raw shrimp under all that sauce and herbs
    Lea M.

Disappointing. We stayed at Zachari Dunes hotel for over a week and I was excited to try this food truck concept, ordering on two separate days from them. The first time I went, I was hangry. I ordered a shrimp skewers. Service was quick and I later realized why. The shrimp were not fully cooked. Still veiny and grayish in color on the inside and slimy. I shoved a whole piece in my mouth before realizing. GAG. I went and cut the other pieces and it was oozing pink juice and saw that under all those herbs and sauce, the actual shrimp was raw. I prayed I wouldn't get food poisoning from that piece I already chowed down on (I was hangry). I went right back and let them know, they apologized and made a new order for me, of course this time it was over cooked as the shrimp had a hard time coming off the wooden skewer. Nevertheless, I was grateful for cooked shrimp. On another day, my second experience with them, I ordered some fish and chips. The service was short and not friendly. I was quick to pay and waited on the side for my order. It came out, with no sauces or utensils. I went back to ask for sauce, forgetting to ask for utensils/napkin, the chef seemed bothered I was asking for my missing sauce, so I didn't bother returning to ask for utensils or a napkin. The fish batter was poorly done, just some white fish, with thick batter that overwhelms the whole meal, parts of the fried batter was soggy too. The fries were decent I guess. Not the best experience overall, don't really recommend this place. Food service is way better by the pool or at Ox & Ocean (they also do to go orders).

I had high hopes for Sugar Beats, but two mornings in a row of disappointment ruined it for me. It is a cute little spot right on the property of the Zachari Dunes resort, set up like a permanent food truck. I was excited because it was right down the stairs from our room and I dreamed of going down for a specialty coffee and yummy breakfast each morning. Unfortunately morning one, they only had drip coffee and water for drink options. I settled for the drip coffee, and also ordered Nutella French Toast and a Breakfast Burrito for my children, and a donut for myself. To be honest, the donut was better than the meals, both of which I sampled. And thank goodness the on-site restaurant Ox and Ocean offered specialty coffees to go, because the second morning, I gave Sugar Beats another try, and still, nothing but drip coffee. The third morning I didn't even bother, but I glanced at the menu and there were so many items taped over on the menu that were not being offered. I realize this time of year (December/January) is slow as far as hotel guests but...... The staff however were very sweet when taking orders. I would not be against trying again if I stay at the resort in the future, but Sugar Beats wouldn't be a first choice.

My family and I are staying at the resort, came to sugar beats for breakfast. Paid $14 per burrito, $6 for a cappuccino and $4 for regular coffee. The cashier got our order wrong and continued to make mistakes. We ended up eating cold burritos as it took them 20 minutes to find tortillas to make the last portion of the order. And somehow the cashier thought it was funny she was unable to locate tortillas but had found milk. The ambiance is great as the Sugar Beats is within the resort. Sadly the service was horrendous, a total waste of $70.00 plus dollars!! NOT HAPPY AT ALL ___________________ UPDATE 4:36pmI HAVE DECIDED TO INCLUDE THIS UPDATE FROM MY ORIGINAL REVIEW. SIMPLY BECAUSE THE CUSTOMER ATTENTION RECEIVED FROM HOTEL MANAGMENT REGARDING THE BAD EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN IMPRESSIVE. ABOUT 30 MINUTES AFTER THE INCIDENT I RECEIVED A PHONE CALL AND TEXT MESSAGES FROM MANAGEMENT APOLOGIZING FOR THE BAD SERVICE(plus, I appreciate a response to my yelp) In any industry errors will be made, but I truly believe that the caliber of a business is measured by the response of the owner after a complaint had been made. In this case, one person made mistakes but SEVERAL people took charge, paid attention and took action. ALSO: I was a bit upset with my 1st review I forgot to mention that the food was actually yummy yummy

    Best churros ever.

Get the churros. They're so good. We had them every morning-- cappuccinos were delicious too, but they didn't have anything other than whole milk/almond/soy (no low fat/non fat milk). Quick and easy.

