I had seen Toro toro as a recommendation off a local foodie page. I figured I try it out due to the raving reviews. It was about a 40 minute drive and your heading to downton Fort Worth. It seemed like an elevated resturant you'd like to celebrate a special meal with loved ones. They do offer a happy hour so we were able to save a dollar or so but for the most part the menu is pricey. My rating is based off sides. I'm not bothered by spending more money or purchasing a side separately however, when it's not cooked well or missing ingredients it makes the meal a little disconnected. This may be due to expecting more from a "nicer" place but the truth is it will always come down to quality and this it was lacking this evening. I can confidently say this was the best brunch of my life! Brunch is a four course meal where you only select your entree (the third course). Your tastebuds will be delighted with every course, plus you have so many dishes to taste, but you have to pace yourself and only sample items along the way so you can get to the fourth and final dessert course. Came here to celebrate a successful weekend. My wagyu picanha was cooked to the medium rare temp I had requested and was seasoned perfectly. The guacamole was good but not the best I've had. The truffle fries were decent but didn't blow me away. The spectacle of the la bomba dessert was fun while the dessert itself was yummy. Checking in was a little more confusing as there was a huge wedding cocktail hour occurring and the host's stand was hidden behind the crowds. Our server Jose was not very good, we order the Toro Toro Churrasco but he failed to ask us how we wanted our meat cooked and he had our meat rare which we never get. We tried the meat anyways but we didn't not like it. At this point we just wanted to leave ASAP. Overall the restaurant wasn't worth the price. The food tasted good (too many hot peppers, not enough nuance to the flavors) but the portions were too small in comparison to the PR photos online. The slices of bison in the appetizer were almost microscopic compared to the online photos and the short rib was dry with the condiments tossed in bowls and not placed decoratively on the plate. We asked for water and never received any. Our server was professional, but not attentive enough for the prices. The decor was not cohesive and the space was very loud. It didn't seem to have a real theme other than western, but with a sushi style bar in the middle to watch people cook over a smoky grill. That makes no sense and no one was sitting at the bar to watch them cook on a Saturday night when the place was packed and we had to wait 20 minutes even though we had a reservation. I suspect that would have been a hot/noisy place to eat. We were seated along the wall in two of the "high chair" type tables. Those were obviously designed by a man without thought to female patrons. I was wearing backless mule shoes and spent the whole night hoping my shoe didn't fall off causing me to have to go under the table fishing for it. Given it the restaurant was supposed to have fusion theme, there was only one obvious dish on the menu that qualified. Also in the PR photos the guest is eating with chopsticks. We weren't offered any chopsticks, only forks and knives. Finally, it was our anniversary and I let them know ahead of time. Most high end restaurants offer a complimentary happy anniversary dessert to mark the occasion. Other than the hostess wishing us a happy anniversary, we got nothing. For the prices, they could spare a slice of cake with a swirl of icing. In the end, it felt like Toro Toro was skating on reputation and not real effort. Really beautiful atmosphere here at Toro Toro. I always feel kind of fancy being in downtown Fort Worth walking into the iconic Renaissance Hotel, but the experience can also be casual. I last came for lunch and sat at the bar, my favorite place to sit. My party ordered the tomato burrata salad (I don't believe it's on the menu anymore but it was lovely), blackened tuna tacos, shrimp cocktail aguachile, and a cubano with fries. And of course a couple glasses of wine and an old fashioned or two. The prices are up there but you're paying for the whole experience, the pretty bar, the pretty cocktail glasses, the fresh seafood. My favorite dish was the aguachile: cooked shrimp, aguachile rojo, horseradish, cilantro oil, and avocado. It was really spicy and fresh and had great texture. My blackened tuna tacos were excellent as well, we loved the poblano tartar and tangy vinaigrette. Each taco was about 2-3 small bites. Small but memorable! Toro Toro is known for their churrasco, so I need an occasion to come back for dinner. For $145 you get Brazilian-style wagyu picanha steak, rib eye, bbq chicken thigh, and colorado lamb chops (served with chimichurri, salsa matcha, and grilled shishito peppers). The skin on the salmon was crispy and the whole dish was tasty. The Churros were delicious. i like how they used chocolate pop-rocks for additional texture. The dress code is interesting. We saw people dressed up, but we also saw people dining here with tshirts and sandals. One thing to note was the service.
