They have a salsa bar located in the dining area close to the kitchen. The green avocado salsa & red macha salsa are MUST-HAVES for any spicy-chasers. I always order their Mocaljete Spicy Burrito and their Taquito Trio Platter. This easily feeds me 2-3 meals worth. Service is usually stellar. I've had one slow experience out of 12 visits. Outdoor seating is available and the average wait time during peak hours for a party of 4 is about 10-20 min depending on your choice of seating area. Salsa & Beer is an iconic Valley staple. I still have memories of the line being out the door over 10 years ago. They are pretty popular to this day and I'm pleased business is thriving. Unfortunately, the prices have skyrocketed. I guess it's a sign of the times like a lot of places. S&B used to be known for good Mexican food at an affordable price. The food is still delicious (I love their beans and bean dip, and my bf really likes their rice). Just not in love with these prices. To get the most value, if you order one of the burritos, you can easily split it into two meals because they're pretty big. Got the chicken fajita burrito and had half for lunch yesterday and today. I decided to stop by after having a long and exhausting week at work. I was surprised and happy when I arrived and there was no wait time, as this restaurant usually has a considerable wait. The ambiance at this restaurant is loud, crowded, and very high-energy. They offer both indoor seating and outdoor patio seating. I decided to order their tacos al carbon. I ordered two asada and two chicken tacos. My family also ordered a couple of other entrees. We were also offered complimentary chips and bean dip, which was some of the best I've ever had. The tacos had a smoky, slightly charred flavor. Now, let's talk about the service. This is where I had a major issue. For starters, our server, Cesar, had a bit of an attitude. He gave very short, unhelpful responses to our questions. When it came time to bring the check, he mentioned that gratuity was automatically included. However, nowhere on the check did it indicate that a gratuity charge is automatically added, which is information that is typically disclosed. I noticed that he had given himself a $28 tip. I paid the bill but was left feeling very skeptical. I decided to speak to a manager regarding the supposed automatic gratuity charge. The manager stated that gratuity is optional, not mandatory. I then explained that Cesar had told me it was automatically included. The manager then brought out Cesar, who became very confrontational and denied what he had said. He accused me of lying and claimed that I had willingly chosen to tip him $28 for the service. One thing I can't stand is dishonesty. Another manager stepped in and mentioned that Cesar had pulled this stunt with other customers and that several people had complained about the same issue. I hope that management takes appropriate action, as what Cesar did is considered unethical. We waited for less than 30 minutes and got our seat and the place was packed. Kind of loud but it's the okay kind. They provide a bowl of chips with beans while you wait. We got one burrito and combo of asadas y camarones. Food was 10/10 especially the steak. Ordered takeout from Salsa & Beer and it definitely hit the spot. Had the Asada Burrito, Trio Taquitos, and a couple Jamaica drinks. Even after the ride home, everything held up really well. The Asada Burrito was huge and packed with flavorful carne asada with that nice grilled taste. The portions are a good size and super delicious. The Trio Taquitos (2 Chicken, 2 Beef, and 2 potato's) were crispy and loaded with toppings like guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. Still had a good crunch even as takeout. Food and portions are great but please train the servers better. I had a friend from out of the country that wanted to go back to this restaurant for food and margaritas. Last year, we came on a weekday evening and the food and service was stellar. This past weekend, we decided to come around 4pm on a Sunday. The wait was bearable and we were seated on the outside patio per our request. It was obviously very busy as it was a weekend and our server CESAR came to get our order. We decided to order everything all at once to be efficient, appetizers, drinks, entree. We ordered beef nachos for an appetizer and we even answered the question of what kind of beef we wanted on top. There were 3 of us and we all mentioned beef nachos was the appetizer that we wanted. We proceeded with the rest of our order. Next thing we know, taquitos comes to our table. We explained to Cesar that we didn't order taquitos, we ordered nachos. He tried to argue with us and say no we ordered taquitos and even tried to show us his iPad where he input the order which he obviously input wrong. We tried to explain to him that he must have heard wrong or input it wrong and he tried to argue with us a second time! Because we were so fed up, we decided to just go ahead and add nachos to our order because that's what we actually wanted. He was clearly rushing to take the order and didn't really listen to us the first time but we were just appalled that he would argue with us when THREE of us told him we ordered NACHOS and not TAQUITOS. Other things like cutlery wasn't even provided before the food started coming out, I ordered grilled