If you're longing to eat fresh sashimi or any type of seafood, come to Wild Local in Ventura Harbor next to Andria's Seafood Restaurant. Wild Local source their fishes from local fisherman in the area and allow you to watch them cut into pieces. They have all kinds: large shrimps, lobster, crabs, tuna, halibut, cods and many more. Tonight, I bought a pound and a half of Bluefin Tuna and cut into shashimi sized pieces, it's gloriously tasty and not fishy. The guy even gave me a lemon for my shashimi, what a neighborhood market. So, if you wanted to done on fresh seafood, come to the real fresh fish source and enjoy true seafood NOT frozen from thousands of miles away. read more

Very little selection and what they did have was frozen. Customer service was weak. Guy didn't really seem to want to talk. I was able to purchase some fish filets and what I got was really good. Maybe I just went on a bad day. I'd try it again if I'm ever in town. read more

I need to take some photos next time I cook and prepare this incredible seafood. We bought fresh Uni (pictured) and made sushi. It was unbelievable. Then we pan fried some Grenadier, which we weren't familiar with but everyone there was super knowledgeable and friendly and they told us it was a mild bottom fish. Ridiculously good. We also bought a piece of ling cod, we cooked up that up the following day, a little butter, lemon salt and pepper. So good. Can't wait to go back and see what is in the cold case! read more

I came across this gem at Hollywood Farmers' Market. Got the black cod and skate wing. I basted the cod in olive oil and smashed garlic and broiled it in the oven. Let me tell you this is the best fish I have ever had in my life. Taste and texture is like butter and I'm not exaggerating. Finding this place changed the game for fresh seafood for me! I was just visiting the area for the weekend and was suggested to look at the Ventura Harbor Village for the seafood market and happened by this store! Walking in from the parking lot I couldn't tell much but when I walked inside and got a chance to meet the people inside and how it was being operated, I found that this place is totally a local hotspot for freshly caught seafood! It was around noon when I went the first time and they were still setting up the catch they got but was suggested to come back later when all the boats have finished unloading their catch. We tried the uní for our first visit. The uni was absolutely awesome especially after being able to talk to the person who JUST CAUGHT it a couple hours before! Now that's fresh! Our second visit was around 530pm when they were fully stocked and we got the crab claws and halibut. After our purchase, we also got advice on how to prepare our food which is great when trying something new. All in all, this place is a great place to get fresh, local seafood! They had the freshest Uni that I've ever eaten. The guy at the counter steered me to some black cod as well which I steamed, and it was absolutely the best whitefish I've ever had in my life. They have got the fresh goods! What a treasure to have this store right in our backyard. read more

This fish is so fresh and is absolutely the best we've found in the area. We got the salmon today and it was incredible. Friendly and helpful staff, they have even taken an order over the phone and brought the credit card machine and my fish to my car when I had my baby with me and didn't want to have to get him out and back in. I'm just a seafood lover and every time my husband and I are at our beach house,We'll try to find a good spot to grab some fresh seafood for our dinner.Today we discover this place. First of all,I did called them to see if they have any Dungeness crabs but they don't answer the phone,Which is ok they might be busy but Guess what?! About half an hour later I got a phone called from "Ben" he's return my called and answer all the questions I had.I didn't even leave the voice mail or anything! OMG! That's just blew my mind.Hands down the best customers service ever! So today they don't have Dungeness because it was almost the end of season but they do have a local crab claws,Which we got 2 bags of it and a bag of spot prawn,Which they caught this morning.The staffs was really nice and friendly. Get the smoked fish salad and skip the ceviche. It was forgettable. That the smoked dish salad is the absolutely delicious. Another must is the locally caught sustainable seafood. I bought the black cod to make Nobu's miso marinated black cod. The uni I tried that was delivered "this morning" from Santa Barbara was not sweet. Looks like I still need to make the drive to Smorgasburg DTLA or the Santa Barbara Fish Market for sweeter or more fresh uni freshly caught from Channel Islands. read more

We were in town and had impromptu dinner plans. Grilling fish is quick and easy. Where to go?? Wild Local Seafood came up in Google search. They had good Yelp reviews. We decided to give them a try. Great service! Fish was so fresh and delicious. Salmon was fresh, wild caught, previously frozen but was amazing!! The halibut was very fresh. I highly recommend Wild Local Seafood. read more

These guys are beyond amazing. The fish is heaven. We usually grab something from them at least once a month and it's so good. All of it. Living in Orange County, we found them at the Long Beach Market and they've going above and beyond during the pandemic. We really appreciate what they do. This review relates only to the fish we've bought at the Long Beach Sunday farmers' market. It's pretty much hit or miss, with lots of misses. We've had nasty shrimp of uneven size and quality. The snapper we recently bought was skanky. Rock fish and snapper are sold skin-on which I've never seen anywhere else. We've had good salmon, halibut, and black cod, but we won't venture beyond those any more. read more

