Update to Joel's response regarding excessive damage and my "dramatic" review: I can understand one or two scratches on the walls because hey, sh*t happens. But two broken walls and three additional LARGE scratches, plus a broken picture frame? I will call that excessive considering I moved into a brand new apartment, and me being the first resident in this unit. To say that the four out of five pictures were "scuffs that are easy to brush off", is clearly not true. There are two clearly broken areas in the walls: 1. Living room, 2. Bedroom behind bed frame. One scuff was easy to come off, and the others clearly need paint. Trust me, we tried to clean all these "scuffs" and was unsuccessful. Plus, we shouldn't even have to get that far with having to clean my walls. So once again, yes, excessive damage for one move. I appreciate that refund, but your men did try to pull the "big discount" for reimbursing me for a damaged wall that I saw your men do and had I to say something before being told they would speak to you. My post clearly indicated that the 5% discount for paying cash was applied, but I had to bring up that detail SEVERAL times. I did accept the additional reimbursement, I never said I did not. Being seven months pregnant in a middle of a pandemic, I rather not have additional people in my house. But hey, I'll let the good people of Yelp look at the pictures and make their own decisions regarding who they hire. I'm just here to give my honest review. ------------------------------------------------ Recently hired Around the House Movers for a Tuesday move within the same complex. J was the person I was initially in contact with when getting availability and quotes, and she seemed very nice. Although this company wasn't the cheapest, I decided to hire them based on all the positive reviews. Let's talk about the good and bad regarding service on the DAY OF: The good: - Very accommodating when I moved my move date to 3 days earlier. - The three men (Gio, Stanley, and I forgot the third person's name) arrived almost on time. They knocked on my door at 20 minutes past 9am because they had the wrong phone number. But glad they took the time to find a way to get into the building. - All three men moved very quickly. - Wrapping of furniture was on point. No (new) damages to big furniture. -All three men were nice. The Bad: - Several scratches on walls ranging from hallway, to both bedrooms. - One of the men damaged the wall to the point where it broke the (small) area. Found another area in the bedroom just as damaged. I'm guessing that they pushed the bed frame in too far that it broke the wall. I was offered $50 off total price for damages. - Quote I was given over the phone was different that what the men charged per hour at the end of move. I should I had gotten numbers in writing, lesson learned. -I was told over the phone that if I paid cash, a 5% discount would be applied. They tried to pull the "well, you're getting a bigger discount with the $50 off"!! Umm no, you're offering me $50 for damaging my walls. In the end, they honored the additional 5% off for paying in cash. Aftermath: The next day, as I was unpacking boxes in my sons room, I noticed quite a bit of scratches on the walls. I immediately sent a picture to J, who forwarded it to her boss. I shortly received a call from the main boss Joel, and asked me to send pictures of the damages. He then offered to send out someone to paint the walls. My husband decided that it would be better if we took care of the walls, and Joel offered a reimbursement. I accepted. Overall, what started out as a positive experience, turned into frustration 6 hours later. While they did a great job loading, the unloading was subpar because of the excessive damages. I've used several moving companies, and this is the first time any company has caused so much damage in my new home. I don't plan to use Around the House movers for my next move, which will occur in 13 months. read more

They knew I wanted antiques and fragile artifacts that are irreplaceable packed to be shipped overseas. The two packers would not do as I asked and simply threw two layers of bubble wrap around these valuable pieces and stacked them in boxes, without proper cushioning and without the proper way to wrap valuables for an overseas move. They were supposed to first wrap each piece in acid-free tissue paper, then plastic wrap, then bubble wrap. The boxes should have had cushioning/ protection at the top and base and any empty spaces should have been secured with more bubble wrap. And each box was to be double boxed. None of this was done. They just wanted to finish up and go home, not caring for my pleas that their packing job was inadequate to me. Also I was not notified I'd be paying for their gas, I was lied to by the packer that they only get minimum wage, thus I foolishly tipped them $100 and paid $145 for the hour they took for lunch, paid by me. I was told by the main contact person that they do not take a lunch break and they will bring their own food and drinks. Lies, lies, lies. The items they packed were so few that they only took up ONE HALF of a room, and even then they would not do the job as I wanted. I paid about $1,600.00 for this. And now I have to pull each box out of storage and repack every items properly myself!! Although my physical health is bad and that's why I hired them to begin with. DO NOT USE THIS BUSINESS UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR VALUABLES TO GET TO YOU IN PIECES, while you're lied to and are overcharged. AVOID THIS COMPANY!!! Even the one star is too much. read more

