Holy lobster roll!!! Everywhere in Maine advertises "the best lobster roll in town." Foot Bridge Lobster absolutely lives up to this standard! 5oz of lobster on top of a perfect buttery roll. I asked for "light on the mayo" and there was barely any dressing, which made it absolutely perfect. No added fillers, no veggies, just straight up lobstah! And the lobster isn't chopped as a way to sneak in leg meat. It was all huge claw and tail pieces, mostly whole taken directly out of the shell. I had to eat 2 layers of lobster before I could even try to eat it as a sandwich. Perfection. I also had a lobster blt (when in rome), and it was great. A little heavy on the mayo, but I would tell them next time to go lighter. My husband had the swordfish sandwich twice and also enjoyed it. 1 star for the mayonnaisey coleslaw, but not coming here for the sides. read more

We stumbled upon Footbridge Lobster during our 2012 trip to Maine. We had fallen in love instantly, our favorite lobster roll of the whole trip. During that trip, we ended up going twice during our three days in Maine and knew it would be a stop whenever we came back to Maine. Footbridge Lobster is a tiny shack that is located right next to The Lobster Shack in Perkins Cove which is a quaint area of Ogunquit, Maine. Since we had dinner plans, we decided to split one lobster roll on our first visit. We couldn't quite remember what we had gotten the last time but had thought it was a lobster roll with light mayo ($15.95). All lobster rolls come with cole slaw, which is a nice change from the usual chips (or nothing!). After a short wait we were presented with a lobster roll with huge chunks of lobster, lightly dressed in mayo, and placed in a buttered and grilled bun. Sadly, it wasn't as good as we remembered. While there was a ton of lobster meat, the meat was chewy and flavorless. The mayo was so light that it was pretty much non-existent. The cole slaw was sweet and crunchy and was the highlight of the meal. We were really disappointed that the lobster roll wasn't as good as we remembered. On our last day in Maine, we decided we had to give Footbridge Lobster another shot since we had loved it so much in 2012. Thus, we chalked it up to being late in the day or an off day and went back to try it again. We decided on two lobster rolls for breakfast (yes, why not?) and went with one with butter and one with mayo. I had remembered that the previous year the accompaniment had been potato salad. We talked with the people running the shack and they shared that they didn't have it this year. Sad, that potato salad was quite good but the cole slaw was a good substitute. Maybe next summer the potato salad will be back? :) Now, this is what we remembered. Both lobster rolls were absolutely fantastic. The meat was perfectly cooked - sweet and and so tender - and there was a ton of large chunks of meat. We both agreed that we prefer the roll with mayo over the one with butter; but, the meat in both rolls was absolute perfection. They also have punch cards. Buy 10 lobster rolls, get the 11th free! We paused for a minute trying to decide between Footbridge Lobster and the Lobster Shack (Food Wars episode?). We made the right choice with Footbridge. The lobster rolls are made fresh to order, and to your specifications. You can choose mayo, butter, or plain with either mayo or butter on the side. There was probably a whole lobster there, and the chunks were big and identifiable. You know you're eating a claw or the tail, it's all there. I had the mayo, it was delicious and the mayo was very light and not overwhelming. My Wife had the butter, and it was the same. The lobster is definitely the main focus of this lobster roll. You get your choice of a side of chips or cole slaw. We both opted for the cole slaw, which was very good, but beware it is sweetened. On the side we had an order of fries, which was good as well. The biggest issue was the seating, as there is none. Luckily we managed to get a bench right under the Footbridge, so we had a good spot to avoid the sun and enjoy our lobster roll. There are plenty of other benches around to eat, but they were all in the sun. The lobster roll at Footbridge is a great reward after walking the Marginal Way from Ogunquit Beach and good fuel for the trek back. read more

Back for another visit in Ogunquit, and it appears that in the past year, a lot has changed at Footbridge. Yes, the location is the same, as are the people. But there have been a few changes for this season, and I'm afraid not for the better. The good news is that the lobster rolls remain the best in Ogunquit. They're more expensive this year, but they remain piled high with fresh lobster. As long as this never changes, they'll keep my business. But, there are a few other staples of the place that don't fare as well. For one is their lobster dinner. It used to be 2 for $9.99, and climbed to 2 for $12.99 last year. Still reasonable. Now it's $15.95 for a ONE pound lobster, buy one get one free. There are much better values to be had in town. The other disappointing change is the breakfast sandwich. This used to be an awe-inspiring pile of egg and lobster on a fantastic biscuit. Now, it's an overdone fried egg with a dab of cheese and some lobster on a piece of toast. Honestly, it's so close to the grilled cheese, getting the breakfast sandwich doesn't make a lot of sense. I've also been perturbed by how many times several parts of my orders were not taken, or were missing from the order. All I can say is check your receipt and check your bags before you take off. Footbridge is still a great place to get lobster, but a lot of what made it such a great value seems to have slipped away, and it threatens to make this just another lobster shack instead of THE place to go when in Ogunquit. read more

This was my first lobster roll ever, and it turns out this roll is the pinnacle of the form. Every other roll since had not held up in comparison to this first one. First, there was so much meat you can't even eat it like a roll at first--you have to thin it out a little by eating some lobster. Then, the meat is perfectly juicy and tender--and well flavored. Finally, the roll is toasted to golden brown and has just a hint of butter. Sides: The cole slaw is crunchy and fresh. The fries are hand cut and very potato-y, though totally lacking in salt. Good to know: Takeout only, but there are benches nearby right on the shore. There's also a beautifully clean public restroom nearby. Parking is AWFUL and will make you want to throw in the towel before you even get the roll--but stick it out! read more

