    Asadas y camarones

Heard of this place from some coworkers. Came here at 7pm on Saturday so the parking lot was packed and the hostess said it was an hour wait time. We waited for less than 30 minutes and got our seat and the place was packed. Kind of loud but it's the okay kind. They provide a bowl of chips with beans while you wait. We got one burrito and combo of asadas y camarones. Food was 10/10 especially the steak. One plate can feed about 3 people so we had a lot to take home and the leftovers still taste good after!

Ordered takeout from Salsa & Beer and it definitely hit the spot. Had the Asada Burrito, Trio Taquitos, and a couple Jamaica drinks. Even after the ride home, everything held up really well. The Asada Burrito was huge and packed with flavorful carne asada with that nice grilled taste. The portions are a good size and super delicious. The Trio Taquitos (2 Chicken, 2 Beef, and 2 potato's) were crispy and loaded with toppings like guacamole, sour cream, and salsa. Still had a good crunch even as takeout. The Jamaica drinks were refreshing they are slightly tart and not overly sweet, perfect with the meal. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

The best sit down Mexican food in the valley! Best location is debatable, but for me this has always been the spot lol specially for a Friday night the wait was only 30 minutes! Had a cute little date night with hubby they sat us outside, sweetheart table style and we enjoyed our faves, for me it's the chicken taquitos and for my hubby the steak fajita burrito! I'm not a big fan of beans but I always finish a bowl when I'm here lol

This is my new place for Fajitas! We came here for dinner last week on a Thursday, and it wasn't too crowded and the service was great. Be careful not to get too full on the chips and bean dip! Everything paired well with an ice cold Pacifico

Food and portions are great but please train the servers better. I had a friend from out of the country that wanted to go back to this restaurant for food and margaritas. Last year, we came on a weekday evening and the food and service was stellar. This past weekend, we decided to come around 4pm on a Sunday. The wait was bearable and we were seated on the outside patio per our request. It was obviously very busy as it was a weekend and our server CESAR came to get our order. We decided to order everything all at once to be efficient, appetizers, drinks, entree. We ordered beef nachos for an appetizer and we even answered the question of what kind of beef we wanted on top. There were 3 of us and we all mentioned beef nachos was the appetizer that we wanted. We proceeded with the rest of our order. Next thing we know, taquitos comes to our table. We explained to Cesar that we didn't order taquitos, we ordered nachos. He tried to argue with us and say no we ordered taquitos and even tried to show us his iPad where he input the order which he obviously input wrong. We tried to explain to him that he must have heard wrong or input it wrong and he tried to argue with us a second time! Because we were so fed up, we decided to just go ahead and add nachos to our order because that's what we actually wanted. He was clearly rushing to take the order and didn't really listen to us the first time but we were just appalled that he would argue with us when THREE of us told him we ordered NACHOS and not TAQUITOS. Other things like cutlery wasn't even provided before the food started coming out, I ordered grilled jalapeños and those didn't even come out until I was already halfway done with my meal, but those things we can overlook. The biggest issue was the arguing with the customers. We were so turned off that we just wanted to finish our meal and get out of there. The bill comes and of course we see BOTH taquitos and nachos on there. The server didn't even bother trying to take out the taquitos as a courtesy since it was HIS mistake. Mind you, there were 4 taquitos on the plate, only one got half eaten because we didn't even want it, but it was clear he wasn't going to take it back so one of us just decided to try it. The least he can do is offer to remove it from the bill and we even asked him why are the taquitos still there on the bill? He said nothing and just waited for us to pay. We weren't sure how the servers divided up the tips and so we still tipped him even though that interaction sealed the deal that none of us will be going back to this location ever. It's one thing to make a mistake, we get it, it's busy and you're rushing to get the orders, but if you get called out on the mistake, don't argue with your customers. Own up to your mistake and make it right. That's customer service. We will never come back just because of this experience. What's the point of good food if we get turned off by the servers attitude?

