I have 3 storages at the office at Research drive in Irvine. I went there today because I have gotten a note about my costs going up. I wanted to find out how I could close my storages and when I could do it. The gentleman who helped me and his name is WAYNE RIEVE, checked my account and told me I could move my stuff from the 3 storages and put them in one that is 10*10 and it would fit all my stuff for a lot less money. I asked how much and the cost was so much better that shocked me beyond belief. I immediately told him I will not move my stuff out and will take the new storage place. Mr. WAYNE RIEVE is truly a fantastic agent of yours and not only he convinced me to stay but he was treating me like a family member. Please acknowledge him for how wonderful a professional he is and I would be honored to do anything additional that you need me to do. God bless him and all of you. read more

Went to pay my storage today after being 2 mo. behind, I figured ok I'll pay the late fee, mind you the storage fee is $140 mo. Used to be $108 after taxes. 8 mo. In, I'm at $140 which they told me wouldn't increase and if it did, a couple of bucks. Anyway that's another story. So figure with the late fees, I'm looking at $320, right? No, $497.00 with some damn auction fee of $120 they applied, which was never revealed or explained to me at signing of my contract. Which was partially my fault as well, gotta hate fine print. Long story short, short story shorter! I asked the Team leader TOM JOHNSON could he help me out with this ridiculous fee, he said no, and no one else will remove it either. I told him I don't have a problem paying my late fees, but the auction fee, no. I said ok is there someone else I can talk to besides you, he said no. I said well can I get your regional number, he said no. I asked why? He said because you don't need it, you can talk to us. I told him we're clearly not getting anywhere buddy is why I want your regional number. He refuse to give me the number or even trim to compromise with me. So if anybody thinking about storing their stuff there, DONT!!!! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and LIE thru their teeth. Your rent will increase within 6 months guaranteed! And whatever you do, if you do, stay away from TOM JOHNSON!!!! Totally unprofessional, no people person skills, just need to retire! But I don't think he has a choice! That's my story, BEWARE!!!! My girlfriend moved her stuff into a space here when we moved in together. They increased the rental rate for the space after only 30 days by over 25%!!! After speaking to a manager they agreed to a 10% increase but came calling again the following month with another increase. This is a deceptive leasing practice that serves their profits over doing what is right for their customers. I LOVE the cleanliness and that's what kept me there so long. It sucks that the rent starts so low to get you hooked and then they double it super fast! Highly recommend this storage. Location is convenient. Building is new and clean. People working there are kind and professional. I talked to Hala and Wayne before renting a unit here. Hala and Wayne are very friendly and helpful. When my unit's rent started I came over to see the space. Hala and another gentleman Mike were here. Hala went above and beyond. She walked with me to my unit to show me how to use the code and how to open/lock the storage unit. Mike helped me to load the boxes/material. Today ( July 1) is the actual moving day. Wayne and Hala helped movers to park and provide them moving carts for them to transfer stuff. They made the move easier. What a pleasant experience! :) my husband and I were looking for our first public storage ever and we were pleasantly surprised how accommodating, knowledgeable and friendly front office was. Hala was willing to find solutions for us plus we have the same initials so that is Universe talking that we must store our things there hehe ;). Ever since the fires in the area I thought I really needed a storage unit in case I'd ever have to evacuate. I came across Extra Space Storage on Yelp of course!! I called to ask about the different size units available and pricing. I got a very good price on my 5'5' temperature controlled unit. The lady was very friendly and patient with all my questions. I went in the following day and the gentleman walked me over and showed me where my unit was located and how to use the lock that comes with the rental. Very convenient!! You can also purchase storage boxes of all sizes from the main building as well. This place is super clean!!! It's well lit and pretty secure! There's dollies available at the entrance of the building you can use as well. read more

Just moved out of my storage unit at Extra Space on Research. I was hesitant to put my stuff here because I saw other reviews about rodents. Thankfully this wasn't the case for me and I actually had a great experience. Raul and Hala in the office were super helpful and friendly! I had this storage for about 5 months. The place is well lit and the section my unit was in was super clean. My unit was inside on the first floor and there was no dust dirt or damage to any of my belongings. I moved my stuff out in the same condition I moved them in. Convenient location also. My only recommendation is if you get a good entry deal try and pre pay as many months in advance at that rate because that will keep the rate the same. I prepaid and the rate stayed the same but then stayed longer than anticipated and got a big increase. Overall good experience. read more

So my review is good and bad. When I found the storage unit they had an amazing price online, and I paid for 6 months upfront. Once that was over they doubled my rent. Other than that it was great, it is clean, easy to park and I had no trouble using their carts. The huge price increase made me switch storage units. If I knew this before moving in, I would have looked elsewhere. I ended up in a slightly larger unit with drive up access for a little more and it will hopefully not have a huge increase in a few months, or hopefully I will not need the storage anymore by then. The hours to enter the storage area were good and other than the huge increase it was a nice place read more

This used to be a great storage facility, but with each passing year the facility upkeep gets worst and worst. The company never fails to raise the rent, but can't afford to have a soap dispenser, paper towels, or toilet paper consistently. I have several pictures over the last year of how dirty the bathrooms are. It disgusting. Since the facility open they have had 2 managers that maintained the property very well. Since the first two not once has it been kept I. The same manor. I've been renting since 2018 and for a long time customer enduring all the rent hikes this is shameful and the employees should not just sit in the office. They should get out & walk the property everyday the way it was always done before. read more

