I had a really good lunch here today and I had to report back. I've passed by this business for years now and today I came in as a happy accident as one of the other spots in this shopping center I tried to frequent was closed. Craving something new I saw Cabo Beach Grill and decided to give it a go. This spot is a no frills Americanized Mexican restaurant. It's giving beachy, almost like a more mom and pop Baja Fresh? The decor inside and out was cute, very on theme for a Cabo type beach vibe. They put effort into their decor and brand which I can appreciate. You order at the counter and then they'll bring your food to your table. So it's very casual, no table side service. There was a lot that this spot does well. For starters they have a really big menu, so a lot of options to choose from. Also the staff were super friendly and welcoming. Coming in for lunch it definitely wasn't super busy but there was a steady trickle of customers. Since it wasn't overly busy it was a relaxed and quieter atmosphere and the staff were very on top of things during the down time. Staff were quick to busy dirty tables, clear plates, etc. The gentlemen at the register were friendly and attentive during my dine in experience. Also, I appreciate that my meal was pretty well paced as they fried up the taquitos fresh but as soon as they were done, they came right to my table. If you are on a time crunch, this is a good spot that is pretty fast. They have an immaculate salsa bar here! One of the best I've actually seen. So many salsa options and I was so grateful that their more mild salsas weren't just a generic tomato dip. They actually had a creamy white mild salsa which was so good. Also I upped the spice and tried a medium green avocado / pepper type sauce that was phenomenal. I love this salsa bar and it definitely hasn't gotten the hype it deserves. For my food it was an overall 4 stars. It hits the spot and is some classic Mexican American cuisine. My pork taquitos were a 5/5. Plenty of pork and cooked crispy and fresh. Also love that the guacamole and sour cream they put on top was fresh. The rice and beans were more mid - like a 3.5, nothing to rave home about but good taquitos as my main. Overall, though the food was good and I would definitely come back. If you are looking for a casual spot, this is definitely a good option for lunch or dinner, the staff are really friendly and the food is cooked fresh to order. I live for their salsa bar! Just remember that this isn't a very unique or special place, but what they do get right here is enough to have me coming back again for sure. read more

Pleasantly surprised by how much their food has improved since our last visited. We hadn't been for years when the food was very disappointing. Glad to see that the food has gotten tastier! They had a 3 chicken taquito plate for $5. No sides, but considering it was like an extra $10 for rice, beans, and a drink - this was a great deal. And they were delicious! They also had some carne asada fries. Could've used a bit more meat, but overall, it was a large portion of fries that were great for sharing. Wouldn't be my first choice for food, but a good choice to grab a bite when we're in the area. read more

Edith the owner was so sweet today. She and her husband have recently taken over the business and have a lot of great ideas. They added two new salsas to the salsa bar; both were very flavorful and tasty. They are working on a new website that I cannot wait to see published. I did get a peek at it. The place is very clean and well maintained. We had tacos today; they were very good. The meal was presented with chips and salsa which is always a bonus. A group of us are headed there in the near future to try new items and catch up. Looking forward to the lovely atmosphere! I've come into Cabo Beach Grill about a dozen times, and I have tried several menu items. I don't think I'll be going back. I was never overly impressed with their food, or their salsa, but I keep giving them a try because I love the location. It's near a lot of shops I frequent, and there are several restaurants nearby that I love, but I keep going back in here thinking I'll find something on their menu that I really love. My favorite thing about this place is the restaurant itself. It's nice and dark and intimate feeling, it's clean and has really good Air Conditioning for hot days, but it's always completely empty inside, which always amazes me. I go in and I can sit there in tranquility with cool AC, and the room itself all dark and shady and clean. Every time I go though there's no one else there. There might be one guy sitting by the cooks talking to them that the cooks and owner know personally, like a family member or friend, but no customers. I keep wondering what kinda shady business is this. Is it a money laundering business? I don't see people coming in much for any real reason. I saw a homeless guy walk in when I was in there, and he asked if they had a bathroom. The woman at the register, who I believe is an owner told him the restrooms were broken. I don't know if they really were or not. I don't want to really pick on this place, because it's not really bad food or anything, it's just very bland. I ordered chips and salsa, and for fun decided to get all of the different salsa flavors to try them all. I got the creamy one, the pico de gallo, the mild verde, and the hot one. The pico was okay but kind of watery with only a slight hint of tomato, onion and cilantro flavor, it was pretty watered down, I'm not sure why but maybe the tomatoes were just not the correct ripeness. I'm still not sure how pico can taste bland like that, even the onions weren't that strong and I could barely taste cilantro. So slight a person who hates cilantro would eat it fine... but I love cilantro. The verde was okay, very mild, again kind of watered down. The cream was the best but again, barely any flavor. Not spicy whatsoever, just a mild creamy tomato flavor with a hint of tang. The hot sauce (red) was the most flavorful and spicy, but not too spicy, but it had an odd taste, almost like a liquid smoke was added. I've never tasted a hot sauce that tasted like that. I do love me some good hot sauces and love those burnt black ones too but this was like liquid smoke. It was weird enough that I just stuck with the cream one. The food itself is also quite bland. I don't know why everything was so bland, it's not like we live in a state that's all white people like in the mid-west, where bland is normal. This is California. Ah well... maybe that's why not many customers are coming in. Honestly I don't know the only complaint I really have is that everything is so bland. My advice is to spice it up a bit. This place is fresh, and clean, but bland. I'm just looking for something spicier. read more

