Food and service was good. I sat at a table near the bar. Easy to have my drink refilled. Air conditioning was terrific on this hot day. I was able to get street parking nearby.

Parking on the street $1.50 per hour - meter Valet parking available No Dogs allowed Fresh chips & salsa, 1st basket complementary Table side guacamole was popular & looked delicious (on the list for next time) Booths, chairs, inside & outside available I really enjoyed the molcajete, it was my first time. The chicken was moist, the shrimp was perfect & the steak was nice and tender. Overall a good first visit. They even have fancy individually wrapped mint flavored toothpicks.

    Molcajete...always a winner!

I have been coming to Sol Y Luna for years, although it has been quite a while since my last visit. It was so great to be back! I met five other friends for lunch on a recent Friday and the restaurant was packed! I do not think that there has ever been a time that I have been at the restaurant when it wasn't full! When I arrived, tableside guacamole was already being prepared. Since it is always a go-to for me, I was happy that the group had ordered. One of my friends wondered if anyone would be interested in sharing a molcajete, which is my all-time favorite at Sol Y Luna, so needless to say, I didn't even look at a menu. There is a valet lot behind the restaurant. If you are up for walking a block west to Corbin, you can find completely free street parking. Otherwise, there are meters along Ventura Boulevard. Although every table in the restaurant was filled, the service was great and our table was checked on throughout lunch. We had a fun time, and everything was delicious.

Lol might be my new fave Mexican restaurant?! First of all this place is very Mexican whimsical. Very cute inside. The menu is quite big so that's nice. I love tamales so I got a combo plate and their tamales was really good!!! I also got a crispy taco and it was also really good!!! We also got a side of plátanos and they also were good. I know this is a valley staple so I'm so happy I finally tried it! I'd def be back!

I must update my review for this place, they earned it! I've tried the molcajete and tableside guacamole at other Mexican restaurants and nothing comes close to the taste and quality of sol y Luna! If you're on a diet or eating low carb they offer grilled veggie options instead of rice and cold veggies for dip vs their delicious chips :) Everything on the menu is delish! The margaritas are tasty and strong just don't buy the cheaper version it will taste watered down! Great service and food comes out quick! If you haven't tried it, what are you waiting for? It's always busy no matter day and time so be prepared to wait a lil bit but so worth it!

We came here last night to celebrate my wife birthday with her family. We called ahead to make reservations. This restaurant has valet parking for $10 in the back or there street parking, I chose street parking but it was only mad at 1 hour so I used the valet afterwards. We arrived on time and checked in but it still took about fifteen minutes to be seated. It's very compact and feel small inside of this restaurant. Our waitress was Martha and for the most part she was okay. It took three attempts for her to bring me my soda since she kept forgetting. She also forgot to bring me back my refill until I had to ask twice. I had almost the same issue yesterday at another restaurant, my drink was just a soda. I got the shrimp ceviche, chicken wings and my wife got the chicken mole. Her brother got the carne asada burrito. The food was okay but the service was slow with our waitress. What made the occasion special was that they'll sing happy birthday to you and give you a hat to wear so other people will know it's your birthday.

I loved everything about this restaurant. (Except parking) We came here for their molcajete. It's my friends favorite thing. And it is now my favorite. It's huge. Sharable for sure. I didn't drink but my friends enjoyed their skinny margaritas very much! Service was a little slow, but they made sure to keep us updated and the whole time. Very attentive. We sat outside. Lots of plants, spacious and fresh.

    Burrito de Carne Asada

I got the shrimp burrito and my friend the carne asada burrito. They were so good and huge portions so I ate half there and half the next day for dinner. Free chips and salsa were great I preferred the green. Very nice and quick service. We were there at dinner on a Tuesday and we didn't have to wait but it seemed pretty full. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very pretty inside but also very loud[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'll definitely be back

The restaurant took me back to the old Mexican restaurants of my youth with the large mural, decorative booths, and dark ambiance. I was told that the table side guac was a must, so I ordered that, a chicken tamal, and a side of rice. The tamal came with a side scoop of guac, so I got to taste the difference between the fresh guac and the 3-oz scoop on the menu. The table side was so worth it. When I cut into the tamal, the fresh corn smell really hit me, and the masa was very moist. I somehow ended up with mole on top, and it was a bit too earthy for me. The side rice was cooked perfectly and was a nice addition to my meal. The restaurant got busy very quickly as the lunch crowd arrived, so service felt a little inattentive. I never got a water refill and no one checked in with me between bringing my meal and bringing the check. I don't know if it was that I was sitting alone or if I was just so quiet that they forgot about me, but it would have been nice if they had asked if I needed anything else. Would I return, though? Sure.

