I have used public storage over the last 10 years, in Valencia and Palm Desert and I have been a satisfied customer. However my experience at the Irvine Facility on Whatney was more than satisfactory. Journey answered a lot of phone calls from me and even met me at the unit to show me how to open it. I accidentally left a suitcase and two bags in front of the office. When I realized this, four hours later, I learned that Journey and her co-worker had retrieved my belonging, called me to leave a message and kept them secure until I arrived. Moving is a very stressful activity and the ladies at this facility are a pleasure to work with and made the experience much more tolerable. They are an exemplary example of exceptional customer service. Bernie JG. read more

It is incredibly easy for this place to be nice, welcoming, and professional when they want you to move in, but that professionalism completely vanishes the moment you decide to leave. I gave a proper notice to vacate and tried calling this facility several times to finalize everything. Because they refuse to answer their phones, I had to complete my cancellation through their automated system. I left multiple voicemails asking for confirmation, but no one ever bothered to call me back. Instead of processing my exit, they charged me for the entire month of May. I never received a single phone call, email, or notification about a pending balance. The very first "communication" I received was a notice from a collection agency. They made it completely impossible to reach them, ignored my automated cancellation, and then quietly sent me to collections without warning. It is completely unacceptable to tank a customer's credit score because your local staff refuses to manage their office or answer calls. I have a full paper trail of my notice, my automated cancellation, and my phone logs. Management needs to contact me immediately to pull this debt back from collections and correct their own administrative failure. Unresponsive, unprofessional, and deceptive. read more

I'm incredibly frustrated with how poorly Public Storage has handled what should be a very simple issue. I've always had my unit set up on autopay, but recently had to replace my card. I received notifications that my payment was late, so naturally I tried to log in, update my payment method, make the payment, and get autopay set back up. The problem? Their system apparently can't find my account. I've tried both the app and website using the SAME email address where Public Storage sends my statements and the SAME phone number they use to contact me about my account. Yet when I try to reset my password or receive a verification code, I'm told they can't find me in their system. Fine... so I called to simply make the payment over the phone instead. I was then told they couldn't take my payment over the phone either. So you can find my account well enough to email and text me that my payment is late, but somehow you can't find me when I'm trying to access my account, reset my password, update my card, or PAY YOU? I understand that my card needing to be replaced isn't Public Storage's fault. What is incredibly frustrating is how difficult they've made it for a longtime autopay customer who is actively trying to resolve the issue. If your online system fails to recognize a customer's information, there needs to be another reasonable way for customer service to help them regain access or accept payment. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops just to give a company money, especially while that same company is simultaneously notifying me that my payment is overdue. This has been handled incredibly poorly and has turned what should have been a five-minute fix into a completely unnecessary headache. read more

Scam Alert! Public Storage increased my rate after 4 months, an unbelievable 39%!! They advertise a deal to get you. Mine was a unit, "standard price" $184, but offered at $147. (The offer nor the contract says anything about this being a temporary deal.) The contract does say that they may increase rent at their wish. So after 4 months they raised the rent to $204. Not to their arbitrary "standard price" of $184, but $20 higher than that and $57 higher per month than the contract I signed just 4 months ago. For reference, the unit I had for 3 years previously at a competitor storage facility (but wanted to change bc farther from job) would increase every 12 months, between $5-$10 from the previous rate. I'm moving out and I urge you to avoid this facility for sinister business practice. Additionally, what others say about the staff being useless is also true, if they are even there when they are supposed to be. read more

Cindy at the front desk was so personable and helpful with my many questions. Love that this place is clean, air conditioned, quiet.

The property is clean and safe for the most part. The issue I have here is the rent goes up twice a year and has done so every year since I've had the unit in 2020. I would look for and will be looking for another unit because over $200 + for a 5x10 is ridiculous when they're offering units at $87 p.m. read more

This review is for the horrible service I received from the so-called young 20 front desk manager... Who hung up on me on the phone. When I signed up in person he didn't even know how to do my application and had to wait for another manager to come help him. So when I got a double charge for the same amount within five days of each other I was pretty mad about it. I called and he tried to explain to me that he's the manager and I said how can that happen when you told me you were just hired on a few days ago and you couldn't even fill out my information by yourself. Now they turn off my auto pay reversed my payment but I know I'm still gonna have to pay... He was super rude on the phone hung up on me and lied about being them. I know it's hard with Covid right now but you have to be able to hire better customer service when dealing with customers in person. read more