Two words: Lobster Roll! I've had Lobster rolls at various places in and around Perkins Cove and Footbridge has the best, hands down. At dinner time, I ordered a roll with mayo (vs. hot & with butter). It was packed into a fresh hotdog roll and the lobster meat piled over the sides. The wait was minimal at about 10 minutes (only because I was part of a larger party). Someone in my party ordered the whole belly clams and the serving was huge. They also complimented on how delicious they were. Overall, a great experience. The staff was also very friendly and We got to see lobsters delivered fresh that same morning. A+ read more

Yum yum yum!! First of all, really hard to mess up fresh lobster. This little lobster stand is at the tip of Perkins Cove, past all the fancy restaurants and right next to the lobsterman parking lot and across from a cute draw bridge that looks out onto the water. The surroundings are picturesque and the little lobster stand is a no frills place to get great lobster at a great price. We got the buy one get one free deal (yep!), which ended up being $20 for two lobsters (1lb each) that came with a bite (literally) of Cole slaw or fries (which I wish we had gotten instead). The lobsters are boiled for you and the shell is so soft you don't need anything other than your hands to eat the whole thing. The lobsters are on the smaller end, and come with a little cup of butter to make the lobsters even more delicious. Fresh fresh lobster, caught right there and boiled to yummy perfection, at a price that can really only be found in Maine, the land of lobsters :) would definitely come again! read more

The owner catches his own lobster and prepares the meat for the lobster rolls that morning. Full of succulent and sweet lobster meat, the lobster roll is served on a toasted slightly sweet bun. We got a side of french fries which were piping hot and a good accompaniment to the lobster roll. The lobster in the roll can be ordered plain, tossed in butter, or in mayo. My wife and I visit Ogunquit every summer and all i can think about on the ride up is the lobster roll and whole belly clams I am going to eat. The lobster rolls, 5oz of succulent, abundant lobster meat in a tasty bun that does its best to contain its contents, are top notch. Went here on a whim after a long beach day. We were intending to go to the Lobster Shack based on the good Yelp reviews, but they had a line and we were super hungry. I panicked ordered and ended up with a lobster BLT which was so delicious! Big pieces of lobster and crispy thick cut bacon. I was so full I didn't end up having room for Cole slaw. (My friends ordered lobster rolls and the haddock and the portions were also really big.) We ordered at the window and ate over on the benches overlooking all the boats. If there is one thing that I've learned about Maine lobster rolls, it's that the best rolls come from little shacks with pickup windows rather than sit down restaurants such as Maine Diner and J's Oyster. Footbridge is a prime example. The roll was heaping with fresh, delicious lobster meat. Son and I had the lobsters. We were very happy because he only likes the claw meat and I only like the tail meat. Works out great. Daughter had her usual "I don't like lobster, grilled cheese with bacon please" moment. Good food all around. Only issue was ... nothing! We were going to stop at Billy's, they do tempt you when you first arrive in Perkins cove, but we decided to head further down the road and ended up at a little shack called Footbridge. Everything was fresh and made right on the spot. Prices were much better than Billy's. The only downfall is that they have no seating. So you have to find a public park bench to sit and enjoy your meal. We visit Ogunquit every summer and this time, after seeing other folks walking around with rolls heaped to overflowing with beautiful lobster, we stopped into the Foot Bridge Lobster shack. This is a walk-up and take away operation that has a variety of lobster meals and other assorted sandwich items. My party had lobster rolls and a lobster grilled cheese. All of the food was delicious including the cole slaw which was perfectly matched with the lobster in terms of spices and dressing (just enough of each). Even the rolls were good, not a grocery store hot dog bun, but a bakery fresh hoagie roll, toasted. If you're in at the beach in Maine, where there are lobster restaurants everywhere, stop by Ogunquit, walk the Marginal Way to Perkins Cove and when you get there, check out Foot Bridge Lobster. We just happened on this place while we were driving around the area. I loved that the owner of the stand is also the lobsterman. My husband and I were hoping for their lobster special (2 1lb lobsters for $18!!!), but unfortunately, the lobsterman was out catching lobsters so they didn't have it available. We split a lobster roll and a cup of clam chowder and they were both really good! The lobster was nice and fresh and there was just enough butter so the lobster wasn't over powered by it. The clam chowder was also good. not super creamy but had a good amount of stuff in it. Nice combination, the bread is quality and the lobster was fresh - had mine with butter - felt a little plain but very good -  if I had time  I would have pulled over and combined the cole slaw with the lobster and made a SLOBSTER ;)  I don't know what mayo would have tasted like - I'm afraid it would have over powered the lobster flavor. Really great customer service with friendly staff ready to make educated recommendations and a warm smile! No seating (it's literally a shack) so we found a comfy rock overlooking the bay and chowed down on some most delicious lobsta while watching the sailboat come and go. Great little lobster shack in the middle of a touristy part of town. Their owner has a lobster boat, so the lobster is fresh off the boat - were actually sitting live in a cooler when we ordered. We didn't get one of those, though, but what we got was still great. Wanted to try something other than normal whole lobster or a lobster roll. I got lobster BLT, and the wife got grilled cheese w/lobster. Both were on buttery, crisp bread. Both had large, not hunks of lobster throughout. The owner is a lobster fisherman who just drops off the smaller lobsters for the shack to sell after he comes in from checking his traps so the lobster is fresh every day. The service was incredibly friendly. He pointed out all of the places we could sit and eat to us, which was definitely helpful since there are no tables at the shack itself. The lobster roll was perfectly cooked and chilled, with just the right amount of mayonnaise and a fresh grilled bun from a local bakery. The lobster tastes of lobster, from the boat across the street. The cole slaw was crunchy with just the right amount of sauce to let the hot cabbage flavor make its presence known. Cole slow should be cold, and it was. The chowder tasted of claims; the creamy was dreamy. The onions rings: I would have given the batter another shake and cooked another 30 seconds.
