My wife ordered the shrimp tacos. Super small portion of shrimp (3 in each taco). My soup was luke warm. The drink server was chomping on her gum. Plus two soft drinks. All for $70 plus tip. Move aside, chicken and waffles, you have competition! My boyfriend and I stumbled upon FishBar during our recent trip down to SoCal because he was craving fish tacos, and FishBar was the best place that came up on Yelp. So we moseyed in, sat down at a table, and were greeted by super nice servers. When it came to food, needless to say, he ordered fish tacos, but what caught my eye was a sign on the table that read, "Lobster + Waffle = AMAZING" Never has a sign been truer. The dish came out with a piping hot and fluffy waffle with deep friend lobster chunks rolling happily aside mounds of whipped cream and syrup on the side. Can you say heaven? The sweet and savory combination of this was unlike any other that I had experienced with regular ol' chicken and waffles. Something about the natural sea saltiness of the lobster made this dish that much more delectable. I probably could have eaten it all day, but alas, all good things must come to an end, and I had to muster all of my willpower to not (literally) lick the plate clean. For drinks, we tried their award-winning bloody mary (which is $4 if you buy a breakfast entree, btw), but I've never been a fan of bloody marys, so I'm not sure what else I can say about that. This is one of those places that I REALLY wanted to love. It had everything I wanted, cute location near the water, cozy interior, sweet servers, a FANTASTIC menu, and clean and well lit bathrooms (hey, that kind of stuff is important!). But the actual food.. not quite as amazing as I'd hoped it would be. Not by much, it was still good, just not amazing. I ordered the fried lobster, waffle, and a side of scrambled eggs with cheese from the weekend brunch menu . The waffle was actually very good, and the best part of the meal. Slightly crisp on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside. The eggs were unremarkable, and actually on the cold side. The lobster was okay- decent breading and flavor. Not fantastic, but it didn't blow me away. There is also a mimosa service for $18, which includes a bottle of champagne and a small carafe of orange juice. A good value! Fun, casual but trendy place. Lobster mac & cheese is a destination favorite. Well flavored cheesiness with solid bits of lobster hidden underneath the Penne and topped with a generous portion of Parmesan. The fried Calamari was generous, crunchy but over salted. The marinara was light but a hearty dollop of tomatoey goodness. The roasted Brussels Sprouts were delicious but TOO greasy! The caramelized onions were perfect. The fried Shrimp were butterflied but you ONLY receive 6. They weren't cleaned well so they were left unfinished. Total waste! Hibiscus Margarita was GOOD! I love fish bar!!! I'm SO bummed we didn't visit this place more often when we lived in the area. Their fish and chips are awesome. I also really liked their fries and muscles. They have a lobster night and it was delicious! It's an excellent place to watch a game or go to for Sunday brunch. Every time I've gone it's pretty packed so you'll probably have to wait a few minutes before being seated. Every dish I've seen come out looks so amazing. MEH I've wanted to come here for some time and had some out of towners come through so decided to give this place a shot for HH. We were seated in a booth next to the windows. We ordered some drinks on the happy hour menu which were great. It was like 4 or 5 for a house amber which were perfectly smooth. No complaints on there. The food though was incredibly lacking. The HH oyster specials seemed like a great idea but after three oysters that all seemed unfresh, we were pretty unimpressed. Calamari came and the portions were SUPER small. bleh. They were tasty but nothing too rave about. Could have had better at a yardhouse or some other chain restaurant. We also decided to order the salmon dish off the regular menu. The fish size was fair sizel for the price but tasted just as if I went to costco and baked it with lemon pepper seasoning. Nothing special. The fries.. nothing special.. the spinach it came with... just regular steamed spinach. Nothing was fresher than usual and for the high price tag of the dish, i guess I'd expect more. Came here with some co-workers, and I was pretty excited. A seafood place by the beach? HECK YEAH, where do I sign up? So we park in the parking structure across the street, which is pretty full, but we got lucky and found someone coming out. Parking was a few quarters. No biggie. We get inside and we see that the place is pretty cozy. That's basically code for "cramped, but comfortable". The decor inside is pretty cool, the bar seems pretty nice, and the TVs everywhere give your eyes some distraction instead of Yelping underneath the table or something. The waiter was attentive and helpful, so I have to commend him on that. The calamari appetizer we ordered was nothing to write home about, but then again, I don't really write home. I guess what I'm saying is that it was solid but not delicious. I ultimately decided to order the lobster roll, and--being the adventurous young