For the past five weeks I've come in (at least once a week- even in the rain) and have ordered Pastor Tacos, usually with a Mexican Coke, during lunch and today was the busiest I've ever seen Don Lalo's. I was thrilled and excited for them to be so busy. The person at the cash register was incredibly friendly and doing an amazing job multitasking grabbing food, taking orders, and answering the phone nonstop. They were very friendly, but this is when I noticed there was preferential treatment when "named" regulars came in. It was obvious the kitchen got backed up and no biggie as the service was INITIALLY FRIENDLY. That's when the dynamic changed. At least (5) people after me ordered several minutes, if not 10-15 minutes after me, except one food order and they ALL got their food before me! The cashier/employee recognized most, if not all, of them. Initially I thought nothing of it, but slowly I soon realized ONLY ONE had placed a phone order. Everyone else ordered "their usuals" or ordered on the spot. Yet my three tacos took 20-25 minutes and weren't "ready" even though a regular just walking in could get their food right away. I eventually stood up and two new customers walked in when the cashier finally said something, "You had the X Burrito, right?" "No, I ordered the three Pastor Tacos." He then grabbed and bagged the tacos up. No apologies. No thanks for your patience or anything like he did for ALL the people ahead of me, who had ordered and waited- dine in and takeout. I spent almost all of my 30 minute lunch waiting and clearly I was treated differently as a customer. I guess new consistent customers aren't worthy to go in actual order of when food is placed. If I had the time I would've gladly said something then and there as everything had died down by the time my takeout was handed to me. However, I had to hurry back to work. This experience was deeply disappointing and clearly preferential treatment exists here. I'm mad because a coworker recommended them to me and I in turn recommend it to three others, who have all since gone. There is nothing wrong with delays, but communication is a big deal. The fact the dozen or so customers before me, including dine-in, got an apology, but not me and that several people ordering after me got their food before me is deeply disturbing. For the time being, you've lost a customer and maybe one day I will give you another chance. In the meantime I will go elsewhere as clearly visiting weekly for five straight weeks and becoming THE DUKE on Yelp means nothing.

While I was waiting, I asked Alan for a couple more salsa containers to be able to try one of each from the salsa bar and he wanted to charge me .50c each container after they messed up my order. I was beyond frustrated that I was not able to fully enjoy my meal before rushing into work. I topped these with the green salsa which was mild in spiciness but full of flavor. Both really good tacos. The red salsa had a slight smokey flavor and tasted really good. The bean and cheese burrito was decent. Not bad at all, pretty typical whole pinto beans and cheese. Chips and pico de gallo were decent. The chips were crisp and obviously made in house. The pico served with the chips was kinda bland. It was fresh but I felt it needed something else. Combined with the red salsa really elevated it. It is wrapped in a leaf rather than the usual corn husk. I've tried the steak taco salad and steak taco plate, both were also very good. The steak is cooked well done but surprisingly not tough or chewy. I wasn't offered any chips so I don't think they give out complimentary chips, but I do see it on the menu available for purchase. Also if paying by credit card there is a 3% surcharge so if you want to avoid the fee bring cash.

You can taste the tartness of the tomatillo in the chile verde which makes a nice contrast to the enchilada sauce which it is smothered in along with the cheese. Tamale also really good. Never had it served with sauce and cheese before. It would have been outstanding without the topping. Birria and consommé were very salty yet without much of a dominant flavor. The taco was also very greasy and I could only finish about half. Would return but skip the birria and ask for less sauce / cheese.
