This is not the place to go if you want a speedy dinner, but the food is worth the wait, and the atmosphere is pleasantly but not obtrusively LT trendy. This was our first visit to Boston, and the Yelp review average almost scared us off. I'm glad we took the chance. We came in with our kids, but after having been, I would say it is definitely geared more toward adults even though the staff were friendly and the menu stacked with dishes appealing to young palates. We would definitely bring friends and dine at Estella's on our next visit to Boston. Everything was so yummy that we had a hard time stopping even after we were full, but the lobster Mac and cheese and prosciutto gnocchi were truly stand-outs. Took 9 minutes for anyone to greet us. It then took an additional 11 minutes for our waitress to take our drink order. The servers did more chit chatting than actual working. A different server brought our drinks, a different man brought our food. Our waitress did not check on us until we were done and needed the check. This was such a horrible experience. The chicken mushroom pasta was so watery and there were 5 tiny tiny pieces of chicken in the pasta. The mashed potatoes were great and so was the taste like candy cocktail. We had an after theater dinner reservation at 10pm this past Sunday. When we arrived at about 9:50 the place was roaring with thunderous music and packed for a private party. No one mentioned this at the time of reservation and there was no way we were going to stay. How incongruous with what we'd read on the menu. Wouldn't trust the food at all in this place. Our only other choice within walking distance was late night menu at JM Curley. Not the chef-inspired meal we'd planned, but very friendly and welcoming. This place changed my life. I first went with a friend after work because it was a short distance from both of us. I got the mushroom raviolis and my life was changed forever. I brought my friend for her 30th birthday, got the mushroom raviolis again because my body needed them. Also had the Yuka fries, the best thing (besides the raviolis) that I've ever eaten. Last night, I brought my fiance there because I've been dreaming of the mushroom raviolis and yuka fries for a month at this point. I didn't even tell him we were going. I made the ressy and had him pay. It was great. I'll spend the next dozen nights dreaming of those mushroom raviolis until I can force another friend to come with me. I came here for a dinner reservation on a Saturday night. Ambiance and music were great, decorations were nice and we were seated downstairs. Service was a bit slow and we were provided QR codes to scan for the menu. My friends and I were not interested in drinking alcohol so we all ordered mocktails straight off their mocktails menu. The drinks arrived and they tasted like they could have alcohol. After about 3-4 sips, I started feeling extremely warm and my toes began to tingle. I knew something wasn't right. I alerted our server who indicated that the bartender made the drinks per the "slip" and confirmed there shouldn't be any alcohol in them. A few minutes later she came back and gave us brand new drinks just to be safe. These drinks this time around tasted completely different. They had made a mistake. Luckily none of us were pregnant. The appetizers were delicious. We got yucca fries and the Thai chili wings. Yucca fries were my favorite. They were hot and crispy. I got the lamb lollipops for my entree. These were 1/10. They were certainly on the smaller side, overcooked (I asked for medium rare) and they were served on a bed of what seemed to be frozen/microwaveable veggies (broccoli, carrots, etc). The broccoli reeked and had an awful smell to them. You could tell they were definitely not fresh. Mash potatoes were good. They were served with some sort of chocolate gravy sauce which was NOT good. I'm not sure who in their right mind would pair these two together? It was like having dessert with my entree...very bizarre. When it came time to pay, we were handed the electronic pin pad to pay right at the table. I was a bit confused why the bill was so high and why the tip option was showing only 7%, 6% or 5%. I always tip 20% everywhere I go regardless of service. After trying to play with it for a minute to change it to 20%, that's when the server decided to speak up and inform me that 20% gratuity is already included and anything additional is what I'm seeing on the screen. My friends who already paid didn't know and ended up tipping extra on top of that. Criminal. Overall, if you're looking for drinks, a light appetizer and moody/trendy scene, this might be a good spot, but overall I wouldn't come back. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. My girlfriend and I went here on a date night and we were completely shocked at both the awful service and the completely lackluster food. Our server, bless her heart, got both our drinks and our food orders wrong, and we were even served our food before our drinks (which were two cokes, so I'd hope not too difficult to make). The food was just... so not worth the price in a million years. We each paid $32 for our entrees and my girlfriend's "sticky" ribs were truly some of the worst I've ever seen. They were lukewarm, they had practically no sauce on them, and she had to rip them off the bone they were so difficult to get off. Like I mentioned, they also messed up her order and didn't bring the mac and cheese she asked for out until we were both done with all of our food and drinks. We had vegetables in both of our dishes, and I'm not kidding you guys, these were literally steamed frozen vegetables from a bag. How do I know? Well, because I've made them before. No seasoning, just steamed enough to not be frozen but still definitely crunchy... we were amazed and had to just accept it as a bit at a certain point. I'd probably give this place a 3 if it was just the food we had to worry about, but the service here truly plummets it into 0 territory. Shortly after we got seated, they turned up the music pretty loud behind us, sort of to the point where we didn't want to be difficult and ask to turn it down but it was clearly getting in the way of us being able to talk and think. When our server took our orders, we asked if it would be possible to turn the music down and she said of course and that she would ask. Spoiler alert, it never got turned down. I don't think she ever asked. We didn't get checked up on once while we were waiting for our orders or after they got there, so we couldn't ask about it again or about her missing mac and cheese. When we did finally get the mac and cheese after we were done with everything else, we asked to just get it taken off of the bill because it wasn't worth it at that point and we had gotten such poor service. And here's the grand finale of our night: when we asked this to the food runner who brought it out, she gave us the most annoyed, indignant look I feel like she was capable of mustering, and didn't say one word to us. Just walked away. We both just looked at each other in shock and laughed at that point because what else are you gonna do. Another server, Mark, ended up apologizing to us and gave us the bill with his name on it, so I don't really know what happened there, but Mark was the only redeeming part of this night. I wish that was enough to make up for the experience to warrant a bigger tip from us, but alas. TLDR don't go here, especially for a date night. Maybe recommend it to someone you hate. read more

