This place has been my go-to for Mexican food for years now! This review is long overdue for sure! There's another Lalo's in Ventura, but this one is the one on the Ave. I usually place an order over the phone and grab my food to go. Although last time I was there, my family and I decided to eat there because we were heading somewhere else nearby afterwards. They have tables outside, and I never knew they also have tables indoors. We sat down in a booth, and a waitress brought us freshly made chips and salsa while we waited. We ordered a couple of tacos and shrimp cocktails. This place definitely makes the best shrimp cocktails ever! Everything tastes so good and fresh. One thing I really love about Lalo's is that they are always really consistent with their food. Besides their delicious food, they also have soft drinks such as Mexican agua frescas, Jaritos, and Coca-Cola. The service was good. But it's more of a fast-food restaurant, so don't expect to have someone check on you regularly. Their parking is small, but we have almost never had an issue finding a parking spot. I've tried this place quite a lot over the last year and it always seems to be hit and miss. This last time I picked up my burrito, drove it straight home and it was completely busted open. You could tell they destroyed it when they made it, but they wrapped it up anyway. Content coming out the side; small at the bottom and far too wide at the top. And the worst part? The carne was definitely salty and I had a LOT of scrambled egg in my burrito, making me wonder if it's a deconstructed relleno. The one at DVs on Telegraph is much better. Love the old school set up and that you can eat inside or out. Parking sucks so if you have time constraints, plan accordingly. I've tried lots of things here but the shrimp cocktail is hands down my favorite. The small is 16oz and $16 but worth every penny. It's fresh, light and delicious. Huge, plump shrimp, avocado, cucumber, onion, cilantro and option of chips or crackers. I'm doing keto and this has actually helped me lose weight! I'll always be coming back to Lalos. By this point it's an absolute institution on the Ave. I noticed there wasn't updated menu photos with prices- so I uploaded those. Menu has never changed much. The fish taco was good but I ordered it grilled and the few minutes it took me to get home. It was soggy and fell apart on me :/ I do love how their to-go options are now in brown paper trays instead of the styrofoam and plastic they used to use. We stopped at Lalo's for the first time. My husband enjoyed the food . They did h Get his order wrong and instead of the rolled taco plate and 1 street taco. He ended up with 2 full meals. Love stopping at lalo's every time I'm in Ventura . The burritos are always on point. Their menu is huge and guaranteed to have something for everyone. I stopped in for lunch today and they had a nice setup with the outdoor seating during this pandemic. They have plexiglass setup between the patio dining tables for safety and privacy. Today I had my usual burrito which was phenomenal and my coworker had the shrimp cocktail. In the past I've had the taco salad which I highly recommend, but I didn't get this time cause I had a two hour drive home and I didn't want to pass out in a food coma behind the wheel lol. Bummer. Used to come here in high school and I went today and the food wasn't good. I got an asada burrito and the meat was very fatty and chewy. Having lived right down the street for years, Lalo's came through for us many times. Perfect place to rely on if you don't feel like cooking and want to just pick something up real quick. We've called in many orders and they are always ready when we go to pick them up. Staff is always friendly. The menu is huge, you can get almost anything here. Personally, I like the seafood selection. They are known for their cocktails, which are fire. I've tried all of them and think the straight abalone cocktail is the tastiest. The aguachiles are good, as are the tostadas, especially the pulpo ones. Shrimp tacos are another favorite of ours. You can even get oysters here. For non-seafood, our go to was always the carnitas fries. Will definitely fill you up and soak up the hangover.
