I just put my items in storage at Extra Storage Space in Nov. In one month my rental rate went up over 30%!!! When I called to talk to someone about such an excessive increase, they tell me that the first payment in November was a "special" rate. I asked where in writing was that indicated. They said it did not exist in writing. That it would have been mentioned to me verbally. I said it was not. In fact, before I moved in, I asked when could I anticipate a rent increase and they told me in about 5 months and it would probably increase 10-15%. I've been a business owner for over 30 years and this is not the way I do business. It's dishonest and lacks integrity not to have so called "special rates" in writing and be transparent. Pretty much all franchise storage facilities are going to be comparable. But something important that needs to be fixed at the facility on Burroughs that I use is MORE HUMANS and better customer care. Aside from the day that I signed up over a year ago in a smaller and very inconveniently located space with no lights when a wonderful woman signed me up and the office was actually open, I've had trouble finding the office open to speak with a human. When calling it is the same deal. "No one available to take your call right now." And I'm calling during business hours on days that their site says they are open. I have wanted to cancel my contract now for two months, but it's tough when I can't drive there, fingers crossed, to find a person to cancel and when people don't pick up the phone. Maybe this facility needs to hire more help? I think the place can afford it. I pay $282 a month for the privilege of storing things. I've now sold half the storage contents and don't need the space. But here I still have it. Now I'm stuck, I think, for another month. But who knows? Cuz there isn't a human to ask. This time a left a message they are sure to return. If anyone actually checks these reviews from the facility or the corporate office, please address the lack of customer care. We renters pay a lot each month and we deserve good service. We also need lighting. Why don't you have lights at least on the outside of the units that shine into the units? The first one I had was dark day and night, down a long corridor. The light outside my unit didn't work. I was stressed when moving in there, so I only casually mentioned at front office. Nothing changed even when the facility underwent rehab in that wing. Strange. Lights are a good thing. They allow us to see our stuff and not injure ourselves when entering our units. Just a thought.... read more

Offer Reserve online option saying last unit, don't let it get away then call and confirm when your coming in. Show up with a Rented Truck and unit rented to someone else So I end up having to rent a larger unit then I need and paying more for it or go to a further away location which would have meant an additional day for the truck. 90 days and I receive a rent Increase notice. Call to switch to size originally wanted which shows available and get told I would have to pay 40% more then internet price, couldn't have the internet price, So I ask for DM to call me back and 3 days and 2 more calls later I finally get to speak with DM Asst and they say I can have internet rate, not a problem. But the unit I wanted to switch to was gone AGAIN. Horrible customer service, Overall in the last 90 days they failed to call back when they said they would 4 times and really don't care once you become a customer, your no longer important. read more

Renter beware! We were all set to store our stuff. We put a deposit on the unit. When we showed up with our stuff thats when they decided to tell us about the extra $10 a month insurance coverage that was mandatory. We canceled and took our things elsewhere where there was no mandatory insurance fee. Very deceptive. read more

Best customer service ever. The facility is always clean. When I lost my car keys in the elevator they fished it out for me. I recently forgot where I left my storage lock keys so they broke the lock for me and I bought a replacement lock and key. Watch out after 5 months they do increase your monthly rate by around 20 %. They legally cheat. It is in the agreement that they can increase rate anytime. So they do it after 4-5 months. read more

Happy so far at this place. The staff is great, super friendly and very accommodating. Great prices too. The only 2 things that would make this place better are to have better lighting in the individual units specially inside of the building and making better use of the additional gate. It sure would be nice to have a one directional flow of traffic in and out of the place. Overall great. read more

Going back to Public Storage! This place is over priced for what you re getting. My roll up door is old and falling apart, The walls are caving in, it's dirty, customer service is bad, my kids can never use the bathroom because it's always filthy! Already complained about all the items listed above and they haven't done anything about it. Public storage is much better. I don't recommend this place to anyone ! My brother and I came here this evening 8/3/21 around 9:40 pm. We were unloading our vehicle and we got everything into my brother's storage unit. Around 10:01 pm , 20 minutes later, I was walking out to my SUV and I was gonna wait for my brother who was still inside. As soon as I walked to my car, I observed a white SUV parked outside of my brother's storage unit. The SUV looked like a Mercedes. The couple sitting inside the vehicle, they didn't identify themselves as security, and they didn't look like security either which was really strange. They didn't say anything to me, but when my brother walked out, they told my brother that he has to leave and it was only 10:01 pm and we were leaving anyway. The couple still didn't identify themselves as security officers and they think they have the right to make my brother and I leave when we were already leaving anyway. They were harassing us and they said they were gonna call the police. My brother said to go ahead and call the Police because we didn't do anything wrong. The two suspicious security guards made a big deal over nothing. Those two suspicious security officers should be fired for harassing my brother who pays money to have a storage unit at that facility unbelievable!!!:( read more

The service at Extra Space Self Storage on Burroughs is exemplary. Even on a Sunday, when the office is closed, the on-site manager was more than willing to help me when my gate code malfunctioned. Going above and beyond! I rented a space at their facility and it is clean, well lit and competitively priced. Since I live in Aliso Viejo it is also conveniently located. This place is really clean. Which is important to me when I'm storing something long-term. The manager is also really sweet, which makes it less awkward to store things there long-term. Furthermore, I appreciate the security the place has because I can trust that my stuff is going to be safe. I actually had a storage space here before (was very happy with service/location) and left to move to a competitor storage company which opened next door. My thinking was newer place and they had some amazing "OPENING" deals. Mistake, as it was a nice new place, however the service sucked and I ended up not liking that I needed to take an elevator up/down to move in my stuff and every time I needed to access my storage thereafter. After about a year of this I stopped in over a weekend to see if there were any deals to move back over to extra space. Thats when I met the new manager Thomas and from the moment I walked in I was sold all because of Thomas. The rates for my storage were now comparable to next door and they have "drive-up" units that make it easy for me to access my storage. For me its all about service and if I needed to sacrifice cost (which I did not have to in this case) I would have in a heartbeat all for the extra service, care and genuine interest to my needs. My daughter's unit was robbed, as well as others at the same time. No cooperation from the corporation since the robbery regarding insurance coverage and access to her unit is denied with lame excuses. They advertise excellent security and surveillance, but that is not true. She has gone there when the gate is wide open and anyone can enter. Even with a lock on, your unit's door can be opened for anyone to rob. She has tested this on other units. Rent increases are the norm. Customer service not only sucks, but their employees on location, with the corporation, and the insurance carrier are downright rude. They put obstacles in your way by requesting additional information. Each time you provide what they need, they need something else, which prolongs the process - and saves them money. They continue to make it more difficult to settle claims. Their security cameras are not well placed, with minimal coverage. People with expertise in security say that camera coverage is woefully inadequate and theirs is the worst that they have seen. Their customer service is meant to intimidate the customer into believing they have no rights. One employee said: "Robberies happen often, and it's not IF, but WHEN" a robbery will occur.
