I'm pretty sure I've been coming to Taqueria El Tapatio since 2007. I frequent their Taco Tuesday Street Tacos. When I crave them, I come here Bec I do love simple & authentic. Lately I've been ordering my food To Go. They do have indoor & outdoor tables available. Just remember to bring Cash! It's "Cash Only" here. You order at the counter, pay & they give you a paper number. While waiting, help yourself to some chips & salsa. They have red & green salsa & lemon wedges at their salsa bar. I usually order Agua de Jamaica Bec it's my favorite. Note: Agua de Jamaica (pronounced ha-MY-cah) is a hibiscus iced tea drink made from dried hibiscus flowers (or "Flor de Jamaica" in Spanish), water and sugar. The hibiscus tea is very tart and almost has a cranberry-like flavor, which is why it's typically sweetened with sugar. I'm usually craving Tacos Al Pastor, so that's my usual. They do offer more authentic meat choices (lengua, cabeza, buche) if you're into that. I've had my fix of these as well. They now serve Breakfast Burritos, so I'll have to try those out soon. Parking can get full, but there's plenty of it. It's a chill atmosphere. Everyone is here to eat. There's a few Taqueria locations in Oxnard. One Location in Ventura & one in Camarillo, but I have not visited those locations... I'm pretty sure I've been holding off on doing a review, Bec, I don't want anyone & everyone to know... Welp, now they do. Just one of the many handfuls of Mexican Restaurants that Oxnard has to offer :)

I should not have ate here for lunch. The whole restaurant smelled like the restroom. The restroom itself is completely dirty and the walls are filled with graffiti, i wanted to throw up being in there for 2 minutes. The kitchen itself looks dirty and not kept clean. The burrito was decent but had some chunks of cartilage from chicken. Although when asked they stated it was chicken breast. I feel bad leaving a bad review but the state of cleanliness of this restaurant needs to be investigated.

The food is on point. It always hits and never disappoints. The service is exceptionally well. The ambiance is fine if you're looking to get a meal with a friend. The tables are kinda small but they work.

Yes. Just yes. It's a yes. Get this: Taco Al Pastor. Yup. 5/31/22

GETTING HERE: This spot is located behind the Walgreens off Ventura Road. I recommend entering off Ventura Road to access parking as it's easier than trying to access parking off 5th. REVIEW: I love tacos. I mean, I LOVE tacos. What is wrong with me that I hadn't yet been to this hidden gem with fantastic food?! Have you been here yet to try their food? I would recommend getting here ASAP. Just a note - they only accept cash. I placed my order quickly and with ease. I was a tad overwhelmed with all the options available, so I kept it quick and easy with a taco. You can't go wrong with a taco, right? And, sure enough, there was NO wrong. This taco was so good! I could Google a bunch of adjectives to describe it but please. Just go here and order something, anything. Friendly, helpful service. I'll be sure to update my review when I go back for my 2nd time. Definitely recommend!

The food is good not going to lie. But the portion sucks, $16 for a burrito the size of a frozen concession stand burrito, I'll pass.!!!

I had a bit of a longer lunch break a few weeks back so I decided to try this place because it was…read moreclose to my next client. I ordered a chile verde burrito and an agua Fresca. The burrito was good. The pork was tender and the chile verde had a good flavor. I wish the ratio of the pork to fillings was a bit more. The pork was cubed and I felt like I would reach a piece of meat every 3 bites. The salsa bar had several choices ranging from mild to hot. I got a red chile and a green salsa. I really like the red one which was a medium heat. The agua fresca was delicious and refreshing. There were a lot of locals eating here for lunch and you could tell by people saying hello to the staff or others to indict they were acquaintances.

