First thing is be aware of the new menu, it was my fault since online they have an updated one but the yelp reviews show older Menu. New menu is way smaller, the food was delicious though so negative marks there. The drinks were good but on the lighter side of alcohol, you could have 3 with out feeling tipsy. This place definitely is a late night place, got here at 6:45 and place was empty but around 8:00 PM once the live music started the place had a nice vibe. When we got there they had Spanish music playing, the live band was an English cover band. The group was great just not expected, with the name of the restaurant being Vaquero Y Mar. Overall food and atmosphere was great just research who is playing before you go. On the sensory level this is a 8 or 9, loud music and bright strobe lights galore. More of an adult place after 9:00 PM

I came here with my friends on a Sunday afternoon searching for a good Mexican restaurant in the area, so we gave this place a shot based on the yelp reviews and pics. At first, we weren't sure if they were open since business appeared to be slow, but once we walked inside there was a mariachi band playing and people inside enjoying the music. We were seated right away and had a great view of the mariachi's playing on the small stage. They have Sunday Mariachi Brunch from 12-2pm. The music was very loud inside, so if you have sensitive ears, then you may want to sit outside. They also have live bands that perform every Wednesday from 5-7pm and $2 taco specials with $5 well drinks. The prices here are very reasonable for what you get, and the food was delicious. I ordered the Birria de Res with Consomé and it came with homemade corn tortillas, rice and beans. I thought I had placed an order for the birria queso tacos, but failed to realize it was the wrong meal. Nonetheless, I was very satisfied with my meal. The meat was served tender, juicy and not overly salty. In fact, it needed a little more salt, but I'd rather have to add more salt than have it overly salted. My friends ordered the chicken flautas and cheese enchiladas. I tried the chicken flauta and it was delicious! Can't go wrong with a crispy chicken flauta. I didn't get to try the cheese enchilada, but my friend said she enjoyed her meal as well. The service here is very welcoming and you can tell they are a family owned business that cares about their customers. I was very impressed by our waiters! Especially the lovely lady that helped us. I didn't catch her name, but she was very attentive and grateful when we complimented her on the food. Overall, a great place to check out for Mexican food if you're in the area. There's plenty of seating inside for small or larger groups. The interior inside is a little dim and dark, and the seating arrangement was a little awkward, but it is what it is. Parking is located in the back and there is outdoor seating as well.

Nicest owners, and oh my, you have to try the birria pizza! It's delish! Family friendly in a calm environment, during the day. And at night a great place to go dancing. They have it all.

This is a family restaurant Be patient with the staff they are super friendly but under staffed We have been to this location twice and both time the food was amazing, clean and leaving wanting more However you will be charged accordingly for extra chips and salsa So if you are a chip and salsa lover slow your roll.. They haven't changed out the decor since it use to be the Chinese PalBut I'm not opposed to it. There is live music The bartender was amazing she make delicious margaritas Quesabirria Tacos

This restaurant looks so cool. They have a Mexican cowboy theme going on. The owners are always welcoming and friendly every visit. A MUST try is the Birria pizza. Sometimes I go just for that. And their house made salsa and horchata. You'll want to follow them on IG because they have a lot of fun dance nights and events.

Great place, I'm pretty picky about Mexican food but I was impressed with this place. It wasn't very busy, they definitely need to get the word out. I had the birria con consume plate and it was FANTASTIC. The tortilla chips taste home made! I'll definitely be back with friends.

Quesabirria Tacos con Consome. It was hot and cheese was cheesy

So this place is pretty neat and holds its own backbone as an entity, have to respect that! It's a family owned joint that has Mexican live music and stays opened till midnight. Apparently they even have a dj on fridays. The owners were so lovely and giving because the food was packed up. You definitely get your moneys worth. I ordered the barria tacos with rice and beans. But let's not forget it brings the consume as well. I'm stuffed! The beans were not a hit for me, but the rice was decent as well as the tacos. The consume was average. What I will say is that the food really tasted home cooked! I actually enjoyed the food although it wasn't up to par with my preference in flavors. Give it a try and see if you like it. It's worth the try! I'll tell you this much, those tacos were stuffed they certainly weren't skimpy on the meat portions.

There may not be very many Yelp reviews on this place but it was such a good find. They have great outdoor seating, a sweet band the day we visited, and the service was fantastic. Both the waiter & the owner checked on us multiple times. The food was delicious, very flavorful! My husband loved the cheese enchiladas, and my kids devoured their giant burrito. I had the Birria tacos which were delicious, the flavor combination was perfect! The spicy mango margarita was the perfect compliment to the meal. Definitely give this place a try!! You won't regret it!

Great place to have fun, live bands, dancing. Good food, the guacamole is excellent. Sadly, the salsas need a lot of improvement.

My husband and I came on a Saturday and was quoted 35 minutes for a wait. I recommend going to the bar like us if you want to skip it. Sally's sand dab - 5/5. My go-to for a reason. It's lightly breaded with capers and a nice garlic and Parmesan sauce. It's not too heavy and is always so tasty. I got it with the pineapple coleslaw and butternut squash. I would probably sub the butternut squash with fries or another side next time. Charbroiled oysters - 5/5. I didn't get it this time, but these are a must have and my favorite. If the texture of oysters are less pleasant to you, this helps a lot while giving it a lot of flavor. Sea bass - my husband got this from the daily catch with the potato cake and spinach. He said he enjoyed it but would opt for something else in the future considering the smaller portion of the sea bass. Overall, this is a really nice restaurant to bring family and friends too. It's not overly expensive and the portions are good.

