I asked him what his favorite meals were and went with his recommendations--I went with the Pollo Purepecha and the Mole Short Ribs-they were absolutely delicious. He also made one of the best espresso martinis I've ever had! What really stood out, though, was the service. Everyone was incredibly attentive. Someone was always checking in to see if I needed anything and asking how they could be of service. I never felt like I was waiting for anything, which made the entire experience feel relaxed and effortless. To top it all off, the views were absolutely on point. Flora Loca Rooftop Cantina is Oxnard's newest rooftop hotspot and the girls and I finally checked it out for a much needed girls night. First things first...they absolutely nailed the space. It's a tropical little oasis with fun, vibrant decor, views, and the kind of atmosphere that makes you want to stay for "just one more drink" (at least that's what we found ourselves saying all night). Speaking of cocktails...I was genuinely impressed by the drink menu. I ordered the Flora Loca Margarita and if you love guava, this one's for you. It was refreshing, perfectly balanced, and basically made for warm summer nights. 10/10. For my second cocktail I tried the Ube colada and it wasn't quite what I thought it would be (was picturing more a frozen colada drink) 7/10. As for the food...we didn't leave a single crumb behind. Our favorites: Tempura Elote Bites - Easily my favorite dish of the night. Lightly fried, packed with flavor, and paired with the most incredible sweet corn cream dipping sauce. 10/10. Sweet Potato Asada Fries - Our server Alex suggested swapping the regular fries for sweet potato, and that was 100% the move. Such a fun twist on a classic, and the asada was incredibly flavorful and cooked perfectly. 9/10. We had a couple of different mains and I ordered the chicken adobo burrito. It was definitely good and packed with lots of toppings but for over $20 I would rather stick to a local taco shop burrito. 7/10. Yes, we managed to rack up quite the bill, Over $200 for three gals but after multiple rounds of cocktails, appetizers, entrees, hours of nonstop yapping, and rooftop views overlooking Oxnard, I'd say it was worth every penny. Lastly, I have to give a huge shoutout to our server, Alex. She was absolutely phenomenal. Every recommendation she made was spot on, and you could genuinely tell how passionate she is about both the menu and creating a great experience for her guests. She made an already amazing night feel extra special, and that's something you don't forget. Not impressed. The view was beautiful and the ambiance was cool, but unfortunately, the food did not live up to the setting. The menu felt very American-Mexican, and the fajitas had to be one of the smallest portions of fajitas I've ever seen. The avocado didn't taste very fresh, and overall, the portions were underwhelming for the price. The drinks were definitely made to look pretty, but the flavor just wasn't there--they were bland. I also happened to see that they hosted an influencer event, but honestly... I was not influenced. It feels like they're trying a little too hard to create an aesthetic instead of focusing on the food. The restaurant has potential, but it needs more soul, flavor, and authentic Mexican influence. I have been here twice now. It is hit and miss. The service is fantastic but the food is not that great and it's expensive. We had the fajitas for 2 ($60!!) we chose asada and mushrooms for our "proteins". The type of mushrooms they are using are not right for this type of food. Very woodsy. The tortillas are handmade and good but they only offer corn tortillas. The beans were bland. We tried a chicken dish with elote cream sauce on it. The chicken was moist but the entire dish lacked any flavor. The sauce did not taste like anything. The chips and salsa (there is a charge for that) and guacamole are good. All the desserts are delicious. Sometimes your $20 cocktails come in a beautiful glass and sometimes they come in a plastic cup. Takes away from the experience. read more

Hello everyone! SUNDAY, AUGUST 9 2026. Let's start with ambiance- super cool roof top access ( I recommend the mountain side versus the south/west facing freeway traffic). The outdoor art motif is kinda cool. I think the design with the round tables on the side is very limiting , especially because you want to look out at the scenery. The Food: Darn! I Wanted it to be good...alas, it was subpar at best... perhaps great for a college students; But not really because I doubt they could afford the menu. We started with the sweet potato carne Asada fries.. huge disappointment for me, my daughter and wife were not impressed, but not totally poo pooing it either. We also ordered the chicken sandwich, the burger and the mushroom and carne Asada tacos. The food was "all" very bland. The ceasar salad looked lovely , but unfortunately lacked any flavor whatsoever. Out of the beer on tap...they were out of the two I was willing to try (of course)... The true highlight was our lovely young waitress ( Merry) Who was kind, attentive, humorous, engaging and professional. (She even