I spent some time searching for movers as I've never hired a company to do it before and of course a little nervous about other people handling my stuff. Some companies had tons and tons of reviews but upon further look you can see that they seem fake or as if the company paid people to post fake reviews (like I said I spent a little while searching). When I found ATH, I could tell the reviews seemed real as they were more detailed and even the ones that had a negative tone, the owner would reply with clear details so I could tell that it was a business with involved people. Anyway ... Gio and Mizael did a wonderful job. They were very fast and efficient and helpful. I thought it would take only 3 hours as I don't have a ton of big things, it took almost 4 but the location I moved to had a really long hallway to deal with so I know that the distance between the loading zone and my place made a difference. This was our second time using this company for a short move in Irvine, We completed our move on Friday October 2nd, 2020, and three expensive items were damaged in a short move from one building to another. The wooden leg on our $900 digital piano was completely ruined, a brand new $400 desk that we purchased to work from home during COVID was damaged, and our bookshelf was also damaged. The items were wrapped in plastic far too tightly, making the legs bow and crack under pressure. In addition, the items were not carefully lowered down to the ground from the dolly, they were instead set down forcefully which to the damage. Customer service at the office (a woman named Jaye) was unprofessional and very discourteous about it when I called to provide feedback on our experience. In summary her attitude was essentially: "what else do you want me to do?, why are you telling me? we already offered you choices to resolve the matter, these things happen sometimes". The choices they offered for the damage were $0.60 per pound of the damaged items, or to have someone come and see if they can repair the items. I explained that the the weight of the item doesn't correlate with it's value, and they brought up the fact that we could have insured our valuable items, and when I told them no insurance was offered to me, the reply was "you have to ask for it, we don't offer it". I knew the desk and bookshelf could not be repaired, and didn't want more strangers coming into our home to attempt to fix the piano. We elected a $200 credit on a $500 move, however that doesn't account for a $900 digital piano that is now unstable and unusable until fixed, plus the unsightly damage to a brand new $400 desk. Frankly, all of this could have been prevented had they been more careful and professional with wrapping and moving the furniture. I would NOT recommend this company for your move. Lesson learned. read more

I needed to help my mom move and decided to put my best muscular effort forward and hire movers. Best decision of my life! At first you might think the cost of hiring movers is too pricey. Well by the time you factor in renting a U-Haul plus gas plus the insurance plus the donuts and pizza you buy to bribe your friends to come and help move your stuff even though they'll probably bump into freshly painted walls or drop that box marked fragile, paying movers will pay off in the end. Around the House movers were easy to book even during the same week and arrived on time just as promised. The three hour minimum was a perfect amount for what I needed to empty the storage unit and they even put up with my bad jokes. I had to make a quick change to my order due to rains (unable to move a piano through the mud) and they were very willing to adjust plans as needed. I'd use them again without a question. We used Around the House Movers for a move from Irvine (1400 sq. ft. 3-level townhouse) to Yorba Linda (1200 sq. ft. 1-level house). The crew (4) showed up a couple minutes early and were ready to get started right away. They all worked diligently throughout the day and had good attitudes throughout, especially when we were unloading and the boxes/items needed to be routed to different places, sometimes more than once. It was a long day (10 hours) and they did not slow down at all. Perhaps got a bit rushed as we got close to the end of the day. One item had some minor fixable damage but all else was handled gently. We had to have them make two trips, so that was a bit of a surprise. A slightly larger truck to begin with would have saved us the time and $$ spent in traffic on the 55. read more

I found those guys via yelp, got in touch with the owner Jole and set up sometime for them to give me a quote. Jole was very responsive and patient with all my questions. And I can confirm that my experience with them went well. The crew packed my stuff and did a very nice job. I hadn't realized that until I unpacked and saw how all my stuff was nicely wrapped in bubbles and paper. The move took a bit longer than expected - even though the guys were working hard and I could see that. The crew has all the professional equipment needed (dollys, blankets, wardrobe boxes, etc.) which is nice as all my things were transported safely to the truck. The guys also did a nice job securing all my stuff in their truck. The unloading went super fast and the team was very friendly. Even though I was super stressed, the team leader Giovanni was able to reassure me throughout the day, explaining me the next steps. I also have a very heavy piano and the crew was able to carry it safely to my new place. Kuddos! Tips: - I would recommend booking them in the morning instead of afternoon. Had Gio, Miza, and Efren come to help me with my recent move within the city. Originally Around the House Movers gave me a first appointment slot of 9am, but I needed to get out sooner. They made an 8am slot available, and then on the day of the guys actually came early! The crew did a quick walkthrough of the place and then got to work, wrapping stuff and bringing in wardrobe boxes. I had mostly packed boxes myself already, but moving from a 2-bedroom place still means I had a lot of stuff. The guys moved fast and filled up their box truck leaving only a couple feet in the back unused. They were very efficient and got everything loaded in about 2.5 hours. Would use them again.
