This morning my husband and I took his elderly father to The Hungry Hallow Cafe in Carmichael CA. This cute cafe is located in the corner of a strip mall and has plenty of parking. The cafe has 2 sides to sit in and is decorated with decorations of the current holiday. We had the sweetest server, Debbie, and she made sure that the coffee cups on our table were always filled with hot coffee. My father in law had the French Toast and crispy bacon. It was a large portion of French Toast and the bacon was cooked perfectly. My husband ordered the Ham egg scramble with pancakes. He said his eggs were light, fluffy and very good. His 2 pancakes were large and looked really fluffy too.... I took a bite of his pancake and it has great flavor and was perfectly cooked. I ordered the veggie omelette With Jack cheese. I was able to substitute no zucchini for sausage. I choose crispy hash browns and a biscuit on the side with a side of biscuits and gravy gravy. My omelette was a 3 egg omelette, my hash browns were a perfect crispy and the side of biscuits and sausage gravy was flavorful and very good. They serve breakfast and lunch and all of their food is reasonably priced. A few lunch items, like fish n chips or a French dip are only $12.50...not too pricey at all. If you are looking for delicious hot food, friendly servers and reasonable prices this is the place for you. We will definitely be going back to The Hungry Halloween Cafe soon! My wife and I enjoy trying new breakfast places, and with the reviews Hungry Hollow Café has, we were looking forward to giving it a try. Unfortunately, we left wondering how it has such a high rating. I ordered the Country Scramble. The potatoes seemed boiled rather than fried and were very soft and mushy. That made the entire scramble watery and mushy as well. On the positive side, the sourdough toast was good. The biggest issue, though, was the cleanliness. In the bathroom, I saw three dead cockroaches and what appeared to be rat droppings around the edges of the floor. That was extremely unpleasant and honestly made it difficult to feel comfortable eating there. Based on our experience with both the food and cleanliness, my wife and I would not recommend Hungry Hollow Café, and we would not return. I rarely leave a review like this, but cleanliness in a restaurant is something I take seriously. read more

So I had never been here and as we walked in it seemed very small but thankfully they do have a back room with more tables. My boyfriend ordered the scramble which was super yummy and I ordered the bacon sourdough cheeseburger and added mushrooms. Which was equally amazing. I came here for breakfast with a friend as I had here so many great things about The Hungry Hollow. We walked in and waited to be seated. We were asked if you wanted to order coffee while we waited on our waitress which we did want coffee. We waited quite a while before our waitress came to take our orders. I ordered the Biscuits and gravy breakfast that which I wanted bacon and it comes with eggs cook to your liking. I wanted my eggs poached. The inside has plenty of seating since of the chairs do not match, I'm not sure if that's the look they were going for. Our food arrives and my biscuits are hard as a rock, the gravy is hot.. my eggs are not cooked poached and the bacon was cooked perfectly. I said something to my waitress about the hard biscuit and she apologized and walked off. I was a little confused? I finish eating my bacon and my non poached eggs. At this point I was waiting on my bill and ready to leave. The waitress comes back with the check and had the audacity to say, did you not like your biscuits abs gravy? Like, lady I told you the biscuits were hard as a rock I even hit them with my fork. She apologized again and said, she forgot I said they were hard. She asked me to give her a few minutes. She came back and asked if I wanted them remade I said, no and just wanted to pay my bill. This experience put a bad taste in my mouth. I still paid full price for my breakfast even though I didn't eat the biscuits. Oh well! Their prices are great, but that's about all. I probably won't be back. There are too many breakfast restaurants to receive subpar service. read more

