Chicken, Steak, and Shrimp Fajitas
Marcus O.

My co-workers and I celebrated a good month at work. I read that they are famous for their fajitas, so I got the chicken, steak, and shrimp fajitas. The dish came out sizzling with a massive amount of food. The quality of the food was excellent, and it was so flavorful. It is a small restaurant, but it was not super loud. I could hear the conversations of my co-workers. There is only one bad thing about this location. The parking lot is way too small for how many businesses are in that shopping center. The flip side is that street parking is plentiful. There is a reason that this restaurant has been around for a while. Go there, have some great food, and enjoy yourself.

I absolutely love salsa and beer. Expect giant family style portions, and a fresh self serve salsa bar and some seriously good warm bean dip with their free chips. Their chicken enchiladas verdes are my personal favorite. I've always walked in and been seated, but the restaurant tends to get quite busy for good reason. Worth the drive!

Assuming you can be seated right away, if you're in a rush and want your food in less than 30 seconds, this is your place!! We still laugh about this - we literally ordered our fajitas and 2 chicken tacos and mine came out in no joke, 30 seconds and my husband's came out in 1 minute. Our friends who ordered 2 veggie burritos, theirs came out in about 3 minutes. It was unbelievable!!! And everything came out piping HOT. The biggest portions of my life. Their salsa bar is nice and love that it's accessible to everyone to get their own. We came on a Thursday at 6:30 pm and it took us 8 minutes to be seated indoors, but outdoor had ample seating. The last time I came here was at least a decade ago and now they have so many locations! I'll definitely be back sooner than that.

Had friends in today from out of town who were craving some good Mexican Food so we made our way over to Salsa and Beer! Despite it being the middle of the day and a Tuesday it was still hard to find parking and we parked on the side streets and walked. The main entrance is not well marked and we were pointed to the side door. On entering it was nice and air conditioned and we were seated quickly. Menus are on the qr codes on the table but the menu is hard to scroll through because you have to click each different items to look at and then scroll down and up. We asked for regular menus to make it easier and we were given menus that had hole punches throughout from punching out all the prices because I'm assuming prices have gone up. I hope that they could make the virtual menu a little easier to look at since i think they might be phasing out their physical menus. While we waited on our order we were given delicious chips and spicy bean dip which were excellent. So delicious. For salsa we were directed to the salsa bar. While I think the bar is cool, the tiny cups to get salsa are too small. I would have liked the bean dip sized bowl to get enough, instead of having to get several tiny cups which are hard to scoop from with the chips. I orderd the #7 which was a cheese enchilada, a crunchy beef taco, and rice and beans. My friends ordered two different taquitos plates, one orderd a fajitas plate, and the youngest got cheese quesedilla. My food was delicious but the portion was so large that I could only eat the taco and take the rest to go! Same with My friends, everyone ate maybe a 3rd to a half of the plate and then we all needed to go boxes. Overall a very delicious visit!

BIG fan of this place! I've probably been to 3/4 of their locations and have a great experience at each one. They each have their own personality but consistently great food! The fact that they provide complimentary bean dip, salsa and chips is what got me hooked. The bean dip is so good! This time I tried the chicken flautas and it was very delicious. The portions are huge so I took half home.

Spicy Chipotle Burrito

Salsa & Beer is a Valley staple, and for good reason! The food is consistently delicious and flavorful and the portions are literally humongous. One meal can easily be split between multiple people. My favorites are the green enchiladas and the spicy chipotle burrito, and the rice and beans are just as flavorful and delicious as the main entrees. Upon being seated, you are served a spicy and cheesy bean dip with fresh chips, and there is a salsa bar inside where you can fill up on your choice of salsas. I sat in the outside patio area in my most recent visit, and while the quality of the food didn't change, the service was not the greatest; my table and a couple of other tables had a difficult time flagging anyone down for refills, to go containers, or the bill. There's also a pretty big price difference between paying with card and paying with cash; multiple menu items were at least 3-4 dollars more if you plan to pay with card. Still, the food is good and if you're craving some hearty and comforting Mexican food, S&B is a good option.