Super clean and very secure storage facility. They offer complimentary carts to help move your items from your vehicle to your storage unit. The interior is climate controlled so your valuables are safe and out of the elements. We have been storing our stuff here for about 4 years now and recommend this facility to anyone who is in need of a safe storage company. read more

What a joke--this facility looks nice on the outside and in, but be warned, they have a serious robbery problem, know all about it and do nothing including HAVING NO SECURITY CAMERAS INSIDE THE BUILDING. Our unit was broken into 2 weeks ago. The thieves rifled through our stuff, then put their own lock on the door so they could come back later and open it at will. Most people do not visit their unit very often and all a thief has to do is rent a unit to get full access to the entire indoor storage facility, where, for the most part, owners are not around often, making for prime thieving opportunities. The day my wife found our unit had been broken into, she had to pay for a locksmith to cut the lock because Public Storage won't allow renters to cut off locks themselves, even if a stranger puts one on your unit. While she was waiting, noticed 2 suspicious individuals hanging around in a car in the secure access only parking lot for the next two hours, while she waited for the locksmith to arrive to cut the thieves' lock off the unit--which she had to pay for even though it's also Public Storage's facility that is being robbed. The police questioned the 2 men and let them go, but their whole behavior with the break in evidence was too much. The single customer service agent at the front desk was not only unhelpful after reporting to him that the unit had been broken into, but extremely rude. What is going on here? Because there are no security cameras and there has never been any security or employees walking the facility that I have seen, bad guys know there is no security. After our unit was broken into and the Irvine police came, they told us that this facility has regular burglaries of units. The thieves do not get caught therefore they continue to steal unimpeded. Public Storage, for some inexplicable reason, does nothing about it. Why wouldn't a huge corporation like Public Storage put security cameras in the halls, in range of all the units? Security systems are relatively cheap and there are no good reasons why they shouldn't do it. We took our things out of there and will not patronize Public Storage again. read more

The people at this location are generally welcoming. But is seems that there is a corporate training or some form of policy to be very negative and strict and treating people like they are trying to scam them. There is a lot of bait and switch with prices and promotions and they are trying to maximize every dollar out of consumers. Prices are increased periodically from 15-40% without notice and there is nothing you can do about it. Not sure if other storage locations are better or worse, but is seems that this is a business knowing that people have little choice to move-out when dissatisfied and they abuse this to their benefit. read more

Jennifer was amazing. She gave 5 star Service .I'm so thankful!!!!!I'm you need anything ask for Jennifer.

Read up read up before you rent a unit at any public storage! I have been a client of theirs for 4 years plus. I understand increases in rent and I am all for businesses needing to do that but take a look at these increases. At a time when inflation and recession is hitting our economy, you would think that a large company like public storage would factor that in with price increases. A 10-15% increase - I get it! A near 27% increase!!!!???? And zero notifications beforehand? Unacceptable! Is it even legal to just increase rent without prior notice? I called the main public storage line and was told that they had requested a decrease in my rate 12 mths ago when they tried to raise my rent by 37% - yes you are reading right! 37%!!!!!! What the heck!? Prior to my rate increase that is taking place on 2/1 (no notification sent to me) to $265, they tried to increase it by 37% until I complained about that and they requested for the increase to be reversed. in fact, I clearly remember that when I called in, the lady who answered immediately told me to ignore the increase and they will keep my rate at $195.00/mth. It was an immediate reversal, which tells me they even know that was wrong to do that. Take a look here: 3/20/2019 -$89.00 starting rate 8/5/2019 - $117.00 (24% increase) 8/4/2020 - $128.00 (8.6% increase) 8/2/2021 - $147.00 (12.9% increase) 2/2/2022 - $195.00 (26.6% increase) 2/1/2023 - $265.00 (26.4% increase) When I called in to the main number this time, I was told that my contract indicates clearly that they can raise the prices whenever they want. Is that how @PublicStorage treats customers? It's incredible how they are absolutely taking advantage of people during tough times. If anything, they should have increased my rate prior to the pandemic not during. Not good business practice and zero empathy for what's going on in the world today. I wanted to share this with all who are contemplating a storage unit. I don't usually share negative reviews, but this time, I feel it is important to share with others so they are aware before they put their stuff into storage. No storage is better than having one but changes happen in life where you do need storage for some reason, then you must be aware of potential increases at these extremely high rate changes! I can't complain about the employees, as they are very nice at the location and they are very friendly but they have nothing to do with the rates! So go easy on them. They are just doing their job. But public storage needs to pay attention to this review and so do consumers. For a large company like public storage- this is just not good business practice and embarassing! Be consistent with your price hikes and not increase prices so frequently and at such high rates. This is like daylight robbery with lack of empathy for everyone's situation! read more

