Pretty much the only place that haven't tried in Oxnard city...until yesterday. Let's start with the chips and salsa...always a good indicator of things to come. Wasn't the best, but far from bad. The chips were in one of those steel machines to keep warm, they were thin, crispy, and light salt, the way ALL tortilla chips should be. But they were a bit oily only negative. The salsa was cantina style seemed homemade, was good, zero spice/mild. (B+) Combo fajitas (friend order) it was a good tasting with a terrific plate of guac, pico, refried beans, and shredded cheese. Heck, you couldve made a meal from just the side plate wrap em up call it a veggie fajita party. Very filing and good (A-) Other friends had carne asada burrito, and a steak plate, both happy so assuming they are good. Service was outstanding by several individuals; checking in on order, refilling drinks, cleaning table, all workers are terrific and polite. I was ready for the 5-star goldenrod Neptune-trident throwdown, but my order, the torta (D-) was a complete trainwreck. Al pastor and a torta; took a double-jeopardy style gamble and crapped out, snake eyes big time. The bread was abysmal/ not fresh, the al pastor was ice cold and not memorable, meat fused to a cold hardened melted gooey cheese; send it back, replaced with carne asada, still came back cold (just don't get it.) so that item alone dragged it down a star. I was so full from the chips and salsa, sampling friends' food, and the side order of clam chowder (yes, in a Mex restaurant a first for me, was smoky and quite good too! (A-) that I just picked off some of the cold beef and ate that without the bread. Would I come back? Well, when seaside, I usually crave seafood like a nice fish n chips or something, but if I am ever craving Mex, will bring wife and son. Just will not touch the torta with a diez-foot pole amigo. They also have a salsa bar upon entrance which I completely forgot to pound once food came, shame on me once. read more

This is a very customers' friendly place. We had retirees meet-up at this place once in while, and always being greeted warmly. Food price was very comparable for the area because of its beautiful sea side scenery. Outdoor parking only and will accommodate many cars. Our server was very attentive and food was delicious! Yolanda's is such a cute and cozy spot right by the harbor, it's been one of our go-to places growing up, and it never fails to deliver that comforting, familiar experience. I've always loved their complimentary chips and salsa bar, especially with the marinated jalapeños and onions, such a nice touch that sets them apart from other establishments. I ordered the Baja Seafood Burrito, which came loaded with fresh white fish and shrimp. The seafood tasted fresh, though it could've used a tad more char and seasoning for that extra punch of flavor. The portion sizes are huge, easily enough for two meals. We also tried the Beef Villas for the first time, and it was a pleasant surprise. The beef was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned, definitely something we'd order again. The harbor view makes dining here even better. I always recommend sitting outside if the weather allows. Even when it's chilly, there are space heaters up above that easily toast you right up. This Yolanda's location is my favorite of them all hands down. You can't beat the beautiful views of the harbor and the patio has the best views out of all of their locations. Yolanda's is my go to for margaritas and albondigas. I know this spot gets some criticism for not being truly authentic or selling out to a white demographic but I'm glad the local continues to support and that despite some of the feedback on the kind of Mexican food they are whipping up, it's a popular place that's stood the test of time. It's hard for mom and pop businesses to make it nowadays but the fact that they have multiple locations and have been around as long as I've lived in the 805 shows that they are doing something right. The ambiance and decor at Yolanda's, specific to this location is a 5/5. I love the patio as I've already raved on about but the inside here is cute too! I like the paintings and wall art. Clean bathrooms and a spacious dining area. Staff here are always very friendly. Service can be hit or miss, more often than not the service is really good but once in a blue moon we'll get a slow server. Probably the biggest factor to service is how busy they get which is why I like to come at opening or weekdays. Happy hour here is a solid menu and overall their cocktail menu is diverse and has really tasty looking drinks. For cocktails you've got to always go with their margaritas on the rocks. I love their Margarita flavors - especially the watermelon, guava, prickly pear, Midori, and cucumber. Also got to love a menu that has Tecate as a beer option. Woohoooo. For food I'll always order an albondigas and it's the best I've had anywhere in the 805 or the 626. I dream of this soup and am lucky to have multiple locations to get it. read more