I showed up to grab a couple of lbs today but they were sold out of everything but the salmon. I can't wait to come back and get some fresh local catch. Word to the wise, they put out the fresh fish Tuesday's, Thursday's, and Saturday's. their fresh frozen is still local and was frozen shortly after being caught. Again, fresh from the counter or fresh frozen, it is local and caught within days of consumption. read more

We love fish. We love local. We love great service. Wild local seafood has it all. When we get to the farmers market, we buy there, but they also have an amazing deliver service which we just used for the third time. Ordered earlier today around 11am, got the confirmation of the order and it will be delivered tomorrow early afternoon! What an amazing turn-around. Got the crab claws again, simply fantastic and the salmon beats just about any other I have had. Not that the rest of the offerings should be shunned. If you want fresh, local fish, give them a chance, you will be thrilled you did! read more

Read about this place before it opened in the Ventura local paper. I got pretty excited and turned up the first or second day they were open. It was still only half open but totally lived up to the hype. The owner was there and I got a free 15 minute education on local caught fish. Super nice guy, and incredibly knowledgeable. But it was the Salmon that stole the show!!! Sure it's twice the price of Ralph's or Vons, but soooo worth it! The poke I made with it was priceless... Been back now about once a week, tried halibut, tuna, yellowtail, and the ceviche. All awesome! Freshest fish in Socal, and 100% sustainably caught! Five Stars plus. read more

I ran into Wild Local Seafood while on a job installing some equipment at their shop in Ventura. Ben, the owner gave me a great explanation of the fish and their mission statement (in which I highly support) of sustainable seafood. The quality is fantastic. They have loads of fresh seafood and their staff is friendly and down to earth. I'm very excited that you can now find them at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market as well!! read more

Great place to pick up fresh... I mean caught earlier today or yesterday.. fish. Prices are good .. they are equal to other competing fresh fish spots. Very knowledgeable staff. They can recommend what type of fish to get wether baking.. BBQ., ect. They also will explain the more rare types of fish other than the usual salmon ect.. in a way that is understandable. Highly recommended checking them out.. Andreas restaurant is right across the way.. and their prices were the same or a little higher but their fish in their market is not as fresh as here. They vacuum seal pieces of fish at some crazy number like 30 below zero so it's gonna stay fresh! read more

I came in today because I saw they had ridgeback prawns (turns out they don't actually have them till October) But I ended up buying a few "salmon shoulders". I had never had them or even heard of that cut of salmon, but the employee helping us was very informative and explained how to cook and eat them. When I got them home they were a bit intimidating looking, but we cooked them up as directed and let me tell you it was AMAZING!! Best salmon me & my mom have ever eaten. Which is saying something as we both have lived in the pacific north west and eaten our fare share of salmon. I feel like I need to go back soon so my husband can try it. Will definitely shop here again when I'm in Ventura. read more

This place is the perfect blend of service and quality. Cooked fresh halibut for dinner tonight and it was delicious. Ben was extremely helpful at the counter and got us a really great cut of fish. My kids loved watching through the back window as the guys prepared our fish. We will definitely be back! read more

We are striving to deliver wild local fish from the California waters to fine eateries, caterers, and the general public. Utilizing sustainable fisheries with a network of fisherman spanning from the Oregon border to Mexico.

History

Established in 2004.

We at the Wild Local Seafood Co. have came to be in response to the unsustainable and ecologically impacting fishing practices Internationally. The owner, Captain Ben Hyman, spent nearly two decades working on commercial fishing vessels for species ranging from tuna, crab, live rock fish, local black cod, live local halibut, ling-cod, local white sea bass, local thresher shark, squid, and more. What he saw was a lack of respect to the fisherman and fish, ending in the fisherman being paid to little and a middle man making/asking too much and driving the quality down. We strive to provide fish to the public, caterers, fine purveyors of seafood, and gourmet dining establishments in a sustainable fashion optimizing "local-ism" with food. (Minimal miles for food/produce/seafood from boat or truck to table). We are able to source any fish from domestic waters BUT DO NOT sell fish caught internationally under non-sustainable practices!

We ordered today, 5 crabs, 2 orders fish & chips, grilled shrimp, large Clam chowder with total of $140. The swafood fresh, crab meats so tender and sweet. Unfortunately, I m writing this bc I found out today, this place will permanently close July 6th, 2026. This is the only place left open in this worn out area. The people working there said, the old buildings will be demolished and they will build something else. Too bad they will not return. So if you have a chance, go visit before it happens. This place is delicious and worth the 1.5 hrs from where we live.

Anyways, it is a great local market that has a little bit of everything as far as Asian flavors and ingredients. I like it better than SeaFood City becuase it really seems that SC only focuses on Filipino cousine while Asahi offers varieties. The owners, which I haven't seen in a while were always polite and helpful and with their recent rearranging of things, they made the store easier to find things. Their prices are very competiive especially when it comes to basic things like soy sauce which I'm sure is very much appreciated by the community that patronizes them. I really hope this place stays around for a long time since I feel it really fills a need in our community.