Tried and true and always busy for a reason! Use the waitlist to put yourself "in line" for added convenience. The arroz con pollo and combo platters never disappoint. You MUST get tableside guacamole (I prefer it without tomato and a little spicy). Classic ambiance of a local Mexican place that's been around for over 20 years

My husband and I had a rare opportunity for a day-date and decided to check out Sol Y Luna in Tarzana. We came in around 3 PM on a Saturday, and to our surprise, the place was packed! Right away, we were greeted with complimentary chips and salsa, which were super fresh and flavorful. We also ordered a small side of guacamole, and it totally hit the spot. I tried the coconut blended margarita and it was a 10/10. The texture was smooth and icy (not watery or chunky like some places), and the coconut flavor was delicious without being overpowering. For our mains, I ordered the coctel de camaron, which was fresh and full of lime & veggies, and my husband had the chile Colorado burrito, which he enjoyed, but felt it was over-salted (which is saying a lot, because he is obsessed with salt). The food overall was tasty, and our server was friendly and attentive. That said, we did notice that our food took much longer to come out compared to other tables around us. It seemed like our order may not have been put in right away, which was a bit of a bummer. Still, the atmosphere was fun; the decor is colorful and festive, and there was upbeat music playing that added to the lively vibe. All in all, it was a great experience, and we'd definitely come back... maybe just not when we're super hungry!

Ask the Community - Sol y Luna

Do they offer brunch? and if so, what day and times?

I think they only have one menu. When we went there at night time and also looked at their menu on their website .. it's the same menu.

Do they currently offer happy hour?

Are there private rooms available for parties?

No private rooms are available. The restaurant is too small for private parties and they don't take reservations.

Do they offer a mild salsa on request?

I thought the salsa served with the complementary chips was very mild. That being said, I did not like the salsa. The chips were awesome- salty and warm.

    Do they take reservations?

    No, they don't

Are you guys taking reservations yet or still first come, first serve?

First come, first served. I called to ask this yesterday, 11/11/22.

Do you have any patio seating for dining at the restaurant or is it all pick up and delivery?

    They have patio dining

Are you open with the Curfew?

Just FYI, as of 7/14/2022 they are open until 10 PM Friday/Saturday and 9 PM the rest of the week.

Are you offering dine-in or takeout?

You can get on their waiting list through Yelp

What are you currently offering ? Is any dine in available?

Currently we are not offering dine-in however we do offer to-go and delivery through UberEats.…

Is the happy hour only on weekdays?

    Nope everyday

Do they have gift cards available?

Please Call them and find out.

Do they have taco Tuesday deals?

    They don't.

    Do they take reservations?

No, they do no take reservations.

Is it really a B rating like it says on yelp?

I'm not sure, but I like the food better at their sister property Senor Sol in northridge. I came here because a friend from out of town wanted to go. Guacamole and queso are good but the rest of the food is just meh...ok. Drinks too.

Opted for the latter to celebrate my sister's birthday. They had some giant fans but they weren't doing much help. We put some drinks in and got 2 ridiculously expensive tiny hamachi crudo plates. Then all of a sudden the fans stopped working. Our waiter informed us that there was no power in the entire restaurant inside or out. Correct me if I'm wrong but shouldnt places like these have back-up generators just in case? Shortly thereafter he came and told us LADWP would arrive in 1 hour which literally means 2 to 3 hours minimum so instead of having our dinner for breakfast we asked to close out our bill (which should have been comped but they did not even deduct anything for the tremendous inconvenience), after just two plates of Hamachi Crudo and four drinks. The bill was presented to me and I figured there's no way all of this costs $240 I said I want to see an itemized receipt they came back with a $160 bill so more shady shit thrown to the shade. Very grudgingly paid but just wanted to get the fuck out of there we went to Il Fornaio nearby and had a lovely meal and service, to salvage my poor sister's birthday. Needless to say but I will, the easiest one and done in my life and I've had quite a bit if you read my reviews. Inexcusable ridiculousness and zero compensation. It was complete chaos as people were canceling left and right and more people were flooding in as the reservations backed up I hope God helped them through the night. It's one thing to lose power unfortunate yes, but to not have a backup generator and then not even take care/compensate your customers is an abysmal excuse for management and a restaurant.

Paris, our server, was an absolute ray of sunshine. We decided to share a variety of dishes, which turned out to be the perfect way to experience the menu. The Lemon Gnocchi was light and delicate, the beet salad was fresh and beautifully balanced, and the Crispy Squash Blossoms stuffed with ratatouille were absolutely delicious. The Cold Hamachi Aguachile was probably the most interesting dish of the night. It's almost like a fish snow cone, which sounds odd until you try it. My mom would call it "moreish" because every bite makes you want another. The Jumbo Prawns à la Plancha were also excellent. But the standout for me was the Eggplant Parmesan. It was completely over the top in the best possible way. If you told me to come back and order nothing but the eggplant and a martini, I'd happily call that dinner. What really stood out beyond the food was the pacing. Dishes arrived at just the right rhythm, the cocktails were excellent, and the playlist somehow added to the atmosphere without competing with the conversation. I took photos of everything, which should tell you how beautiful the food was, but the best part was simply having a genuinely fun evening with friends.