Came in on Super Bowl Sunday with only about 45 minutes before closing and they let us in. We got classic French toast, bacon, sausage, egg, coffee, orange juice and can't forget the hash brown came out really quick and piping hot. A "hidden gem" that's been 51 years in the same location-the corner of a now dying strip mall. Well-deserved Yelp favorite, particularly among retirees. Outstanding breakfast menu, food prepared perfectly, friendly efficient servers, and comfortable surroundings. Bonus points for linguica as a meat choice. One of my favorite local breakfast spots! Everytime I eat here, I feel like I've been transported to a sitcom I grew up watching ('75 to 80's) called "Alice" about waitresses at a diner. I usually order the Monte Cristo because it's so darned good here. It did not disappoint. Again. The average age of the clientele is about 80, and everyone is as friendly as can be! Total blast from the past. It felt like the type of breakfast joint you'd go to in the 80s. Has a really small town family owned vibe to it. We were greeted upon walking in and customer service was good. Food came out fast. I ordered the egg plate with sausage links and country potatoes. It definitely reminded me of a legit home cooked meal! I can tell those potatoes were made with TLC and not just a pre chopped frozen potatoes. Which was really nice. What really made me not want to come back, though was the fact that the staff was making fun of a customer that got harassed by another customer. 5 STARS because I am happy I go elsewhere after they served me an Omlette that stank SOOOO BAD like a bacteria infested rag.....I mean serious stink I should have called the cook, waitress and owner to take a bite. They did it on purpose, 2nd replacement Omlette was almost just as bad its impossible not to know. I can tell they used a rag that wiped the kitchen the night before then sat out all night to create the perfect stink fir where they cut the vegetables for my food.....that or they purposefully squeezed the water from the bacteria infested rag. Came in to try it out today. I must say the staff was amazing. The food was really out of this world i had the most the french toast and omg it was so delicious. The service here is the star of the show. The decor is over the top kitschy in a U S A kind of way, but the food is mostly on point though. I am not a huge breakfast eater, but it's my husband's favorite so we try to find places that will work for both. We are on a mission to try every breakfast place in Sacramento. This is a solid little hole in the wall cafe 3.8/5. I'll start with the service. Our waitress was sweet and friendly and my husband's coffee cup was never empty. Service was 10/10. The decor is ummm, very patriotic. Like someone threw a 4th of July party but never took down the decorations. The place could use a good dusting on all of the decor. It's very homey. Most of the food was good. I really enjoyed my Larry's scramble. It's like an open face grilled cheese with sausage patties and scrambled eggs on top. I opted for my gravy on the side. The food is very homey like what your grandma might make only a bit smaller on the portion size. My potatoes were very good but could have cooked a few more min. 8/10 for my plate. The Monte Cristo was 6.5/10 the inside of the bread was too soggy for me and the size of the food wasn't worth $12.50 in my opinion. The gravy was good. 7/10. This place has been here for about 47 years, it appeared to have things made from scratch and be homemade. The waiter I think May had been new, and when asked questions appeared to be confused and even said he was confused, but clarified what was asked and got a correct answer. This hidden little gem is absolutely all the rave you read about on Yelp! After sitting at a completely different restaurant and not liking what we saw, we pulled out our Yelp app and found The Hungry Hollow! We politely left the other restaurant to come here for how good their food looked online and with our full trust put into our Yelp community! Boy, did they not disappoint! As you walk in, wherever there is seating, you go. We happened to come in after the breakfast rush and before lunch, so it had mostly cleared out. Seating was set up in two rooms, all tables & chairs. It was simple decor, along with a some added Valentine's quotes throughout. The entire restaurant has 2 servers and can be quite hectic during breakfast, from what I hear, but your patience will get you an AMAZING breakfast. Our server, Nadine, was very sweet & friendly. I ordered 2 Biscuits & Gravy with 2 Sunnyside Up Eggs, 2 bacon & 2 sausage and my friend got her usual Bacon & Cheese Omelette. Breakfast was ready very quickly, it was wonderful knowing their kitchen was in top of things in between a rush. Our plates looked so delicious! My friend said her bacon was nice & crispy in her omelette and her crispy hash browns tasted good. I would've enjoyed a little less gravy, but it still tasted great. I liked their sunnyside up eggs and that extra side of crispy country potatoes was so good, too. Nadine was very busy and on top of things the entire time.
