Juiciest fried chicken I've EVER HAD!! It was soooo good! We had a fried chicken breast, fried pork chop, okra, cornbread, and greens. My only negative: parking lot is small (as in people don't know how to drive and our car accidentally got hit by someone trying to turn around) so park on the street and don't risk it! My only less than stellar thoughts: the cornbread was dry, wish it wasn't, and I would've liked the greens to have more flavor from the meat it's cooked in. We will definitely be back! When you walk into Drew's, you'll notice that the restaurant is small and the decor feel original. There isn't a singular thing that feels fancy or inauthentic. Quite frankly I don't think they care what the place looks like on the inside... and neither do I. It feels like you just walked into Drew's living room and he's about to slap yo momma with a flavor that would make a Cajun say, "owwwweeeeeeeee! Das sum goooood chick-un!" And it is. The skin is crispy, the meat itself is tender, and the spices mixture is clearly unique. The candied yams should be sent to all foreign enemies of state as they would likely usher in world peace. Sweet tea is balanced and refreshing. (And you can help yourself to a second refill if you're kind enough to your server.) But what, what is the best thing about Drew's? It's one of the few places left that feels real. Drew is in the back, cooking up chicken, like he always has since 1982 (or something like that). And as a nice bonus they have cherry kool aid slushes!! Krystal was my server and she was very attentive and didn't mind helping me pick her favorites from the menu. The entire meal including two plates, a large drink, pint of collards, half dozen extra cornbread AND a delicious piece of italian cream cake were around $50. I tipped well for the great service. Order pick up on 11/15/25, the food was delicious. The fried chicken was hot and juicy, smothered porkchops were so tender and the right amount of seasoning, whole catfish was good also. But the coconut cake was "fire", OMG !!! That slice of cake was well worth the 5.99, just wish I would have had 2 slices. As much I wanted to give a lower rating based on the service today, I'll be fair. The Chicken which is the highlight of this place was delicious. I had the greens and Mac for my sides and they were ok but I've definitely had better. The corn bread was also not it for me. As with any popular restaurant that is short staffed , the service can go downhill pretty quick. It took almost 45 minutes to receive food for a party of four during lunch hour while other parties who were seated after us received their food faster. Let me start by saying, I have been by this place a few times and they were always closed. Today was my lucky day. I ordered a small plate of chicken, fried of course, collard greens and Mac & cheese. The food came out, hot and smelling good. If y'all had smell-a-review, you 'd know what I was saying, lol. Every bite was good. So, good most people would say you could slap your mama (however, I would not say that since my mom is still on this earth and she'd slap me back ). The crunch on the chicken was so loud, you could hear it all over Fort Worth. Everything is served in Styrofoam, which is a plus because it's an easy carry out. One slight detractor, a little too much salt. Just drink plenty of water so your ankles won't be swollen. I noticed everybody was getting the sweet potatoes. That will be my next venture. Drew's place has been on my radar screen for some time now. For the last couple of weeks I've had a craving for fried chicken. I decided to indulge myself today and to haveit at Drew's. Wow. I like KFC, both original and crispy; Golden Chick; Popeyes; Babe's (just been once prolly 20 plus years ago); and Gus', etc. I guess it's obvious that I love fried yard bird (though honestly I eat it very infrequently). But this at Drew's is truly remarkable. And the prices are terrific. But it doesn't end there. I ordered the collard greens and the b.ack eyed peas. Both were absolutely delicious. I mean really good. Seasoned just right and cooked just right. So good. This is a wonderfully comfortable little neighborhood cafe. It sits on a residential corner with houses all around. I wonder if it was something before it was Drew's. I suspect not a restaurant. Dunno. It is a kinda crowded dining room that is very pleasant and welcoming. But when cold I could appreciate the flavors from a different perspective. The seasoning at Drew's is, IMHO, eggzaktly what fried chicken seasoning oughta be. Perfect balance of flavor and pepper heat. I can still ratnow feel some heat on my lips, but here's the deal. The pepper compliments the seasonings and chicken but does not obliterate the flavor with nuclear reactor levels of heat like the currently (for some unknown reason) popular hot chicken restaurants. I've had several of those hot chicks and just don't get it. Why not just suck down a couple tablespoons of Carolina Reaper sauce and some nice crispy kale and save yourself eating all those calories which truth be told few of us need. This is the place to go for good soul food. Catfish had a light breading with spicy seasoning. The fish was flaky and delicious. Didn't even need the sauce. Chicken was perfecting fried it was moist and the breading was crispy. Added some hot sauce and it was perfect. Yams were sweet and tasted more like a dessert than a side. Mac and cheese was creamy and melts in your mouth. Also ordered the peach cobbler with ice cream. The warmth of the cobbler paired perfectly with the cold ice cream. Ordered it with two scoops of ice cream to share. This was a perfect way to end a great lunch. Left here full and happy! Best soul food in Fort Worth! Only warning is that the parking lot is very small. So street parking is the most likely option. Well worth the short walk. I also recommend skipping on the cornbread. Soul Good Southern Comfort! My wife and I have been dining here for almost 7 years. We've tried every entree and side on the small menu over those years. Since the tiny dining room is currently closed, it's pick-up only. On our most recent visit I got the large fried chicken, legs and thighs only with black-eyed peas, mashed spuds and a pint of cream gravy. Wife got the small smothered chops with double mashed and a half pint of smothered gravy. The proteins were very good, and sides are still served "season to your taste" style.
