I don't get why this is so popular? It's really not my thing. The food(mostly breaded and fried) has that heavy, oily taste. Even the fries don't taste great to me. I tried the "lobster " roll today. Looks like an authentic Cajun backwoods country place despite being located at a major intersection in central Fort Worth, but the food is a bit unusual. The jambalaya has bits of sausage, not andouille as far as I could tell, and a little shredded chicken, mixed with celery and lots of okra. Okra, in jambalaya? Not in any Louisiana versions I ever had. The whole on top of, not cooked with, rice, also not how they do it in Louisiana. Pretty tasty, if you like okra. You could get it with two fillets of fried catfish on top, so I did, Thin fillets, dry and crunchy coating with moist interior. Rather good. We ordered two blackened red snapper platters. Unfortunately, what we were served was grilled fish with a heavy amount of blackening seasoning sprinkled on top after it was cooked. It looked like the fish had been grilled first, plated, and then dusted with seasoning. That is not what I expect when ordering blackened fish. We took it back to the counter, and the employee immediately understood what I meant. I explained that blackened seasoning should be applied before cooking so it forms the flavorful crust during the grilling process--not sprinkled on afterward like a dry rub on chicken wings. The fish was remade, but unfortunately it still wasn't much better. I've ordered this same dish here several times in the past, and it has always been excellent. This experience was very different, which makes me wonder if there are new cooks who haven't been properly trained in preparing blackened fish. I ordered the pound of snow crabs, barbecue shrimp plate, Alligator nuggets, and shrimp and fish basket. The barbecue shrimp were pretty good. The alligator nuggets were good as well. The shrimp and fish basket - not so much, but I think it is more geared towards your taste. My husband and I went for an early dinner. We walked in and immediately went to the counter and ordered our food and drinks. You get a buzzer to take to your table and it alerts you when your food is ready to be picked up. Everyone was pleasant and efficient. I ordered the whole fried tilapia and my husband got the catfish and shrimp basket. The fish was cooked perfectly, crunchy outside but still moist inside. Both were very good. This is pretty much the most authentic gulf coast seafood this far from the water, swamps even. Good stuff. The baitshop decor is a good, hones, not-overblown touch. If there's one complaint, it's the parking. It's completely under-sized and it's a "good luck" situation. We nearly always are parked on the next street, curbside. There's lots of empty parking around, but posted for the other restaurants and I'm not taking chances. But I sure wish FF would strike up a deal to share one. It was a huge success, Serving, fresh fish, cold beer, and all the accouterments in a fun southeast Texas-styled fish camp atmosphere. I was hooked the first time I walked in. Id known it was here for a couple of years but never stopped in because my favorite BBQ place in town is literally right across the street. Entering the place you are immediately overwhelmed by the decor. Everything in the place is authentic vintage, fishing associated paraphernalia, ephemera and memorabilia. It is counter-order service, with a generous and straightforward overhead menu. The selections run the gamut of what you would expect to eat at any good seafood establishment on the gulf coast. Several types of fish including,grouper,mahi,snapper and catfish. Ceviche,gumbo,oysters and the list goes on. The fried selection is knock your socks off good but Im not doing fried right now. So I opted for the grilled snapper and was happy. It was accompanied by grilled yellow squash and zucchini plus rice and beans. Delicious. My fried shrimp was the hardest, worst shrimp I've ever eaten and was mostly breading. The catfish was overcooked and the fries had no flavor. Absolutely won't be back.
