Love this place. I come often. I love their breakfast burritos. I add hash browns inside my burrito and it's awesome! It's family owned and operated and their cakes and pastries are soooo good!!! Hidden gem! My roommate and I have gotten food from here multiple times and they're always a hit. I'm obsessed with their beef dumplings and am continuing to try their different pastries and desserts with each visit. They also have lots of drink choices to choose from for coffee lovers. This is one of those situations where the establishment should evaluate their customer service experience. When I came in this morning looking forward to trying breakfast from a stellar recommendation, I could not have been more disappointed. First off it blew my mind that a place so uniquely qualified to make craft drinks, savory eats, gorgeous pastries and bakeries was empty? As a long term resident of Carmichael you can only imagine how excited I was to find this gem of a location. That's when I experienced their biggest miss. The person working was cold and too busy putting her personal phone call on hold to even really acknowledge the opportunity to create new business. She walked away before I paid and then proceeded to spill the tea on her phone call which was on speaker, the handful of people sitting and waiting for her service absolutely loved hearing all of it. I left without so much as a good bye from her. I tipped her and said thank you because I have a standard of appreciation to those showing up during the pandemic. On her end no apologizes to the people who had been waiting for so long, mind you when I ordered she never came back out until the order was done, 15 mins later. It's a shame. My burrito was absolutely delicious tho and I realized before I had even tasted it I was going to leave a bad review. As a marketing and advertising specialist I could immediate recognize that costly mistake and I feel for this business because you can tell the level of quality and care they put into their craft, only to be be left in the hands of someone who could seemingly care less. I do hope this creates a conversation within their team and I hope things will change for the better. Stood at counter for several minutes before I was recognized by "good morning" then she went back to making a drink for I am assuming an online order. Received no comment like "Be with you in a minute or ??" Waited another several minutes at counter. Decided to leave as I felt they apparently did not need or want my business. Went to a coffee shop restaurant down the street about a 1/2 block or so to the next shopping center found a coffee shop that was extremely busy with customers. As soon as I entered they recognized me by saying "would be with me in a minute". They then opened a second line to serve myself and other customers. We had some business this weekend in Sacramento and ELITE was across the street from our meeting spot. So before our meeting we stopped by for some caffeine. We came in looking for caffeine - but the pastries on display were looking too good to pass up! We struck up conversation with the server and found out she is one of the daughters that helps run the family bakery business. She was super friendly and shared some interesting details on how the business started. She gave us some recommendations on what to order and boxed up a huge pile of delicious-looking pastries. The menu is more wayyy more than sweets and coffee - they have plenty of savory on the menu- breakfast, savory crepes, sandwiches, salads and more. The family is of Armenian ancestry so you can see that influence from that part of the world on the menu - Armenian coffee, Armenian pastries that you probably haven't heard of, champagne vinaigrettes, garlic aolis etc. Good stuff! This is not your average donuts and coffee shop! The menu is full of variety and quality ingredients! Here's what we ordered: RASPBERRY/BLUEBERRY SCONE (5/5) The raspberry scone was one of the best scones I've ever had. Great texture, not sweet but full of fresh raspberry and buttery overtones. So good. This was her number one recommendation and I can see why! BUTTER CROISSANT (5/5) The croissant. OMG, the croissant. It's not your average croissant! It's the most wonderful version of a croissant I've tasted! We drove out of our way the next day to come back to this bakery to get more croissants, so trust me when I say they are worth whatever you have to do to get some croissants here. They are heftier and have such a nice crunch to them. They are absolutely my new obsession. The next day, when we came back, they were sold out of croissants but knowing how desperate we were for them, she offered to bake off some fresh ones just for us. So we ordered up a half dozen and we gladly waited. I asked if she could make a sandwich with one of the croissants just out of the oven. I asked for TURKEY, SWISS AND FRESH TOMATO with garlic aoli. Will you think I'm being overly dramatic if I told you that it was one of the best sandwiches of my life? I'm not exaggerating. It was SO GOOD. That croissant was everything. You have to try it. It reminds me ever so slightly of a croissant with a dutch crunch influence. BANANA BREAD (5/5) This is some hearty banana bread. Again, not your average banana bread. Full of banana flavor, moist as hell and you'll want to eat the whole monster piece! CHOCOLATE ECLAIR (5/5) This is another one our server recommended. It was great - even though we didn't get to it until after our long drive in the hot car. I wish we were able to eat it sooner, but even still, it was creamy and delicious and the taste and texture of the pate a choux puffs were on point. BAKLAVA (4/5) This is not like the baklava that you're used to - but it's every bit as good as any other baklava I've tried. It's a more bready version and not as sweet - but so good. Lots of nuts, hard to stop eating. LEMON BAR (5/5) Lemon bars are my thing. I've ingested many, many a bar over the years. The bright tartness of the lemon curd is right on target. The crust is in good ratio to the lemon curd and provides a great counter balance to the sweet and sour. So please understand, we drove back to this bakery the next day to get more of what we had the day before!! We met the other sister and their mom. Very sweet, hard-working people who make all this delicious food! Sadly, there are some hating Yelpers that went off on this bakery - giving them a one star rating and calling the employees out for not wearing masks. Why?! The president went on TV this past week and announced that the CDC no longer requires masks. This business has obviously dropped the requirement to wear masks and that is their right - it's THEIR business! If customers don't like that, or don't agree with that, they have the right to not patronize this business! When they walk in and see no masks, they have the right to walk out and take their business elsewhere. But they have NO business trashing this bakery just because they prefer them to wear masks! Please spare us from the self-righteous, judgmental speeches on Covid protocol. Yelp should block those unfair reviews. Even after all the haters posting one star reviews, they STILL have a 4.5 star rating, which should tell you something! I hope very much that you get to try the food and pastries here at ELITE BAKERY CAFE (especially the croissants!) and that you get the opportunity to meet the owners - the whole family. I've only ever had cakes so can't comment on any non-pastry options although they do sound good. - cherry cheesecake: what I've gotten repeatedly and enjoyed. Small but very decadent. - napoleon cake: yum! Not overly sweet. My mom loves this one and she's had her fair share of different napoleons. - tiramisu: tried it with a coworker. Really loved the texture. Again, not overly sweet which was a plus. - honey came: this one was a miss. I have no doubt it can be delicious but I think I got an old piece. It was hard and the cream was not what it should be. Will try again. Possible this was a one off. The staff is super friendly and the slices are huge. I placed an order online (after finding so many great reviews on Reddit) for a few different flavored cheesecakes as Sacramento bakeries don't have many options lately! it's my boyfriends birthday and I wanted a special surprise and boy did Elite make it special! the cakes were not only delicious, and perfectly made but decorated beautifully and packaged so well. It was a luxury experience for less than $100! We ended up buying more cheesecake and even tried the carrot cake (also amazing!) after going to pick up our order. the customer service was 10/10 outstanding. the first older lady at the counter was so kind and helped us with finding our order! the second younger lady was so generous as well, she even gave my boyfriend a free bakery item (he was able to pick anything he wanted, which I have never seen before!) overall, they are more than worth the 40 minute drive and the price. i truly want to try everything they make after this great experience. thank you guys! read more
