It's been a while since we've dined at the downtown Ft. Worth location of Mi Cocina. We had a performance at the Bass Hall this evening and wanted to grab a bite to eat before hand. When we arrived, the restaurant was hopping and busy. Fortunately, we were able to be seated immediately. Tanya, our server for the evening, interdicted herself to us. She asked a critical question, "were we headed to the Bass Hall this evening?" We told her yes and she said she'd let the kitchen expeditor know So our orders would get to our table as fast as possible. I the Luann platter, which had a a cheese enchilada, a cheese taco, crispy taco, guacamole chalupa,, plus rice and refried beans. That's a lot of food. My wife, who wasn't too hungry, was going to eat the crispy beef taco and half of the guacamole chalupa. I ordered a Mambo TaxI to drink. I love their little frozen margarita. We all sat and ate WAY too many chips dipped in Mi Cocina's awesome hot sauce while also having wonderful conversations. Tanya showed up shortly with our table's entrees. Without wasting time, we dug into our our individual entrees. My platter was really good and served piping hot. We asked Tanya to bring our check so we could head over to the Bass Hall for our evening's performance. My family & I had a great lunch at Mi Cocina! This was a favorite restaurant of mine & my husband's when we lived in the DFW area. We were in town & decided to come back for the first time in years. We'd never been to this location before and it did not disappoint! They have a great lunch menu with a lot of options! Loved their chips & salsa. Wish I would've ordered the queso! I had Mama's tacos for lunch. The menu says they come with chicken, but the waitress gave me the option for beef so I took it. It came with rice and avocado salad. My brother ordered a combo plate and got his enchiladas with sour cream sauce. Sour cream sauce is my favorite and it's so hard to find a restaurant that does it right. He let me try some & it was perfection! Would definitely come back to this location if I was in the area again, especially during lunch time. read more

Walked here from the hotel. It's in a good location for downtown. They sat me immediately on a weeknight. Place was starting to fill up for dinner. It's a nice place. The have a full bar if you are by yourself and/or want to socialize. I quickly ordered the famous brisket tacos. They came out pretty quickly. Very very flavorful. Definitely lived up to the hype. Good portions. 3 were plenty. The tacos come with an Avocado salad. Believe it or not, this was my first Avocado salad. The dressing was great. Yummy. read more

The hostess which was also my waitress asked me what I wanted there instead of welcoming me and seating me. Then the service was slow. I had to ask for a water refill twice. I have been disappointed with other Mi Cocina locations in the past, but this one was much much better. We went with a group before a show at Bass Hall. We go to lots of shows there and were tired of some of our regular restaurants downtown, so gave this a try. Lots of different things ordered by our group, so I will only comment on what my wife and I ordered. Starting with drinks. I had a spicy Mambo margarita, which is their excellent house margarita spiced up with jalapeños. Plenty of jalapeño chunks floating in it, but they did not overpower at all. Excellent flavor and I would call it on the strong side. My wife had the lemon drop martini, which looked excellent and she said had great flavor as well. The chips and salsa were quite good. I prefer a thinner and crisper chip than these, but they were okay because the salsa was excellent. Good kick and flavor. For my main I had Tacos De Redfish. They were plentiful and had perfect flavor and texture. Tortilla was fresh and held up well. My wife, the flauta expert, had the flautas de pollo. They were crisp and not greasy, which is hard to do. Well filled with the chicken. A decent size portion. Where the restaurant fell a bit is in service. After drinks were ordered, mine came within a minute. The rest of the table did not see theirs for a good 15 minutes. And then the food delivery itself was a bit of a circus with just about every item delivered to the wrong person. It made me nervous that the checks would be wrong because of the confusion, but they were all accurate. We will try them again. They must be popular because it was packed this Saturday early dinner time. read more

My Ernie's Chicken was delicious! The chicken was coated with a sour cream sauce and there was plenty of guacamole and fresh salsa. The atmosphere was very appealing with natural colors and surfaces. We came in during the recent storm. we were staying in a nearby hotel and it was one of the only restaurants open. When we arrived at 4 pm we were the second couple in the restaurant. Our waitress Rosa sat us in a booth/chair table but it was wobbly so we moved to the next table. We were happy that the table was in eyesight of the Texas game we could see on the TV at the bar. Rosa got our drink order and we ordered Ceviche ans a half order of nachos Locos beef. The food arrived quickly, but we did have to wait a minute or two to get our water refilled. The cocktails and the Chips and salsa were solid, the tortilla soup was just "ok", but where I feel they really dropped the ball was on the beef fajitas. The beef had ZERO fajita seasoning, it was just a piece of bland meat that was lost with the other accouterments of pico de gallo and aguacate. The cooks are obviously NOT keeping up with the recipe script. Corporate should really do an inspection here. read more