DO NOT RENT FROM EXTRA SPACE. Updated: I am working with the manager at my location. I am hopeful they will be fair. I will update this post. Be aware to read the contract. It states MAY increase but then they tell you it was a promo rate and will expire. Make sure you are made aware of what the "real" price will be. The Web rate does not say this! Also, they will pressure you to sign saying it's the "last unit"! This was not true. There were 3 other vacant units my size when I moved in. If you need long term..look for a storage facility that will do a year lease or agree to lock rate. I Beware of false and unfair pricing practices here! I rented a unit just 2 months ago for 360 a month. It was not a 50% for 1st 2 months deal and now on the 3rd month they raised it to &469. I am on a fixed budget right now and this is just wrong. I had my belongings in LA and moved them to be closer and to save money. I spent a little of money to move so that I could save only to be gouged. My storage in LA never raised my price in 2 years. I need long term storage so this puts me in a terrible position. I am going to file a repost with BBB as this is a terrible business practice. We as consumers need to trust who we do business with. We are getting squeezed on everything. And will remove this post if this company does the right thing. I expect a small cost of living increase maybe after a year ...but 25% after I just rented is deceptive and plain wrong. read more

You can find my previous review where I was super happy about my experience and I came back here to rent again because if it but this place has gone downhill. It really went from a 5 star to a 1 star. 1. Staff is nowhere near as friendly. They seem reluctant to even show me storage I wanted to rent. Secondly, when I asked to sign up in person, the representative kept telling me to do it online as it's much easier he claims (perhaps it's easier for him). Eventually I kind of forced it on him that I wanted to sign up and then he told me I wouldn't be getting the online pricing and the specials are different. E.g. my unit was only $37/month online but in person he claimed I would get first month off and then pay $58 a month. I finally caved and signed up online as I planned to stay for a few months at the minimum and $37/month would've been better deal. 2. The payment no longer starts on the day you sign up. They pro rate until end of the month and you start paying at the 1st of every month. If you want to move out on the 7th of a month, prepare to pay a whole month worth (previously they would've pro rated it). 3. Now the absolute WORST part of it all, is that I was only a month and a half in and I get a letter about raising the rent! Going from $37/month to, you probably guessed it, $58/month. So, they basically raised it on me as soon as they could and we're talking over 56% raise here. Not only that, had I signed up in person as I originally wanted, I would've gotten a better deal. Basically this company uses shady tactics like bait and switch on you. Of course now that I'm in, I probably won't bother switching to something else as I don't have the time for it and I don't plan to stay that long. Oh and beware of the homeless who started to roam these buildings and tailing you to try and enter the buildings. Do NOT recommend this place. read more

AVOID, CHRISTMAS RUINED!!!!! If you lease units on the 2nd floor you will be randomly locked out of access to 2nd floor units (elevators shut down and stairwell doors locked). On 12/24 at 3:30 in the afternoon I went to my storage unit to retrieve my child's Christmas presents and could not access the 2nd floor. I am fully current on all my payments (I have 3 units there), I have video showing my code being put in and the words "ACCESS GRANTED" coming up on the elevator only to have the doors never open, all the stairwell doors to 2nd floor locked and no one answering the intercom or the phones. My child woke up to NO PRESENTS. I went back on 12/25 and the situation remained the same. There *was full access to all units on the first floor but zero access for customers on the 2nd floor. Mind you this is the SECOND TIME this has happened here. The first time was the day I was moving and cost me a lot of money and was a complete stress bomb. They get you to rent from them with teaser rates for 2 months then DOUBLE the price once you're moved in. The people in the leasing office are very nice, but the company itself, it's policies, and upper management are nefarious. read more

This storage unit is nothing more than a rodent hotel!!! I'm not exaggerating one bit . This place has had multiple infestations and they offer insurance but it only covers 10k . Unfortunately, the damage I had far supersede 10K. I realize that we live in nature and that there can be pest problems, but renters should be warned if there is an infestation and major problem going on so they can do due diligence to protect their unit . The unit in reference to this picture is an indoor climate control that I pay almost $700 a month for. Beware make sure you factor in additional insurance policies if you have more that 10k in valuables in your unit . Storage facilities are not liable for damages under contract however when there is gross negligence like in this case under California state law they are liable . Honestly I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. read more

Since August of 2022 that I've had this ES Storage, the staff have been more than accommodating and friendly. I gave a review last year for a Gaby and Raul who helped me out last year when I signed for a storage. I'm giving another one this year for an assistance on the phone with Hala, one of the managers in Irvine location. She was friendly, helpful, and tried to accommodate my immediate need. Just rented a unit so this review may be premature and we will have to see how it goes, but so far so good. The facility is super clean, it seems like a secure location and the price for my unit was fair. I did run I into an issue on day 1 that left me annoyed, but that feeling quickly went away. I rented on a Sunday when the office was closed and even though the instructions stated that the unit was available to open, when I got there it was locked. This frustrated me because I only drove out because of those instructions. Right as I was about to call on Monday morning, Ryan called to check-in and see if any information was needed or if I had questions. When I told him about the unit being locked, he explained how it was an error and how he would solve it immediately. That type of response really put me at ease! I get unexpected errors happen and I'm just super content knowing that the individuals who work here are so prompt, responsive, and kind. It means the world these days!! read more

I could not have had a better experience renting from Extra Space and the staff in particular at the Irvine Research Drive location. From the friendliness, availability and knowledge of the staff, the cleanliness and order on the premises, to the ease and speed of the rental documentation process, I'm just a bit speechless. A challenging experience led me to find this storage option, and I am forever grateful that Extra Space and it's staff did not add to that challenge. Instead I was brought joy and relief.