man I am--substituted the fries for clam chowder. The clam chowder came first, and while it was admittedly tasty, it wasn't that great compared to some really, really good chowder I've had in San Francisco and Boston. Maybe it's unfair to compare this to the meccas of chowder, but...In any case, the clams' consistency was a little off to me, and the soup itself was flavorful but not as creamy as I would have liked. I found it slightly more liquid-like than I prefer, but then again, that could just be my strange palette and not a reflection of the chowder itself. The lobster roll came out next, and it was striking to me how odd it looked. The green onions were absolutely huge (see photo), which seemed strange to me. The lobster was cut into large pieces whereas I thought it would be shredded a little more. Indeed, when I bit into it, I felt like the lobster did not come apart that easily, and instead I had to eat every huge piece. The entire sandwich was incredibly buttery, which is pretty standard of a lobster roll, but I felt like it was just slightly TOO creamy. The bread itself was also heavily buttered and just served to make me thirsty. I was just laboring through the roll instead of enjoying it to its utmost potential. While I felt like the lobster was flavorful, I didn't find the overall sandwich to be that great at all and found myself envying the fish that my co-workers ordered. However, I want to end this review with a comment on the high chairs. Those things are crazy!!! First of all, some of the people I dined with had troubles getting up there. So if you have some sort of physical ailment or inability to climb tall chairs, then avoid those tables. Additionally, all of our legs were essentially dangling off, and the cramped nature of the restaurant just kind of squeezes you in. Once we were done eating, I felt like both legs were numb and like JELL-O. I'm not sponsored by JELL-O. So, ultimately, maybe I ordered the wrong thing, maybe I didn't go to the bar and don't know what the heck I'm talking about, or maybe I had an off-day. I ordered a pumpkin pie martini cocktail - Rumchata, Vodka, pumpkin, and cinnamon spice. I was really excited about this, but it was too strong for me and did not remind me of pumpkin pie. Fishbar is a nice beachy Tommy Bahama-like atmosphere on the far northern end of Manhattan Beach. The food is generally good, but nothing more special than what you could find at any other seafood restaurants in any of the beach cities. Their New England Clam Chowder, though, was exceptional good. They do offer daily specials, like Taco Tuesdays or Crab Wednesdays. Menu prices are a bit on the high side, but just about average for the area. read more

Would definitely recommend these appetizers to anyone going in there and the chowder in a bread bowl was a hit amongst the 4 of us. The lobster roll was delicious and the fries were nice n crispy, the salmon piccata had great flavor and the shrimp and scallop skewer was also delicious. This place does get busy, even on a random Wednesday at 5pm. Only down side was that I tried calling earlier for a reservation and they told me reservations are only available for parties of 8 or more. Service was average, hosts were pleasant, one waitress was great the other was rude (woman w/ shoulder tatto) ordered a French 75 she just sat it on the table and didnt acknowledge the drink, me, or the person i was with. The drink was served in the wrong glass, should not have had ice but did, and no lemon twist. Twice we have been to this restaurant around 8:30 ish and they turned us away saying the restaurant is closed. The website says they close at 9 pm. Both time we ended up walking to Panchos and they accepted us with open arms. Btw Panchos also closes at 9 pm. Fish bar was never like this as we have been there before around that time. They should changed the closing time to 8:30 pm on the website do people won't drive there and be turned away. We will never go there again after being a good customers to them for years. read more

I loved the food and service from wait staff. It was so good I came back for a second time within a month. I had the Ginger-Soy Ahi and my boyfriend had the Pan Roasted Chilean Sea Bass. We both loved our meals. Well seasoned, great portions and we cleaned our plates. The service from the staff at the hostess desk on my second visit left much in question and made my guests want to leave. I asked them to wait because the food is really good and would redeem that lackluster reception. It's a simple courtesy to greet people when they walk up and ask them to wait just a moment if busy instead of blatantly ignoring them as they stared at you awaiting acknowledgement. One hostess looked young so she may not have known any better but the other was def old enough to know better. I had the opportunity to come to this establishment on Taco Tuesday. I have normally come for lunch or dinner. When I arrived, I sat at the bar. The restroom was beautiful too, white and clean! I've heard many times before, a clean restroom = clean kitchen. Food was tasty but small portions. I got the Lobster Hash- large pieces of lobster :) Stupid me should have ordered my eggs over hard because I don't like a runny yolk but I ate