Total hidden gem, love this area...it's like the Presidio of SF, but on the Marin side. These barracks used to house military officers and commanders. I'm not used to seeing fancy restaurants take over such historical landscape. How times have changed, now that my son attends school in Sausalito, he's had the opportunity to cook with the best Chefs in town. Yup, his school has an awesome Chef who's also a local celebrity in Sausalito - shout out to Chef G! Locals like myself don't really frequent touristy spots filled with pretentiousness. However, I promised my son I'd try Chef Justin Everett's colorful dishes. Boy, was I happy I finally came after a nice hike at Marin Headlands. I had the pleasure of meeting Chef Justin himself and thanked him for being a stellar mentor to the local youth. He and other Chefs, along with numerous supporters passionately launched The Conscious Kitchen (the first farm-to-table school dining in Sausalito Marin City School District) to ensure kids get the healthiest meals and promoting healthier lifestyles. It takes a village! This program is now being embraced by East Bay schools; hopefully, the entire Bay Area. Onto my tasty lunch, I ordered the steamed mussels and some artisanal cheeses (non-pungent), as I figured everything pairs well with a glass of Malbec. Javier the barkeep was pleasant and easy to talk to. I was not disappointed, the mussels were garlicky and buttery enough the way I like them...more bread please. =) I was impressed by the blue cheese from Oregon, it wasn't pungent at all and had a sweetness to it. If it wasn't so cold and foggy, I would have sat outside. The patio overlooks Fort Baker and the luscious scenery with a clear view of the Golden Gate Bridge, also dog-friendly. Was not impressed. I've been here before and it was ok but not amazing and I don't think I will come back. The server, Emmanuel, didn't clarify our order so when we asked for sparkling water..he brought two (one was enough). The appetizers ( a friend rice ball and the pork bao bun) were "ok". The burger ordered "medium rare" came back RARE..like raw meat from the butcher rare. The mushroom ravioli was again "ok" and a bit sweet. Last time it was better. We hadn't been to Farley Bar in several months and were very surprised and disappointed with the interior remodeling. Gone are the historic bar, light fixtures, draperies, couches and overstuffed chairs, which lent a very historic/clubby/homey feel to the space. The new motif looks more like a partway shift to mid-century modern which is not the vibe of the former Fort Baker buildings. The uniqueness of the ambiance is gone. The food continues to be generally good, but the $8 mocha is thin and made with wimpy espresso. read more

