Visiting Fort Worth for the weekend so had to stop by. It's always great trying new places in another city. Service was impeccable, impressive and down right excellent. The General Manager was friendly and knowledgeable. The other staff were polite and helpful. It was a warm welcome to the establishment. I had multiple requests and they were all taken care of. Ambiance was good no complaints. Dining room was clean and comfortable. I like that they offer booths and tables for seating. The decor is simple with chicken art. The vibe is laid back and gives a little bit of country down to earth feel. Mimosas were definitely full of champagne! Chicken sandwich was moist and juicy. I like the slaw and pickles that come on it. I chose medium heat, but next time I want it a bit more spicy. I wanted sweet heat sauce on it. I think there was a slight misunderstanding with that. The sauce that comes on it doesn't have a kick. Quick fix they brought me a side of it. Once I poured that SWEET HEAT SAICE on my chicken sandwich it was magical. My mouth was happy and excited. The chicken was so moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. They make you sign a waiver for the AMF level spice which is the hottest they have. If you can eat those buldak 2 times spicy noodles you will be perfectly fine as these are not as spicy as that in my opinion. Absolutely delicious flavor being as spicy as they are because most places that try to serve a "really spicy level" end up tasting like chemicals or just have a weird aftertaste. My wife opted for 2 tender platter with fries. She decided on the "mild" seasoning. I decided on the Ribs and Chicken Combo. 1/4 rack of ribs and two tenders. I decided to be bold and chose the "Texas Hot" seasoning. After a short wait, our food was ready. WOW, some of the best tenders and ribs I've ever tasted. The tenders are cooked to order and served piping hot. The ribs were phenomenal, fall of the bone. My wife loved her tenders, she had a very happy tummy. The fries were fried to perfection and seasoned perfectly. Let's get on to the seasoning. My wife loved the 'mild' seasoning level of spice. Let's talk about the seasoning level I chose, "Texas Hot." OMG, I should have ordered 'medium" because the "Texas Hot" was definitely TEXAS HOT! I went through a lot of iced tea. The seasoning was on the tenders as well the ribs. Our Favorite chicken sandwich place. We have driven an hour on many occasions just for a sandwich. Massive breaded breast sandwiches. Choose your heat, 5 levels (the Texas Heat made me cry..lol). Choose your sauce, 6 choices (my favorite is sweet heat). The breading is super crispy. Served on a bun with cole slaw. Other choices are tenders both breaded and grilled, ribs or chicken and waffles. Food is delivered to your table. Everytime we've been there the chef has come out to make sure everything is ok (I love that about this place). I've never seen or heard of this place before but, my friends from Church were going here so, I got to join them. The Cook Shack really impressed me with their Chicken Strips. Let's go with this review. There was a lot to see as I normally do. Lol It was Sunday, like around 12:30. The Cook Shack offered a small narrow parking lot, on both sides of the building. All spaces were taken except two. It was crowded enough to watch some one leave so, you can get their parking spot. There was a parking spot but, it looked to narrow so, I passed on it. I found another spot under the shade but had a difficult time backing out. Walked in and a lot of the tables were taken. There was a large table in the center that was perfect for the overflow crowd. The crowd consisted of after Church Goeers. I wasn't sure where to order or where the line was. Turns out you can order food at the bar too. Service seemed to be quick. I must have brought my patience and I was in good company because, there were lots of orders going by before my order was brought to me. It seemed to be pricey but, The Cook Shack offers a lunch special consisting of a drink, two Chicken Strips, a side, and a piece of bread for $9 99. This has been on my list to try for a very long time. We finally stopped by here with some friends. Service is great. Everyone is very nice. Our food was a hit and miss. The tenders were just okay. The chx sandwich was better. Very heavy thick batter on all. It is very crunchy but a small piece of meat inside and some bites, only batter. I got the medium heat which was good and a side and sweet spicy (not good). Our friend got the shack salad, the champagne vinaigrette dressing is tasty and it comes with avocado which was great... but the chicken was terrible. We all took a bite and it is sooo dry. We had not been to Cookshack for some time and decided to return. The employees were friendly and the chicken tenders were crispy and tender. Upon paying, the computer defaulted to an amount for a tip that we had not chosen. We determine the amount we tip; the employee had to go to the back of the store to make the adjustment, and this created a long delay. The sign for water at the soft drink station is about one half inch long and very difficult to find. The french fries were not hot and tasted as if they had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while. One container of sauce was not enough for the serving of tenders. The tabletop tent advertising the QR code was dirty, and this causes a customer to be concerned about general cleanliness of the restaurant. It's not likely that we will return. read more