I've been coming to this restaurant pretty regularly, and honestly, it's gone downhill. The prices keep going up, but the quality and consistency don't match it. I always order the same dish, and it's been really inconsistent--sometimes you get a solid portion of meat, and other times it's noticeably less. On one visit, my father and I ordered the exact same thing, and the difference in portions was obvious. When I pointed it out to the waiter, she said there was "more on the bottom." I moved the meat around to check, and it was still mainly vegetables. Twice now I've brought this up, and instead of fixing it, they took my plate back and came back saying the manager claims that's the correct portion size--basically more vegetables than actual protein. If that's the case, I might as well have gone to a vegan spot. It just feels like they're getting greedy while cutting back on what customers actually care about. I used to enjoy coming here, but after these experiences, I won't be supporting this restaurant anymore.

I so want to give them 5 stars, but it gets so crowded and they don't take reservations. Last time we went the wait was an hour and that nuts, so we had it made to go. Their place ever so cute. I love the orange paint and the inside is adorable. The place is always clean. The service there is great. The staff is fast and super nice. They know the menu and get your order right the first time and this makes no difference whether you are picking up or eating there. We have eaten there before. The food is great. We love all of it. I love their rice and beans, they do it well. Their taquitos are super. They have some great salads to try, we have had a few and they were really good. Their shrimp dishes are wonderful. Get something with shrimp. You will be in heaven.

Their famous spicy bean dip and bottomless chips.

One of the best Mexican restaurants in the valley. In my opinion... Food is always amazing and fresh. Now that they offer outdoor patio seating. It does help with the wait time. We arrived during the main rush for dinner Friday night and to my surprised, they had tables available inside. Parking on the other hand, it's a hit or miss in the lot. Street parking available in the neighborhood. The bean dip is always a hit with chips. There's the fresh salsa bar where you help yourself. It's a bitch with the layout of it and the plastic partition above. It's hard to maneuver getting the salsa out with the long scoop without spilling. And, the small to go cups for salsas. Maybe upgrade to a bigger size would be helpful, just saying. The menu which for a while now has all the price punched out. So you don't know what cost what now. Prices have gone up but it's still worth it. They also have more cocktails on the menu than way before. We tend to just stick with a pitcher of beer for the whole meal. Regardless if its lunch or dinner, I tend to alway get my usuals the Guadalajara fajitas. A combination of shrimp, chicken and steak. Plus with all the grilled veggies, zucchini, onion and bell peppers. And then topped with the spicy Guadalajara sauce which comes out pipping hot and sizzling. We also got the steak enchiladas meal with rice and beans. Another favorite dish. And one of the combos, a taco and cheese enchiladas served with rice and beans as well. The food is always fresh and tasty. The portions are pretty big so loads of leftovers. They now offer a discounts if the bill is paid with cash versus credit card. The food is always amazing and fresh. Service is always good. Staff is always friendly and sweet. Line can be pretty long during the weekend so there maybe a wait. Otherwise, it's always a great experience and meal for us.

I always enjoy coming to Salsa and Beer u never fear the flavor won't be there! I will say there is always a long wait and it was quite chilly and windy so one star off for not having a little more of a bigger waiting space with how popular the place is expanding isn't an option? Literally have to pry the bean dip and chips from me because it then becomes the entire meal idk have some self control when you come is my best advice ???

Make room for these 2 bad boys: the shrimp fajitas

When I move you move. Just like that. When I dip, you dip. Just like that. Their warm bean dip is so comforting just like the potatoes (papas) in their carne asada con papas, which is a must get. You cannot not come here and not try their carne asada con papas. There is always a line out the door, but this is worth the little wait. The line of people might look intimidating but it goes by pretty fast. The ambience is good for a dinner date with margaritas to family dinner. This small place can accommodate big groups of people. They make it work by moving tables and chairs around. So bring your parents, bring your siblings, bring your kids and their kids, your aunties and uncles, and cousins with their appetites too. FYI, they offer a cash price discount.

