We just recently discovered that our neighbor owns this restaurant and decided we need to give it a try. The location is conveniently located off Highway 101 at Johnson Drive in Ventura in the Montalvo neighborhood in a strip mall. There is ample seating inside. We were a party of three adults. There was a very short wait at 6 PM on a Tuesday evening and our food was served very quickly. You order at the counter and then they bring the food out to you. The flavor wasn't outstanding but it was fresh and tasty. The portions are quite large and I took half of my fajitas home for the next day. We also ordered the homemade chips for $3/bag. No drinks. With tip, it was just under $60. If you like local authentic Mexican, I would recommend that you at least try Taco Mendoza.

Really good! We're on our way up to Santa Barbara and stopped here for a quick bite. Super nice guys working and really quick service! We got carne asada and carnitas tacos- both definitely delicious. Beans and rice were also super good! The inside is super clean and chill. Definitely worth trying!

I have found my favorite tacos in Ventura! The carne asada tacos and al pastor tacos were so flavorful and great meat quality. I'm a picky meat person and am constantly picking out fatty pieces from my tacos but I did not touch a single one. Every bite was perfect! Huge plus is their salsas have such great homemade flavor. Their molcajete one was my favorite. Love the self-serve salsa bar and free chips station. Every single one was crunchy and delicious. Restaurant was clean and welcoming. The staff was quick to clean tables after patrons left. Definitely a cute little hole in the wall spot with great tacos. I can't wait to go back and try more items.

Happy to have found a nice little hole in the wall taco spot in Ventura. Located in a strip mall it was easy to spot this place. There was tons of parking and I came for a late lunch so the center itself wasn't super busy. Taco Mendoza has a good amount of tables and you order up at the counter. The menu is placed on the counter so there really isn't a menu hanging that you can view if there is a line. Staff were friendly and quick. I ordered my food to go so there wasn't much of an interaction but when ordering everyone seemed nice enough. They had some young guys taking orders and packaging food with a more seasoned looking cook in the back. The kitchen is open concept so you can see what's being done. Takeout was a breeze as it seems like the meat is pre cooked because they had my tacos ready in under 2 minutes. Some may prefer meat cooked to order (I know I normally do) but today I was in a rush so it worked out. I kept it simple and went with some street tacos: Carnitas: 3/5. A little dry and bland for my taste. Wasn't bad but I wouldn't get again. Asada: 5/5. Very flavorful and tasty. The meat pieces aren't very big but they packed good flavor that I didn't even need salsa on those tacos. I would definitely get this protein again as it was good. This place is a casual solid 3.5 but bumping them up to a 4 as we can't do half stars here. I appreciate that you can get food here in under a few minutes to be out the door. Not the best tacos in the 805 but when in the area it definitely hits the spot and I would come back for some easy grab and go street tacos.

Let me start by saying I came here THREE days in a row for lunch. I finally found my new go-to taco spot and I am so happy. Very much "hole-in-the-wall" which I LOVE. Inside of the restaurant there's plenty of seating and a TV for patrons to enjoy. They have set menu items or you can order ala cart. I ordered three asada tacos and the meat just melts in your mouth. I looked back and the tacos were already gone from my plate. I knew that the very next day I had to come back. One thing I love about Taco Mendoza is the salsa and chips bar. You can have comp chips and salsa with your tacos instead of paying extra. Please keep that! I can't wait to bring friends and co-workers here.

Chile Colorado, extra rice on the side.

My favorite place for Chile Colorado! So much pleasure and a good size portion served with rice ans beans, highly recommend ordering this here. The service is really great and the food comes fast, so if you are looking for a place for a quick and delicious lunch..this is the place!

First time here and I'm sad to report I was disappointed. This place was recommended by a friend who lives in the neighborhood. Despite it's outside appearance and located in a strip mall, I didn't that that deter me from trying it out. I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon and the TV's were showing football. The place was empty but I could tell some guests had recently departed since the table was in the middle of being bussed. I was greeted by a young man who took my order. I was in the mood for tacos so I ordered a variety of them to go. 1 taco each of chicharrón with salsa roja, chicharrón with salsa verde, lengua, carnitas and pastor. The food didn't take long to be ready. Once I was able to try them a few minutes later, i discovered the chicharrón was still a little stiff. The meats all tended to lack flavor even with the salsas. But I will give it another try possibly in the future. Plus sides: Self serve salsa bar and fresh tortilla chips. Menudo & pozole avail on the weekends.