When we got back to our Airbnb, i was kinda pissed when i saw the "dragon" fries. They looked like regular fries, but when i ate them, i knew why they called it dragon fries, they have a slight spicy kick to them. The chicken sandwich came with 1 coleslaw, but i think we ordered another one. I'm so dumb, as i ate it all by itself. I should have put it into the sandwich to add more flavor. Cookshack, your lack of consistency is frustrating. I ordered the 5 tenders with dragon fries and medium spice level, and this time there was minimal seasoning if any on both the fries and tenders. The dragon fries in the past have been hit or miss on the amount of seasoning you get, so I wasn't surprised at that, but the chicken tenders weren't spicy at all. As you can see in the photos, the chicken pieces are light colored with none of the spicy red goodness the seasoning provides (compare to prior photos with lots of seasoning). Also, it would be nice if they included an extra sauce with the 5 piece chicken meal as only one is included regardless of if you're ordering 2, 3, or 5 tenders. It doesn't make a ton of sense to me that you'd still give the same amount of sauce even if someone ordered double the meat. For now, this restaurant will still get 4 stars from me because their chicken pieces at least have been hot (temperature wise), fresh, and a good size, but there's definitely things they could work on. read more

The food here is amazing. I get the spicy grilled chicken sandwich every time. It's the most tender chicken sandwich I've had in this area of town. The sauce is perfect and with the coleslaw, it's absolutely banging. If I had to make one improvement, it would be the fries are rather dry. I equate it to the Popeyes biscuit of the fry world. Ok so I've driven by this place a million times in my way to lunch and never even considered it for some reason but a couple weeks ago I finally went for it! First of all this is another place with a challenging parking lot especially when it's busy at lunch time cause it's small. Interesting lay out inside you walk up and order at the counter and right behind you is a small bar set up where they serve beer, it's not a big place but didn't have any trouble finding a table. The main attraction here is their hot chicken tenders that can be ordered at different heat levels, they also have a few sides and to my surprise pork spare ribs. I decided to try the ribs and tenders plate that comes with a half rack of ribs and 2 jumbo chicken tenders and a side for $16 good deal! I ordered the chicken at medium heat level and then much to my surprise again the guy asked me what heat level I wanted on the ribs??? I said oh wow ok medium also and let me tell you these ribs were tender and delicious , the chicken was flavorful and juicy as well. This has become my favorite chicken restaurant. They also offer some other types of food like chicken + waffles, ribs, different types of salads etc. I've tried a couple of different dishes, their chicken sandwich is incredible! The best chicken sandwich I remember having anywhere. Perfect juiciness and flavor. They also have a sliding spice scale from NO heat to probably about 80,000 on the Scoville Scale. I like fairly spicy and for me the medium heat is just enough. I also like their chicken tender + pork ribs combo. Unless you tell them otherwise you will get same heat on the ribs which is fine with me. If you don't get any heat you get a bbq sauce on the ribs instead. They have a fair number of sides you can choose from, I really like their kale salad as side dish and goes well with both dishes I've tried. You don't know how well a place treats their customers until there's a mishap. There was a really small mishap at one visit but they went above and beyond to take care of us and make sure we were happy with the outcome. I highly recommend this place, we got out of our way to go here when we are anywhere close to Fort Worth. It's quite affordable to eat here too! read more

