Gloria's Kitchen has been serving the community since 1997 and this spot is definitely a Ventura staple. Located in Ventura's medical district area, this classic diner meets Mexican restaurant is lowkey and inconspicuous so I'm here to make sure more people check them out. From the moment we walked in for lunch, we were greeted with nothing but warm hospitality and friendly energy. This is the kind of place where everyone knows each other by name and there were a lot of regulars. The interior is retro comfort vibes but very cozy, nostalgic, and welcoming. Now let's talk about the food...because I need to shout this from the rooftops: their grilled shrimp tacos are unreal. 10/10 I am still drooling thinking about them. Handmade tortillas + jumbo juicy shrimp packed with flavor (from that old school plancha grill they must have in the back) + topped with fresh pico + a chipotle sauce that ties everything together perfectly. Absolutely addictive and if you come here and don't know what to get, get this! The menu is classic favorites from traditional Mexican dishes to American breakfast plates, all the comfort staples you'd expect from a longtime neighborhood spot. I'm definitely coming back for taco Tuesday and when I'm off the clock so I can try one of their margaritas. They have a beer and liquor license so that's a plus. This spot is family owned and we've got to keep supporting these longtime spots in Ventura. The prices were average, not cheap but the meal was filling and delicious. We had a party of 13 for lunch on a Sunday, 5 kids, 8 adults. They were very accommodating. The menu not only has Mexican dishes, their specialty, but breakfast items, hamburgers, a variety salads and sandwiches. Service was quick and everyone loved their food. The Burrito supreme is huge! Walk in to a bright. clean and pleasant location with several boards showing specials. seated right away. My wife had a great strawberry margarita that was a hefty portion! We ordered a combo plate as well as the shrimp stuffed chili relleno. To start, the chips and 2 salsa's served were fresh and homemade. Great stuff without being too hot. We've come here on and off for many years. Their food is always good, and we haven't found a bad thing on their menu. It's like having a home-cooked meal placed in front of you. Their wet burritos, carne asada quesadillas, and carne asada plates are our go-tos, and they have delicious horchata as well. Parking can potentially be difficult as the lot behind their restaurant can get busy, but we're usually able to find a spot or two. Solid food. Tried their Menudo, which I've never had so hard for me to comment on the quality. it's definitely a little bit different but tasty. Their side of fries were good, fries were soft though though I did do takeout and drove maybe 10 minutes home. It was darker red and tasted different, but I do know that everyone has different styles of making it. My husband had the carne asada plate which he loved. I was surprised they add a cheese enchilada with that plate. I tried a piece of it and it was delicious. My children had asada tacos. My husband placed an order over the phone. We finally went to Gloria's Kitchen after several people had recommended it to us in our search for excellent Mexican food. We were not disappointed. From the service, chips and salsa (which is always a huge indication of how the East will be) to the margaritas and food it was a delicious experience. I had the Birria tacos and they were AMAZING. The other people at my table had the carnitas tacos, quesadilla, carne nachos and the chile Colorado. Our overall consensus was "we have found our new spot for Mexican".
