This is an out of the way sparkling Little Gem of a Mexican cafe. I love the relaxed ambiance and deem the murals and decorations to be quite beautiful. The food is absolutely delicious, authentic flavors and styles. Today, I enjoyed the nopales y huevos sprinkled with freshly made salsa, with stuffed o rice and beans. The staff are authentically friendly, not pretentious or fake, but extending simple warm hospitality. Feels like eating at a family members house. I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. My only wish for this place is that it was more on the beaten path. What a nice hidden gem of a restaurant that's tucked in the industrial part of Oxnard. Looking outside and seeing all the big rigs drive by was a pleasant sight to see. As for the food, here's what my wife and I got: Carne asada torta - Flavors were great but just wished the asada was a little softer. Huevos rancheros- my wife got this and she loved it. She said the dish was flavorful and tasted like it was home cooking. The service was great by the staff, and the inside was very welcoming and homey. Best of all the price was pretty good. The welcoming smiles of the women hosting and cooking at this diner should've given some clue; my husband, our dog, and I felt like regulars. Then came the food... I'm so glad Huevos Divorciados comes w the duo of salsas. The acidity of the verde powerfully contrasted with the subtle kick of the rojo, ensuring that each bite provided something new. Having a tendency to order more food than I can eat in one sitting--becoming the king of to-go boxes--I ordered the pastor nachos. The pastor spice blend at Casa Grande can best be described as the gastronomic equivalent of a triple axel performed on an Olympic ice rink; both acts require years of labor and love to perfect. I will be thinking fondly of Casa Grande for quite some time. We might even have to take a field trip up to Oxnard for another visit. Absolutely fantastic experience. Despite the lack of reviews we decided to check this place out. It's in an industrial location and shares a parking lot with an auto body collision type shop which explains the crashed car that the other reviewer complained about. We saw no homeless people taking showers and we felt safe. That other review was just silly. The menu had a nice variety and a lot of Mexican breakfast choices. I got the Chile verde breakfast and my Husband got the divorciados. They were both tasty. My son got the pancakes children's breakfast and he pretty much ate it all. We had no complaints other than the portions being a little small for the price. Our plates were the same size as our son's children's plate. The complimentary chips and salsa were good though and we most likely be back. 4 stars for service and food. Minus one for small portions ratio to price. read more
