We haven't been here in a while, but the last time we visited, we ate here and really enjoyed the food. The clam chowder and fried fish were both delicious. Nothing overly fancy, just good, fresh food done right. We usually come here to purchase fresh crabs, and so far we've always been happy with them. The crabs have been delicious, and the male crabs were especially large. The only downside has been the customer service on some visits. We've occasionally had to wait quite a while to get fresh or live crabs, and during our last experience, the staff seemed a bit irritated for some reason. Despite that, the quality of the crabs has kept us coming back. Overall, good seafood, great crabs, and we'll likely continue stopping by when we're in the area. read more

We came to the Fisherman's Catch to celebrate Mother's Day since my wife was craving some seafood. We arrived around 11am right when thay just incase it was busy and we didn't make reservations. Once arrived we were greeted right away by the owner and staff and was seated right away. Luckily the restaurant wasn't that busy yet. Right of the bat service from Samantha P was fantastic and very friendly. As for the food we ordered 3 different appetizer and 2 main seafood dishes to share. Appetizers: Aquachiles- They were freshly made that morning and the was fantastic. Clam Strips- They were fresh and nicely battered. Portions were on the small side. Delaware Bay Oysters- Fantastic and so fresh. Very clean tasting. For the main dishes we ordered: 5oz Blackened Red Snapper- The snapper was grilled perfect. It was flaky and moist. 4pc Alaskan Cod Fish & Chips- I ordered it half Beer Battered and half Panko Fried. The panko came out dry but had a better crispness to it. The beer battered is the way to go. The fish was moist and flaky and the batter was nice and light as well. Plus the chips ( Fries) where amazing. I believe they were double fried. This is a bit of an inconspicuous spot in a shopping area in Oxnard that was such a pleasant surprise. We arrived at around 6 on a Friday and were greeted with live music and a table on the patio immediately. All the food came out in less than 10 minutes and blew us away! We shared the popcorn shrimp which was paired with my new favorite cocktail sauce, a blackened tilapia plate, and shrimp scampi. The tilapia was flaky and buttery. The scampi was unlike any I had ever had, but was divine! It was served with a creamy, lightly spicy, white wine sauce. Aside from the food, the service was okay. great location and walking from our condo but...... Went for a neighborhood get together and watch Monday night football (no other neighbors showed up-at least for the first half). Fisherman's catch has had a remodel this year, a full liquor license and new much more extensive menu. There are two areas--the "bar area" with some high-top tables, TV's, the bar and the "dinner area" with low tables and TV's. These two areas are not physically separate--just the change of chair height. My wife prefers low chairs so we sat in the dinner area with a good view of a TV--after asking, they put the football game on. But.. football TV volume in the bar and equally loud music volume in the dinner room made it rediculous--I was overpowered by a different volume in each ear! After asking, they put football volume on all TV's... Until a dinner patron (who came in much later than us) asked for the dinner TV volume to be turned off--and they did. I think Fisherman's catch needs to decide if they want to be a sports bar on Monday night's or not--because the two areas are physically one--they can't be "fine dining" and sports bar. The food: clam chowder was below standard-mostly potato with few clams, minimal cream flavor and lacking any spice/flavor--and very expensive especially for "potato soup". The clam strips were horrible--don't let the online pic deceive you--there are 6 decent sized pieces and the rest 90% small fried bread chunks. The chicken Quesadilla was very good-lots of cheese and chicken, cooked properly and a nice salsa to dip. The fries that came with were excellent--best part of the meal. It's so close, that we are bound to give them another try but not for sporting events and no clam strips or chowder in the future. read more

