I had the best little lunch here recently and wanted to share... who else loves a wedge salad? Walloon's has a fantastic wedge salad and it's even better with some grilled shrimp. And these shrimp are enormous! They're $3 each but worth it. Grilled perfectly and not fishy at all. I had my salad, shellfish, and a glass of white wine at the bar and enjoyed a long lunch. Have not been to Walloon's in a while. We opened the store at 11:00 today and were seated at a round table along the banquette on the northeast side facing the bar. A very nice table for enjoying this delightful bistro type venue here. Anne had, as usual, the amazing redfish dish and I the trout. Both today were cooked to absolute perfection. The broiled trout almandine was up there in the best ever stratosphere. Moist, flaky flesh, super crispy skin, perfect lemon and butter sauce. I've driven and walked by this place a couple of times without giving a second thought. With Fort Worth Burger Week, I'm grateful I found an excuse to come and visit - this was my third and final stop for this burgerful adventure. The burger that was being offered was the "Walloon's Burger". It doesn't seem to be a limited time offering like the other spots I visited this week. Though there's nothing wrong with that. I'd found out soon. The burger is simple. Thick beef patty with American cheese and a dijonnaise sauce with red onion on a toasted sesame seed bun. It may not sound as wild or unique at first compared to some of the other burgers offered by other restaurants, but the burger knocked my socks off. The beef patty was juicy and packed with flavor. A simple burger executed at a high level. It was filling and went incredibly well with the fries that I got with it. Although my order was a quick pick up, I do want to say that the inside of the restaurants is absolutely beautiful. It sets the mood well with just the right amount of lighting. I didn't know prior but this place is a refurbished bank. Apparently you could reserve to eat in one of the vaults. We celebrated my wife's birthday at Walloon's and had a fantastic dining experience. We had a party of 12 and our server took really good care of us. We started off with some appetizers- seafood mac n cheese, calamari, and oysters. I did not partake in the oysters this time but all my friends said they were good. The seafood mac n cheese was great; it was creamy and they didn't skimp on the amount of lobster and crab. It's listed as an entree and for me it would be on the smaller portion size, but for an appetizer it was great. The calamari was great. You could smell how fresh it was and the batter was light and crispy and perfectly seasoned. It was served with a spicy remoulade and some other kind of red cocktail sauce. A great starter! For my meal I had the lobster roll which was knock your socks off good. Good sized portions of lobster inside a homemade roll and that didn't fall apart as I attempted to get my mouth around it. I substituted fries for the chips and felt really good about that choice. My wife ordered the steak frites cooked medium and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. This place is an old bank building so it has a vault room that you can reserve for a party of 4. It has kind of the "old fashioned" vibe inside and their craft cocktail menu reflects that. Walloon's is a really beautiful restaurant that reminds me of the east coast where I grew up. The interior is really moody and beautiful, so I think it would be a great date night spot. We went for brunch and I was a little disappointed by the menu selection. There were not a ton of options, particularly for vegetarians or those who don't like seafood. I get that this is a seafood restaurant, but it would be nice to see a few more vegetarian options beyond pancakes. The french onion dip was my favorite thing I've eaten in a while! I'd go back just to get that again. The eggs and bacon brunch meal was not very good for the price. Everything was dry, so I wouldn't reorder that. Our server was really polite, but he did not check up on us often. Water refills were slow and we had to get up and ask for our waiter to be sent over with the check because he wasn't coming back and we had theatre tickets. We also enjoyed the happy house cocktails. My vodka based gin martini was refreshing and well made. The margarita was underwhelming in terms of flavor. Love the very tasty salmon based fish dip with sourdough bread (generous portions). The hamburger was moist and so delicious with a wonderful flavor. Walloon's is situated on the corner off a Magnolia business strip with parking in the garage nearby - validated by the restaurant if dining in! The location is very spacious and clean. The drinks were tasty! The crab dip was delicious but we had to order extra bread since it was a decent portion. I ordered the mussels which was also a good portion but it needed something else with the broth flavor (either additional herbs or seasoning). My friend's lobster mac & cheese was pretty flavorful and came out gooey (not clumsy and dry) and my other friend's salmon dish looked amazing (she said it was delicious too!) We tried this restaurant a couple of years ago and thought we should try it again. Doubt we will be back. I ordered the mussels in wine sauce with leek, which sounded yummy. They add creme fraiche to their sauce so maybe that was the problem, but the sauce did not taste good - it was sour tasting. I left 1/2 of the mussels uneaten. My partner had the lobster roll. The bread was just right but instead of the traditional celery and mayo, they added raw red onions which of course over-powered the delicate flavor of the lobster. Too bad. I immediately fell in love with the vintage charm of this restaurant and really loved that they decorated for the Halloween season. We started off with the crab cake and some deviled eggs, both were absolutely flavorful and delicious. The crab cake and deviled eggs were plated with a tasty salad that had pickled veggies. We also ordered a wedge salad and I honestly didn't know I could like a salad so much, but it tasted perfect. For my entree I had the Steak Frites and that was delicious! The steak was perfectly cooked, juicy and the fries were so good. My husband had ordered the red fish and was also delighted. The drinks were pretty good too. I had a some kind of purple spritz type drink and it was pretty good. To