jalapeños and those didn't even come out until I was already halfway done with my meal, but those things we can overlook. The biggest issue was the arguing with the customers. We were so turned off that we just wanted to finish our meal and get out of there. The bill comes and of course we see BOTH taquitos and nachos on there. The server didn't even bother trying to take out the taquitos as a courtesy since it was HIS mistake. Mind you, there were 4 taquitos on the plate, only one got half eaten because we didn't even want it, but it was clear he wasn't going to take it back so one of us just decided to try it. The least he can do is offer to remove it from the bill and we even asked him why are the taquitos still there on the bill? He said nothing and just waited for us to pay. We weren't sure how the servers divided up the tips and so we still tipped him even though that interaction sealed the deal that none of us will be going back to this location ever. It's one thing to make a mistake, we get it, it's busy and you're rushing to get the orders, but if you get called out on the mistake, don't argue with your customers. Own up to your mistake and make it right. That's customer service. We will never come back just because of this experience. What's the point of good food if we get turned off by the servers attitude? read more

So disappointed to write this review. I've been to this exact salsa and beer restaurant for 5+ years. Service each and every time before has been phenomenal. But these last 2 visits with a specific waiter has been unfortunately extremely disappointing. Elizabeth has waited my table twice, I went once on a Friday and the next time the following Tuesday. She wasn't attentive I felt ignored. I understand when the restaurant is busy however the restaurant both times was half full and had multiple waiters. On Tuesday, Elizabeth took 20 minutes to attend to our table after being sat. We were dying of thrust I had to go up to her and ask for water, I felt like doing that made her take even longer to bring out the water. When serving the water and taking our order her attitude was so rude. And I've never felt this at salsa and beer. Again I understand bad days but two separate days and having almost the same interactions? It's disappointing. Lastly, I order the same items on both days. On Friday I was charged correctly, tacos and a side of rice. However on Tuesday she charged me the combo price and when we disputed it because SHE charged it wrong she said well it's too late I rang up the receipt. I've been coming to this restaurant pretty regularly, and honestly, it's gone downhill. The prices keep going up, but the quality and consistency don't match it. I always order the same dish, and it's been really inconsistent--sometimes you get a solid portion of meat, and other times it's noticeably less. On one visit, my father and I ordered the exact same thing, and the difference in portions was obvious. When I pointed it out to the waiter, she said there was "more on the bottom." I moved the meat around to check, and it was still mainly vegetables. Twice now I've brought this up, and instead of fixing it, they took my plate back and came back saying the manager claims that's the correct portion size--basically more vegetables than actual protein. If that's the case, I might as well have gone to a vegan spot. It just feels like they're getting greedy while cutting back on what customers actually care about. I so want to give them 5 stars, but it gets so crowded and they don't take reservations. Last time we went the wait was an hour and that nuts, so we had it made to go. Their place ever so cute. I love the orange paint and the inside is adorable. The place is always clean. The service there is great. The staff is fast and super nice. They know the menu and get your order right the first time and this makes no difference whether you are picking up or eating there. We have eaten there before. The food is great. We love all of it. I love their rice and beans, they do it well. Their taquitos are super. They have some great salads to try, we have had a few and they were really good. Their shrimp dishes are wonderful. One of the best Mexican restaurants in the valley. In my opinion... Food is always amazing and fresh. Now that they offer outdoor patio seating. It does help with the wait time. We arrived during the main rush for dinner Friday night and to my surprised, they had tables available inside. Parking on the other hand, it's a hit or miss in the lot. Street parking available in the neighborhood. The bean dip is always a hit with chips. There's the fresh salsa bar where you help yourself. It's a bitch with the layout of it and the plastic partition above. It's hard to maneuver getting the salsa out with the long scoop without spilling. And, the small to go cups for salsas. Maybe upgrade to a bigger size would be helpful, just saying. The menu which for a while now has all the price punched out. So you don't know what cost what now. Prices have gone up but it's still worth it. They also have more cocktails on the menu than way before. We tend to just stick with a pitcher of beer for the whole meal. Regardless if its lunch or dinner, I tend to alway get my usuals the Guadalajara fajitas. A combination of shrimp, chicken and steak. Plus with all the grilled veggies, zucchini, onion and bell