We came here for our 20th anniversary. We made reservation for outdoor seating but the weather wasn't so warm that evening. However, our host was so accommodating and so helpful and was willing to move things around to make sure we were taken care of. We sat the bar and we had Lee, a newer bartender to Farley. He was so great and made one of the best cocktails in town. If you are ever around the area, it's a must!! The ambiance and the vibe was so unique. Former military base Fort Baker is a SPECTACULAR location that was converted into a luxury resort with a dining room (Sula) and lounge (Farley), in the early aughts. I had enjoyed brunches and dinners there in the dining room pre-Pandemic, especially with out of town guests: the wow factor is huge. The dining room hasn't been open to pre-Pandemic capacity since and the resort pivoted to make best use of the smaller-spaced lounge. 6:30pm was the earliest reservation available so I snapped it up and we headed over early to see if we could get in (which proved to be no problem as there were only 3 occupied tables in the 10+ table room). It was a birthday dinner and we had noted it on the OpenTable reservation. We were cheerfully greeted by 2 hostesses who inquired whose birthday it was, led us to our table, fawning and smiling. We were seated at a small, low, lounge table with 2 low, upholstered wing-backed chairs near a rear exit door and server station. We deferred to their good judgement. Cavallo Point is a resort and we thought perhaps the other tables were earmarked for resort guests (2 deuces came in at 7:30pm but that was it). 2 servers approached and took my friend's drink order while I used the rest room. When I returned, we could see his drink sitting at the service station for pick up about 4 feet away where it sat for another 10 minutes. The servers were nowhere to be seen. My friend used the rest room. I perused the cocktail menu, discovering what their spirits program had to offer. Considering all the cocktails are $19 each, I was thinking this was going to be a great drink! About 10 minutes later the servers resurfaced but never approached the table. My friend flagged down the servers so I could place a drink order. I ordered the Sausalito Sunset: Bacardi white rum, Smith & Cross rum, Gosling's dark rum, passionfruit, coconut, orgeat (almond), lime juice, nutmeg. 10 minute wait. My friend flagged down the servers again. What arrived was terrible! Today, after re-reading the menu, I now realize the cocktail was missing ingredients! Served was simply rum and coconut over crushed ice - no passion fruit, no almond, no lime juice, no nutmeg - one of the worst cocktails ever sipped. Sadly, this became the definitive Farley pattern - ingredients in a lovely narrative description simply missing. Marketed as "An Artful Twist on Farm to Fork - elevated American classics and a new take on Bay Area favorites which pays homage to the seasonal bounty of Northern California" and self-described as "creative" and "farm-focused" with "cocktails inspired by fresh, local botanicals," if judged by this dinner, empty words in what appears to be the emperor's new clothes. We've heard of "green-washing" but this is "farm-to-table washing" or more simply put, hype. Hype with exorbitant prices, even by Bay Area standards. For appetizers we shared the $22 Corn and Pumpkin Griddle Cakes with fresh Dungeness Crab Meat, Trout Roe with a Pasilla Pepper Aioli, and Lime. How a dish with the listed ingredients could be flavorless is puzzling (however, there was a lot of crab meat). We also chose the $10 Iacopi Farms White Bean Soup (charred Eggplant, Roasted Garlic, Tomato Relish, Crostini). Again, with these ingredients it is hard to understand what came out - simply a plain white bean puree with zero flavor. Bad sign when the $9 fresh baked Parker House Rolls with a sea salt, Marshall's honey-apple butter proved to have the most flavor of the course. For main courses I chose the Grilled Baja Swordfish with Organic Lentils, Bloomsdale Spinach, Fall Squash, Sundried Tomato, and Madras Curry. The lentils on which the swordfish rested were decidedly lukewarm. The swordfish was warmer - but definitely would not pass a Chef's pocket-thermometer test. Clearly plate set up too early, fish placed, then sat too long under a warming lamp. And there simply was no Madras Curry in this dish. The end result was lukewarm lentils topped by warm swordfish with a layer of some kind of tomato puree with some small squares of squash and a lump of spinach on top. At $36 (and the second highest ticket item on the menu) disappointment, again. My friend ordered the $22 Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich with Grain Mustard Aioli, Butter Lettuce, Tomato, Onion, Pickle on Brioche Bun. It was quite hearty (and almost grotesquely large - 2 fried chicken cutlets) and it satisfied him. He paired it with $12 Umami Fries which were described with these words: Porcini, Parmesan, Truffle Oil. We weren't really sure where the Porcini made an appearance (perhaps infused in the truffle oil?) but the fries were tasty and decadent in texture ("floppy greasy" rather than "crispy"). We didn't bother with a Birthday dessert. We were done with disappointments. But Farley had one more for us - the check, the total sum of many disappointments. Sadly, Cavallo Point is the new Cliff House - a tourist destination best remembered for photo ops, not cuisine. read more