One of my favorite locations in the Salsa & Beer universe. Located in the Lake Balboa neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley, this 818 gem has shared parking in a plaza lot as well as street. Lots of yummy drinks/bebidas, comidas/eats and good service. Their salsa bar is always stocked, their layout is space out, intimate meets cozy with enough room to get around. I ordered a Vegetarian Burrito, but vegan style, sin queso. They still don't have a direct vegan friendly item without modifications in 2025, but they do have a ton of veggie options and are typically accommodating. We came in for dinner under not so great circumstances, but had nothing but quality chips and salsa, beverages, meals (with leftovers) and enjoyed ourselves. Our server was really easy going and attentive. It did start to pick up more, but between her and a friendly busser on the floor we got everything we needed including to-go boxes when it was time to go. My friend's had a variety from combination plates to enchiladas and burritos. Definitely didn't take as many pics as normal, but hope to pop in soon again and remedy that, but especially for numero uno aka the original/very first location off White Oak (Avenue)/Vanowen (Street). It's still very much quality authentic Mexican food, atmosphere, decor and good vibes. First come, first serve as they don't take reservations here or at any of their locations. Awesome outdoor patio set up.

Place was crazy packed but we only had to wait a few minutes for a table. Our server Vanessa was so sweet and attentive!! The food was as absolutely amazing!! Hot and fresh!! Of course the salsa bar is a delight! I wish the cups were bigger because you can hardly get a chip into them. The bean dip is outstanding!! I do wish this location had a bar but we actually didn't have to wait long. I'm so full and the margaritas are great!! Definitely a must try! Only my second time here.

Ask the Community - Salsa & Beer

Did they get their liquor license because a guy posted that he was at this location drinking a Cadillac margarita with tequila? Was it 🧢 and he wasn't at this one?

    Do they deliver?

Great question. Not sure but give them a call as I'd assume some third-party service likely would accommodate if they do not deliver. It's worth it!

Are the margaritas made with tequila at this location?

    Unfortunately, the answer is No.

What's the biggest party size they can accommodate?

Depends on day and how busy. They have down a party of 20 for us before if you call ahead and ask to reserve

Are there any gluten free options?

Not really. You can avoid the shells or tacos and just get meat options like fajitas. That's normally what I do

    Does this place do reservations?

No, it can be a long wait

Can i bring my small dog if we eat outside?

    Yes! They are pet friendly

    Do they have Happy hour?

Yes! They did when we went!

Does salsa and beer do carering?

Yes they do! For any event

Is Salsa & Beer Latinx Owned?

    Sounds like they are

Are the fried beans made with lard or oil?

I'vw called in the past to ask and they've told me they don't use lard

Are their margaritas made with tequila or is it those fake wine based "margaritas"?

they are wine-based, from the last time I ordered one. I do not believe they have a hard liquor license. But, get your own Margarita and eat here. I have tried all on the menu and have not been disappointed. Their Shrimp Cocktail is amazing. I… Read more

Are you guys open for dine in now?

Yes at the date of this response, it is open for limited capacity with booths inside. Outdoor dinning is also available.

Do they use any delivery service?

Sadly no. I wish they did.

Y doesnt the phone number work?

That happens when they're getting multiple calls at the same time. Keep trying. Someone will eventually answer.

Are you open for dine in?

At the date of this response, yes, at limited capacity.

    Can you make reservations?

No reservations available, however, there is a waitlist where you can dot your name and be listed in a queue.

Is there patio/outdoor seating? ....Salsa and Beer needs to change their Yelp page mentioning that they do have patio seating

Don't believe so. It's a small parking lot.

Does the refried beans/bean dip contain lard (pork)?

No they don't. I just called and verified. Only vegetable and canola oil.

Can we make reservations or how does the online waitlist work? Trying to go here for Father's Day.

No reservations unfortunately. Wait-list is when you go there and put your name down as well as phone number. They send you a text and you can check your place in line. We came here last night Saturday 6.8.19 at around 7pm it was a 40min wait. :(

My wife was deeply impressed. The sauce, the chips, the eggs, beans and rice were all very very good as well. All complimented each other very well. If you're ever in the van Nuys area, please stop here for breakfast, you won't regret it!

