Yelp helped me find a new donut shop. On my way to Reno and did a search on that route and found Sweet Dozen. Many great pictures and great reviews. No seating inside. Very clean, the donuts on display were very appealing. Quick and friendly service. I had a little trouble ordering. I requested a dozen regular and a dozen fancy, plus two chocolate cruellers. I was ordering the dozens for my son's work. Which is located nearby. Person behind the counter clarified by saying regular are just the cake donuts at the bottom level. And offered me a number of options which I found confusing. Maybe I just don't speak clearly enough. I ended up Having to ask for an additional chocolate crueller. She had only put one in the bag. And I ended up with just one dozen of a mix of donuts, including some fancy. So maybe sweet dozen refers to sort of a limitation? The chocolate cruellers were very fresh. The icing had a great texture and was generously applied. Unfortunately, the flavor wasn't very chocolatey. It almost had a berry flavor predominant. But I don't want to be too picky. These are 1 million times better than the cold, wet scones I got at Starbucks yesterday. Those were inedible - I discarded them. What a lovely little donut shop! Welcomed immediately upon walking in despite a queue in the store. It was truly a work of art seeing the man at the store being so friendly and engaging with every person. Truly a customer focused place! Apple fritter review #36 This place has apple fritters in two varieties, glazed and cinnamon crumble, as well as banana fritters. I got a crumble apple and a banana so this will be long. Crumble Topping Apple Fritter Glaze: there IS glaze on this, not much, just enough to hold onto the crumble topping, which I like, though I usually prefer a bit more crunchiness. But I'll give four stars because I'm happy to have the option of a different topping. Outside: again it's not crunchy, three stars Inside: very moist and fluffy, four stars Filling: I searched and while there's nice swirls of cinnamon I could find no actual apple bits, and the apple flavor is lacking. Two stars Banana Fritter Glaze: I've had heavily-glazed donuts from this place before but the amount on this fritter is fine. I'm getting definite artificial banana flavor right away. I mean I didn't know what to expect from a banana fritter going in, but there it is. Three stars Outside: could be crispier, three stars Inside: moist and fluffy like the other one. Four stars Filling: so, I couldn't find any pieces of banana, maybe it's blended or it just turns to a mush when cooked or something. Or there just isn't any. There's the same swirls of cinnamon like the other fritter. The flavor is primarily in the glaze and I'm not sure I taste anything in the donut itself. Love this place and come here every couple months or so. Donuts are yummy and they have specialty flavors, which keeps it interesting! Can't remember the people's names that were here but the young guy is super upbeat and friendly anytime I come in. The other day I got served by a woman for the first time and she was nice enough, just a bit rushed and seemed like she didn't want to chit chat which is understandable. We all have our days. It was the morning of my mother's funeral when I walked into Sweet Dozen to purchase three dozen donuts for the service. I was feeling sad and nervous about the day. The gentleman behind the counter with a warm smile greeted me, and when I told him what a difficult day it would be for me, he was so supportive and kind to me. They have a ton of selections upon arrival, with new donuts they like to rotate in and out. The shop seems to be a family shop, which I love! I've been meaning to leave a review for Sweet Dozen, but every time I come home with a box of freshly made donuts, we dig into them too quickly to remember to take a photo. This quaint little shop offers excellent donuts and pastries, and I love their unique combinations of flavors, some are off the wall crazy and others are Asian and Hawaiian inspired. We love them all! What we really like about this shop though is their friendly service. I'm always greeted with a smile and when I've come in with big orders, they've occasionally thrown in an extra handful of donut holes, or a sampling of a donut I haven't tried before. One thing is certain though, we never want this place to go out of business or retire. It's awesome having a nearby donut shop with quality goods, and when we are feeling fancy, they also have specialty offerings like cronuts, popovers, and savory croissants (if they haven't run out by the time I get there!) For the best selection, arrive early. On holidays, this is especially true, because I've been there when they already ran out of their entire batch of donuts by eleven in the morning. Sweet Dozen is a great donut shop and an awesome treat on weekends and when we have company or special events going on at our house. I've driven by this place dozens of times and have always wanted to come in for their mochi donuts. Years later, I finally did, on a Monday. There were a few people there when I arrived, and guess what.. they did not have mochi donuts! Oops! Turns out they only have it on weekends (I'm sure someone probably wrote it in a review that I didn't see.) I was bummed, but the guy behind the counter was beyond friendly. He patiently explained the situation (that business is slowly on weekdays so they dont have it then) and did not pressure me to buy/try anything else. I ended up requesting one regular donut to try. When I paid, he told me to skip the tipping part. When I got to my car to look at the donut, it turns out that he gave me two! The service that he provided was amazing. I haven't stopped by Sweet Dozen in a little bit so I made a trip this morning. The donuts are still fresh and delicious here as that have been for years. I got a coconut raised and a jelly filled, and got a maple bacon and a custard filled for the hubby. All selections were soft and fresh. The only qualm I have is that I asked to have a donut freshly filled with cream, which we have always done in the past, and it wasn't an option today. Might have just been a one off. That said, there is always a great selection here, and I haven't had a bad donut yet. read more

OMG, my eyes are bigger than my stomach and my blood sugar level! I bought too many donuts to sample when they taste best the same day or by the next day, so please pace yourself. I enjoyed the mochi donuts (a.k.a. dochis) and malasadas the most. The mochi donuts are only available on weekends, and the malasadas are only available the first Saturday of the month. The malasadas are big and rectangular unlike the Hawaiian malasada donut balls. They don't have as big a filling:dough ratio as the Hawaiian malasadas, but I still enjoyed them as comforting sugar donuts. The doissants are things of beauty, but not worth the cost to me. Big and messy to me to eat. There's a crispy, layered denseness to them, so they're not soft like a donut or a buttery croissant. I imagine a bread lover with a sweet tooth would enjoy these. Look at my pictures of the Glazed Doissant...who wouldn't want to try that?!@#$ Sweet Dozen has 2 types of blueberry cake donuts! Regular Blueberry and Double Blueberry. Sweet Dozen carries Vaneli's coffee. I don't think you can mix and match the regular donuts with the specialty doissants/dochis/croissant poppers to make a dozen. They all have to be the same type. Ever since I heard about malasadas on the 1st Saturday of the month, I knew the countdown had begun. I showed up around 8am with my mask and high hopes. There's literally something for everyone. We tried the ube donut, chocolate donuts, green tea/fruity pebbles/strawberry shortcake mochi donuts, coconut/guava malasadas, and strawberry cream cheese croissant. Some places have quite a limited offering on weekdays and even though Sweet Dozen does have a number of donuts that aren't available all the time, most of them still are. I've tried a handful of donuts here so far and loved them all so trusting that they're consistent with their baking, I would recommend just getting whatever appeals to you. My favorite by far that I have never come across anywhere else are the cronut / doissant holes (croissant donuts holes)! I've seen plenty of cronuts and doissants but not the holes.