It is great for any special occasion and offers inside and outside dining. I suggested this restaurant to my out of town guests to celebrate my dear friend's birthday. Rumfish did not disappoint. The Spring weather is beautiful in Ventura so we sat outside. Service is prompt and casual. It was crowded even on a Thursday evening, but the outdoor area is spacious. The restaurant has a really cute Mediterranean/Italian vibe with gorgeous lemon trees and comfy patio seating. It was chilly outside, but the heaters made it comfortable. Staff was friendly, just very busy because of the holiday. Food took around an hour, but understandable for Mother's Day. The food was excellent. I got the flatbread with apricot jam and bacon, and it was such a good mix of sweet and savory with fresh arugula on top. Definitely recommend it. My boyfriend got the wagyu burger medium with fries and everything was cooked perfectly and served hot. Other people at our table got shrimp and corn, fish tacos, and burgers, and everything looked really good. Great place, will come back

Servers are warm and friendly; They really want to make sure you are happy with their service. We were! Food came quickly! You pick it up at the inside desk. Claim Chowder delicious, served with oyster crackers and a thick slice of fresh hot sour dough bread. We all ordered, we all loved it! Calamari a bit of a downer, it was just "ok" little chewy/rubbery. Won't order again. Taco's amazing! 2 huge taco's enough for two people and loaded with everything you want. 2 bucks more for Avacado add on. We ordered 2 plates one blackened snapper (I split with my daughter) and the other grilled snapper tacos for hubby (he loved their non-alcoholic beer too ordered at the bar). All fresh, moist fish, cooked perfectly and tasty. Will order again. The 2 little ones shared a very generous serving of chicken nuggets with fries meal. Really good, so much so, we snitched off their plate. Enough to take home too. All in all a great experience and will be coming back soon for another Happy Hour meal.

If you're for one of the most underrated spots to grab fresh seafood & a stiff cocktail with ocean…read moreviews in Ventura County then look no further than Eric Ericsson's Fish Co. at the Ventura Pier. Open since 1981, this local staple has been around a long time (and in this economy) impressive! I've always walked right past this spot but somehow ended up next door getting tacos or simply walking down the pier for the views, I truly didn't realize how fabulous this lowkey restaurant is. When you walk inside you order at a counter, so it's semi casual in that way but otherwise, everything about this place feels "wow" because your getting 5-star restaurant views of the ocean while paying $$ (reasonable). I picked a cute little short bar style seat which essentially was "premium seating" overlooking the beach and the ocean and honestly, it doesn't get much better than this. The staff from start to finish were super nice and welcoming. They had a solid kitchen team so the food was all made fresh to order but came out quick, making this a solid spot for a quick lunch break. The gentlemen taking my order was friendly and helpful when I had questions and needed recommendations. If you're looking for alcohol, they have a separate counter/bar where you pay & they take your drink order. The bartender there was lovely as well. Nice people, 5/5 service. The food was honestly fantastic and rivals any other seafood spot in the area. I'd also give the food, Portions and presentation a 5/5 as well. Here's what I ordered: Mai Tai - Boozy, fruity, and basically a vacation in a glass. I'd recommend this cocktail if you want something strong but fruity. Popcorn Shrimp - Crispy, flavorful little bites with that southern-style batter that I love. I subbed out the cocktail sauce to pair it with their tartar sauce & that choice was chef's kiss. (Tatar sauce over cocktail all day everyday). Ahi Tuna Taco (staff recommendation) - Light, fresh, and LOADED. Super fresh seared ahi, crunchy veggies, and an addictive wasabi sauce. Oysters - Freshly shucked and you can't leave without ordering a dozen...or two. Their rotation of what type of oysters they have does change regularly I think I read but when I came in the smaller west coast oysters were great. Meals like this remind me why living here feels like paradise. There's a reason these long time local favorites stand the test of time and it's important that we continue to support them so they'll be around for another 40 years! Cheers to Eric Ericssons, definitely a highlight meal for me this year.

REVIEW: First timer here (what.) and it was so good! Quiet, not too busy on the day we went (during the week). Post-shutdown and currently 2026, it's OK to me if it's ghost town inside. :) We ordered the Clam Chowder Bowl and Sweet Potato Fries. GREAT! The chowder had nice flavor and was thick, and the clam pieces were tasty. The bread was warm and soft, so full of flavor. Service was good. Love the vibe inside, too. There was no wait, and we stood there for about 10 minutes without being helped. Finally, a waitress came over around 8:05 PM and told us they were closed at 8 and couldn't seat us. That doesn't make sense--if you close at 8, you should still be seating guests before that time, especially when they've been waiting and there's no line. The lack of communication and basic customer service was frustrating and unprofessional. It wasn't about the timing it was about how it was handled. Standing there with no acknowledgment and then being turned away last minute is just bad service. Definitely not the experience we expected.
