Went here after not going for awhile because my last experience wasn't great. They really turned around and are so much better now! The music is at an appropriate level and honestly it was a great playlist! The food was great! I went on a Tuesday and they had a taco bar for $2 a taco! Lots of toppings you add yourself! Great service and great food

We came in for a quick drink and ended up having the best experience thanks to the GM Dianna! she was so welcoming and encouraged us to try the NEW soft serve margarita!!!! we sat down immediately had our order taken and vibed to the music! we got strawberry and watermelon soft serve marg and they were so so so good! creamy and sweet....dangerous fs LOL

So glad we stopped in to try this spot! Have passed it on the freeway a bunch but had a craving for birria tacos so decided to give it a go. Really cute interior, fun vibes and I can tell this place definitely gets busy on weekend evenings. I had the Jarritos Loko which had tequila, watermelon Jarritos, watermelon purée, lime juice and a chamoy/tajin rim. Soooo good and refreshing! Plus the presentation was really cute! The tacos were great, I did get a few really fatty pieces of birria but took them out and enjoyed the rest. All of the salsas we tried had nice flavor. Hubby had nachos which were good too, loaded up with toppings and a huge portion size. Will definitely be back!

We have noticed Kalaveras in Oxnard by the Auto Mall while driving by on the 101fwy. We had gone to the location when it was a Red Lobster several times and were curious about what replaced it. All I can say is we wish we tried it sooner. As you walk in you can tell it went through a recent full renovation, no trace of the old red lobster. It features a vibrant atmosphere with a gorgeous bar as the center piece, Music was modern Mexican and was at a perfect level that did not impede conversation. We started off with a couple of Margaritas and they were both fantastic. I had the Paloma Negra, traditional silver tequila with fresh made sweet and sour on rocks with a salt rim. I really liked the salt as the grain was not too large, many restaurants use Kosher salt that falls off to quickly. The wife tried the Chamoyada, silver tequila, chamoy, mango purée on the rocks with a tahini rim. She liked it so much she had 2. Miguel brought us some fresh chips and salsa with the drinks and they were great, not just watered down tomatoes. Great roasted flavor and had a good kick. We ordered the Chicken Mole Enchiladas and the Quesa Birria Tacos. The mole was very good and complex, with the heat building with each bite, but not overwhelming. The Tacos, 3 crispy cheese tacos - slow braised beef - lime onions - avocado - cilantro - consommé. Wow we will come back for both of these dishes. We sat at the bar as we usually do if it's just the two of us. Miguel provided impeccable service starting with suggestions on the drinks. He recommended that we try the Sunday Brunch buffet with bottomless mimosas and to come back for $2 taco Tuesday. We will see you then Miguel.

Service: 2/5 Lost 3 point just because I felt like she treated us as if we were teens with no parents to chaperone us. For instance, I pointed at Kala burrito on the menu and ordered. I also asked I can add rice to side, she looks at the one above which was kala wet burrito and read it off, then she reads off the one i want and said it doesn't come with rice. If she didnt hear what I said, she could've easily asked to repeat myself, I am fully AWARE that it doesnt come with rice and that was not the question. I was asking if i can ADD the rice to the side. When we were waiting for the food, she brings us ceviche which we never ordered????? She was horrible with taking orders and bring wrong order. However she was good with being attentive with filling water and checking on us. Food: 3/5 Lost 2 points because flour tortillas were warmed up in microwave instead of just throwing on the stove which should cook in 30secs or less with high heat. Chips were horrible with bad after taste. Seems like they reused old oil from last year. Kala burrito was good and guacamole too, just couldnt finish because the whole situation ruined my appetite Ambiance: 5/5 Nice interior with cool vibes because of the lighting It was our first time but service was pretty wack. Service+food price. It didnt really balance out well so we will find somewhere else to eat

Food was really good, drinks were great , and the aesthetics were on point. Service was a little slow, but we weren't in a rush so it didn't take away from the experience at all. Overall, great vibes and a fun spot. Would definitely come back.

The service was great. The ambiance was good (they could lower the music volume a bit until it is "party" time). The food was good. They have Taco Tuesday bar where you tell the server how.many tacos you want and they give you a ticket to go get them from the taco bar. Happy hour Slushy Margaritas so refreshing. The appetizer queso fundido was really good and the albondiga soup was perfect for the cold windy night

A lot of reviews are mentioning the music. Is this a loud place?

The music is only loud Tuesday, Friday And Saturday nights. The other times the music is on pretty low. The only other time they raise the music is if they have a birthday celebration but that only lasts around 30 seconds.

We expect a certain standard, a level of care that borders on obsession. So when I catch Evan Williams--respectable, questionable, but barely twelve bucks a bottle--making an appearance behind the bar, it feels like a breach of trust. A quiet betrayal under low lighting. The illusion only works if the details hold up under scrutiny... and that pour? It broke the spell. And then comes the real offense: discovering that your Old Fashioned--the crown jewel of any respectable cocktail program--are built on bottom-shelf, dust-collecting bourbon. That's not just a letdown, it's a slap in the face. A cocktail like that deserves reverence, not shortcuts. And as if to twist the knife, there it was--a massive can of red maraschino cherries sitting shamelessly atop the bar, like some relic from a dive that's given up on finesse. It wasn't just a misstep. It was disrespect. In a place claiming the speakeasy mantle, details like these matter. They're the difference between theater and parody. The cocktails did not warrant the $15 price tag. Moreover, I would have paid more had I know the class of bourbon upfront. What ultimately redeems the space is its ambiance. The low flicker of the fireplace, the soft embrace of worn leather sofas, the curated hum of music floating just above conversation--it's seductive, even soulful. The room itself is small, intimate--the kind of place where you're bound to recognize a face, or at the very least, feel inclined to invite a stranger to share the sofa and maybe a story. And then there's the setting--tucked beneath a historic relic, a basement bar built into the bones of old Americana. The building dates back to the early 1900s, echoing with a past that deserves to be honored, not phoned in. That's exactly why I expected more from the cocktails. A place with this much atmosphere shouldn't fall flat when it comes to what's in the glass. It's a mismatch--a beautiful stage, but a script that doesn't quite rise to meet it.
