We found this storage unit business on-line and decided to go look at it this morning. From the moment we walked in Barbara and Jim were so hospitable helpful and really were interested in finding us the right storage unit for our needs. They went through their list of available storage units, and their prices were so fair, we found the storage unit. The area is very clean. It appears to be very safe and you could tell that Barbara and Jim take a lot of pride in being on site managers of the storage facility. They were very thorough explaining everything about the storage unit along with the rules and just overall 110% customer focused and kind. We have been using this storage unit for the past year (B104) and I have nothing but praise for this place. It is well maintained and kept--every time I arrive, the staff is always helpful (they even waive at you when you arrive at the gate). They are attentive and always professional--I am happy to keep my business here. Other storage facilities aren't up to par to this one--I drive between San Diego and this location often. I have been a customer at this location since 2003. At the end of November last year I received a phone message from an employee named April letting me know that due to heavy rain the roofs leaked. She needed me to come to check my unit for damage. My unit had a lot of water damage and most of my storage items were ruined. They moved me to another unit and told me I would get one month's rent-free. I left some trash boxes in the old unit at the end of the night bc they had locked everything up before I was done and I couldn't access the trash. The next morning I received a call from April to confirm that what I had left in my old unit was trash before they threw it away. She also told me that I would be getting TWO months free rent, instead of one month, due to how badly my things were damaged and having to move to another unit. Yesterday I received a notice stating I had received a late fee for not paying one month's rent. It also stated I needed to pay that late month's rent. I called today and spoke with Barbara. I let her know that I should not have received a late fee because I was told I would have two months of free rent due to water damage. Barbara looked at the notes on my account and only saw a credit for one month. She said that she needed to call corporate bc she was new and wasn't there when the water damage happened. She called me back to tell me that corporate said that they only give one month free and I needed proof in writing that I was told two months. She also said that April no longer worked there. I don't have anything in writing, I was told over the phone. Just like how I was told about the original one month free. She said that they will not be crediting me the second free month. I asked her who the manager there was and she said it was her. I asked her if there was anything she could do and she said no. I find it very hard to believe that she couldn't make her own decision, being the manager, and credit me the month. She told me I could call corporate and ask them. She gave me a phone number to call. When I called that number it went straight to a voicemail asking me to leave my flight number? It didn't even say what company the number belonged to. I called Barbara back and told her the number doesn't sound like it's for a storage company. She said that was the correct number and also gave me an email. I asked her to at least waive our late fee, which she did. I then had to pay the late month's rent over the phone in order to avoid this becoming a collection issue. I have been a customer of Stor-It for over 17 years and NEVER ONCE was late or missed a payment. They are basically saying I'm lying about the second month free because I don't have it in writing and will not honor what the employee at the time told me. Why would I make this up and all of a sudden not pay just one month's rent? I will no longer be a customer. I will be canceling my unit. The fact that they won't credit me one more month free, for someone who has been LOYAL to them for over 17 years, shows me that they do not care about their customers. This issue, to begin with, wasn't even my fault and I never once complained to them about how most of my items were ruined. With what is going on now in our world, small businesses need their customers. It's hard to support a business that doesn't honor their word and doesn't support their loyal customer. I'm sure they could care less that I won't be a customer anymore but they should care about honoring what they tell their customers. Make sure EVERYTHING they EVER tell you is in writing or it won't be honored!!!! read more

I was looking for a storage place close to home so I can store some items while sorting through others. This place is perfect! I stopped in and April and Gary were very knowledgeable and friendly. Gary showed me a couple different sized units, so I could get the feel of the actual space size versus just seeing the size on paper. There was no pressure to sign on the dotted line right away! They had a sale going on, quote me a rate that was good for several days, and let me decide what I needed to do. I am very happy I decided to store my items here! I feel my items are safe, I feel safe using the place, and everything is kept clean and in working order. The elevator is only for the cart with items on it, so I have to use the stairs, which is not a bad thing...I can say with confidence that April and Gary care about me and my health, as I am getting my aerobics going up and down the stairs! Overall experience has been absolutely awesome. The location is going to be perfect for me. Gary also helped me find the golf cart and the hand trucks so I can move my stuff easier. Their service and availability works for me. The only thing that bothered me was moving in the summer without AC in their storage area. It was hot and some guy kept blocking the lift. This storage place has recently done some upgrades to there units: including new service elevators, re-painting the trim, doors and unit numbers. This company gives a move in discount, discounts for paying for six months (two weeks free) or a year at a time (one month free). They have several unit sizes to fit your needs and the workers are very helpful getting you into a unit. When I was finished with my unit, the check out was easy. There were no questions about why I wasn't needing the unit anymore, just making sure I had emptied the unit, removed my lock, it wasn't a mess and that I was paid up. That is really as painless as it gets. read more

Their promotion is a ploy to reel you in. "$21 move in for any size." BUT WAIT! They don't tell you online that it's for LONG TERM leases. So $21 for the first month and then their regular month pricing for the subsequent months. How dumb is it that I only wanted storage for 2 weeks, but they wanted to charge me $116 instead of $132 which is their monthly rate. Oh what a discount! Yeah right... There are more storage companies out there with better promotion prices and you don't need to stay over a month to qualify for the promotion + complimentary truck rental for move in. To top off this review, I told the girl on the phone that I wasn't interested since I found a better rate. She kept being persistent about this location and their other locations for better pricing. Then she asked what company and when I didn't tell her which company she hung up on me. LOL. Where are your customer service skills at? Don't lease from this scam. read more

I have rented storage units at Stor-it Self Storage for over 20 years and finally reviewing. There have been multiple managers during that time and all have provided friendly and helpful service. They have always been responsible type people that I can trust and have peace of mind about my belongings stored there. The place is always kept freshly painted and clean. I know that is sometimes a challenge when strong winds bring leaves and debris swirling from everywhere, but somehow they clean it all up. Stor-it also maintains a safe environment so my wife feels comfortable anytime she goes there alone. I go there almost daily because I also have a unit for storing my business tools and supplies. Managers Jim and Barbara have been so friendly and always ready to help. I know my tools and personal items are safe with them watching over the property. The only thing that bugs me is periodic increases in rental fee, but just as any cost of living these days, everything eventually goes up. Raises Rent $150 In Less Than 6 Months My wife and I leased a 10x20 storage unit back in the Summer for $202 a month. Without any notice at all, they start charging us $350. CA Law requires at least 30 days notice which didn't happen and still would not refund me the extra charge. Not to worry, my bank took care of that. I work in property management myself and can tell you these crooks are not straight forward with you at pricing at all. Most reasonable places will increase based on a percentage instead of raising straight to market, and will give you closer to 60 days notice, and lastly would wait closer to a year to start raising at all much less this high amount. My advice is if you can lease somewhere else who will be more reasonable and grateful for your business, I would suggest going somewhere else. Sometimes leasing at the place across the street from your home is not always the best way to go. read more