got us a discount after I expressed how utterly disappointed I was). NOW, despite the overall negative experience we had. I would give it one more try, but until then I could not in good conscience recommend the food here. And as for the alcohol/ beer being out...well, maybe it was the reps fault, maybe the keg order was screwed up? Back to the food... the burger was mostly bun, dry bun. The fries were standard, the accouterments were also lacking in flavor, the jalapeños were all vinegar. The chicken sandwich was wet almost too slimy with no flavor, more of just "filler" food. The rooftop atmosphere here is what first drew me in, and it definitely delivered. With great views, a fun cantina vibe, and genuinely friendly, attentive service, it was an enjoyable place to spend the evening with friends. Unfortunately, there were a few issues with our visit. It was a warm day and there were no umbrellas at the tables that we were seated at. This left us baking in the sun and most people were using their menus as shade to cover their faces. Luckily we were able to sit in the area that had coverage, but just be aware it's a limited seating area. I recommend when making a reservation, to ask to be seated in the shady area. Especially if you're sensitive to the sun. It was also extremely windy on our visit. I know that's out of the restaurants control, but just be aware that wind is a factor too. Could be why they don't have umbrellas. Also, the pricing took away from what could have been a standout experience. I ordered just one appetizer and one cocktail, and my total came to around $50 before I even considered the automatically added gratuity for our party of four. While I understand rooftop venues often come with premium pricing, I personally didn't feel the portion size and overall value justified paying $60 after tax and tip. The $18 cocktail I had was served in a small plastic cup and barely tasted like it had alcohol in it. The asada fries were decent, but the fish tacos were my favorite here! Perfectly seasoned and the fish was delicious. The tres queso fundido is also a great appetizer to try. Highly recommend those! The service was excellent, and the atmosphere made for a fun night out, but the pricing left me questioning whether I'd return. If value is important to you, it's something to keep in mind before visiting. Overall, it was still an enjoyable experience despite the cons and I'm glad we finally got to check it out. read more

I went with my amiga on a Friday night and the food/drinks were a 5/5. Highly rec the short rib mole and asada fajitas! The spare rib mole is different and tasty. My only critic were the tortillas. I didn't love the flavor but it's a matter of preference. Portions are great. My friend and I had leftovers. Drinks are refreshing and around $15- 18. They treated us to a birthday dessert (horchata ice cream) as we were celebrating a belated bday. It was gloomy, however love being able to enjoy a night out up top of our beautiful City of Oxnard! Also .. not because it is Mexican food it has to be cheap. It's on top a of hotel and typically, hotel restaurants are a bit more or pricer but I don't think Flora Loca is insanely expensive. We didn't have to pay for parking & we had no problem finding a spot. A note for those of us that find joy in everything ... yes there's a freeway but the sunset is gorgeous. I was super excited to try this place, and even more thrilled to discover it was officially open during my birthday weekend! Flora Loca is located on the rooftop/5th floor of the SpringHill Suites in Oxnard. Although we didn't have a reservation for early Friday evening, we were seated immediately. Crystal, our server, was phenomenal in expressing her approval of the food and drink we ordered, letting us know how much she enjoyed it. She also checked on us several times throughout the meal to see if we needed anything. We ordered the baby corn elote, fajitas for two (adobo chicken and carne asada), plus the flora loca and carried away cocktails. The fajitas came with rice and beans, plus a strawberry-infused salsa on the side. The adobo chicken was a bit dry, but the carne asada was seasoned perfectly and tender. The strawberry salsa gave the fajitas a nice little kick in taste. The rice also complimented the fajitas, but the black beans seemed to be lacking in flavor. The flora loca margarita and carried away cocktails were fruit-forward and refreshing. My favorite part of the meal was the baby elote, topped with mayo, house-made corn sauce, and other toppings. I loved this so much that I had to make sure my husband and I enjoyed an equal split of the baby corn so one person didn't have more than the other. Apparently, my protests of "but it's my birthday weekend" were met with protests about the fact that we were having other meals over the next few days in honor of my birthday. I tried, though, to sneak extra corn when my husband's head was turned to no avail. I would 100% reorder this as an appetizer. Finally, when the servers found out I was celebrating my birthday, they brought us horchata ice cream for dessert. Now, I've never had the pleasure of eating horchata ice