I had an appointment earlier and decided to meet up a friend…read morefor dinner. They mentioned this place which is fine as I've alway enjoyed each visit. Plus we were meeting early which also happy hour was still happening. I think it's from 3-6. Even at 5 in the afternoon, there was no parking in the lot. And the residential parking was pretty much packed. As I had my little pup with me, we needed a table outside. It's been a while since I was seated outside. Usually it's been in the bar area. They have a back gate at the patio but it was locked. First off, the place was packed. It's been a while since it's been like that. Or maybe I've only been coming during happy hour. Also, it's somewhat seems to be a thing where you have to ask for the happy hour menus. Anyways, their items are pretty decent for prices. Drinks specials and some of the food items are worth it. We alway get a pitcher of beer for the table to share. Food wise, a couple of the ceviche. Either fish or shrimp and that's served with a tostada chip. For 12.00, it's pretty decent in size and quite tasty. Between the fish or shrimp, I prefer shrimp better. Also, two street tacos for 5.00 with many choices of protein. Lastly, the loaded fried nachos for 12.00. Let's say when they mean loaded, it was loaded. That too comes with your choice of protein which I went with the al pastor. The food was great. Reasonable price and well portioned. Plus the chips and bean dip to start off. They also accommodate some salsas with chips which is nice. Before it would alway be the bean dips and you would have to ask for the salsa. If you want fresh guacamole, they have someone that will prepare it table side to your liking. This visit, there was also the mariachi band walking around asking people if that wanted any requests. The service was great, the staffs all are amazing and friendly. Some familiar faces which is nice.

I've been coming to El Taco Llama since I was 15 years old (I'm 31 now), so this place holds a lot…read moreof nostalgia for me. Over the last 4 years, I honestly felt like the quality across most locations had really gone downhill -- the meat didn't taste the same, the passion in the food wasn't there, and the employees often seemed rude or just completely over it. I stopped going altogether for about a year. Recently, I moved near this location and decided to give it one more shot... and I'm SO glad I did. This location brought back the early 2012 Taco Llama vibes. The food tasted fresh, the meat quality was on point, and everything felt like it was made with care. The employees were genuinely kind, quick, and efficient -- which already stood out. But what really impressed me was even the cook. At most locations, the cooks look angry or like they can't wait to clock out. The cook here, along with the short woman working with him, looked like a solid team. They were focused, calm, and actually seemed like they cared about what they were doing. You could feel the difference. Yes, $14 for a burrito is on the higher side -- I won't lie. But honestly? It was worth every dollar. The flavor, the nostalgia, the whole experience hit. I've been to over 6 different locations, and this is the ONLY one that truly brought back the original Taco Llama feel for me. 10/10. Highly recommend this location.

I have been meaning to try this restaurant for quite some time now and finally got the chance to…read more Went there to celebrate my mothers birthday. Let's start off with location wise it's very centrally located in the valley so you can get to it fairly quick. Parking was not it's best. It is on Ventura Blvd so street parking is very difficult. They do have onsite parking in the back but there's only about 5 spots only and it seems like most of them are take either by staff or delivery vehicles. Now walking into this place you are def transported into a very lively Mexican culture that is undeniably amazing. I loved the decor and how you just feel at home. They are playing music the whole time loud enough for you to feel the vibes but still be able to have conversations. Now the food let me just say 10/10. I had the mole the presentation is amazing and the taste of it is even better. My fiancé had the aguachiles con mango which he says are also a 10/10. Finally my mother ordered the queso birria tacos which were pretty good as well. The margarita flight was def my favorite, I am not a big margarita fan as they tend to be a bit sweet for my liking but these were actually pretty well balanced and delicious. Overall I had a great experience the service was good. Will def be coming back and will recommend.

Came in last night to celebrate a friend's birthday (they have happy hour all day Mon-Wed) and was pleasantly surprised. My friends started off ordering the HH guava margaritas, which they enjoyed. I ordered the coconut margarita (not on HH) a must !!!! Not overwhelmingly sweet and tasty! We ordered and rated the following dishes: Guacamole: 9/10 HH tinga Nachos: 7.5/10 (flavor was there but most chips were burnt) HH Taquitos papas: 9/10 great flavor and sauce HH steak tacos: 7.5/10 the corn and portion of meat to the taco was very good. The steak a little well done for my liking. Enchiladas verde: 9/10 great portion honestly enough for two to share. Rice and beans were okay. Beans a bit salty and rice was a bit bland. Would definitely come back for the apps and drinks! They also have brunch which looks like fun.
