I was so excited and hungry for some nachos. I ordered extra meat, with extra cheese. When they gave me my order, I could tell the bag felt really light. So I opened it up and looked inside, It looked like the normal portion of nachos. I asked the cashier if they gave me extra meat I paid for, she said yes. I opened the box, there was no guacamole, sour cream, no type of sauce/liquid whatsoever. She then explained to me it's just 1 extra small scoop and I was very disappointed. The extra meat was $5 and the extra cheese is $1.10. I also got a medium horchata. So I spent $23.70 and it didn't fill me up at all. I will never be back to this location. I ordered machaca taco then they gave me shrimp. I'm allergic to shrimp and told them after they brought it. I repeated it twice to confirm they weren't just putting the machaca in the same shell because I'm allergic to what they put originally. She confirmed it was a different shell. I got home and sitting 10 mins of eating my food my lips and tongue are swollen. I downed some benadryl right away. Back working in the Van Nuys area, today my quest continued to find a good Mexican restaurant that serves deep fried, hard shell beef tacos. If you've read my posts, you know my last experience with a Mexican restaurant in the area was bad; this one wasn't much better. Initially I was going to go to another place (which actually showed a deep fried hard shell taco in their pictures), but I was assured by my Latina co-worker, that this establishment served deep fried hard shell beef tacos; she even called and placed the order for me; deep fried hard shell beef taco and a chicken enchilada with rice and beans; she also ordered for herself; a couple soft shell "street" carne asada tacos (you know, the kind with just meat, onions and cilantro). She emphasized this was an "authentic" Mexican restaurant and also asked me to get some of the "great sauce" to go with the tacos. Upon returning to work and opening the container, my excitement turned to disappointment. The first thing I noticed was the beef taco was not deep fried; it was in a "taco bell, del taco, etc." hard taco shell, and from here things continued to go downhill. The rice and beans were good, but the portion of beans was small. The chips that came along with it were very good and it also came with a "salad", but no salad dressing; was this supposed to be garnishment for my taco and enchilada? The taco and enchilada meat had, for lack of a better way of putting it, a kind of musty smell, as if it had been sitting around awhile; these were not "fresh" ingredients when it came to the meats. The sauce that my friend had asked me to get was hot, but it didn't really have a flavor to it as other sauces have that I've tasted. Having the iron clad stomach I have, I finished the meal; it was filling but not very enjoyable. When I have my next craving for Mexican food here in the Van Nuys area, I'll be trying the place I was initially going to go to and see what they are like; THE SAGA CONTINUES, LOL. read more

I work nearby for about a third of the year and this has been my go-to lunch spot since I first stopped in. The food is always consistently delicious. The ladies who work here are super friendly too. This location in particular is better than a couple of the others I've tried. For whatever reason, this spot has the best quesadillas I've ever had. The price is great, and the food is a lot better than so many other places. Burritos- are soft and have good flavor, seems like every ingredient is spread equally, meat is juicy and flavorful. I stopped in here for lunch recently and ordered the 5 taco place to dine in. It came with a drink and the meal was under 8 bucks. When they called my order the tacos were wrapped in foil and in a bag. I let the girl that took my order know that I was dining in and still wasn't given a plate. I found a table and opened the tacos and due to them being wrapped in foil, the tortillas were mushy and falling apart. There are so many sweet and precious memories I have of this place. For a long time (maybe 10 years) I have been going to this location, or the one on Sherman Way. So, 5 stars because of that. But it's not just that, they have the best nacho dish. Freshly made nachos with a bunch of beans, carne asada, shredded lettuce, some kind of white cheese, and guacamole sauce on top. What makes this place one of the best, was not only because of the quality of the meat and products, but also the RED SAUCE!!! It's one of the best. I often go to other restaurants and think to myself, "man some of that Taco Llama Red Sauce would be really nice right now." The quality of the food has gone down recently, I guess because of the economy. It is really overpriced for what you get but they have been around for years so it's really well known. It's dying down because you can find the same food somewhere else for a reasonable price.