Last thing. I moved out 1/3 of the way through the current period. They do not tell you that the will not credit you for the extra time they have the storage space. Monthly rate goes up after certain amount of time. DO NOT use this storage as they spike up their rates at their discretion. Initially my bill was $90 a month. Have been storing at this location for 3 years. Service was decent at first but seems to have changed dramatically within the past 6 months. The "after-hours" access that made this place attractive in the first place is virtually non-existent. You can now only access the foyer with the keypad code. The elevator is turned off, even though there is a keypad for customer access. The flat carts are chained up and useless. Access to stairwells is blocked. As a customer I would have appreciated an email explaining Public Storage's draconian change in policy prior to experiencing a needless waste of my valuable time and resources. Good location, great front desk staff, building is secured by cameras for safety along with key pad access to actual units. On-site resident manager. Rate increases are scheduled based on promotional pricing after 6 months. Consider avoiding promotional prices if long term for lower price increase or downsize. There is ample parking both in front and in secure gating on the side. Will receive one payment courtesy call but don't expect every month. The do sent invoice reminders via email. Renters will sometimes block walkway, leave doors open, etc. Cannot control people but in general most stay within their unit. Its a storage, don't expect assistant living. read more

Lizette and the manager, Abdul, are so friendly and accommodating. They were able to help us with our situation with our movers that were arriving 10 hours later than scheduled by providing us access to our storage unit after 9pm. Robert (when not taking a nap) is also very helpful and knowledgeable. The facility itself is clean and well lit unlike other storage facilities. They also have 3 carts downstairs which is also really helpful when moving. Overall, I would highly recommend this facility to anyone who is looking for extra storage. A must read!! Sorry it's long - Absolutely horrendous online and office service!! I booked a 8x10 unit for $101, DOWNSTAIRS, an online sale. I called and was told by Guy, manager at Laguna Woods location Friday that it would be ready Monday. My treasure for our club went Saturday to pay in full for a year. Girl at the counter was clueless and he was turned away EVEN having my emailed PS reservation and price. I called her, and again - not a clue. I called twice Sunday, Guy returned my call to say they rented my unit to someone else, mistakenly. I asked for another, and was told I had to find another, as he had a smaller one for MORE money! I asked him to speak with his district manager, as he said he could not adjust the price. I received an email/text stating the new price of $89 FOR THE THIRD FLOOR UNIT! I was happy thinking they made up for their mistake. My treasurer went in and paid for the YEAR - but was given the higher price!! Deplorable system! The manager Guy, is kind and professional, but should have, after I thanked him for the new, lower price - NOT charged us the higher price!! RENTER BEWARE! The pricing is still not finalized!! read more

This review is specifically for front desk manager Jennifer at 6 Whatney, Irvine location. I have been using this location for number of years. I have to say Jennifer is an awesome manager. She has all the qualities of a good manager, definitely an asset to any company to have her as an employee. read more

Dishonest, rude and unprofessional. The staff here has been trained to be extra rude and unhelpful. They make it painfully obvious that they are on commission to sell you all the extras. Every interaction we've had with them has resulted in discourteous, lackadaisical and downright rude service. My first interaction which was a big warning sign was when they tried to slip by and charge me the full rate even though I booked my unit online and had an appointment. I had to stand there and argue with the rep who even had to call in the manager. They tried to fight me about the prorated rent bc I didn't start on the first of the month. The rep claimed they didn't do prorated rent. That was unbelievable- so if I start on the 27th of the month a customer has to pay for the full month? Their equipment is also terrible- the pulley carts don't work and they don't care if you tell them. Finally- they claim they have temp controlled storage. It most certainly is not- it is a furnace in there with poor ventilation, so be prepared to sweat it out whenever you are in there. Dishonest, rude and unprofessional. Cannot downgrade their rating enough. Do not trust these high ratings. read more

