This is a 5 restaurant to me, because you get exactly what you order, atmosphere is clean & full of natural light and there's something for everyone on the menu. My other half likes fried food, while I like grilled. He gets the fried catfish and shrimp basket with fries, and every time he CLEANS THE PLATE! I've never tried it but my guess is it's good if he's doing that. My personal favorite is the grilled salmon plate, which has 2 sides included. There is an array of sides you can choose from: fries, salad, potatoes, grilled squash and zucchini, green beans, red beans and rice, onion rings AND MORE. I mainly choose the side salad with their sesame seed dressing and onion rings. It fulfills my healthy and "lets be naughty" craving (the onion rings are legit the best in FW, because the batter is sweeter than others). Today, I got the red beans and rice though, amazing! Found this place on Yelp & so glad we did! Our family rolled in late afternoon for a late lunch/early dinner. The food was fantastic & the service was helpful & friendly. We tried a variety of things off the menu & it was all really good. The seafood tasted fresh and all the fried, grilled & boiled options were delicious! We had the hushpuppies, gator nuggets, chilled boiled shrimp, new potatoes, shrimp & crab boil and the hula poppers, which are bacon wrapped jalapeños stuff with shrimp and cheese. 10/10 recommend the hula poppers. Incredible. We also loved the shrimp & crab boil. It has a really spicy kick to it. The chilled shrimp tasted super fresh as well & the hush puppies were crispy & delicious. Gator nuggets were good. I looked at the inner shell discoloration, had great trepidation, but tried one, spat it out, and sent took the tray back. The parking is horrible there's if you try to come here anytime after 6 o'clock. My fiancé ordered the catfish and shrimp basket and I got the grilled red snapper. The catfish meat was slimy and I've literally gotten better at fast food restaurants and the best way to describe the shrimp is that it tasted dirty. The red snapper was good but I will say it was a little dry and I wish there was a little more seasoning. I have to say, that I am more than a little disappointed. Truth be told, for geographical reasons, whenever I thought about this restaurant, I wasn't close, and I didn't think about it when I was close. When I did think about it, for a long time, I wanted to check it out. Finally, the fates aligned and my wife and I made the pilgrimage to investigate. On arrival, it was a bustling Saturday afternoon (around 4:30 PM), with fantastic Blues music playing, an aesthetic that was right off the pier, and "Cajun" fare to be had... I was optimistic. On arrival at the counter, I asked the young lady if their beer-battered onion rings could be substituted for the fries, in one of the basket combos and she affirmed that they could. I was set. My wife ordered the grilled Mahi Mahi and ceviche and I ordered a basket with fried catfish and shrimp, with an extra side of their spinach. WIth two fountain drinks in hand, I thought we had a fair sampling of their offerings, so we sat at our chosen table. This started our descent... Firstly, the flies in the front room were more than annoying. I get that an establishment cannot prevent every fly from coming in, but this was a little excessive. The most lamentable was the food, unfortunately. To start with, when I picked up our order, no onion rings. I asked about it and, long story short, the young lady that rang in our order, never keyed in the rings (although less than nine seconds had elapsed after being asked for the substitution). To his credit, the gentleman preparing the orders for pickup offered to correct it, but if the girl keyed in fries, I paid for fries, so I kept them. Back to it... The grilled Mahi Mahi had zero seasoning. Come to think of it, there was more seasoning in the tartar sauce than most of the food items I tasted. Plain boiled/drained spinach, the thinnest planks of catfish (to say that this equated to a 50-50 mix of fish to overdone breading would be generous), and flat overcooked shrimp that seemed to have been less than complete, in the name of "butterflying". Besides the great music and kitschy decor, the closest thing to a redeeming dish was the ceviche. I'm not sure what that says, to have a dish that contains tilapia as your one stand-out. To be fair, there is a sign in the dining room that states "if there is a problem, tell a manager and we will fix it", but for this, what was the solution? To run out and buy better food? To change seasoning protocols? A redo would have been a waste of their stock because it wasn't a matter of having served a fried item instead of a grilled one... Sure, fix that, but this is a bit deeper than that. I'm sorry, Flying Fish... I had such high hopes. The best that I can hope for is that supply chain and cost issues were the sole reason for a meal that could have been outdone by Captain D's. read more

My only complaint would be that parking lot is kind of small. Other than that the food and staff are great. We had the salmon tacos, grits and gumbo, jalapeño chips, and crispy calamari. I don't even know where to start... it's a big portion of everything that is good about Creole. The mixed po boy has everything you could ever want. (Sidenote- mine fell apart a bit but that didn't mean it wasn't amazing anyway!) I've only been here for lunch and the parking lot is usually pretty slammed. But I've never had to wait in line long, which is kinda weird. It's a big place, maybe that's it?! We visited this restaurant for my son's birthday. The restaurant was recommended to him by a friend. We are from Louisiana and have a high standard for seafood so our expectations were tempered. Even the low level of expectations was not met. The food had very little flavor, did not look authentic and appeared to be thrown together. The grilled catfish poor boy as they call it, was only lightly sautéed, no grill marks. By the way, if you have nut allergies the menu is very limited because they only use 100% peanut oil according to the signs. The staff were not friendly and acted like we were a bother to them. 3rd week. 2 bowels of gumbo that was to salty to eat. They used to have the best gumbo. Not any more.

This place has really gone down hill. We ordered 1/2 dozen oysters, fried catfish basket, cheeseburger basket, and kids chicken tenders. 1/2 dozen oysters never came. All of our food was served COLD. Cold French fries, cold hamburger meat, cold fried catfish. We asked for fresh fries, so instead of making us fresh ones, they dunked the already cooked fries back in the oil to heat them up, and gave them to us. I don't think so. They finally brought our oysters to us (after we were almost done eating, and after all of that silliness), so I asked them to take them off the ticket (1/2 dozen was $11-12) because I wasn't going to waste another penny on their food. The ONLY Good thing we ate was the hush puppies. Management should make sure their staff actually cares. I'm so tired of people blaming bad service on Covid. No excuse. It's 2022. I don't know why it took me so long to write a review for Flying Fish, it's one of my favorite spots in Ft. Worth. Pay at the counter, serve yourself drinks and condiments. I really enjoy spots like this. The decor is spunky and fun. Blues are always playing and there's plenty of room for large parties or cozy booths for couples. Parking lot is not as spacious. THEY HAVE FROG LEGS AND THEY ARE ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ON THE MENU. Seriously, do yourself a favor. They are fried though so they're a "sometimes" indulgence. It's worth mentioning that they do have a different batter than the rest of the fried seafood and it's obviously the better of the two. I'm not big on that cornmeal business. I almost always order the grilled salmon plate (ask them to make it snappy!) and have never been disappointed. I love the grilled summer squash and zucchini served alongside. There are just two downsides to this place but they are serious enough to give four stars. One, the hushpuppies are insanely minuscule. And they're the good kind too!! Two, though the oysters are just 75 cents on the half shell every Sunday they are not worth it. They detach the oyster from its shell god knows how long before they serve them to you and there's always at least one half oyster.