peppers. And then topped with the spicy Guadalajara sauce which comes out pipping hot and sizzling. We also got the steak enchiladas meal with rice and beans. Another favorite dish. And one of the combos, a taco and cheese enchiladas served with rice and beans as well. The food is always fresh and tasty. The portions are pretty big so loads of leftovers. They now offer a discounts if the bill is paid with cash versus credit card. The food is always amazing and fresh. Service is always good. Staff is always friendly and sweet. Line can be pretty long during the weekend so there maybe a wait. You cannot not come here and not try their carne asada con papas. There is always a line out the door, but this is worth the little wait. The line of people might look intimidating but it goes by pretty fast. The ambience is good for a dinner date with margaritas to family dinner. This small place can accommodate big groups of people. One of my favorite locations in the Salsa & Beer universe. Located in the Lake Balboa neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley, this 818 gem has shared parking in a plaza lot as well as street. Lots of yummy drinks/bebidas, comidas/eats and good service. Their salsa bar is always stocked, their layout is space out, intimate meets cozy with enough room to get around. I ordered a Vegetarian Burrito, but vegan style, sin queso. They still don't have a direct vegan friendly item without modifications in 2025, but they do have a ton of veggie options and are typically accommodating. We came in for dinner under not so great circumstances, but had nothing but quality chips and salsa, beverages, meals (with leftovers) and enjoyed ourselves. Our server was really easy going and attentive. It did start to pick up more, but between her and a friendly busser on the floor we got everything we needed including to-go boxes when it was time to go. My friend's had a variety from combination plates to enchiladas and burritos. Definitely didn't take as many pics as normal, but hope to pop in soon again and remedy that, but especially for numero uno aka the original/very first location off White Oak (Avenue)/Vanowen (Street). It's still very much quality authentic Mexican food, atmosphere, decor and good vibes. First come, first serve as they don't take reservations here or at any of their locations. Salsa & Beer is a long time staple in the Valley. They started out by featuring these huge bottles of beers and really tasty seafood as a drawn in. Now the place is booming with constant clientele, great food and great Margaritas. The parking is a bit tricky, I always seem to get parking near by, but you may have to park in the street. They don't take reservations, so be prepared to wait in line. The wait staff here is on point. They get you in, fed, and libated without making you feel rushed. There is plenty of seating, but you would do better in a group under 6. The bean dip and salsas bar is always a hit. Recommend. read more

So I decided to give Salsa and Beer a second chance and I'm really glad I did. It was a little slower which I think made the difference. We had the trios fajitas (steak,shrimp and chicken) and the food was grilled to perfection!!! The chips and bean dip were hot, thick and full of flavor; the salsa was absolutely on point and again full of flavor. We sat outside on the patio and it was open, easy to get through and always so nicely decorated. My only suggestion there is maybe some discreet fly zappers. Our server Elizabeth was attentive and friendly, definitely made our experience more enjoyable. I did say something to the manager but it deserved an updated review. The flavors are authentic and consistently good, which is why this place is always packed. The biggest downside is the wait. It's almost always long, and on weekends it can easily run an hour to an hour and a half. Pro tip: use the Yelp waitlist to save yourself from standing around. Since COVID, they've expanded the outdoor seating, which has helped a bit, but I still find myself waiting no matter what day of the week I go. No apologies, they made me wait another 1hour for my full order. This is the 2nd time they did this and the experience is awful. The catering order was for a work lunch order and because of their poor service, the food was served 2 hours later with everyone upset. We came here on a Sunday at 4pm, perfect timing because we beat the dinner rush! We were seated indoor, we preferred this over the outdoor seating because of the weather. We were seated and quickly given a basket of fresh chips and bean dip. YUM!! So fresh and a great starter. The server was kind and told us there is a sauce bar for salsas and jalepenos. I really liked that they provided that on the side. The avo salsa and red salsas tasted fresh and added great flavor as a dip. The prices here have increased a lot since covid, a bit upsetting but with inflation it's understandable. $27 for a fajita plate: your choice of meat with a ton of grilled peppers, onion, and zucchini. And also a gigantic plate of rice, beans, guac salad, and your choice of homemade corn or flour tortilla. Honestly, after seeing the amount of food we were given, totally worth the $27!! Take a box to go for tomorrow's lunch ;) the chicken and steak were juicy, charred well, not overly salty. The peppers and onions added a perfect bite to accompany the meat.
