I needed to refill my propane tank and decided to try this spot after seeing it on Yelp rather than buying another tank at a gas station or Home Depot. The location is pretty easy to locate - it's in the back of a gas station. Drove right up to the attendee - pulled the tank from the trunk l, he refilled it and charged me $20 which I remember thinking was pretty cheap relative to what I've paid at the gas station but can't remember if it's a lot cheaper than hardware stores as well. The whole transaction has an old school vibe - and I dig it. Anyway, glad I found this spot and will be using mutual propane going forward.

Follow the "ENTER," sign around to the back. Great service & value!

As of late, I've been making weekly trips out to the Tustin/Santa Ana for business. The night before, I loaded up my empty propane tanks & was planning to get them refilled on my way back home @ a Shell gas station just down the hill from me. A neighbor said that he found them to be pretty reasonable; okay, cool. I've been using the grill more often since it has been so nice out but too warm to want to do any indoor cooking. As I was leaving my appointment, I thought, "Why not spin the roulette wheel of yelp* & see what turns up in the local area." So, here I am! You can't miss the building since there's only two on the lot. The Union 76, gas station on the left and Mutual Propane. Follow the painted road, "ENTER," & drive around to the back of the building. Me: Hi, do I need to park over there or do I drive up here? Jose: What do you need?... Me: A couple of tanks to be filled? Jose: Here, is fine. Photo - https://www.yelp.com/writeareview/biz/ippP5TFaZOrb3JBEwoYm1A?return_url=%2Fbiz%2FippP5TFaZOrb3JBEwoYm1A&review_id=K29eZ6bpbK7xeRKLEi8dnA 'And that was that! I took out my empty tanks, placed them on the make shift pedestals and less than ten minutes later, DONE! Easy puh'cheesy! Just the way I like it!! After spending a few minutes with him, it's easy to see why. As many others learned, such as I did today; propane tanks expire... Hmph, well what do ya' know?! Most tanks are stamped with a date/year and should be replaced every 12 years. Jose - https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/mutual-propane-tustin?select=HnbPNq85WEjMptyVy72OTw Just as I pulled up a regular had just rolled in behind me. He has been coming to Mutual Propane for over the past twenty years. It was like a group of friends standing around bs'ing... It reminded me of Hank, Bill, Boomhauer, & 'Rusty Shackleford,' standing in the alley; sipping beer & bad mouthing charcoal grills. LOL - Wait! Would that me me KAHN?!!! HAHA! (Sorry, if I lost some of you there, "King of the Hill," reference. - "Taste the meat not the heat.") You'd be hard pressed to find a tank for under $30; true story. (The customer behind me had recently replaced his tanks... 'From COSTCO.) 'And all at a very good price. Yelp* Check-In Offer: Get a small, extra discount with your check in. If you live nearby or know you're going to be in the area; this is the place to go for a propane refill. A big mahalo to Jose for his top notch service; keep up the great job! Be well, be safe. They never charged a Hazardous Materials charge for propane refills. To be clear, I didn't dispose of anything. I brought in my 20 gallon tank for a refill. I highly recommend going elsewhere as this makes the price of propane much higher than it should be. I paid $16.69 for 2.6 gallons of propane. Approximately $6.42 per gallon with their BS fee added. Prices are not low but not super high either; while this is no ARCO you should expect to pay a bit more for a place right by the freeway. Sometimes you pay for convenience. Though if you've signed up to be a Ralphs Club member you can get a 10-to-20 cent discount per gallon here. Service-wise, I would probably give this place a miss, though I can't say much about it since I haven't used anything there. The "food mart" is one of those super-small adjacent-to-a-workshop type places, that doesn't have much in the way of refreshment. I think they also do smog checks and other maintenance work on vehicles there. Other than that, you might be approached by the occasional panhandler since it is not located in the best of areas. They seem to generally be on top of that however. There are usually decent condition squeegees available for window cleaning as well.

My parents are gone now; but being a kid in that household with the pine smell was my favorite part of that holiday, even more than hearing the sappy Christmas songs like the Barking Dogs doing Jingle Bells and Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer (j/K). They had at least three types of pine trees including Noble Fir but I prefer the bushier stronger smelling Douglas Fir. There is one other type of tree that I once bought - forgot the name. It rarely dropped needles but the smell was weak. They are priced by height, and I always choose with one unbundled with string because they are usually fresher. I shake it, and pick one as symmetrical as possible and drop the tree to see how much needles drop. There are low long carts to haul your tree to the register and offer to cut the bottom to size and also allow for better absorption of water. Going on a week day afternoon 10 days before Christmas is my usual strategy. Borrowing a friends truck, we hauled it into the living room and decorated immediately adding lots of water daily and placed away from any heater vents. Check out was easy. 4 days after Christmas and tree still looks and smells great. I am conscious about sustainability issues, but a fresh Christmas tree is one time I will violate that over a fake tree. But I always look for a recycler to return my tree after the holidays.
