I normally only go to restaurants once unless it's an all-time favorite, but Fishing with Dynamite definitely deserves that status. Came here with a last-minute reservation on a Monday night and every single dish was perfect.

The food here is top notch. Make reservations ahead of time as they do get busy. This establishment doesn't have much seating but the servers have everything down to get you in and out as quick as possible while enjoying your time. Our server was the perfect match for our date, personal and patient. Everything was amazing and would definitely come back. The Key Lime pie is the best part, not too tart or sweet. Enough for at least 2 people.

The food, incredible! Uni available on weekends, it was incredible. Terrific oyster selection, also had raw scallops available, all were delicious. The fish sandwich was delicious with a homemade gribiche (a tartar sauce upgrade). The rice dish was otherworldly, creamy like a risotto with crab, shrimp, etc. the desserts were delicious, too. It's a small friendly venue with outdoor seating, a good bar selection and super friendly service. Will go again when back in Manhattan Beach.

Love love loved my experience here. It's a delicious oyster spot right by the water that has seasonal and rotational oysters. We got 3 different types of oysters, but our favorite was the Love Shuck. They had live Uni that day, which was ok... I'm spoiled from having gone to school at UCSB and having fresh Uni pretty much on deck. We got Crab Cakes, Koshihikari Rice (which is similar to a risotto), and the Grilled Hamachi Collar which was a seasonal special and so good... The food was amazing, and the price was appropriate for what we ordered (we had 3 people with all the food and drinks and it was around $330 give or take). I thought the staff were super attentive and friendly, the location was superb, and the food was amazing.

We got a ton of stuff here and everything was fabulous. Started with some oysters, a salad, and bread rolls. The rolls were warm and buttery. The oysters were fresh but quite small for the price (we wanted them to be small though). For entrees, I had the most amazing fish sandwich and my cousin and aunt split the crab pasta and the rice dish. The crab pasta had a wonderful meaty flavor that almost reminded us of bolognese. I was sad that I was almost too full to eat more of it. The fries with the fish sandwich were thin and crispy and salty- my favorite type of fry. The sandwich itself was juicy and flavorful, and it had the most amazing sauce on it. We were sadly too full for dessert but I'm sure it would've been great. We were helped by a waitress who gave us some food recommendations and was attentive. Cute location and interior by the water in MB.

Food & service 10/10 !! I love to get the scallops . Iv never had anything like that before, the flavor is amazingly balanced and fresh . Mussels are freshest + plumpest mussels Iv ever had with a beautiful warm bread that comes in the side . They have a full bar so if you're wanting wine or a nice tequila etc they have it all. Love to go walking nearby amazing location in beautiful manhattan.

Delicious! I came here with a friend and we shared the Peruvian scallops to start. The scallops were FIRE. Just imagine the sweetest, freshest scallops, perfectly marinated in a tart and briny way. I definitely could've had a dozen of these! For my entrée I got the Koshihikari rice with uni and egg. I would say it is pretty good, definitely heartier than a porridge. It had a nice flavor of seafood but I think the addition of something bright or crunchy would've been nice to break up the heaviness of the dish. The salinity from the Uni was lovely though. Overall, this place is really cute and the service was on point. I would definitely return again to try other things on the menu!

Koshihikari Rice - Trust me, this is the dish to order!!!

I went back for my third visit in as many years and once again I was blown away. The restaurant is tiny so we had a counter seat that was right by the kitchen and the bathroom, but it was fine. We were just happy we got in. We had a few fresh oysters and great drinks before our entrees. My husband had the seared scallops which were perfectly made and plated. I ordered the Koshihikari Rice and loved it as much as I did 3 years ago when I had it. Seriously, I don't know that I will ever not order this dish. It's got a unique flavor to it I have never had anywhere else. We will definitely be back!

Can't believe it took me so long to actually try Fishing with Dynamite. The restaurant is pretty small so weekend reservations can go quickly. The service is excellent and the seafood is super fresh. It's a bit on the pricy side but worth it for a great meal. Located in the heart of downtown Manhattan beach. Street parking is easy to find. Would highly recommend for a date night.

Great vibe, incredible wine (the orange wine was BOMB), delicious food, and top-tier service. I made a reservation weeks in advance without realizing how small and popular this place has just a handful of indoor seats and a few tables outside. Every bite was incredible. We ordered the hamachi and I definitely should've asked for a side of chips to scoop up the extra avocado and sauce left on the plate. Everything was fantastic and perfect for sharing.

If you want exceptionally fresh seafood, prepared in delicious and innovative ways, Fishing With Dynamite is the place to go! We loved the oysters, the pan seared Maine scallops, the misoyaki black cod, the wild Spanish octopus, and more. The ambiance is lively, fun and busy. I wish this restaurant was in the Bay Area so I could enjoy their food more often, but I can't wait to visit Fishing With Dynamite next time I am in LA. Fun cocktails, too!

I call this a slice of New England in the South Bay. I should focus on the slice in the sense that the place isn't large so be sure to make a reservation. It's popular. Just a heads up. The interior has a cool nautical vibe that makes you feel like you're living that sailboat life. The oysters were perfection along with the delicious lobster rolls. I'd do it no other way.

Love this place, especially for brunch! The seafood is always super fresh and delicious. Everything tastes clean and high quality every single time. Our go-tos: the uni toast (literally one of my favorite foods ever), their always-perfect oysters, the koshihikari rice, Peruvian scallops, New England clam chowdah, and white shrimp ceviche. You honestly can't miss with any of the menu items here. And their cocktails are great too! The space is really cute but on the smaller side. They do have a few outdoor tables though, which is great if you want fresh air or have your dog with you. Service is quick and friendly. Parking is a bit of a hassle; we usually park in the structure a few blocks away and walk down the hill to get here. Easily one of the best seafood spots in the South Bay!!!