We were staying at Cavallo Point Lodge, so I made dinner reservations at Farley prior to our arrival. Figured it's convenient and seemed to be a good place for a romantic dinner. When I made the reservation online I put in the notes that I wanted a table with a view if possible (it was my first time there). We arrive 10 mins early to our reservations, we check in and they asked us if we wanted a table outside (no thank you, not when it's 49 degrees outside) anyway we wait at the bar for a bit until we were seated at a table that's definitely not made for normal sized human beings (maybe for Hobbits?) and right smacking in the middle of the busy overcrowded restaurant. Up to that point I was trying to hide my irritation, then the server comes (who was rude and unpleasant), we ask to be seated at a different normal sized table which we did. Then it gets better, I ordered a burger that I asked to be cooked medium well, but unfortunately was burnt and the whole thing was so damn dry that I couldn't swallow more than a few bites. I could have literally went to in n out and ate in the car with my girl and we both would have been happier. And that was how our date night was ruined and my attempt to have a romantic dinner with my girlfriend was a failure because of this failure of a restaurant. We stayed a couple of nights at Cavallo Point and the night we arrived we really just wanted something casual and not having to dress a bit for dinner. So, we headed to Farley Bar and it is a treasure. It does get busy, but it makes for a fun and lively atmosphere. I ordered one of their seasonal cocktails, Mai Tai on Fire, it was so good, they could have kept them coming. Made with Mt. Gay Black Barrel Rum, lime juice, blood orange puree and jalapeno. The jalapeno added a nice bite to the finish of the drink. We started with the Coal Roasted Onion Dip and Chips, it was fantastic. For dinner we had the potato leek soup with crispy capers, it was nice and hot for a cool San Francisco evening. The bowl was delivered with the crispy capers placed on the bottom and our server poured the piping hot soup over. The capers added a nice crunch to the soup with a saltiness that was really nice. The Quinoa Mac and Cheese is gluten free for those of you needing GF for dietary reasons. The Mac and Cheese was really creamy with a sauce that had a blue cheese which added a nice bite. On the top was some crispy Quinoa which added a nice crunchy texture. I could have licked the dish clean it was so scrumptious. We also had lunch one day at Farley Bar. After a long hike and a walk on the Golden Gate Bridge, we wanted something substantial for lunch. Starting with the Truffle Fries, they are nice and thin and perfectly fried without being greasy. Mr. Bee ordered the Cheeseburger and added marinated mushrooms to the burger. They are marinated in a sherry vinegar and added the perfect tangy flavor to cut the richness of the burger. The Cheeseburger comes with chips and the Coal Roasted Onion Dip on the side. I went for the Quiche of the Day. Tender, creamy egg filling with turkey, Brie and spinach it was incredibly delicious and served with a fresh greens salad. Farley Bar is a great spot at Cavallo Point. read more

I have never been treated so poorly in my life. We planned a lunch to celebrate our friend's pregnancy - they sat us at tiny end tables with not enough room for our party. They then forced us to do a pre fixe menu that was outrageously over priced and included a terrible selection. When we asked to have a regular menu, we were told yes but we would need to move inside. We agreed, moved our party and then they still refused to give us regular menus. We were there for 45 minutes, we're not given water or offered to order any drinks. We immediately left and ruined our friend's lunch. The host was on a power trip and the manager had no control over the situation. Rude, incompetent and the epitome of poor hospitality. Needless to say, I will not be returning and recommend you don't waste your time by even trying. read more

Just went to Farley last night for dinner. Bar area always great. Drinks were good. Had reservations outside for four. Food was pretty good as always. The server was just bad. I had to go inside and ask for service. We were getting cold out there and he was nowhere to be seen. He finally comes takes our order. Fine, the food took a while (not his fault) but he could've come to see if we needed more drinks or just check in. But no, Nada. Food comes. He disappears no checking on us, nothing. I had to get up again and ask for check. Ten minutes later still nothing, got up again and asked, then I asked another waiter and finally the guy comes out with check. Says nothing. Really bad. I wish I hadn't tipped him at all but I did and feel stupid. Greying buz cut guy. What the hell was he doing? It wasn't even crowded? Disappointed. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for brunch to celebrate our anniversary recently and the Staff really laid out the red carpet for us. Without even asking, they put us at the best table up front with a Bay and Golden Gate bridge views. The drinks were fantastic - we had a riff on a mai tai called the Sausalito Sunset and a Royal Blush served up. The food was great as well - we had the vanilla bean donuts, sweet corn and pumpkin griddle cakes, and chilaquiles. Highly recommend! read more

I've been going to Farley's since they opened. We love this cozy bar. One of the things we loved most has now been changed though, I was disappointed to learn last evening. The onion dip. People from out of town who visit me insist on going to this restaurant for this dip. No more. Now it's some basic truffle thing. Blech. Why truffle everything?! The food has changed. (New chef?) Some for the better and some for the worse. The poke was great. Some of the other items could use a bit more inspiration. I ordered the grilled chicken salad without feta and ended up with it being covered in feta but with no fennel or salad dressing. Weird. The cocktail menu was great though and we had a good time, as always. read more