My friend and I were wandering around the city on a rainy Monday night looking for a place for dinner. So glad we found this place. The staff (manager, host, hostess, wait staff) all were very friendly! The bang bang cauliflower with Thai chili sauce caught my eye immediately-- figured it wouldn't be enough for a whole meal so I ordered a side of Mac and cheese. I was wrong-- haha-- I think it was an entire head of cauliflower lol -- cooked perfectly, light better, delicious sauce!!! The Mac and cheese was creamy and cheesy and yummy (but most of it will be today's lunch) my friend got the SV chicken mushroom pasta and it was delicious. We really wanted dessert but were stuffed. So we left, did some holiday shopping and walking around for a couple of hours but person we were picking up want ready-- want to go? Go back to Estella and get dessert! The staff loved that we came back and were again very friendly and welcoming especially Mark and the host (whose name I didn't get but I think it was his first night). Estella was exactly what we needed, exactly when we needed them! After a painfully underwhelming evening at Barbra Lynch's No 9, where we left in the middle of a four course chef's tasting--costing me $800-we were still famished. By luck and happenstance, some folks mentioned that Estella was new and worth a shot. We Uber-ed there and the welcome we received was sincere and delightful. We got a table upstairs and ordered about five items and four cocktails as quickly as anybody has ever ordered -having just left an evening of fine dining. The grilled pulpo was incredible, a restaurant manager with whom we were dining said it was the best he's ever had. The Mussels were great, the sauce was a bit thick, but still enjoyable. The Burrata was fine and well portioned. The garlic roasted Brussels were over cooked and soupy, but not terrible. Our Mezcal cocktails were fantastic! As a celiac diner, I can be a wicked pain in the ass, a fact for which I am consistently apologizing to servers. On this occasion, our server was informed and prepared to accommodate every question I had. Our food was served by the restaurant manger and our server together. (Go team!) Both conveyed a genuine investment in the substitutions they made on my behalf and the accommodations they provided (including GF bread) without my ever asking. Estella is wildly impressive!! I would say my experience at Estella was more of a 3.5 but they're a newer business so I'm rounding up. I made a 5pm reservation for 4 at Estella before a show. We were seated immediately when we arrived and the hostess was very friendly. Ambiance is a little trendy, a little modern. Music and conversation volumes were lively but not so loud that you can't hear the people in your group. I was glad to see that they had some NA beers available on the menu (dry January) so that was a big perk. Waters were refilled regularly but they did come automatically with plastic straws which I hate to see. The food was definitely the highlight of the meal. Two of us had the filet mignon and it was so, so good. Juicy, flavorful, and it paired great with the mashed potatoes and crispy onions it comes with. I would absolutely order this dish again. The others in our group got the fish tacos and the fajitas and both were very good as well. Our biggest issue was how long food took. We placed orders pretty soon after sitting since we had a show to get to (which we told our server) and it was still 30-40 minutes until the first entree arrived. I say 'the first entree' because the food came out at all different times. We got one entree, 15 minutes later one more, 20 minutes later the last two. Of course we encouraged the folks whose food came first to eat before it got cold but that ultimately meant they were done before the last entrees even got to the table. That is a major kink management and the kitchen needs to work out. I do look forward to returning though for the delicious food. read more

We stopped here for Dine Out Boston 2024, and I was really excited about trying this place! For my appetizer, I ordered the coconut shrimp. For my entrée. I ordered the short rib mash and for dessert the Bundt cake. I also ordered though Margarita flight. It was a very crowded and busy Friday night, so we really didn't get to interact with our server often. Especially during the end of our dinner where we served our desserts without any utensils. The margarita flight was tiny. I expected something different. The food was not as tasty as I would expect it to be. The BBQ sauce on the short ribs were overwhelming and took away from the dish. What a find! This place has it all: ambiance, great service, & great food. A perfect place to dine before your show in the Theatre District. Started off with a Turn Up the Heat! cocktail which is essentially a spicy margarita. So good I had to have another. Next was the Red Pear & Goat Cheese Salad which I chose to add grilled shrimp to; it had a tangy dressing that was fantastic. Finally, CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE DESSERTS?? Our table of three split the Dulce Del Leche Lava Cake which was decadent and to die for, the perfect combo of sweet and salty, as were the Churro Waffles. Kudos to the pastry chef! My family went to Estella's last night for dinner. My nephew had the filet, my niece had the pesto chicken pasta, I had the the stuffed pork chop. The food was delicious but the timing of food to table was horrible. First it took over 35 minutes to get two of the four meals we ordered. My niece and nephew were almost done eating by the time my sister and I got our food. The manager only apologized and didn't make any effort to remedy the situation. It is definitely more of a club vibe and smells like stale beer. I wouldn't Recommend. read more

The staff was so friendly that I hate having to write this review. It was approximately 9pm and our food had yet to be out. At around 9:20 the food was being brought up the stairs by another waiter, but our waiter decided to intercept and grab the food. The food was dropped by our waiter. It was sad to see the food on the floor. It looked so good too and I was disappointed that she grabbed the food to cause it to drop. She apologized and said she would have the kitchen staff make another but at that time it was 9:25 and having to wait was just not an option. We left.