I stopped by on a Tuesday evening and was surprised by how busy it was! They have a small parking lot and an outdoor patio. We decided to sit inside and were seated right away. They bring out complimentary chips and beans to start and there TVs inside if you want to hang out and watch a game. I ordered the chile relleno which came with rice and beans. The portions are big so you can definitely share! It's a good spot to check out if you are craving Mexican food.

Yes this is half my burrito plate the next day

Salsa & Beer is an iconic Valley staple. I still have memories of the line being out the door over 10 years ago. They are pretty popular to this day and I'm pleased business is thriving. Unfortunately, the prices have skyrocketed. I guess it's a sign of the times like a lot of places. S&B used to be known for good Mexican food at an affordable price. The food is still delicious (I love their beans and bean dip, and my bf really likes their rice). Just not in love with these prices. To get the most value, if you order one of the burritos, you can easily split it into two meals because they're pretty big. Got the chicken fajita burrito and had half for lunch yesterday and today. Suddenly, an almost $25 burrito turns into a couple of lunches for under $15.

The best bean dip!

I decided to stop by after having a long and exhausting week at work. I was surprised and happy when I arrived and there was no wait time, as this restaurant usually has a considerable wait. The ambiance at this restaurant is loud, crowded, and very high-energy. They offer both indoor seating and outdoor patio seating. I decided to order their tacos al carbon. I ordered two asada and two chicken tacos. My family also ordered a couple of other entrees. We were also offered complimentary chips and bean dip, which was some of the best I've ever had. The tacos had a smoky, slightly charred flavor. Now, let's talk about the service. This is where I had a major issue. For starters, our server, Cesar, had a bit of an attitude. He gave very short, unhelpful responses to our questions. When it came time to bring the check, he mentioned that gratuity was automatically included. However, nowhere on the check did it indicate that a gratuity charge is automatically added, which is information that is typically disclosed. I noticed that he had given himself a $28 tip. I paid the bill but was left feeling very skeptical. I decided to speak to a manager regarding the supposed automatic gratuity charge. The manager stated that gratuity is optional, not mandatory. I then explained that Cesar had told me it was automatically included. The manager then brought out Cesar, who became very confrontational and denied what he had said. He accused me of lying and claimed that I had willingly chosen to tip him $28 for the service. One thing I can't stand is dishonesty. Another manager stepped in and mentioned that Cesar had pulled this stunt with other customers and that several people had complained about the same issue. I hope that management takes appropriate action, as what Cesar did is considered unethical. I will not be stepping foot into this establishment again, and I suggest that anyone reading this reconsider as well.

Mocaljete Spicy Burrito - default side of rice & beans
Justin B.

Salsa & Beer #4 - Absolutely LOVE this establishment for authentic Mexican food. For the unfamiliar, S&B provides LARGE portions but no compromise of flavor. They have a salsa bar located in the dining area close to the kitchen. The green avocado salsa & red macha salsa are MUST-HAVES for any spicy-chasers. I always order their Mocaljete Spicy Burrito and their Taquito Trio Platter. This easily feeds me 2-3 meals worth. Service is usually stellar. I've had one slow experience out of 12 visits. Outdoor seating is available and the average wait time during peak hours for a party of 4 is about 10-20 min depending on your choice of seating area. Friends and family continue to make S&B #4 a regular eatery, truly a must-visit for those passing through the SFV.

Honestly, my mom use to like this place so this is why we came here, we placed an order of guacamole, it was seriously so disgusting, big chunks of tomato and it just didn't look appealing at all, extremely salty, my mom ordered the taquitos dorados which again had a big salad on top of them, with the chucks of tomatoes, we have never eaten the tacos dorados like that, they usually come with thinly sliced lettuce and crema on top, I ordered the shrimp enchilada plate, I took two bites and couldn't eat it, it was extremely salty, I told the waitress and they took it of my bill, it didn't help that the waitress wasn't friendly at all, my mom didn't eat her food decided to take it home which went directly into the trash. Too bad because we use to like the food here but service and food has gone down. Don't know what happened. Oh and good luck finding parking, it's a nightmare.