end the night we shared the apple bread pudding and it was absolutely amazing. What happens when you miss reading all of the Yelp reviews? You miss "espresso martini with peppered butterscotch whiskey". We did have the espresso martini, however, and it came with an awesome presentation of smoke bubble, and after we ordered ours, I think so did every other table in the restaurant! It was a great idea!! It's mardi gras season, and I was seeking redfish. Their was in a bouillabaisse served with two crostini's, and was out of this world! I could not recommend this highly enough. Generous enough to fill you, light enough that you aren't weighed down on date night. The wife had Moules Marinières which is a classic French dish where mussels are cooked in a broth of white wine, garlic, herbs, and butter. This is one of her favorite dishes, and this was 2nd only to a rainy afternoon in Ireland on our Honeymoon! They knocked this one out of the park! The seating is small and intimate. The waiter was attentive, suggestive, and excellent at his job. The entertainment of the evening was watching him serve a dozen or more of those espresso martini's, and always superbly navigating the air condition at the corner (he only lost one!) I had the Monday special of day of fish and chips and the four pieces were delicious. Wife had the chicken Caesar wrap and she said it was tasty. The attractive vintage-inspired space and well prepared food were overshadowed by the high prices and the poor service. $50 for a dozen oysters. $14 for 5 deviled egg halves. When taking our order our waitress said " do you want french fries, the chips just come from a bag." no mention of the up-charge. Make sure you ask how much anything is going to cost that isn't explicitly stated in the menu. They won't volunteer it. What really put a damper on the experience was the service. Our waitress asked us if we wanted drinks, and when we said no thanks, we just wanted dinner, it clearly upset her. She behaved inappropriately at every interaction. Loudly interrupting anytime she came by. She also brought by a to-go container before we were done eating (hint hint). At the end of the meal, she looked at me and asked "Are you the one paying?" Very odd. I still tipped well on the $200 bill (for 3 people), and when we left, we walked past her, and she didn't say goodbye or make eye contact with anybody in our party. I suppose that I could have been more vigilant in understanding the pricing, but as far as the service is concerned, a restaurant that is marketing itself as a sophisticated establishment should probably find servers that reflect that. read more

While it was lovely to catch up with my girlfriend and the company was absolutely wonderful, unfortunately the food and service at Walloon's were a disappointment. We were there for almost two hours because the service throughout the meal was so slow. To be fair, the beignets, which we ordered first, were actually very nice, but after that, things went rapidly downhill. My mimosa took about 20 minutes to arrive, and my friend's lemonade took nearly 30 minutes because it had been forgotten. We ordered the salmon salad. The bowls of salad arrived first, and we sat with them in front of us untouched for about 20 minutes before the salmon was brought out. The salad itself was simply a bowl of lettuce -- no tomatoes, croutons, or anything else to add flavor -- and the piece of salmon that eventually arrived was about 3" square total. A few bits of lettuce and a very small piece of salmon for $28 felt very underwhelming. The salad was completely bland and they brought us some extra dressing and salt and pepper to try to spice it up a bit, but really it did not help. It actually seemed like they were aware that this salad is bland. To their credit, the manager did remove the salad from the bill after we explained the situation. They also brought us a chocolate mousse with cream (which we paid for) because clearly, we were still hungry. The chocolate mousse was also underwhelming just plain chocolate mousse with a dab of cream on top. No imagination foodwise at this restaurant at all. We left the waitress almost a 30% tip because we know wait staff depend on them, NOT because of the service. The restaurant has great reviews, so not sure what happened on this visit!!!!! In the end, the highlight of the lunch was definitely the chance to spend time with my friend. Sadly, the food and service just didn't live up to expectations -- we ended up stopping for a slice of pizza on the way home. I made reservations at Walloon's to celebrate my mom's 65th birthday and my sister-in-law's 35th birthday. Carrie provided a wonderful dining experience. She went above and beyond -- writing birthday cards, lighting candles in the bread pudding, and truly making the evening feel special. We were so appreciative of the effort she put into celebrating our family. Unfortunately, shortly after dining, my entire family became violently ill with food poisoning symptoms. It has now been over 12 hours and we are all still extremely sick and have missed a full day of work. I called as soon as the restaurant opened and spoke with a manager who told me they would call back. We never received a return call. For a nearly $500 bill and an entire family sick with no follow-up or resolution, the lack of customer service has been incredibly disappointing. While our server was exceptional, the aftermath and complete absence of response from management has left me extremely dissatisfied. Sadly, I cannot recommend dining here based on this experience. read more

Had a hometown friend come to visit, and they wanted to try this place. We arrived on a Saturday - brunch time. It seemed pretty empty when we arrived so I think it may have been right as it was opening. I tried the french toast and it was the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The rest of the table had the Crispy Calamari Salad, Blackened Shrimp Caesar, and the Lobster Roll - and I will say that the table was relatively silent as people dug in! We topped it off with drinks all around - margaritas, paloma's and I believe a alcohol-free beer. Our waiter was very friendly, lively even, and seemed excited to talk about what the place had to offer, so that made us excited to try things out. Overall a great experience and I will definitely be back to try other parts of the menu. read more