Fourth time at Cavallo Point. Service good attentive. It's an upscale bar menu at the moment - a transition. Partner really liked the taste of the burger, and the umami fries. Lots of visitors in beautiful Sausalito for the day from all points north and south. Looking forward to the restaurant re opening across the lobby. At the moment it's sort of Marriott upper end meets small occasional echos of Four Seasons bar food when staying at a hotel. We were on our way back from Napa to the city and wanted to stop somewhere with a view for lunch. We weren't set on going to the wharf so we yelped about what was 'near' the GG Bridge. This spot came up! The views and reviews looked great so we gave it a shot. The views WERE great. The restaurant wasn't right on the water like I had thought but if you sit on their front patio, you will definitely see the water. To start, I ordered a Bloody Mary while we were waiting for a table outside and it was super tasty with just the right amount of spice. For lunch, we split their lettuce salad that had marinated strawberries, hazelnuts & goat cheese. {I honestly wish that I would have had this for my meal. It was delightful!} For the entree, we split the pastrami sandwich with an egg on top and the steak sandwich {modeled after a Philly cheesesteak}. Both were delicious but pretty heavy, I'm in a major food coma now and am kind of regretting eating such a heavy lunch! The steak sandwich came with homemade chips and onion dip and both were fantastic. The prices were a little high; For 1 salad, 2 sandwiches and 1 sprite, our bill was $62 {including tip}. Other than that, we were very satisfied! If you're looking to dine at a place near the city without the hustle and bustle and great views, I recommend this spot!! read more

For such a nice place, Farley's got pretty loud, making it hard to have an intimate conversation among four friends at a table. OK, it was a Friday, Cocktail hour, and it was busy, but that changed the atmosphere from the usual "charming" to "boisterous". That aside, we really enjoyed our Cheese and Charcuterie Board. Oh! and the Garlic Fries! The more garlic the better! We debated a bit, but finally decided, with the help of our young, but surprisingly knowledgable, waiter on a bottle of true Barbera. Also, one of us had the Grapefruit Cocktail. I tried it, and it was delicious! It was a nice, impromptu gathering and a good place, off the beaten path, to have it. read more

The customer service here is terrible!! Beware! The hostess is beyond rude, aggressive and straight awful to paying customers. I should mention that this review is coming from someone who worked in restaurants for a handful of years. I couldn't believe she was allowed to speak to customers the way that she did. She was so aggressive and unwilling to work out a simple solution. It was quite shocking that her managers had zero control over her. Long story short we had one additional guest join our group last minute (my good friend flew in from CO to surprise me) she refused to let us order off the regular menu and instead order from a set prefix menu that was $85 a person that started off with yogurt!!! My friend even said she would order and sit at the bar so we could have the regular menu and the hostess refused to allow that! Keep in mind the restaurant was not full at all!!! I also booked this reservation a month out. We sat at a table For 45 minutes with no service and no water. We called Buckeye Roadhouse in Mill Valley and they said they would gladly take a party of 9 so we immediately got up and took our business elsewhere. This place is a joke! Hospitality is not a priority here and I can't and will not recommend this place to anyone! Please don't go here and waste your time and money to be treated like an absolute inconvenience to the staff and go to other establishments like Buckeye Roadhouse where their staff was so kind and happy to make sure you had a great experience. read more

First visit to Farley since the remodel. Before remodel I had a lovely and very delicious outdoor brunch with girlfriends here. Same crew this time, indoors, apparently new restaurant. Start by saying the service was great. But the food was strangely off. I ordered the crab benedict and when it arrived, the eggs were essentially raw (even the whites were soup) and the dish underneath the eggs completely cold (like refrigerator-cold, not merely room temp). I sent it back (I so hate to be that person, but raw eggs is a safety thing). It came back with the eggs cooked but layers of the Benedict still cold, giving a mouthful of warmish eggs, lukewarm hollandaise, and cold bread and refrigerator-cold avocado underneath. It was like leftovers I had warmed up myself in the microwave, partially. So strange and lazy for a fancy restaurant. I didn't have the assholery to complain again, so I ate it sort of. It was resoundingly meh, certainly not worth $28. This is a great location and such great potential (used to be great to boot). Please do better with the food details if you intend to be fine dining. read more

This is a fine spot for nosh, relaxing, and a drink to unwind. You're sure to get attentive service in a historic building, with crackling fires, and intimate surroundings. The food is filling. We both ordered salads. I had one with tender greens, which was really cut up romaine. It was also supposed to have fresh, young capers. They just seemed unripe, and not particularly briny. The avocado on my salad was severely over salted. My other half had the seared tuna salad. It had far too much frisée accompanying the dish, which made it terribly bitter. Other dishes may have been better but we were trying to eat lighter dishes. The last time I was here I had a delicious vegetarian dish. read more
