Their reviews seem to really span the stars. I think it really depends on who the cook and staff are at any given time. I went there for lunch on a weekday, and I was pretty pleased with the service and food. The woman at the counter did speak English so that's always feels more comfortable, especially if you have any special requests. They have an open kitchen where they assemble orders, and the cook was rather friendly. I ordered a roasted pork burrito (I can't remember the name, but it's not carnitas). The meat was tender and tasted like it was slow cooked. The tortilla is not anything special, but all the fillings (rice, beans) were good. There is larger rice than beans ratio, but they give plenty of meat protein. I have been here several times in the past. I remember totally ratchet seating areas, where there were large holes in the floor. There seems to be some updates and the seating area is cleaned up (but I've only done takeout). I really wanted to like this local spot. But it was a little creepy. The location is unfortunately not favorable and didn't feel safe, especially with children. They had forgotten to give me my drink, and I had to stand and wait there while they went through all order receipts to confirm I ordered a soda. I have been going to this place since the 1970's. The food is good and their hot sauce is tasty. I can honestly say the carne asada has no flavor but their other meats are good. The restaurant isn't a 5 star, a little dirty, and run down but it does okay. This place is usually very mindful when it comes to being sanitary on preparing one's food. I see the cashier wash her hands after handling the money or the register. The food preparer is always usually sanitary. Unfortunately today the girl with the black gloves was cleaning wearing black rubber gloves. She was grabbing all the dirty things then after came and prepared my burrito, torta, and taquitos. She didn't change her gloves or wash her hands. That is shameful, unsanitary, disgusting, and unhealthy. I don't like to argue with people so I stayed quiet and just threw away the food. Great tasting tacos. I like to order tacos de vapor here. Tacos de vapor is where the taco meat is cooked with steam. Typical tacos de vapor are lengua and cabeza. These tacos are super juicy and delicioso. Give them a try if you've never tried these kind. You can watch the taquero at work as he or she prepares your food. I stopped in with some friends and we got the carne asada burrito, nachos, and chips with guacamole. The food was just okay, and I thought the place was overrated generally. The carne asada meat was either fatty or overcooked. Guac was fine, nothing special, and lacked spice. The chips were okay - they tasted like they were from a bag. Nachos were offensively light on meat. The restaurant itself is really run down. Chairs were missing or broken, tables had deep scratches or were broken. There was a lot of broken tile throughout the restaurant. Worst of all, it was dirty. Just plain dirty, no upkeep, not maintained, not swept, food stuck on tables level of dirty. There are so many excellent taco spots in Oxnard that I wouldn't bother returning to this one. read more

I used to come here a long time ago and it was really good. I came it's pretty rough , looks like it's in the hood it's close by not in the hood. Graffiti everywhere have to get buzzed in by the workers to use the bathroom. The customer service was really excellent. It's not really about the appearance or the parking. Parking there's minimal in the front but a lot in the back. I had a torta of carnitas , I liked it. The thing is I wish it hard more meat and the meat was fried like carnitas suppose to be. Long time fan. We moved away a few years ago and I picked up some burritos on my way thru town. Disappointed. My husband had to throw his away. He wanted a red chili beef burrito and got chicken? It's an 805 staple that deserves all the love and praise we give it. I've been coming here for over 20 years and when I come Back home to visit the price are always reasonable and the food is always always amazing. The fact that even with infliction they keep their prices reasonable for the neighborhood means the world to me. There is a place back in Atlanta that had decent burritos (they were no TDM) but I stopped going there because every time we went the price on the same 3 items we ordered went up. This was my favorite spot until tonight. I drove from north Oxnard to get my Chile Verde burrito with NO RICE and one Taco Dorado. What I got when I got home was an Oversize Burrito filled with RICE and pretty much no Chile verde. Very disappointing in the service today. The Taco was also very disappointing, it was empty maybe 1 oz of meat in the taco easy lettuce and cheese. Nothing compared to what use to be done when the other cook and lady cook were there. Seems just men now in the kitchen the past several visits and they can't serve a decent dish. UGH. I may think twice coming back here. Just disappointed because this was a favorite of mine since I've moved to Oxnard a few years ago. iv posted a great review back than. Their flour tortillas are still the bomb! The tortillas are fresh, cilantro and onions are cut everyday and fresh. Enchilada. It's your basic red sauce enchilada. But it taste great! Beans. They're good. Rice. Cooked well and not mushy at all. Burrito. Well being that the beans are good, the rice is good, and the meats are good it all goes into a burrito? yes please. I usually add cheese. Would I recommend this place? yeah it's more of a to go place. And especially if your a fan of pastor you'll enjoy it. Food: Above average depending on what you order. Decor: Needs extreme help. I have walked by this place many times, but thanks to Yelp decided to give it a shot. We order our food to go. I will be going back to try some other menu items. I got the Al Pastor Chimichanga and my partner order 1 of each Carnitas, Al Pastor, Chorizo and Asada tacos. He really enjoyed them all. He said the meat was good quality. The Al Pastor was flavorful and the chimichanga was big. Next time I will order not onions as I felt it over powered the flavors. I enjoy local spots like TDM, so I typically drive out of my way to find those places. Downtown Oxnard isn't the nicest part of the city, but it is far from the worst. As long as you don't stop by super late at night, you'll be fine. Street parking is all that's available. FOOD: Carne Asada Burrito (Pura Carne): Good! The carne asada was tender, seasoned enough, and cooked well. I highly recommend adding plenty of salsa so each bite isn't completely dry. x4 Tacos (x2 Cabeza and x2 Chorizo): The cabeza tacos were just okay; they aren't the best I've had, and a bit skimpy on the meat, but there was decent flavor. Their chorizo tacos, however, are really good! I enjoyed the flavor, but the crispy-crunchy texture it had won me over. Large Horchata: HUGE. It had great flavor and was not too grainy, but it was too sweet for me. I would stick with a regular-sized one next time. SERVICE: No issues.