Asadas y camarones
Gail M.

Heard of this place from some coworkers. Came here at 7pm on Saturday so the parking lot was packed and the hostess said it was an hour wait time. We waited for less than 30 minutes and got our seat and the place was packed. Kind of loud but it's the okay kind. They provide a bowl of chips with beans while you wait. We got one burrito and combo of asadas y camarones. Food was 10/10 especially the steak. One plate can feed about 3 people so we had a lot to take home and the leftovers still taste good after!

Ask the Community - Salsa & Beer

Did they get their liquor license because a guy posted that he was at this location drinking a Cadillac margarita with tequila? Was it 🧢 and he wasn't at this one?

Do they deliver?

Great question. Not sure but give them a call as I'd assume some third-party service likely would accommodate if they do not deliver. It's worth it!

Are the margaritas made with tequila at this location?

Unfortunately, the answer is No.

What's the biggest party size they can accommodate?

Depends on day and how busy. They have down a party of 20 for us before if you call ahead and ask to reserve

Are there any gluten free options?

Not really. You can avoid the shells or tacos and just get meat options like fajitas. That's normally what I do

Does this place do reservations?

No, it can be a long wait

Can i bring my small dog if we eat outside?

Yes! They are pet friendly

Do they have Happy hour?

Yes! They did when we went!

Does salsa and beer do carering?

Yes they do! For any event

Is Salsa & Beer Latinx Owned?

Sounds like they are

Are the fried beans made with lard or oil?

I'vw called in the past to ask and they've told me they don't use lard

Are their margaritas made with tequila or is it those fake wine based "margaritas"?

they are wine-based, from the last time I ordered one. I do not believe they have a hard liquor license. But, get your own Margarita and eat here. I have tried all on the menu and have not been disappointed. Their Shrimp Cocktail is amazing. I…

Are you guys open for dine in now?

Yes at the date of this response, it is open for limited capacity with booths inside. Outdoor dinning is also available.

Do they use any delivery service?

Sadly no. I wish they did.

Y doesnt the phone number work?

That happens when they're getting multiple calls at the same time. Keep trying. Someone will eventually answer.

Are you open for dine in?

At the date of this response, yes, at limited capacity.

Can you make reservations?

No reservations available, however, there is a waitlist where you can dot your name and be listed in a queue.

Is there patio/outdoor seating? ....Salsa and Beer needs to change their Yelp page mentioning that they do have patio seating

Don't believe so. It's a small parking lot.

Does the refried beans/bean dip contain lard (pork)?

No they don't. I just called and verified. Only vegetable and canola oil.

Can we make reservations or how does the online waitlist work? Trying to go here for Father's Day.

No reservations unfortunately. Wait-list is when you go there and put your name down as well as phone number. They send you a text and you can check your place in line. We came here last night Saturday 6.8.19 at around 7pm it was a 40min wait. :(