Ask the Community - Fishing With Dynamite

How's the parking?

Street parking and some garages but depending on the time of day street parking is hard to come by.

Is there a kid's menu?

No, not that I know of. I was there in July. I've been there often and they've never had a kid's menu. The place and tables small, not particularly child friendly regarding space.

Is it good for groups/large parties?

Not really. We are a family of 4 and we were very cozy in there

I see outdoor seating but is it dog friendly?

Yes

Where to park?

There is a public parking lot less than half a block up manhattan Blvd.

Our server, Raquel, was lovely and on top of things. I had what I think is the best Mai Tai I've ever had, even while in Hawaii! Just delicious. We enjoyed the fried asparagus and bacon deviled eggs as our appetizer. The buttermilk fried chicken, crispy chicken sandwich and the ribeye melt were really good, but I am STILL thinking about how incredible Cha Cha's Spicy Rigatoni was. So incredibly creamy, and full of flavor, with just the right amount of heat. My daughter orders this every time it's on a menu, and this is by far the best I've ever tasted. SO good. We had mentioned we were celebrating our twins' birthday, and they were served two lovely pieces of chocolate cake with a candle, AND a card for each of them signed by the staff. Never have I experienced that before for a birthday in a restaurant! Just a great touch. I am SO glad my daughter suggested we go here, and every time we're in town we will return. Every round that hit the table was a "pass it around, everybody try this" moment. The kind of happy hour where you're not just snacking -- you're accidentally having a full-on dinner because you can't stop ordering "one more thing." Food: Legit. Everything we tried was solid, but the wings were the standout for me -- the kind you keep reaching for even when you tell yourself you're good. Great flavor, cooked right, and they held their own against any wing spot that claims they're "known for wings." Whatever they're doing back there, keep doing that. Service / experience: This is where they really won. Trent was our guy tonight and I can't say enough about him. Manager supreme is the right title -- he wasn't just checking boxes, he was running the whole experience. He served, suggested, kept the pacing perfect, and made it feel effortless while still being locked in the entire time. You can tell when someone actually cares that your night is going well, and Trent is that dude. Major asset to this business and the kind of manager that turns first-time visits into "we're coming back next week." Atmosphere was exactly what you want for Manhattan Beach happy hour: lively, comfortable, easy to settle in, and perfect for a group. We came to try the menu and ended up staying for the vibe. Only complaint -- and it's not even on them, it's on the "beach cities trying to save the world one soggy sip at a time" vibe -- the paper straws. I swear those things last 11 minutes before they turn into a wet napkin. Let me live, Rockerfellas Bottom line: If you want a happy hour that actually delivers, Rockerfellas is it. Bring friends, come hungry, and if you get Trent taking care of you? You're in elite hands. We'll be back.

If I can tack on a 1/2 star or 1/2 point above, I would. And the only reason WHY I am not giving a…read morefull 5-star rating is because of The Rockefeller's cockamamie rule of "yes, we're dog friendly" but "you can't have your dog or your party block the sidewalk" and "we're not allowed to have the chairs out to here (indicating a particular distance on the sidewalk)", etcetera, etcetera. GIve me a break. JUST SAY that The Rockefeller isn't dog-friendly and be done with it, ok? By the way, this incident WAS on Mother's Day 2026, so the staff was particularly overwhelmed. . . so there's that timing. On a previous time my husband and I had brunch here about 4-5 months ago, we DID take our little doggie without any issue. So the staff either has to get their stories straight for next time or just say that The Rockefeller IS dog-friendly, BUT ONLY for a two- or one-person party. Other than that, The Rockefeller's Chilaquiles are phenomenal. It was flavorful and filling. Also, the Bacon & Eggs (two eggs, any style) -- which I had my eggs over-easy -- were outstanding. Bottom-line: Don't bring your dog. It's just too complicated for The Rockefeller to handle. Leave your dog at home.

Some dishes could've been executed better. Going down the list of dishes I had here: - Bacon Cheddar Buttermilk Biscuits: These were more like scones rather than biscuits. Crunchy with good bacon and cheddar flavor. - Japanese Hamachi Crudo: Unique and I liked the citrusy flavor and creamy texture. However, 3 small slices of fish for $26 was overpriced. - Leafy Greens & Radicchio: Solid and crispy salad with a nice tangy dressing. The cheese also added a lot of sharp flavor which was nice. - Skirt Steak: Good flavor and char, but a bit tough. Also some dry pieces. - Chilean Sea Bass: Lemon orzo risotto was creamy and delicious. The sea bass itself was okay, nothing special. It felt overpowered by the risotto. The fish was moist and flaky though. - 20 Oz Prime Beef Ribeye: Quality was subpar relative to price. Portion size was solid by the steak itself was inconsistent. Some of the pieces were rarer while others were more well-done even though we asked for medium rare. There were also some dry pieces which I did not like. Flavor was good though. - Strawberry and Olive Oil Cake: Was confused since there was just a thin layer of cake, but realized the title also referred to the mousse. I would title it 'Strawberry Mousse with Olive Oil Cake" to make it less confusing. Regardless, this was a delicious dessert! Love the fruity strawberry and savory pistachio flavors as well as the smooth textures. - S'mores sundae: Got this on the house for my aunt's birthday. A generous portion but the components were a bit too sweet for my liking. I visited this restaurant for a birthday that I organized and my experience was overall good. Reservation was made easy using OpenTable and I could also mention it was for a birthday occasion. The ambiance was gorgeous with good mood lighting. Good for group and 1 on 1 dining. Parking is metered or street parking. Overall, I probably wouldn't come out of my way to dine here again, but my experience wasn't bad just not significant enough to put in my rotation. Would come back if someone treated me here though.