What a great place for Taco Tuesday! I'm sure they are great on other days, too, but this is what brought me in this first visit. :) On my next visit, I will sit outside just for something different. Not a bad thing with inside seating, it's just darker than I would like. Place looked pretty clean as was the restroom. Easy to order, food was ready quickly and hot. The service was OK and the tacos were outstanding. I know there are only a few adjectives you can use to describe food, but they really were very good. I'm pretty picky when it comes to tacos. My son insisted on trying this place partly because he said I was "starving" him, partly because it smelled good as you pass by. The place was empty for the exception of one guy on his skateboard ahead of us. My boys ordered Asada tacos and a nacho plate with Asada. All to go. The place looks clean, I'll give them that. They have a salsa bar with a name of salsa and description of each salsa available. The pico de gallo didn't look all that fresh, maybe it was fresh today and granted is after 2 pm but still... I met up with an old college friend for a bite to eat here since we were both hungry for food. The place was completely empty upon entrance so I had a suspicious feeling this place wasn't going to be amazing :( I ordered 2 pastor tacos for $3.50? based on their special posted outside with an horchata to wash it down. My friend ordered 2 veggie tacos with a Jarritos and we swapped each of our tacos to try both types. The veggie taco was actually tastier than the al pastor tacos. The guy who rang us up forgot about our horchata and didn't tell my friend to pick up a Jarritos from the mini fridge when we wanted our drinks. Got my new Entertainment Book and happened to be in Ventura for the afternoon. I stopped at the Cabo Beach Grill for no other reason than the fact that I had a coupon! I love that book; it takes me to places unseen! Upon scoping the menu, nothing was over $10, even the entrees! WOW! We each ordered burritos, mine steak and my partner in crime ordered the mahi mahi. Both burritos were extra long! The salsa bar had good variety with one salsa that had a blend of sour cream, so it was a white color...very tasty. So, back to the burritos, they were really good. The shell was grilled and a bit crisp on the outside, inside had lots of cheese, steak (not the highest quality meat, but good) and rice, beans, etc... The black beans were from a can, the taco shells were preordered, and the meat was overdone, toothsome, and possibly cooked a day ahead of time. Service: Just what you would expect. Ordered take out over phone today. Took about 10 minutes to be done. For take out I am very happy food was still warm and complete (I got a tostada bowl and those aren't easy keeping whole). Ordering over the phone went well..the woman taking the order/register wasn't mean or friendly..that's okay with me. It was quiet inside, but take out orders present. I have lived here for years but I rarely eat out, I shop at Vons next door to this place all the time but have never stopped in. Yesterday I did because I was just too tired to cook, and I already want to go back today. I got the steak tacos and a potato, egg, and cheese breakfast burrito. The steak was tender and full of flavor, and they filled those little tortillas so they overflowed with steak. I love cilantro and when they asked "cilantro and onions okay?" I was happy to find a very generous amount of cilantro on my tacos. The breakfast burrito was so good I can see it being addictive, especially if I can add ingredients and make it my own.