Visited on Labor Day, and was pleasantly surprised by the all day happy hour! We ordered a dozen oysters, the 2 piece battered cod and fries, shrimp ceviche, mahi mahi tacos, and a margarita. Everything was delicious and we were given a nice spot on the patio that overlooked the marina/park area. Our server was amazing, he gave us some great recommendations. My family and I used to go here all the time for the live catch seafood. We drove all the way to Oxnard from the valley to learn that ownership had changed and so has the restaurant/market format. Now it's more like seafood dive bar situation. No more abundance of crabs to buy and take home. Ended up eating there to try the food anyway. Service was attentive and unhurried despite having a huge party of football fans the day we came. Did have to flag them down for water refills every once in a while since they sat us in the back corner. My fish and chips unfortunately did not have a shattery shell like I was hoping it would. It was a little soggy on the underside. Clam chowder had reduced a little too much and had gone a little gloopy but still tasted yummy. Lots of clams inside. Portions are pretty generous for the price compared to other seafood spots. All other items were good but unfortunately no longer the drive we used to make for this spot. My wife's salmon dish was well cooked and tasty however the vegetables side was very mushy and overcooked. Red Snapper Burger was a light and delicious "burger". Ingredients tasted fresh and flavorful. Recommend cutting it in half as the size is pretty big and can get messy, but not too messy. Which is great that it comes with fries. The waffle fries were also good as they were light, crunchy and a great scooper from any fallen ingredients of the burger. It's been almost 2 years since I've been here and there's been a management change. No longer are there tanks along the wall right as you walk in. They now have sit down service with a full wait staff and a new bar. You can still order at the counter, but if you are dining in, you get the full experience. They also have a Happy Hour menu from 3-6pm everyday. Keep in mind that their sit down service doesn't start until after lunch if I remember correctly. Not sure if this is a good or bad thing TBH. On the one hand, if you are there for just seafood like how H.C. or Redondo Pier is, then all you need is a table. But with the full service, not sure if you are allowed to take up tables just for that. I did notice that there were tables outside. We were short on time and ordered quick items so we could grab a bite to eat and then head back to work. The waitress was very nice and quickly got our orders. I got a bread bowl and clam chowder. The bread had a really cool design on top and had the right amount of sponge and chewiness for the sourdough. The soup was less desired and tasted like it didn't have much seasoning in it. There were good amounts of clam and potato, but the cream was the most powerful part of the soup. Seems like a very popular place and it's located really conveniently next to the water. Excellent fish n chips, some of the best I've had. I get the beer battered and stop by for lunch semi-regularly. The one piece cod with fries and white chowder is a deal. On a total whim we came here for lunch since we were walking around the Channel Islands Harbor which is behind the Seabridge Marketplace. Service from the moment we walked in was phenomenal, warmly greeted. We took some time to look at the menu and our cashier/server was great at answering our questions. I ordered the coconut shrimp and my parents had the lunch specials. The place was clean...even though it is a seafood place, the place didn't smell "fishy". We sat in a booth and the food was brought to us fairly quickly. The coconut shrimp was by far the best coconut shrimp I have ever had and the orange sauce that accompanied it was phenomenal!!!! We all enjoyed our meal, the portions of the lunch special were perfect and the prices were reasonable. There was another worker there that thanked us for choosing the Fisherman's Catch and asked if we needed anything else. He was also so friendly. He was cleaning and getting utensils ready. I suspected he was the owner and on our way out I asked him if he was, he answered yes. I don't think he was friendly just because he was the owner, his way of being seemed to come naturally. I let him know that we really liked our food and that the coconut shrimp were the best! He told me that he isn't really a fan of coconut shrimp but that he enjoys these because of the orange sauce. Perfect, low key restaurant that I highly recommend! Plus, bathrooms were clean. Parking is a plentiful since this restaurant is located in a shopping center. AND before or after your meal, you can enjoy a super nice walk along the Harbor. Great little relaxing place. read more

Also, the two bowls of clam chowder were very salty. I liked the beer battered cod, calamari, and fried shrimp. Ceviche needs some salt. Chocolate Cake & Ice Cream is about $19 - it's not even good. Hoping it was just an off day, but the flavors were very bland and the portion didn't really justify the price. I might give it another try some other day, but maybe stay away from the shrimp po'boy. The space is in a plaza next to The Coffee Bean. I love the seating area in the back of the shop where you can take your food outside and enjoy the view of the ocean! Place looks like it needs a bit of TLC or they may be painting . I loved loved loved the calm chowder there 5/5 . It's my new fave as others are a bit watery and I don't like the flavor. I used to love Lure's in Ventura but the recipe changed. The service wasn't the best so an overall 3.5, rounded to a 4 for me. Service is extremely important to me . Took the tornado for an early dinner tonight and man oh man it was spectacular. Sat in one of the back booths and was immediately helped by Roman. He suggested we try the beer batter and the beer batter oanko. Both were great. Cod and shrimp so good I nearly chewed my fingers off. Simply delicious. Roman was so good I thought he was the owner. Very poor service by waitress and Floor Manager who was bartending. I've been coming here many years to eat the Catfish. Today, I had to call a runner or some position like that to take my order even though the waitress said "hi" to me when I walked in and saw me walk to the bar to sit. It is 5:45 and only a few people at the bar and a few people sitting at the other end of the restaurant. In other words it was empty. After the first assistant provided me menus after I asked for them, the waitress still would not come take my order. I had to wave her down. Then I returned my catfish because it tasted bad. I told the waitress and she took my plate. She went back to the kitchen and asked the kitchen in Spanish "does it taste bad?" and the kitchen man answered "no." She returned 5 minutes later with a smaller plate and looked like the 2 recooked filets on this small plate. I told the waitress that I did not want to eat the catfish. She said that she had informed the kitchen manager but would now notify the floor manager who was bartending;again, noone at the bar and I was the only one in the bar at a high top. Never once did he look up at me to acknowledge my situation. He talked to the waitress and went back to standing there at the bar. She noticed that he didn't take action and walked back up to him and talked. She returned and charged me for my wine but not my meal. How terrible. Chowder was good but not outstanding. With two sodas and tip (yes, we tipped for counter service) for $88.00 is definitely on the higher side. Great view from the back patio.