cream, but wow, it made my mouth water. It was that good. Even now, my mind is flashing back to eating baby corn elote and horchata ice cream, and I wish I could travel back in time to relive those moments. Understandably, Flora Loca may be overlooking the freeway, the Chick-fil-A, and some other mundane locations, but I don't care. If you didn't already know, Flora Loca is officially open. When Oxnard gets something shiny and new, the word spreads quickly. The anticipation for the arrival of its first ever rooftop patio lounge has been the talk of the town for months. This place is magical and not just for the views. Unless you were ever lucky enough to get a view out of the now closed Tower Club, this may be the second best thing. We had a Friday evening reservation for 6pm so we could check out the sunset. We are very familiar knowing how the winds can pickup so close to the riverbed and deeply appreciate the accommodations for heaters and blankets for the patrons from the staff. We ordered cocktails and appetizers based on our servers recommendations. Signature cocktails: La Flora Loca Carried Away Desert Rosado Sour For food we ordered a variety to share: Baby Corn Elote Spicy Tuna Tostada along with Entrees:Pollo Purépecha Mole Short Rib I was impressed with the level of service we received in addition to the quality of food and drinks. Our server Alexandria was extraordinary. Highly recommend to check out this unique new addition to our area. But be warned, they are enforcing a dress code and reservations are highly recommended. Celebrated my birthday at Ventura County's newest rooftop gem, Flora Loca, and I am officially obsessed! The views are gorgeous, and the vibrant, warm atmosphere (complete with fire and heating lamps) means you get the rooftop vibe without the chill. The Sunset All Day margarita and Old Fashioned were delicious, the Mini Elotes and Molé short ribs were to die for, and they surprised me with the most incredible, rich horchata ice cream for my birthday. Huge shoutout to our amazing server who made the night so grand. This place completely sets itself apart from anywhere else in the area. We found our new spot! (3/5) My wife and I recently visited Flora Loca Rooftop, and while there were some highlights, the overall experience didn't quite meet our expectations. We started with drinks. I ordered the Cloudfull cocktail, and my wife ordered one of their pink cocktails (I don't remember the name). Both drinks had beautiful, elegant presentations and tasted great. The bar definitely seems to be one of the restaurant's strengths. For appetizers, we ordered the chips and guacamole along with the elote. The appetizers were just okay. The guacamole lacked flavor and didn't taste very authentic, while the elote was decent but nothing particularly memorable. For our entrées, I ordered the mole and my wife ordered the aguachiles. The food was good, but not something that stood out. The portion size for the aguachiles seemed small--about enough to enjoy with a single tostada. Overall, the food was average and left us expecting more. In fact, we were still hungry after dinner and ended up stopping for sushi afterward, which was disappointing considering the price we paid. The service, however, was excellent. The staff was welcoming, attentive, and made us feel well taken care of throughout our visit. The atmosphere was another mixed experience. I understand the relaxed rooftop lounge concept, but eating dinner on couches with food served on a low coffee table wasn't comfortable. I found myself constantly leaning forward and crouching to eat, which took away from what could have been a more enjoyable dining experience. Since this is a newer restaurant, I came in with high expectations. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed by the limited menu selection, and I also didn't notice any happy hour menu or specials, which seems like a missed opportunity for a rooftop venue. The biggest surprise was the bill. For two people, with one drink each, two appetizers, and one entrée each, our total came to $158 after the automatic 20% gratuity. In my opinion, that's hard to justify considering the overall quality and portion sizes. Would I come back? Maybe for drinks and the rooftop ambiance, but probably not for dinner or a special date night. SERVICE Vibe is everything. Colors are joyful. View is cool. As it is positioned at the top of a hotel, SpringHill Suites, parking can be good or bad for you. It's Oxnard which means high winds so to attempt this business adventure - respect lol. Passing out little blankets for guest to borrow is a smart and creative bonus. Nice playlist. All the staff were nice. Restrooms were kept clean. For sure a photo op spot. FOOD I ordered Carne Asada street tacos. I enjoyed them. Had the soaked/pickled veggies on the side. I can't do heat but was hanging in there lol. Good flavor and would order again. We also had the Tajín flavored margarita which we disliked. This was not because it's bad but we're not Mexican and we respect and understand that is a popular seasoning typically used and it just didn't hit our pallet in an awesome way. Just not