We had breakfast from the little airstream (kind of like a permanent food truck) on the hotel grounds. The eating area was super cute, surrounded by trees. Coffee was great, I got an Americana, they had milk, 1/2 & 1/2 and oat milk to choose from. Breakfast tacos were good. The burrito was really good! Green salsa homemade, so fresh and flavorful. Friendly service!

Very cute outdoor dining with Airstream at Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach! They are open everyday for breakfast. Breakfast: 6:30 am - 12:00 pm Lunch: Friday - Sunday | 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm Dinner: Friday and Saturday | 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm Food and service were good! I love the Ahi Tuna Wrap!!! The restaurant is open to the public. The hotel is close to the beach so maybe that's nice to walk on the beach after breakfast or lunch. There is valet parking/self parking for the hotel. Also you can park at the parking of beach park next to the hotel (for free)

Good // Service // Ambiance. All amazing. Had a great smash burger! The location is great

I have been meaning to try this place out for awhile!! I am so glad I did! The jumbo shrimp tacos are soooo flavorful and fresh tasting! The man taking my order was so kind too! I also can't get enough of the fun vibes by the lake and string lights. You should definitely try this place with a group of friends and then head to the beach for a picnic!

    Smash burger...double patty and fries

Ordered the smash burger. Its new on the menu. Yum yum YUM! And the fries were crisp and hot. Cute food truck at the Zachari Dunes hotel. You feel like you are in an oasis. Servers in the truck were SO nice too. Quick delivery. Surrounded by waterfalls. Soaking in the sun. A++

    Air Stream style food truck!
    Don T.

This is clever. In the resort courtyard is a permanent Air Stream style trailer set up like a food truck! My wife and I enjoyed the delicious breakfast burrito, accented with a tasty tomatillo salsa. On Taco Tuesday we dined on al pastor, chicken tinga and ox tail tacos seated comfortably beneath the beautiful trees of the courtyard.

Double smash burger at Sugar Beats at Zachari Dunes. The best in Oxnard.

the smashburger is so good i had to come back again. seriously good. Glad that Zachari Dunes has this option.

Waitresses try their best but seem stretched too thin to be very attentive. You are made to use Cakes online ordering and wait list program which is less than ideal because of their slow WiFi. While waiting for a table you are updated on your place in line. On our last visit we waited as next to be seated for 20 minutes as multiple large parties showed up late and were seated immediately. We were told they were friends of the owner and there's nothing they could do but the staff hates it- for what that's worth. Today my Avocado toast left much to be desired. Sourdough tastes like dry thin sliced white bread. Small amount of smashed Avocado; not enough to cover the bread topped with less than fresh pico da gallo, arugula a balsamic drizzle and 3 slices of tomato that were marinated in Italian dressing. All things I like but the combination was not good. BLTA used the same disappointing bread, flaccid under cooked bacon a tiny amount of pesto aioli and more avocado then there was on the avocado toast. Kids mini pancakes were good but chocolate chips are $1 up charge. I will say yesterday's eggs Benedict was good- hollandaise is excellent. Breakfast potatoes were a bit undercooked. Bloody Mary was a bit weak in my opinion. After all of that- I got a look at the receipt and there is a 2% BOH RevShare added to the bill. My best guess is this is fee to help pay the kitchen- To be honest we went here because it was a short walk from the Hilton. After the poor service, bad quality and hidden fees- we would be better off eating on the resort.

The market had many more booths than I was expecting after reading the write up. They had a mix of food items for sale from fruits and veggies to desserts, to fish to drinks but they also had jewelry, clothes, toys, cremes and balms and other assorted items. Their fruits and veggies were impressive. It was so vibrant, colorful, fragrant. Enjoy my photos of the berries to see what I mean. My coffee cake item had saran wrap but it had a hole in it, and it was very stale. I am assuming that the hole led to it being stale and not that it was an old item not freshly made that day.