Always been a fan of the food at the Ventura location but wow this is such a great location! The setting overlooking the water is lovely and the staff were so friendly and attentive during what was a massive birthday gathering for a friend. I wish I could remember the name of our lovely waitress. It isn't a cheap place - $45 for a steak quesadilla and a cocktail is a bit pricey (with tax and 20% tip), but the food was very high quality and loaded with steak and I really enjoyed my strawberry mojito. Here for a few days and was looking for a family style Mexican restaurant on the water and this seemed to be the only option so thought we'd give it a try. While our experience was good I wasn't super impressed with any of the food or the service. We sat outside and the patio is stunning with a view overlooking the marina which we loved. We started off with drinks but weren't served any water which we had to ask for. I tried the horchata cocktail which was very strong and mainly tasted of rum. I actually which is was a bit sweeter and creamier than it was. My dad got the margarita flight which was also just alright, all of them very sweet. And brother got the pina colada which was a bit icey but good. Complimentary chips and salsa also weren't my favorite as the chips had a strong oil taste that overpowered, but the salsa was decent. After awhile we ordered our food, a shrimp burrito, some sort of Fajita plate and tostada. The food took a really long time to come out for a Monday night and the restaurant was not busy, however the servers were kind, just not attentive on refilling waters. My burrito was alright, there actually was an insane amount of shrimp in my burrito which was generous but not much of the other fillings. My brother and dad seemed to enjoy their food as well. We had a group of 11 and were seated promptly when we arrived at 5pm, they have a large restaurant with lots of big tables. By 6pm the restaurant was getting packed. Our servers were attentive and refilled our waters regularly, they were great! Only thing was mixing up our separate checks at the end which was a bit of a headache. Came here around noon on a Saturday with my partner and his coworker. We had just went paddleboarding around Oxnard marina and the coworker explained that she would sometimes even paddle up to the public dock next to the restaurant and go inside to eat! They have a ton of seating so although there were a good amount of people there, there was plenty of tables of available. We opted for one on the patio that overlooked the boats and marina. My partner decided to get the pink margarita flight to drink and the Baja seafood burrito to eat. I got the villas with steak and corn tortillas. His coworker seems to be a regular here and enjoys getting a margarita and the carnitas. The complimentary chips and salsa were good. We had to ask multiple people a few times to refill the chips because they kept forgetting. The margarita flight came out and it was a good amount to drink for $22! I didn't really like any of them except the spicy one. It was actually pretty spicy and delicious. The others were very sweet. My partner didn't like his burrito very much. I tried it and agreed it wasn't anything special. The shrimps and fish inside didn't taste like they had any seasoning and just seemed like they were steamed inside the burrito. The shrimp was okay but the fish wasn't very tasty. I really enjoyed my plate though. There was plenty of food! The steak, mushrooms, jalapeños, and green onions were in a delicious butter garlic sauce and were all cooked to perfection. I had no complaints whatsoever. They went perfectly in the corn tortillas with the refried beans and rice. The service was very friendly but you may just need to grab people's attention. A table that was seated next to us almost immediately after we were seated didn't get their order taken until after we got our food, and they had to notify someone. The ambiance was casual but had a great location. I would come again and definitely get my plate again or something similar. I went here because I live near the oxnard area. The staff upon entering welcomed me. I don't know if they were pretending to be nice or actually genuine. But they sortee out our seats without a problem with a nice view of the harbor outside. The food ordered was a Chile relleno, rice and beans. This Chile relleno was really big for its girth. It has a really tasty flavor and was extra salty to spike the taste buds. The other order was a shredded chicken, beans, and melted cheese called arroz con pollo. It came with corn tortillas, and it was also very salty but flavorful. The corn tortillas were freshly made as well. The price for each dish was 14$ each, and they call this their daily special within happy hour from 3 to 6 pm. 14$ is not cheap for a happy hour meal, but the food was alright, I guess, for the value. The ambiance outside was serene. Not a lot of people and good weather because it is by the beach. I thought overall for the meal it was not bad. It came with ice cream and flan at the end for dessert and free iced tea unsweetened. But overall, it was still pricey, in my opinion, and was actually the value we paid when all things considered. I say try it out if you like Mexican food because it was similar to other good Mexican restaurants like El torito, El presidente, El pollo loco and patrons. read more

Our Go-To Spot with the Best Burger in Town Yolanda's has been our go-to local spot for years. My wife and I usually walk over on Friday evenings, and every visit feels like a little tradition. Today, we stopped in for lunch on a whim--Derby Day vibes and all--and ended up sharing their Deluxe Burger. Let me just say: it's easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. Everything about it is spot on--the juicy, perfectly cooked patty, fresh toppings, a toasted bun that holds up beautifully, and just the right sauce to bring it all together. But the real secret sauce is the vibe. Mark, George, and Kerisa are the heart of the place--warm, welcoming, and always on point. They make Yolanda's feel less like a restaurant and more like your favorite hangout. It's walkable from where we live, which makes it even more special. GETTING HERE: Located on Victoria Avenue in Oxnard in/near the Seabridge Marina. (Talk about the views!) It's directly across from The Raven Tavern. REVIEW: Oh, how I love me some Yolanda's! This is only my 2nd visit here to this location, not sure why I have been sleeping on this one. Came here for a goodbye lunch for friends and over all it was a very good time. First and foremost, the service was really good. So much so that I have mentioned it here, so that means something to me. The entire party loved their food, myself included. Drinks were flowing and tasty. Chips and salsa were worth the price of admission and their salsa is one of the best around. When I can literally taste the tomatoes it's 10000% win in my book. The ambience is enjoyable as the location/view of the water is worth the drive here. My only con is: their increase on their prices! Holy cow. Sadly, we are all aware of the economy and how everything has increased in price, but I was stunned at $20 for their Chilaquiles. In their defense, it wasn't on the menu and I asked if they could accommodate my order. They sure did and the meal was enjoyable (they were good Chilaquiles but they weren't magic Chilaquiles). Have ordered my burrito from Yolandas' for a few years now. But, after returning from a winter vacation I looked forward to another tasty burrito. While I ordered the waitress informed me that the size of their burritos are now smaller but are accompanied with a 'dab' of guacamole and sour cream (sour cream has always been included) Not only that, the price is the same as the larger burrito.
