tried the say the second guy wouldn't let us in. Such a lie the guy in the front made a gesture so our party wouldn't be let in. We never got a reason or explanation and it felt very odd. If I could give 0 stars I would. 0/10 would not want to back to this establishment if this is how they treat customers. read more

We went in 3 of us at 9:00pm on a Sunday night - the kitchen was still open and we had burgers that were pretty large and tasted pretty good. bartender was very attentive and music was very chill - place was pretty empty and has a very cool vibe. I would have given it higher marks but went to use the bathroom and it was plugged and disgusting. read more

The outdoor ambiance is very nice, and its a nice place to chill. Brunch is really affordable. We had the breakfast bagel and avocado toast. They also have bottomless mimosas and burgers. Breakfast was not crowded at all and it could be a good spot for people with kids and dogs since the outdoor areas are spacious. read more

Very, very slow service. Fast casual service and it took 75 minutes to get 2 rounds of cocktails and an appetizer. The appetizer took 50ish minutes. It was happy hour and the first round wasn't discounted so when I pointed it out, the bartender fished out $6 from the tip bucket. It should have been $8 plus tax and tip. I don't think I'm coming back anytime soon and wont be recommending it. read more

Love the revamp of this location. Great decor, huge location so plenty of spaces to hang out in, and drinks were good. The service at the bar wasn't the best and it wasn't even that crowded when we were trying to order. Will be returning to try more of their offerings and cool vibes! read more

I'm soooo happy The Tavern is back! This was one of my favorite spots back in the day. The decor is unique, the outdoor space is awesome. Stopped in for a quick drink and snack during happy hour a few weeks ago. I can't remember the name of the drink (yellow, served in a martini glass with a dehydrated slice of fruit on top) but it was tasty! Arancini was good too (with the right expectations of arancini in a bar environment). Happy hour pricing is unbeatable, but worth it at standard pricing as well. We played a quick game of cornhole and pool. I was sad to see how slow it was on a Sunday afternoon, really hoping word gets around to people like me who have been missing it for years and to the younger generation who may not naturally come across it since it's not right on Main Street! I stopped in on my way back to the city from the Montecito hot springs. I was looking for a worthy happy hour spot, and Ventura is where it was at. When TVT popped up, I knew this was the one. The decorum immediately captivated me; how illustrious, I thought. Parking was a shameless breeze. There are 4 hour lots available for the free, street parking for the free and metered parking available. Because it's located in Ventura county, it's not a production enduring a park. Jamie, the bartender graciously greeted me upon entering and immediately made me feel right at home. She quite literally encouraged me to explore, and I did just that. The music selection captivated me in an instance. It was giving soul and funk, which sweetened the experience for me on a personal note. I couldn't help, but to dance; it was indubitable. TVT is humongous inside and out. It would be an idea spot to celebrate a birthday, or anything, really. Fire pits, they've got FIRE PITS too. The patio, and backyard are just as charming as inside for cozy connections. There are countless nooks you can tuck yourself into and you won't get lost in the sauce. I got checked on multiple times with ease. Happy hour is actually happy hour'ing from their impressive food selected to their crafted cocktails. The price points are beyond fair and will leave you feeling warm and fuzzy within. The decorum has an old timey feel with vintage trinkets, what appeared to be first editions and a Photo Booth in the cut dressed down with classic pin ups. There's an eclectic feel that offers sanctuary to kick back and read, chill, chat or simply vibe. There's a little bit of everything, for everyone. They even had foosball along with other games including, but not limited to pool readily available to get competitive. Plinko sits tall next to the bar for $10/a play with playful, generous options. Taxidermy hug the walls which I kinda feel is a generous mention, if you're sensitive to that sorta thing. Did I mention Jamie came to check on me despite my being folded away into a figurative cranny? If I resided closer, I'd be a regular here. I intend on finding any excuse possible to return; I will be returning. When I do, I will undoubtedly be dancing the night away. TVT is the shiiiiii, or remarkable if we're gonna be proper about it :). read more

I came here last Sunday afternoon with a group of friends for the first time since they reopened and I had such a great time. We ordered the sliders with some tots and the food really hit the spot. Simple but delicious! We played pool in their cozy pool room by the warm fireplace and it was so nice. The staff was incredibly friendly and attentive, the drinks were delicious and the vibe was very laid back for a sunday. They also were extremely helpful when it came to returning my pool sticks as I had forgotten them there. Overall great people, great food, great drinks and great staff and ownership! I hope to see this place booming with business and reenergizing the ventura nightlife :) read more