I've always enjoyed the food here--it's good quality for a reasonable price--but the customer…read moreservice has really diminished the experience. There are two employees in particular whose attitudes are consistently unpleasant. One is a tall woman with darker skin tone who usually takes orders. She comes across as rude, never greets customers with a smile, and her tone of voice makes it feel like helping customers is a burden. The other, a woman with curly hair who mostly speaks Spanish, also responds with a rude tone and unhelpful attitude. If they dislike interacting with customers, they shouldn't be in customer-facing roles. The condition of the restaurant doesn't help either. The dining area is often dirty, and the salsa bar is poorly maintained--salsas are spilled into each other and not cleaned up. The bathrooms are filthy, smell terrible, and are frequently missing essentials like paper towels and toilet seat liners. This used to be one of the best spots for fast Mexican food, but it has really gone downhill. Owner, please check your staff and maintenance standards!

Went for dinner last night. Busy!! Still great food and service!! Sat outside. Soooo good.read more

Don't think I have had tastier Mexican food...like...EVER…read more Was a nice beach day nearby and son was craving tacos, so co-pilot suggested we go here with family for an early din-din. It's not fancy, just another hole-in-the-wall family run kinda place, and if you don't like open/exposed foods all over the kitchen and in the back, move on gringo. (Saw this as I was going to wash hands after my meal.) Place is narrow but long, about 40 seat capacity, couple outside tables but no ambiance in case you are looking for one. They serve you chips and salsa but charge 2 bucks without telling you, saw later on the bill (great chips and homemade salsa was terrific). So that and the not-so sanitary kitchen and back area so to speak, is their only faults. But their food is borderline divine. Son ordered asada tostada...it's loaded with meat and toppings, very fresh crispy tostada easy A+. Great tasty diced carne asada very easy to chew. Wife had crispy tacos dorados with shredded beef, another hit very flavorful (A-) I opted for 3 separate tacos orders: A soft grilled shrimp (A+++) one of the best tasting shrimp I've ever had ANYWHERE. Clearly NOT farm-raised plastic tasting junk, so succulent and delish. 5 pieces in a taco; good size only 5 bucks is a steal. One aforementioned crispy shredded beef taco, also solid (A-) Al pastor soft taco (A) was sensationally delish, even though would love a live al pastor carving, not very reasonable at a place like this, but was Muy Bien. The side rice is bland, beans nothing special. All this for $58 bux including tip; brought own drinks because I love me some Poppi, sick of cancerous cokes and sprites. So in a nutshell, great, heavenly mex food minus petty chips and salsa charge, and all local Mexicans eat here, so that says something. 100% will return. Menu has a huge selection. A place as authentic as this should serve something significantly better on tables than bullshit crap hack-hot sauce Tapatio basura.

We will be back! Did not even know this place existed…read more perhaps a little more marketing. Good location in my opinion. For the locals; it's took over Red Lobster restaurant. Food: very tasty. We went on taco Tuesday, $1.99/ea and It's a buffet! Many choice of protein, toppings and salsas. Service: very nice people Ambiance: just fine. Bar: tasty margaritas at $10/each They also offer Mexican Sunday brunch BUFFET! Not many in our area. We have to try that next time. Thanks.

Our group of friends recently dined here, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing…read more First, we were surprised to find that we were charged for the chips and salsa without being told there was a charge. It was only a dollar on each (5 ) of our bills but they should have told us. Many Mexican restaurants provide them as a complimentary appetizer, so it would have been nice if the server had let us know beforehand. The biggest issue, however, was the service. One person in our party never received his meal. We had to ask about it, and we were simply told, "It's coming," with no explanation or apology. We ended up waiting so we could all eat together, so my soup was cold and I ended up not eating it and had to take it home. When the bill came, I asked what had happened. I was hoping the server would apologize or at least explain the delay. Instead, she didn't really answer my question. Only after I commented that they must have forgotten it, server said his meal had burned and the kitchen had to remake it. It would have been much better if she had communicated that to us from the beginning instead of leaving us wondering what was going on. Throughout the meal, the server rarely checked on our table to see if we needed anything or if everything was okay. Given the long delay and lack of communication, I also think it would have been a nice gesture to either comp the delayed meal or at least remove the charge for the chips and salsa. And normally we would tip less but she added the tip to the bill Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable dinner with friends turned into a frustrating experience because of the lack of communication and customer service.