If you're in the area, please try this place! Tacos Mendoza is pretty good and tacos along with other food is delicious. Nice and friendly staff cleaning tables every time someone heads out. It's nice and spacious inside with good amount of seating. I am going to try their Tortas or burritos next!

Tacos Mendoza is the embodiment of local, neighborhood, 'everyone knows your name' joint. Tucked away in a neighborhood small strip mall, if you didn't have Yelp or live in the neighborhood you'd have no idea it was there. The food is as good as any place of its kind there is. The staff is next level friendly. Tacos Mendoza is as spotless, well-organized, and well run as can be. The food is well prepared, fresh and I find a good value for the money. The salsa bar has a nice assortment of three salsas, plus a pico de gallo, as well as limes, chopped onions with cilantro, all looking freshly prepared and stocked. There is also a serve yourself bin of fresh tortilla chips. Over my first couple of visits I've had the Beef Taquitos, Chicken Taquitos, Tostada with chili Colorado and a street taco with pastor. All excellent, including the beans and rice. I was there on a Sunday and I think we were the only ones that didn't know other people there. Big hellos and goodbyes as folks came and went. I think fully 2/3's, maybe more, of the folks were enjoying big steamy bowls of menudo, which came served with all the little sides that make it complete. I was heading to do some grocery shopping at the nearby Ralphs , which is almost walking distance, and realized I better eat something first or I'll buy every Entenmann's item on the store shelves! When I was first considering going there one of the reviews said it was a 'sketchy' location. I disagree. This is a very working class, well maintained neighborhood area. There is a liquor store and a 7/11 so perhaps late at night you might get some troublesome folks.

This place is awful. Like, "I wouldn't feed this to my enemy" awful…read more I know this isn't a "Mexican" or any sort of Hispanic/Latin type of spot, but my god this place just proves how depressing and deplorable white people tacos and burritos actually are. We came by Sunday for lunch, and surprisingly it was pretty busy, but not surprisingly the clientele were 99% people who don't know or appreciate flavor in their food. We ordered tacos, burritos, and the ahi pockets, actually known as Yubu but I wouldn't expect this crowd or even the staff to know what that is. The shrimp and fish burrito is basically rice and dry fish. No sauce. No seasoning. Dry tortilla. You bite into it and all you see is white. This is an embarrassment to burritos and seafood. All the tacos had dry, stale tortillas. Does nobody around here know what a fresh tortilla is? The grilled fish taco again with the dry fish. The fried fish taco had a slight crunch at least but again - no seasoning. And the fried shrimp taco was actually the best of everything since the shrimp itself was actually decent, but ruined by the rest of the taco. I don't understand this weird obsession with piling on dry, bland, sauceless cabbage and raw vegetables on a taco. Why am I biting into a giant piece of bell pepper? The ahi pockets? HA. If misery was a food - this would be it. The menu reads "dynamite sauce" and there was no sauce whatsoever. These are definitely pre-made and kept in the fridge because the rice was cold and chewy. The seared ahi was dry, bland, and far too cold. People truly don't know what good food is if a place like Spencer Makenzie's is still in business.

First off, the parking here is a nightmare. I literally got boxed in and had to ask someone to move their car so I could back out. Secondly, me and my coworker stop here at 11:30am for an early lunch. There is literally 1 other person there who had already ordered and got their meal just as me and my coworker sit down after ordering. We ordered 7 tacos in total... 30 minutes later the food still hadn't arrived. I finally go up to the counter to see if something was wrong and the guy had no idea about our order and said he was sorry that they had a big catering order. As a former business owner I do understand that stuff happens and a large catering order is good for business but ultimately that isn't the customers problem. Especially the customer that is sitting there at your establishment. Rather than tell us while we were ordering that it might take longer than normal, they don't communicate anything and then don't even address the issue until I go up there to complain. Once that happened the tacos came out in less than 5 minutes which is even more upsetting since this is how fast they should have come out to begin with. The gentleman who I think was an owner did apologize and try to offer some free drinks which I politely declined as I knew I'd never be back again. I hope that this business learns to service the customers properly that are actually dining there and if there is an issue at least takes some initiative to address it on the front side. Most working class people only get a 30-45 minute lunch to begin with so it wasn't cool that we literally wasted 30 minutes just sitting there with no explanation. There are plenty of other good places around Ventura for lunch - especially for tacos. Won't be going back here ever.
