Me and the compa stopped by El Chilito #2 and have to say their micheladas are really good -- flavorful, refreshing, and mixed just right. Definitely the highlight of the visit. The food, though, was just okay. It wasn't terrible, but it didn't really impress either -- kind of average and missing that fresh, flavorful touch. The service was just "okay" too, nothing special. Not rude, but not very attentive either. Overall, it's a solid spot if you're mainly going for a good michelada and to chill for a bit, but I wouldn't come just for the food. read more

It was the carne asada plate with handmade tortillas plus a few sides. Servers were friendly but most only spoke Spanish. I'm bilingual so no prob just letting those that only speak English know. Not busy but was told they're usually busier around 7pm. Place is brightly colored! Located in downtown Oxnard ... great place to get drinks with friends. I'd be back for the miches!! So glad my friend, Melissa L. recommended and introduced me to this place. As an Oxnard native, I can't believe I hadn't visited! Def some of the best miches I've had. I had dinner by myself here tonight and it was amazing. I knew I was walking into a Mexican restaurant but I didn't know whether it'd be good or not, I just needed to kill time. What caught my attention the most was the michelada menu, as it had a lot of options and if was hard to just pick one but I ended up getting the fruit michelada and it was perfect. I do wish the menu had options for parties of 1 because their portions are huge! I ended up going with a cross between a quesadilla and a shrimp taco with handmade tortillas and they were delicious. I was pleasantly surprised with this place and will definitely be returning. The waiter was also attentive and didn't forget to bring me anything so I was very happy about that. I also appreciated that he didn't ask me how was everything every 5 minutes like other waiters. Definitely recommend you all try it! read more

On our way to Santa Barbara, we decided to exit and look for a restaurant to eat lunch - so off the beaten path for us we checked out this place. They have the most extensive list of michelada I've ever seen - it was a crazy selection. We got the Chililada which is the tamest from their list and the Shrimp in Chili Lime sauce which was good but too much acidity. The shrimp were perfectly cooked though. Their rice and beans though are to die for - probably the best beans I've ever had! Soooo good!!! I'm not sure if I'll come back to this if I'm ever in the area again but if i do I'm just getting the rice and beans. read more

when in oxnard you guys have to stop by El Chilito for some delicious mexican food. We drive up from San Fernando Valley and it is always worth it. The tacos gobernador are so good recommended dish . & their Molcajete is one that you can never go wrong with. If in town stop by. You will not regret it. I guess Covid19 has managed to raise the prices and this restaurant was no exception! $26.99 for a double michelada? If I'm not mistaken, it had two slices of cucumber and about five shrimp. The rest was cocktail mix and the beer. I guess we found out the hard way. The menu didn't have the prices and unfortunately we didn't ask ahead of time. Sticker shock galore!!! The service was good and I still tipped well because it's not the servers fault that the owner is greedy! They stayed open this past year doing to go orders so I highly doubt they lost much. One star is too much of a good rating for this place!!! When we had arrived to the restaurant we noticed that it was almost empty so we didn't expect to be waiting too long. An employee proceeded to ask how many of us were there, we responded with the number 10 and they said okay it'll be a 2 to 5 minute wait to get the tables ready. We agreed and waited outside. About 10 minutes pass by and another employee comes to ask us what we were waiting for and we let her know that we were waiting for our table to be set up for our party of 10. Then we glanced behind her and see that they had barely started fixing everything. After that first mishap, we went ahead and got seated. Our waitress came and brought us tostadas and salsa which was complementary. Then proceeded to take our drink orders. An unfortunate tidbit was that we asked for water cups for the kids and the water was a light purple color, tasted off and they said that that was because they get the water from the same machine as the jamaica agua which was weird because the guests behind us had a glass of water with lemon and there water had no tint. After a few minutes we went ahead and ordered our food, we ordered 2 aguachile tostadas, kids chicken nuggets with fries, tacos de birria de chivo, chicken tacos, a wet burrito, a tostada de ceviche de pescado, and a bowl of pozole. The food took a little while to come out but we just figured that it was because they were making everything fresh to order... something along those lines. Well when we got our food and started to eat it well it just wasn't very good. Flavorless, mushy, stringy seafood. As for the fish ceviche (which I added photos) it tasted like bologna lunch meat. Disgusting. The aguachiles tasted nothing like what aguachiles are supposed to taste. As for the tacos de birria they had an odd after taste. The wet burrito was edible, as was the pozole and chicken tacos. When the person who had ordered the tostada de ceviche de pescado was asked by the waitress if he was doing alright, he let her know that the ceviche was not good. She was very friendly about it and asked if he'd like to replace it with something else but he said no thank you. We will definitely not be back to this restaurant! And if you do please avoid the seafood- something is off in that department! I think this spot is just overly hyped up as far as the micheladas go. In the past we have gone there just for that and it was an okay experience. People must get pretty tipsy to think that the food there is good. WTH I could not eat the food or drink their margarita. There are some Mexican restaurants make the best Mexican food, great enchiladas, burritos, etc. Not here. The chicken in my enchiladas tasted like they came from a cheap packet of Mexican taco seasoning from Von's. The tortillas were, well...not too good. I kind of wonder what Gordon Ramsay would have to say about this food. One bite and a push of the plate. Ugh. I hope they hire a very good cook to get them back on track. Came to el Chilito looking to satisfy my mariscos and michelada craving after a long day at work. I gotta say , craving satisfied. My co-workers workers were excited as they had been to the Bakersfield and Ontario locations before. We started off with the marischelada , a michelada topped with shrimp , pulpo and cucumber so delicious . It had the right ratio of beer to Clamato and spices that made it a thirst quencher. Our waitress brought us our mini tostadas to snack on while we decided on our entree. The salsa served with the tostadas was meh, nothing special but I asked for a spicer salsa and what was given to us was delicious. It was full of flavor and had a heat that snuck up on you not to hot ( to me ) but I would image would possibly be for others beware. What followed for the entree was camarones en salsa verde topped with jack cheese and onions with poblano peppers. The salsa was full of good flavor served with a small salad and white rice. The presentation wasn't all that great but the food overall pretty good. The homemade corn tortillas served with our food were good but I've had better. Overall the experience was great , the service was excellent and I'll be definitely trying the one in Bakersfield. read more
