I love fish, and my salmon was tasty, but it really wasn't life changing by any means. My husband seemed to like his food too, and we both agreed that the menu offered at FishBar is our dream menu, but again, I don't see myself craving this place... Especially since there are so many fish restaurants like this all over LA. This place isn't any more unique than say Fish Dish, that's a little more fast casual. That being said, the waitstaff were very pleasant and if you're looking for some relatively good seafood around this area then FishBar should definitely be considered, however I personally would probably hit up the poke bar around the corner! read more

My husband got the lunch combo that comes with a shrimp & scallop skewer, wedge salad and new england clam chowder for only $10.99! Such a good deal! I stumbled upon the this place based on yelp reviews and it matched up pretty well. My friend and I were in the area looking for a place to have some fresh fish and FishBar delivered. I got the Salmon with original seasoning and it melted it my mouth. It was cooked to perfected. The Brown Rice was moist and not dry or chewy and the Sautéed Spinach has just enough garlic and seasoning. They seem to have a of deals on different days and if I lived closer I would totally check it out. Had an absolutely horrible experience with the server dining today. The Asian girl (she never introduced herself to us or greeted) was so inattentive it's crazy. Others did her job for her!The food was great as usual, but I cannot shake off how the whole experience was killed by a bad server. Took her 30 minutes to bring water. She brought 2 waters, it's 3 of us , then she never came to take our drink order. After waiting for like 40 minutes, I asked one of the passing by servers to take our order. The busser finally delivered water and bread and I mentioned we're sitting at the front door and yet noone has come by. He immediately got the Manager. She took our order, was polite and apologized. This is a great seafood lovers hangout, that's always packed. We recently came before 6PM on a Friday, and were lucky to get seated, thanks in part to a very nice hostess. We love to just dine on appetizers and sip wine. Can't pass up the crabcakes, which come on a bed of greens-- they are moist, tangy, and full of rich flavor. We also enjoyed the brussel sprouts, accented by buttery onions. We weren't wild about the artichoke app, as it was a bit too chewy and hard to eat. They also have great specials each night (i.e. Friday Night Steamers (great mussels), Taco Tuesdays). The cocktails and wines by the glass are very good, too. The thing that attracted me to this place is their happy hour specials. They not only have a daily happy hour but also daily theme nights as well. Was disappointed by the $9 happy hour beer, but most other places it was $7, so the whole area is expensive. Kind of funny because they are all several blocks from the beach with no view, but waterfront pricing. The old men hitting on the waitresses was kind of annoying, but I guess its the "regular" crowd. Everyone seemed to know each other. They asked me to move so they could sit in their regular seats, then called all the young waitresses sweetheart and baby. The happy hour food is a sample of the real portion, or at least looking at yelp photos it appears that way. Nice that you can sample a few different items, but also its regular price or higher if you do the math. Just call it appetizer samples. Inside they have nice TVs everywhere, a nice bar area. Its kind of your typical higher end casual place. I assumed Manhattan Beach was kind of a beachy, exotic type area, but felt like this restaurant could be anywhere. In an area with open windows, patios and views, this place is very "anywhere". Overall 3 stars because it was A-Ok. We came because the wife saw a picture of the bloody mary, which did look good, but in reality it was pretty bad. Loaded with so much course ground pepper, we spent more time chewing than drinking. Once of the worst bloody marys I've had in a while. The lobster mac was not mac, it was penne, please don't call it mac if you're not using macaroni. The time has to come to write a review for my new favorite restaurant in the South Bay and quite easily my favorite surf 'n turf restaurant in Greater LA. The prices are AMAZING. The food is AMAZING and the service is AMAZING. From the moment you check in with the Maître'd to being seated with our favorite server, Lehua to enjoying the delicious food that Jessica prepares in their kitchen, we've always had our expectations met! Jacqui (the GM) is awesome as well, always making sure your experience at FishBar has been top-notch. Want a Cakebread Chard by the glass? They have it. Great sports bar in El Porto. Kind, attentive staff, ample seating, and a fun atmosphere. FishBar has a nice selection of draft beers, one of which being their original FishBar brew, which my date really enjoyed. For food we shared the lobster roll and brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were awesome! I loved the lemon dill aioli sauce they were cooked in, and the caramelized onions were the icing on the cake! The lobster roll was very good, but there could have been a little more lobster in it. It came with fries, which we perfectly crisp. Overall a good time - I look forward to coming back! read more