Came here to have dinner with a friend I always enjoy Mi Cocina but I always struggle with what I should order that being said. I've never been disappointed with what I've ordered so I guess that's saying something. The ambience is modern and stylish interior although it's a little loud for my taste. I dined at Mi Cocina on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 at 7 pm. I came with a large group of about 16 people and they were able to accommodate us after a reservation was made in advance. The restaurant was very busy, but I did not experience any issues with the service. With a large group, I was surprised with how attentive my server was with refilling waters, and taking orders. Everyone's dish came out nearly the same time. I had the Mama's Chicken con Hongos. This was a pretty big portion. The chicken was a flavorful, but a little bit dry. I enjoyed the large mushrooms that came with this dish. I also got to sample the ceviche, which tasted fresh and balanced. Overall, I had a nice experience at Mi Cocina even though it was a little tight. The service was exceptional and the food was decent. read more

We had tickets for a play at Bass Hall and walked over to Mi Cocina for dinner. We got that about 6:15 and the place was almost full. Not sure if they do reservations, but during the dinner hours even on a week night they are packed! The food was excellent... no issues there. The server was fun and friendly. Very attentive, but not a annoyance. The place is pretty loud... just because it is packed. Next visit we are going out on the patio. Patio looked very inviting. We will surely be back. read more

This place was OK. Nothing made it stand out as far as Mexican Food in downtown Fort Worth. The service was great and they handle our large party well but it was just meh on the food. I had ordered a Rico Salad and it was ok. The one issue I had was when they told me what salad dressings they had a jalapeño ranch, spicy something else ranch and blue cheese. I asked for blue cheese because I can't do spicy. I get the salad and my dressing and pour the dressing on my salad. The dressing was so hot. I was wondering what those green things were in the dressing and it was jalapeños. I told my server I asked for blue cheese and she said that is the blue cheese.... Spicy blue cheese.... I said you didn't tell me that before.. I can't eat jalapeños. She brought me a new one rather quickly but I would have appreciated the spicy heads up when choosing the blue cheese. Stopped by Mi Cocina for a quick lunch, and it seems to be quite a popular lunch spot! I ordered the tacos habana lunch (comes with 2 tacos), a side of guacamole, and the chicken & rice soup. I love how they provide every table with chips & salsa - the salsa is delicious, and the chips are still nice and warm. The chicken & rice soup came piping hot and was prob my fave of the 2. It was really flavorful, well portioned, and tasty! The tacos habana were good, but I've definitely had better. I opted for the corn tortilla upon a recommendation from the staff but the tortilla was so hard in some places it was almost inedible. The chicken was decent - flavors were good and not dry. The arroz verde and the salad were nothing to write home about though. Service was kind and fast. Really appreciate how the check is payable via phone, which allows you to get in and out quickly. read more

Sitting at the bar is always a great experience here. Angel does an excellent job behind the bar -- attentive, friendly, and consistent. The food is reliably on point as well. That said, I've noticed a couple of process hiccups lately, both front and back of house. First, when I walk past the hostess stand and mention I'm sitting at the bar, it would be helpful if the automatic follow-up was, "Would you like a menu?" Small touch, but it sets the tone. Second, sides seem to lag behind entrées. If I order a hot meal and request something simple like sour cream, the expectation is that it arrives before the meal cools down. Timing matters, especially for small add-ons that complete the dish. Overall, still a solid spot, just a few operational tweaks would elevate the experience even more. read more

Our server was really grouchy and he neglected refilling our water for an extended amount of time. He deceived my daughter about a drink, and tried to charge us extra for the kids drink without telling us because she was 13 and not 12. He did not tell us that CHEESE did not come with the fajitas (which in my opinion should come with it), and the kids meals were literally 10 dollars. On top of that, the beans were gross and the rice was overwhelmingly mediocre. As someone who is normally positive and tries to see the good in things, this place did not meet my expectations. They close at 9pm now on Sundays even though Yelp still says 10pm but I know that's up to the manager/owner to fix so no big deal. Every single Mi Cocina location always does such a great job, both in food and service. They have the lighting down perfectly so it's a perfect date night spot in my opinion. Their Mambo Taxi's are so good but so strong so drink responsibly. They usually limit them to 2 per person. My top three favorites are their Sunset Fajitas, nachos and tortilla soup which I like to add Tabasco to. Yum! No matter what location you choose, you won't be disappointed. Only reason it's 4 and not 5 stars is just a minor thing that doesn't need to be mentioned. read more