Nice enough location, clean and orderly. However, today I went in with a car load of items to put in my storage locker and noted that there were no carts. Granted there were a few others there as well, doing the same thing as I was doing, but still, its a huge facility, you would think they would have a few more carts. I mentioned to the staff in the office that a few additional carts would be nice. They told me that they once had 40+ but they got stolen and now they are down to just a few. I suggested that they therefore may wish to consider getting some more (and doing something to manage the theft issue). To this suggestion, they responded; the carts are there as a courtesy anyway, implying that they didn't really have a responsibility to provide carts to their customers. To me it would be like a grocery store that had no carts saying; well the cart are a favor we do for the customer, but its not something we owe the customer...true, but how long would such a grocery store stay in business? This company apparently does not seek excellence...they apear have a "good-enough" management philosophy. This facility tends to be fairly full and their attitude towards customer service is reflective of the comfort that high vacancy rate create. This is a nice enough facility, but you may wish to look around first, to see if you can find a company that acts more like they value your business. read more

I'm going through a horrible divorce and had to move out of my house and put my stuff in storage. When I called to get a unit I was told that a 5 X 10 would be big enough for the amount of stuff I had. When I arrived to the property the unity was very hard to find and extremely small. I called to see if they had a larger unit I could transfer to and they couldn't accommodate me. I told them I wanted to cancel the unit and they informed me I had to go into the office to cancel. They were going to be closing soon and I needed to find a new storage to move my stuff into, so I told them I'd be in the next day to cancel. I received a phone call the next morning from the lady in the office and she told me they were unable to refund me my money even though they were unable to accommodate me with a bigger unit. I'd recommend finding a facility that is going to be fair. Im a single mother being financially abused by my ex and I dont have $100 to throw away on a storage unit that I am not using. read more

Pro: -MICK is awesome! He showed me the facility, location of the unit, the best available rate unit that they had. He was very patient in explaining how stuffs work as well as what would fit in the size I would choose. -The facility is well-kept, secured, and climate-controlled, which helps a lot with moving in this scorching weather. -The hours for gate access is pretty good (6 AM - 9 PM every day), which beats most Storage Facilities in the area. Cons: -There are not enough security cameras in the Hallway where Storage units are. (There are only a few cameras where the office is.) -The amount of Dolly: on a very busy weekend, there is no dolly available. For the amount of storage units here, there should be more dollies to work with. Especially for people who pay Movers to move their stuffs like I do, every minute counts and I need a big Dolly for the job done fast. Note: -It is now required to leave your ID/ Driver License with the office staff while you use the Dolly (which is completely OK with me). -Things I didn't think about other than Unit rental cost: Insurance fee (monthly, lowest amount is $11), Administration fee (one time: $24), lock purchase (one time: $21.59 after tax). read more

I would put zero stars if I could. Run away from this place and don't turn back. Any place is better than this place. I have my unit at the Whatney location and these people don't care about anybody, but themselves. With millions of people out of work due to Covid-19, they will still charge you late fees and give you lock-out notice if you don't pay. They gave an extension for March until the end of the month, but still charged a late fee. that's it. After that you better pay on time. No more extensions. Who knows when this pandemic will last? I have been renting space for 3 years and never had anything but good experiences from staff (generally). Then I wanted to change spaces and due to lack of communication things were not conveyed to me based on assumptions (making an assumption is making an ass out of you and me). I wasn't told about having to give notice etc and appropriate questions were not asked when making a reservation. even when I called the district manager she was just as overly aggressive as her employee Kelly. Kelly went as far as probing me on asked if I had called corporate and I had to tell her to back off, causing the tension to even escalate further. It wasn't until Jennifer had told her to step away that the tension subdued slightly. in all my time there I have never been treated horribly. I had plans of staying longer term but after today I will never set foot in another public storage again and will tell all my friends and family not to come to public storage. I always pay my rent on time and have never given them reason to not take the extra 1-2 min to ask the questions to make sure I am getting what I am getting what I want. that's what customer service is about not just about making a quick sale and making the money. not to mention that they had a leak right above my unit 2 years in a row and they called me to see if anything had been damaged. they told me they were to fix it the first year which is why it was surprising to me and frustrating when I got a call with the same exact problem the next year read more