Uhhhhhmazing! Where can you get a 1 1/2 grilled lobster with 2 amazing side dishes for about $33?! This is the real deal. My love and I went to FishBar for our final night in the Beach Cities and we had an amazing seafood feast. It was a little busy when we walked in but we were seated right away. Pretty lucky since they do not take reservations, though it was a weeknight. The decor and ambiance are very divey and casual. You definitely feel like your at a sports bar/dive. It is also very loud here. We requested to move to a more secluded seating area because it was getting too loud. Our server did this happily without hesitation. The food however, is a whole different story. For appetizers we ordered the Chipotle Fried Calamari and a cup of their Clam Chowder. The calamari was excellent; tender, crispy and very flavorful. The chipotle flavor was awesome and did not overpower the delicate calamari. Some of the best calamari I've ever had and rivals the calamari at The Met in Seattle. The clam chowder was fresh and light, pretty tasty. For my main course I ordered the 11/2 Pound Lobster Dinner. This came with two sides, I ordered the green beans with bacon and coleslaw (I love coleslaw!.) The lobster was awesome.. Sweet and tender, though I would've taken it off the grill a few minutes earlier, it was a tiny tiny bit overcooked. The green beans with bacon were fantastic! The beans were cooked perfectly, they went well with the smokey, crispy bacon. The beans were tossed in a light sauce that held everything together nicely. My bf had the Mahi Mahi. It was light, fresh and cooked perfectly. We also shared the Lobster Tacos, one fried and one pan seared. OMG let me tell ya, they were the most amazing tacos I've ever had. Everything you would want in a taco! The lobster was cooked perfectly, the slaw provided good textural contrast, and they were packed with flavor. I wanted to eat 10 of them! Definitely one of the best meals I've ever had in LA. Service was great, very attentive and welcoming. Prices and quality were unbelievable! We got all that including drinks and tip for under $100. This review is written from memory and some notes I wrote -- we visited about half a year ago. Parking was found at a metered street, but be prepared to put enough currency in there: parking enforcement was not too far away. I remember the restaurant having been about 3/4 filled, and the decor looking like BJ's restaurant or a sports bar. We were greeted, and soon seated in a booth. Despite a long wait to get our order taken, when we sat, utensils and napkins were nowhere to be found, even after our drinks were served. I had to grab them myself. For a period, we noticed that our waitress were not paying attention to us much while she was serving others around us. We had to flag her down multiple times before she would come over. Perhaps she was in training because she appeared to have been mirroring another waitress. Despite the inattentive service, our empty plates were always promptly removed by the other staff. We ordered: - Lobster Enchiladas with Egg - Lobster Tacos Gosh, the portions were large and quite heavy-set meals! Delicious, absolutely, particularly the Lobster Tacos. Fishbar was still open looked pretty cool on yelp. We parked in the lot across the street for a few quarters and headed inside. There was only a 5 minute wait before we were seated. Inside is a paradise of TVs for sports. I was getting a intimate yet casual yet sporty vibe from the place. People were cheering on the game as well as relaxing and getting cocktails at the bar. We ordered beers and got fish entrees. The food was delicious and came super quick. We only waited a few minutes after ordering for our food to come out. Usually I would like more time, but this was perfect. It was a pretty perfect evening to wind down, have a couple beers and great food for a decent price. FishBar is an absolute gem. I cannot say I am a regular like some of my friends, but then again I wish I was (and I wish I had more time for whiskey, interesting people, and beach life shenanigans). The staff (bartenders) are great. Friendly, wise, deep of soul and character. They are the heartbeat of the joint. There's enough whiskey and beer and cool people to drive one to a career of drinking and debauchery. If only...if only.
