I would've totally gave five stars but as we were eating our mango halibut ceviche, (probably the best I've ever had) UNTIL about half way through I found a fairly long light brown hair in it as I'm scooping with my chip! The lady that helps me select what cut to use, is very nice and always makes me feel welcome. I love that I receive an email on Friday that tells me what fish Chris has caught and will be available CUT FRESH that morning. There are many options and the fish is DELICIOUS!!! Ok. I gotta share just to be fair, my favorite secret of Fish Faniacs! My hankering for the Sea Bass collar and the belly! Pretty much hard to ever beat this meal experience, not to mention Chris the fisherman and his wife Dana. And now thanks to Chris's suggestion, I ventured into the carcass. Chris saved the carcass from a White Sea Bass. What a meal! Quick smoked over apple chips, meat flaked off the big bones and you'll never have a better fish taco! The belly and the collar are amazing but now have a rival! I am hooked on the carcass too! Then all the left overs and bones into a pot with carrots, celery, onions- on their way to a grand PHO soup. This is Food Net Work style food! Home run Chris! And not to mention he and his staff are so kind to my little grandsons showing them the huge California crabs and big fish. We have been buying fish from Chris and Dania for years and it is always EXCELLENT. Two weeks ago we bought a large piece of black sea bass for 2 meals. I cooked it the way I always do and it was tough. I thought maybe I had done something wrong and tried another tried and true grilling method and it was tough also. Very odd, so I emailed Dania and she responded right away and said they would refund my money or give me credit. Credit was fine with me and I got a beautiful piece of fish that Chris picked out and he gave me some thresher shark. He said possibly the fish had been injured and we got that part. Great customer service and great fish. read more

Went here from LAX to get some fish. They had salmon, swordfish, yellowtail, ahi and crabs etc. Got the yellowtail for $16/lb and swordfish $15/lb. The prices are lower than retail and higher than wholesale. Good place to shop if you live close by. The freshness is great. read more

The only time I have ever been able to secure fish this fresh out of the water is when I've caught it myself - literally. This place is fisherman-owned and operated by a salty local sea captain that is actually, to put it bluntly, very obsessive about his fish and the treatment thereof. Though the selection ebbs and flows with the fishing conditions (darn weather!), you can be assured that what is on display is the absolute freshest fish available locally (in fact, if anyone knows of another, I'd love to hear about it). The availability changes with the seasons, but last week they had (crazy delicious) white sea bass, local halibut, tiger prawns, California salmon (season opened last week! never had salmon caught locally, it was amazing), angel shark, yellowtail, snapper, sushi grade Ahi tuna, California king crab (wow! all I can say is these things are insanely good - I'm not a huge crab/shellfish fan, but i could eat one of these things every day!! completely different ) Probably most impressive is the simplicity of their operation and mission. I've seen these folks supply chain in action: Chris, owner/operator/fisherman/filet-master extraordinaire has his boat about 30 yards from the market table; Whatever he catches is dollied down the dock, straight up onto the butchering station, where he prepares the fliets that are in turn moved over to be displayed a few feet away in an iced vessel for us lucky customers to take home, add fire (unless you get their sushi grade ahi, which any self respecting fish lover would likely devour with a bit of soy sauce before it hits the pan!! :) ) and enjoy! I'm no expert on how good ol' Vons / Ralphs get their seafood into those nifty cling-wrapped containers, but I'm going to take a gamble and say there's probably a whole lot of links in their supply line to (try to) accomplish what these guys do on Sunday down at the docks. If the freshness and service weren't enough, you'll actually be surprised to know that the prices on everything they have is incredibly competitive (in fact, I purchased some EXTREMELY fresh halibut for the docks for less than what even Costco was offering it for! go figure - with the money I saved I thought a nice bottle of chardonnay would work a treat :) ) All in all, a gem of a find here in Ventura County. With such an array of great seafood in our local waters, it's mind blowing how difficult it can be to source it unless you know the right places to look. Happy to finally say we found it at the CI farmer's market on Sundays. Depending on the week, they sell out of the best stuff early so if you want the goods, come before 11 a.m. PST or so. Once the market gets crowded, it's a bit hard to locate so keep an eye out for the dock entrance (which is usually marked w/asian-style fish kites flying from old-school bamboo fishing poles. Come at the right time and you can even see your own fish being cut while you wait! Last time I was down there, they even gave me a recipe for preparing the Sea Bass and the CA King Crab (something I hadn't attempted before) and it came out PERFECT! Now that our family is trying to eat more seafood each week, it's nice to know there's a local fishmonger that can not only provide the best stuff off our coast but can even tell us what the heck to do with it once we get it home!! read more

This group knocks our socks off every weekend! We look forward to Sundays so we can buy fresh fish from our friends on the dock at the Channel Island Harbor farmers market! We purchase fresh ahi tuna and make homemade spicy tuna. We almost always buy a piece of halibut to grill and it's incredible every time. We've bought their salmon - excellent! We've had their spot prawns a couple of times - delicious! We've had their swordfish - amazing! All of their fish is outrageously fresh and tasty. This is a family owned company and everyone helps out! They are the sweetest, most helpful people and they proudly back every piece of fish they sell.
