I recently rented a small storage unit to hold several boxes and some camping gear that I needed to store temporarily. About a month ago, the building had a sprinkler leak and there was a very slight amount of water on the floor of my unit. I was contacted promptly and encouraged to come check out my belongings. Fortunately, most of my items were in plastic tubs or were items not affected by moisture (camping cots, etc). The company that did the water cleanup/disinfecting repacked the items that were in cardboard boxes into brand new boxes for me. I compare this with another storage unit in RSM that I rented for several years. They had a significant flood that put several inches of water in my storage unit. I had to take a day off work to come clean and repack everything myself. Their staff seemed annoyed that I had a lot of questions about my damaged items. I didn't end up getting any sort of compensation, and they raised my rate right after the incident. Glad to have found a better storage facility! read more

We recently had to switch locations for our RV storage. We have family who had their RV at ExtraSpace Storage for years. And my neighbor also recommended them. After getting in touch with Matt, we were able to work out a spot and cost. Unfortunately, we had significant challenges getting in and out of the spot with some neighboring customers items so close. After chatting with Justin one weekend, we talked about an alternative option that might work better. He suggested we could try the new spot and see if it would work. We were concerned that the space was not quite long enough. A few days later, we moved the RV into the new spot and Matt joined us to give his blessing. We went from a completely frustrating, nerve wracking experience to being able to zip in and out without any problems at all. Matt and Justin were great to work with. We also have a small 5 x 10 unit that was super easy to set up and move into. We will most likely not keep that though because of the price increase. Overall, very happy with ExtraSpace. read more

I Am Furious!!!! I pay over $400 a month to store my Rv and pay for their insurance. My catalytic converter gets stollen only a couple months of being their and their damn insurance won't cover it. This is costing me $4,000 and 6 months without being able to use my Rv waiting for the part. You know what the cop says?? O ya this has been going on for years, they fixed the barbed wire and then the thief's cut it again. You would think after this continuing to happen for years they would do more than just fixing the barbed wire. I am furious this is not the last they will hear from me. read more

The prices are way cheaper than the public storage operation right next door. Just like most places they have both indoor and outdoor storage units. Plenty of space to maneuver a truck (in our case a moving truck) to haul junk (excuse me...valuable family heirlooms). If you're seeking a short term rental I definitely suggest one of the outside containers because it takes far less time to access (vs stairs and doors to buildings). The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and can be particularly useful in helping you decide which size storage unit would be best for your needs. I took off one star because some of the units were sadly in need of a refresh paint job. To be fair it looks like they just started repainting some of the units. read more

Extra Space Storage is an excellent facility, the one in Lake Forest, CA is well managed, clean, reasonably priced (for the short term) and easy to use. I rented a unit in May for $127/month. Only four months later they increased the rate to $207/month with no notice. Just charged my credit card. 63% increase in 4 months! When I called to question it, they said I must have gotten a special Internet rate. So? There was no mention that the special rate was only for 4 months when I moved in. They offered to reduce it to $170 but that's still 34% more than what I signed up for, so I told them I'll be moving out. What a pain in the butt. Get a rate lock if you decide to go there. read more

Two other of the men were great as well but I wanted to give Justin a personal nod. I have a very large unit and drive up access. This was essential, as I have a degenerative condition and need easy access and assistance. My rent has gone up - in my stay twice. However have worked with me as much as feasible. I have used Extra Space Storage since last June. Their service has been awesome. When i had a misunderstanding with the billing, they took care of it promptly. Now I can pay it manually and it's made it much easier. Today it was pouring rain and the customer service representative went out twice to help me make sure the gate would open properly. My only comment is that the price went up unexpectedly and I realized, it was nothing I could have anticipated when I opened my unit. The place is clean and well maintained. I have been using this storage facility for over 20 years. It's clean, and secure. The only problem here is they have become very greedy. One day a few months back my rent went from $360.00 to $460 over night. I wasn't notified before hand. I was set up on automatic payments. Suddenly it's $460. This is ridiculous. I understand that OC is expensive so I tolerated the $360. When the fee went to $460 without any warning it pissed me off. I gave them notice that I was vacating my spot. They said well we will reduce the fee back to $360. For me this made the situation even worse. Basically if I didn't move out or complain they are ok with ripping me off. Then when I went in to close my account they really got greedy. I owed for 45 days. My debit card number changed. So I missed a payment. They wanted late fees, some bullshit foreclosure fee, and six weeks of rent. . $970 for 45 days to move out. WTF. Also they would not credit me for the months that I over paid a hundred dollars a month. Beware of their greediness. These people have dollar signs for eyeballs. Store your stuff somewhere else, or watch your bank account daily. Good riddance to Extra Space Rip Off Storage. Oh, just for the record I only had a 25 foot exposed, and uncovered parking spot.