I ended up getting the half slab of ribs with 2 tenders and a side of the sweet potato fries (recommended to me) and a side of ranch since she said it's all made in-house. YAY! Well the tenders were pretty good. Not much to complain about here. Not the best tenders I've had (others I've had more meat) but these will do. I will tell you the Texas Hot is really effin' hot. Wow. So be careful. The ranch dipping sauce was spot-on. I like the peppery kick it had, these were the highlights. The ribs were meh. They fell off the bone but they were overcooked and dry. I think they slathered on bbq sauce (which is fine) and add the Texas Hot seasoning on top of the sauce to make it TX Hot. But I only ate 1 rib because it did not taste that great, it was dry, I nearly asked for a new half slab (I should have) but I wasn't feeling it. The sweet potato fries were waffle cut but they were greasy. Tasted ok, not the best, but they were greasy and I couldn't finish them. So all in all it was a 2-star experience that could have been much better. Spending $20 here to have such a let-down was a downer for me. Maybe caught them on a bad day but you don't serve overcooked dry ribs, people. You just don't do that. read more

Where GREAT Chicken meets GREAT Service!! What a cozy place with great food. Had the pleasure of celebrating my nephews birthday at his favorite chicken spot, The Cookshack. Not only did they have a table big enough to fit 11 people (Thank you for that), but the service was great!! Now let's talk food: The AMF is so spicy you have to sign a waiver so you better be careful. lol The chicken sandwich had great flavor, the margaritas were very refreshing, and I sure did love the ranch dressing & fries. The Kale salad with fried chicken tenders added was delightful. The only reason I cant give this place 5 stars is because the shack salad with grilled chicken comes with what appeared to be sandwich meat chicken on it. I had my mouth ready for a grilled chicken tender and it was definitely not that. This place has such great chicken, I am not sure why they would want to ruin the salad by adding deli meat chicken slice instead of the real deal chicken tender just grilled not fried. I have to believe either we went on an off day, or people writing these reviews have never had decent fried chicken strips and ribs in their life. The "Hog Heaven" special is supposedly "off the bone" rib on top of cole slaw and french fries. What I received yesterday was a small portion of room temp chopped pork slopped on top of a small pile of coleslaw and fries. If this is how its typically served, they ought to change the menu item to read "chopped pork" instead of "off the bone ribs". To make matters worse, the rib meat was so over cooked, that I got at least 2-3 pieces of hardened/caramelized rib that nearly split my teeth. Along with that, 2 pieces of tiny bone, and a nice big chunk of untrimmed fat mixed in. My kiddo got the tenders. These were some of the worst chicken tenders I have ever had. I can't imagine how in the world this would pass the test in DFW of all places, where we are surrounded by some great chicken tenders. Even chains like Raising Canes and Golden Chick outplay these by a mile. The batter is generic peppery flour batter, similar to what you might find in a high school cafeteria or box of frozen tenders. Hard in some parts, and semi crispy in others. This was the no-heat option of their batter. I can assume getting it hotter ads more flavor or disguises the lack thereof. The chicken inside was of a baked/rubbery consistency, and 100% flavorless. Marinating your chicken meat is a basic step #1 for any chicken tender recipe, and I can almost promise you that these had never been marinated or perhaps even seasoned prior to going in the batter. This was the final nail in the coffin for us as far as this place having any sort of redemption in our minds, and we decided to go finish dinner somewhere else. The fries were half decent, because they have a great seasoning they add to them. Other than that they weren't anything super special, but in comparison to the boring main courses, they stood out exceptionally well. Service was friendly and quick, but everything was room temp/luke warm when it hit our table; save for the chicken tenders. The "Shack Sauce" is basically Raising Cane's sauce, if you have ever had that. And they nailed it - its really similar and really tasty. The BBQ sauce is way too sweet for a "Texas" BBQ sauce, and nothing special at all. Chik-Fil-A and McDonalds BBQ sauce is better. Its somewhat unforgiveable that their BBQ sauce wasn't up to snuff, because they are based in a city that has plenty of insanely awesome local options to team up with. Back to some of the other reviews, of people saying stuff like "the chicken at this place is on point", I have no clue. They cannot be serious? Or the kitchen staff has changed in the last few months. I am not a picky eater, I promise you. Especially when it comes to tenders. I am happy settling with a bag of Kirkwood strips if the sauce is good! But this chicken was a flavorless, unmarinated rubbery mess that no sauce could ever hope to enhance well enough for an enjoyable dinner. read more