They have a back gate at the patio but it was locked. First off, the place was packed. It's been a while since it's been like that. Or maybe I've only been coming during happy hour. Also, it's somewhat seems to be a thing where you have to ask for the happy hour menus. Anyways, their items are pretty decent for prices. Drinks specials and some of the food items are worth it. We alway get a pitcher of beer for the table to share. Food wise, a couple of the ceviche. Either fish or shrimp and that's served with a tostada chip. For 12.00, it's pretty decent in size and quite tasty. Between the fish or shrimp, I prefer shrimp better. Also, two street tacos for 5.00 with many choices of protein. Lastly, the loaded fried nachos for 12.00. Let's say when they mean loaded, it was loaded. That too comes with your choice of protein which I went with the al pastor. The food was great. Reasonable price and well portioned. Plus the chips and bean dip to start off. They also accommodate some salsas with chips which is nice. Before it would alway be the bean dips and you would have to ask for the salsa. If you want fresh guacamole, they have someone that will prepare it table side to your liking. Unfortunately, this visit left a bad taste in my mouth, and it had nothing to do with the food. We arrived approximately 15 minutes before happy hour ended, which was purely coincidental because I wasn't even aware of their happy hour schedule. Upon entering, I needed to use the restroom, so the person I was dining with was seated by the host. When I returned, I noticed we still hadn't received menus or been approached by a server, despite a waitress standing nearby looking directly at our table. Since no one had acknowledged us, my dining companion decided to walk over to the bar to take advantage of the happy hour specials. On his way back, he politely asked the waitress about getting menus. Her response was unnecessarily rude and unprofessional. She snapped, "This isn't self-seating! That's why you haven't gotten a menu!" She then proceeded to explain that it was her section. He calmly informed her that we had, in fact, been seated by the host. Rather than apologizing for her assumption, she went over to the host, said something while looking in our direction, and the host confirmed that he had indeed seated us. At that point, she disappeared into the kitchen, and another waitress approached our table. This second waitress was absolutely wonderful! She apologized for the confusion, took our drink order, and provided the level of hospitality you would expect when dining out. Unfortunately, the situation didn't end there. The original waitress continued making comments about us to coworkers as they passed by, making an already uncomfortable situation even more unpleasant. It was obvious that she had an issue with us, and rather than handling a simple misunderstanding professionally, she chose to make it everyone else's business. We eventually requested to speak with the general manager. He was understanding and offered us several $10 discount cards for future visits, along with a complimentary dessert, which I politely declined because I'm not much of a dessert person. I appreciated his attempt to make things right, but I want to make one thing very clear: We were not looking for discounts, free food, or special treatment. We simply expected basic respect and decent customer service. In fact, I ended up giving away the discount cards because, after that experience, I had no desire to return. The food was great, the drinks were good, and the waitress who stepped in to take care of us was fantastic. She deserves recognition for her professionalism and for turning an uncomfortable situation into a more pleasant dining experience. However, one employee's attitude can completely overshadow everything a restaurant does right. Customer service is about the CUSTOMER. You're not required to love every interaction, but you are expected to remain professional, respectful, and courteous. If dealing with customers bothers you that much, perhaps a warehouse position would be a better fit. It's unfortunate because La Popular has genuinely good food, but no amount of delicious queso fundido or complimentary desserts can make up for being treated like an inconvenience simply for walking through the door.

Came in last night to celebrate a friend's birthday (they have happy hour all day Mon-Wed) and was pleasantly surprised. My friends started off ordering the HH guava margaritas, which they enjoyed. I ordered the coconut margarita (not on HH) a must !!!! Not overwhelmingly sweet and tasty! We ordered and rated the following dishes: Guacamole: 9/10 HH tinga Nachos: 7.5/10 (flavor was there but most chips were burnt) HH Taquitos papas: 9/10 great flavor and sauce HH steak tacos: 7.5/10 the corn and portion of meat to the taco was very good. The steak a little well done for my liking. Enchiladas verde: 9/10 great portion honestly enough for two to share. Rice and beans were okay. Beans a bit salty and rice was a bit bland. Would definitely come back for the apps and drinks! They also have brunch which looks like fun.

I came here yesterday for a late lunch with a friend…read more It's a beautifully decorated restaurant. There are a lot of photo ops. It's definitely IG & TikTok friendly. When we got there, there was a DJ playing 80s/90s throwbacks. It was good music and vibes, but it was quite loud, we could barely hear ourselves speak. Luckily he wasn't there too long, as brunch-time was over. We ordered Mango margaritas, chips & salsa, birria tacos, tinga taquitos, elote, and chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Every single thing was delicious. I was highly impressed. This place will definitely be in the rotation. If I didn't live so far away, I would go for happy hour.