accustomed to it, but glad we dried it, right, why not. Ordered a regular margarita afterwards and it was Strong and Long (aka very good). Also ordered the Mole Short Rib. I don't like short rib but my guy who does thought it was good but disliked the sauce. Chips and guac were really good. All the food was plated beautifully. WELL I am for sure returning and why wouldn't I? Ok, honestly I'm going back in a week or so with another friend. This is Oxnards FIRST rooftop spot people. We're making history. LISTEN, the place is new, as in it just opened up days ago. Give them grace. The staff and crew need time to get the swing of things, how they want to work, how to get things to flow, how to handle a rush, how to handle strong winds taking over, how, how, how. So, chill out. Now, 6 months from now, fine. But for now let's take this in. I too am open for some small pops of live music here and there, but I don't think this place needs that and not often, the vibe is too sophisticated-chilled. Seen this off the freeway for few months now. Went there a few days ago. I was truly amazed that this exist in this area. The service staff that served us were so well trained, and the food was amazing. I especially love the tacos which we ordered the fish tacos, which were a seasonal fish. The concept fits very well. It's a Ventura vibe Mexican restaurant which California influences which you can see throughout the menu. We also had the shrimp ceviche and baby corn will say this is some of the best Mexican food I've had in a long time. , love how the menu is not super generic, Cocktails were also yummy. I would give zero stars if it was possible... I really wanted to like this place, but I have to be honest--I left very disappointed. The food had virtually no flavor. It was so bland that it tasted like it was made without salt, pepper, or any seasoning at all. We waited an hour and a half just to get our carne asada fries, which is completely unacceptable. The service was even more disappointing. Our waitress brought our drinks and then it honestly felt like we were forgotten. We spent most of our time waiting instead of being checked on. The one positive is the ambience. The decor is nice, and the music creates a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, a beautiful space can't make up for poor food and poor customer service. If this bar wants to succeed in this area, they really need to step up their game. Great ambience may get people through the door once, but good food and attentive service are what bring customers back. Sadly, this experience missed the mark on both. Then there's a 20% gratuity attached so we have to tip for crappy service and very bland food Tina needs more training she supposedly an experienced server um I don't know if I agree with that. Decor and atmosphere was very nice! My gf and I reserved a 5 o'clock table, I would suggest to others to go after sundown to enjoy the rooftop lights. I also noticed that most of the patrons dressed up a bit, as did we, and really adds to the vibe. The cocktails were good, but considering they were small portions, it seemed like they barely had 1 oz of liquor (I enjoyed the Strawberry Suite & the Flora Loca margarita). Slightly disappointing considering there were almost $20 a piece. My friend got the carne asada tacos because she was excited to try the homemade tortillas. She was a little bit let down and didn't finish them. I got the asada fries. The carne asada was very good! Cooked perfectly and flavors were there. But the plate over all was a little bland. Fries needed salt as did the verde sauce they use. I also substituted the sweet potato fries that they come with. I DO enjoy sweet potato fries on occasion! But to me they just don't seem to go with asada fries. That substitution costs you an additional $3. At most restaurants you are usually paying to substitute for sweet potato fries, I almost feel like this place intentionally has sweet potato fries, KNOWING no one would like it, so they can charge for regular potatoes. Our server Taylor was very nice. The perfect balance of being attentive, yet not asking you questions mid chew. Overall it's an ok experience. Will try again with my SO for a date night, after sundown to enjoy that particular atmosphere. We got sat down food was flowing, We told service we we celebrating 16 years and also staying hotel. Our server Mark made us feel welcome but towards the end of our dinner we got forgot about , all our plates were taken, I told Mark we are celebrating so we would like to just relax and enjoy drinks, but unfortunately he didn't return till 35 min later , to check on us , our drinks turned to water as ice melted, he would check on tables surrounding us but would walk away , at end of night we ended up at shake shack , I feel with better service we truly would of had a great anniversary but unfortunately didn't end that great read more