it anyway. My bf got the Lobster Enchiladas. I liked his more than mine. I really liked the enchilada sauce, also good amount of lobster. Bloody Mary was perfect! Spicy, tangy and savory. It was my first time trying pickled asparagus and I am a fan! The bacon that came with the bloody was delicious too, salty and crispy! Mojito was alright, it tasted really syrupy.. My favorite, the Moscow Mule! Everyone commented how gingery it tasted and smelled, but I love ginger! Super refreshing! Hmmm... I am little conflicted on how to review this place. I went here based on the feedback from my fellow Yelpers (who rarely prove me wrong) but I must say that I didn't understand the fuss about this place. I'll start with the good: Prices - everything was pretty reasonable considering there is a lot of seafood entrees. Their Happy Hours and special Monday menu had solid value. Interior - while small, the place is set up well and accommodates quite a few people and is update and clean. Clientele felt a little stuffy but maybe because we were eating with the early bird MB crowd. The not as good: Food - the food was just 'meh' to me. We ordered the infamous lobster tacos, lobster mac n'cheese, mussels, clam chowder, fried shrimp and bread pudding. While real, I had to search for the pieces in my mac n cheese and was not impressed with the overall flavor. I think a boxed white sauce has more flavor. I wanted to love the lobster tacos but there was something off about the batter they used. It seemed stale and my lobster pieces were not all that huge. The amount of red onion in the taco overwhelmed my senses and I could only eat one. The mussels were okay but the broth they were served in came out cold. That is never good for a butter based sauce... And yes, the clam chowder was a little sweet. Service -I think our server was having a bad day. She wasn't rude to us but you could tell that she was having an issue with management and she seemed distracted and pissed off about something. Her smiles seemed force and I don't think she wanted to be there. Location - While you can appreciate any restaurant close to the water, this place is on a smaller corner in MB and the parking must get crazy during prime time. Fortunately, we got there at 4pm on a Monday and we scored a metered spot directly in front of the restaurant. If I had to judge this place on the food alone, it would probably be 3 stars. But the interior is bright and cozy, and reminds me of a nice beach house. Add a bunch of tv's everywhere and you got yourself a really nice place to have a Sunday brunch. I ordered some lobsters tacos and liked the fact that they came with brown rice. The tacos actually had big ole chunks of lobster meat in it, which was kind of impressive. Our large group also ordered several appetizers, but I found most of them to be pretty standard. The best starter was probably the artichokes, but then again, it's hard to mess up an artichoke. We ended up ordering a bunch of drinks and having a good time. But as much as I hate to say it, the service was a little lacking. Several food orders came out much later than others, and it took a really long time getting any appetizers on the table. So even though they can accomodate large groups in the back, they're probably better equipped to deal with smaller groups. But overall I think everyone enjoyed their brunch. We came here at 3pm on a weekend and FishBar was busy, but not too busy that we couldn't get a table. One of the first things you notice is that there are tons of TVs. This is definitely the place to go if you're looking for a sports bar. The menus were large. It was hard deciding what to order, but we ordered the New England clam chowder, the lobster tacos, and the cod fish and chips. The first thing that was delivered was the complimentary bread, which was nice and warm. The inside of the bread was soft, which was nice. Next was the clam chowder, which was very tasty. It was sweet, which I really enjoy. The lobster tacos were okay. I definitely liked that there were large, distinguishable pieces of lobster, but other than that the dish was mediocre. It comes with a bed of brown rice, which could use some seasoning. The fish and chips were delicious. The fish itself was nice and tender, cooked perfectly. The service was quick and attentive. We really enjoyed our lunch here. -- We came here for dinner on a different night because FishBar is one of the few places open late. They have a reverse happy hour, which is essentially late-night happy hour. They have $1.99 clam chowder, which is an amazing deal. We tried the smoked salmon corn chowder, but still prefer the original New England clam chowder. We also ordered the lobster mac and cheese. Been coming here for a while now; the food is good, but the service is terrible. Always takes forever, busy or not busy doesn't matter. For example, we went on a relaxed Saturday with three servers and maybe 10 tables filled but somehow it took over 15 minutes before we realized the server wasn't planning on taking our order. Other servers or greeters would pass by without asking if we were taken care of. No negativity or anything; just forgot about us I guess, even though we were right there... we ended up just getting bored and left.