Our server was friendly, attentive, and took great care of us throughout the meal. The drinks were excellent. Have now been to this place twice. Nicely decorated, fun vibe, attractive bar space. Food is good and well prepared, and cocktails are great. Loved the Cloudfall cocktail, the strawberry salsa with chips and mole short rib. The first time I went, mid week a couple of weeks ago, everything was spot on. Last night, a Sunday, the place was packed, and though the server was friendly, getting drinks and water and food to the table was not well coordinated, with delays and incorrect items. I'm unclear how much of that was the server and how much was back up or errors at the bar/kitchen. She quickly remedied items when asked but she did seem stretched too thin, with too few bus and wait staff. The final bill was correct (we weren't charged for incorrect items or missed items). Our server which I did not remember his name was super knowledgeable and really appreciate the Ventura Mexican vibe the restaurant offers. Loved the flan in particular. We were there during the soft opening, and everyone was so friendly, and I can really tell that they have their heart in this which I appreciate. We tend to drive by this area quite often and I've never had such a great experience dining hopefully, we'll see more of them soon. read more

Since Flora Loca has only been open about a month hard to really be too harsh. Incredibly windy (apparently most of the time). Service both for bar and food was grindingly slow. Small portionns. Expensive. If they are still open in six monhs, will give it another try. Hope they get it together. read more

My family's first time here. We had reservations at 7:30pm so we could see the sunset. Tina was our waitress. She provided us we impeccable service. Very professional and friendly. Where do I even begin? Unfortunately, this experience was not unforgettable it was unforgivable. As locals, we were genuinely excited to try this rooftop bar and had hoped it would become one of our go-to spots. Instead, we left feeling disrespected, unwelcome, and honestly shocked by how guests were treated. Finding the venue was the first challenge. You have to enter through the hotel lobby, navigate to the elevators, and make your way to the top floor. There was little to no signage and no one directing guests, making the arrival more confusing than it needed to be. Once upstairs, the hostess greeted us and asked if we had a reservation. We didn't, and she immediately offered what was essentially the least desirable table in the restaurant--a dark corner against the wall where you couldn't enjoy the view or atmosphere. It honestly felt like an afterthought, almost as if guests without reservations were meant to be hidden away. I asked when the next reservation was scheduled, and she told me 7:30 p.m. It was only 7:08 p.m., so I had her put us down for 7:30. Instead, despite having multiple reserved tables available, she insisted on seating us in the same undesirable location. After requesting literally anywhere else, we were moved to what felt like the second least desirable table. At that point, we decided to make the best of it. This outing was especially meaningful because my best friend was celebrating my birthday. Unfortunately, the uncomfortable atmosphere began almost immediately. No guest should feel like they're inconveniencing a business simply by walking through the door. Our server, however, deserves recognition. He was kind, attentive, professional, and genuinely did everything he could to provide good service. He was easily the highlight of the evening. What stood out just as much was watching who appeared to be either the owner or manager interacting with the staff. He was dressed far more casually than the restaurant's upscale atmosphere suggested, but more concerning was the way he spoke to employees. The interactions came across as unnecessarily hostile and tense. You could sense the discomfort among the staff, and it created an uneasy environment for guests as well. It felt like employees were working under pressure rather than enjoying their jobs, and that energy carried throughout the restaurant. Our drinks were excellent beautifully presented and enjoyable enough that we ordered a second round. By this point, we had been there for just over an hour. Then everything took a turn. Shortly after delivering our second drinks, our server approached us looking genuinely apologetic. He explained that because we didn't have a reservation, we needed to leave within five minutes because the party who had reserved our table had arrived. To say we were confused would be an understatement. We had been seated by the hostess, had ordered multiple rounds of drinks, were respectful to the staff, kept our voices appropriate for the setting, and had done absolutely nothing that would warrant being asked to leave. We had literally just received our second cocktails, nearly $20 each, and suddenly our dining experience was being cut short. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we had asked about the reservation time before being seated. If the table was only available temporarily, that should have been communicated clearly from the beginning so we could decide whether we wanted to stay. Instead, we were encouraged to settle in, order additional drinks, and then abruptly told to leave moments after those drinks arrived. In most restaurants, when a reserved table isn't immediately available, the arriving party is simply asked to wait a few minutes. I've never experienced a business interrupt someone else's meal or drinks and ask them to leave after they had already been seated and served. It was embarrassing, awkward, and completely unnecessary. The issue wasn't that we didn't have a reservation, it was the complete lack of communication, professionalism, and courtesy. We were treated as though our business mattered only until someone else walked through the door. Customer service isn't just about serving food and drinks; it's about making guests feel welcome and respected. Unfortunately, that was entirely missing here. While our server handled an uncomfortable situation with grace, the overall management and hospitality fell well below the standard I'd expect from an establishment presenting itself as an upscale destination. Needless to say, I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this place to anyone looking for an enjoyable evening or a special occasion. Pretty sure those other 4 and 5 star reviews can't be real or if they are, then they don't know what a proper roof top restaurant/bar is. I first thought oh roof top cantina maybe it will be like one of those fancy places in NYC or downtown LA but without hurting the wallet too much. I mean it's a rooftop in Oxnard. Well I was wrong! For starters when I get to the place I get asked if I have a reservation, I said no and hostess proceeds to ask for my name and number; Thinking she's gonna put me on a waiting list. Then she grabs the menu and takes us to our table. I was confused and felt uncomfortable to say the least because it feels like this place just took my number not sure for what reason and I was never told why or even asked if I was okay with it. Then I expected prices to be higher than usual but for a place that only opens from 4-9pm gotta say what a scam!!! Prepared drinks were $18 and they were probably 6oz at best served in plastic small cups, as if we were in a pool bar or something. Food was okay and really expensive for the tiny portions. Fajitas for two was $60 but it had the portions for 1 person. Place was cool because it was on the roof but the view of the 101 and the traffic sound it's just not appealing. Again this isn't NYC Finally the cherry on top. it was 4 of use we each got 2 drinks, 2 appetizer and a dinner and our bill was over $400. Not only was everything really expensive but 20% gratuity was included which in a fancy place or any place that's half decent it always leaves a sour taste regardless of service because it tells u that the place isn't great or perhaps honest. Which also turns waiter to not try at least to do their jobs well enough, which in this case service was ok. Mostly I was annoyed that I kept being asked if I was done with my food when I was still picking at it and we still had other people eating. But that to me is minor compared to everything else. Sad to say cant picture this place lasting if they don't make some changes. If they keep those prices they are just fooling themselves. This isn't a rooftop in a top tier city. It's Oxnard. Your hotel guest are also not there for tourism and can't imagine they will spend the money there when you got a ton of better competition in the collection. PS. Restaurant "team" responses to other reviewers is always genetic and they don't really seem to address or correct the issues or even bother to acknowledge the problem. Good luck. Came to dinner on the Fourth of July and everything was fantastic. The atmosphere is beautiful with sweeping views of Oxnard into Ventura. Standout dishes were the baby elote (SO good!), tuna tartar, aguachile, and short ribs with mole. We also had some of their signature cocktails such as Heat of Summer, Cloudfall, Sunset Blush, Ube All Day, and the Desert Sour and all were very well made. For dessert we shared two portions of the churro cheesecake and finished every bite. Special thank you to the great service from the bartender Taylor, Chef Matt, and Sean the manager. We felt welcomed and encourage everyone to stop by this new gem of a restaurant. We will be coming here anytime we are in the area. read more

We were so excited to check this place out for our anniversary. We made a reservation. When we got there, we were seated in a small area that was around a corner and completely dark. Went back to the hostess to ask her for a different table and she was clearly annoyed with us. We were seated at a table with a view of the freeway and given the menus and drink menu. We ordered a drink. It took almost 15 minutes...I'm not kidding.... 13+ minutes before our drink came to us!!!! HORRIBLE SERVICE OMG. The menu was a s disappointingly generic menu for the prices. Outrageous for what the menu offered. We decided to finish our drink and then go elsewhere. It was a completely sad experience. Do you really want to pay that much money for a cocktail and food when you're on the rooftop looking at the 101? NO THANK YOU. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Go across the street to the Collection and get much better food and service. read more
