I just moved into the area about 3 months ago this place is waking Distance from me so I been here 7-8 times. Usually come for here happy hour. The ribeye tacos and chicken tacos are pretty good. Their happy hour menu is pretty good on food and drinks. As far as the service it's okay, I walked in tonight at 9pm and they close at 11pm but they said the patio had just closed. Staff is nice and attentive. Food is delicious!! Even the common sides like chips, guacamole, rice/beans are incredible. They take that seriously. We've gone at least 5 times since it opened. My experience at La Popular was simply okay. The ambiance is definitely gorgeous. The restaurant is well decorated. Where I fear they lost points was speed of service and in part, the food. We were seated for an entire inning of baseball on the TV before we were even greeted, let alone given waters. Roughly 10 minutes? I do want to say, our server was an angel. He was very helpful, patient, and nice. After putting in our orders for drinks, apps, and entrees all at once, it was interesting that our drinks came out much later than our appetizers. I had ordered the Maui mahi tacos. The tortillas of 2/3 of my tacos were basically mush. I ate one taco like a taco, and the other two I ditched the tortilla and made a little salad I guess. It's not necessarily that I had a bad experience, the flavors of the guacamole, steak chicharron, and my mahi mahi were definitely good, but other than that, it just wasn't anything to write home about. read more

We came here during the week for happy hour on a taco Tuesday, the prices were food options for happy hour were great. My sister comes here pretty often and have been telling us how good it is and it definitely lived up to the hype. The restaurant has a nice bar area in the middle of the restaurant and a covered outside patio area. La Popular is located at the Vineyards at Porter Ranch where all the other dine in restaurants are. There's a large parking lot here so there's lot of parking, but since this area is pretty busy you might have a little bit of a walk to get here. read more

La Popular offers a nice vibe in a dimly lit restaurant with modern decor and great bites. I was a big fan of the Shrimp Ceviche with Plaintain Chips and the Shrimp and Steak Fajitas. Both hearty, with fresh flavors, and perfect for sharing. Prices are decent for the portion and tastiness of the dishes. Great date spot, though they are also set up well for larger groups and family/friend outings. We've often walked in without a reservation and sat down without a wait. Service is warm and efficient. I couldn't believe this place was even moderately busy. The food left you wanting a bit more... 2 birria tacos for 20 bucks and more after tax and tip. Meat waa tender, but i had better on the streets of pacoima. The fajitas was decent and definately more filling for sure. Flavor wise... I think it'a lacking a bit. The ceviche was decent. Los Angeles county sprawls in every direction and so is blessed with dozens and dozens of beautiful, charming neighborhoods. One of these is Porter Ranch. I had not been there in a decade but decided to give a trendy restaurant, La Popular, a try this weekend. When we drove through the area, I was immediately struck by how lovely it is and the fact that it has developed into a major town. There is smart building evident everywhere. All the malls are well designed and pretty, and loaded with great places to eat and shop, some standards like Whole Foods and Mendocino Farms, others unique like La Popular. La Popular is located in The Vineyards, a terrific outdoor mall that has been thoughtfully laid out and landscaped. The parking is ample and there are places to relax outside with small playgrounds for the kids. There is even a water course. LP is huge and impressive as you approach and once inside, well, it is downright glamorous. The lighting is layered and subdued with elegant bespoke fixtures. There is a variety of seating from leathery banquettes to high top tables to a long and glittering bar. A patio outside provides shaded dining as well. The menu is wonderful and, as a vegetarian, I had to study it carefully as there were quite a number of items that I wanted to try. You can see the ones that made the cut, lol, in my photographs. Everything was delicious. Our server, Josie, was cheerful and efficient. Our dishes came out quickly and were piping hot. The tables are substantial solid wood, and the thick napkins and heavy flatware are tinted dark to match the overall decor. The effect is of an exclusive but airy club with niches for an intimate experience. All the building materials are high quality. There was an appealing mix of '80s/'90s music at just the right volume playing in the background, some of it World Beat. It is hard to think of something to change but one thing I would like to suggest to the owners is to offer beans that do not have lard. I love Mexican beans but all of them on this menu were made with animal fat -- not healthy or tasty. It can easily be substituted with vegetable oil. I had to do without beans and that was a major drawback for me. Other than that, this is a wonderful place for an almost perfect meal and we want to come back soon. read more

An amazing spot in the valley! Loved the ambiance, service, and food - can't wait to come back here again! The plates were well presented and worth it. The agua frescas flight was delicious, and a great menu item for those that don't drink. The salsa tray is a must-do ; the salsas were delicious and the card explaining each one was a great touch. Huge parking lot although parking can get busy during the weekends. Highly recommend making reservations so you don't have to wait. Came to "La Popular" this past Saturday evening and we were seated in the outdoor patio, luckily it was not actually outside and it was warm. Ambiance includes dimmed lights, pretty dark interior, loud and it was crowded that night. Out waitress was decent for the most part, except at times it felt like we were being rushed to place another order or what not. I tried the "queso fundido" (melted manchego cheese / served with corn and flour tortillas (+3 chorizo) --but it was not a hit on my page; the cheese was not as "stinky" as it could be, and it tasted plain. What gave it flavor was the chorizo's grease but not the best queso fundido I have had. 2/5 My friend decided to get a pineapple margarita (Chile Pineapple Mango Margarita Monte Alban Blanco / Ancho Reyes Chile / Pineapple / Mango / Lime) and I ordered their version of an old fashion "Oaxacan Old Fashioned" (Teremana Reposado / Mal Bien Espadin Mezcal / Agave / Bitters) For me, the old fashion was a hit 5/5 smooth and can taste mezcal in the sips but it was not overwhelming (yes old fashion made with tequila) must try if you are into these types of drinks. My friend loved this flavored margarita the best as well. We decided to order a margarita flight which was ok nothing spectacular on my opinion. It included flavors: Chile Pineapple Mango margarita, Watermelon hibiscus margarita and LP margarita. Once again the winner here was the Chile pineapple mango margarita. This place is good for drinks overall, we placed about three rounds of cocktail drinks and they were coming out rather quickly. I would have to give them another try as far a food goes. I love La Popular for their happy hour deals. They do regular happy hour, reverse happy hour, as well as all fay happy hour on taco tuesdays. They have a pretty good selection of happy hour selections: tacos, different chips and salsas, and pretty basic drink selections. It's never too loud inside that you can still hear whoever you're with for a great catch up session. Service can be a little hit or miss sometimes. Some days it's impeccable and other days you'll really have to intentionally flag someone down for water (the cups are really tiny as well). Pricing is decent and the food is delicious. The main plates menu isn't always worth it however the drinks, tacos, and the small plates are worth coming back for every time. read more

I first found La Popular in Porter Ranch through Uber Eats and decided to visit in person, and wow! The decor stunned me: low lighting, romantic vibes, perfect for a date night. Ambience was definitely the highlight here. The restaurant has a great vibe, lively atmosphere, and overall feels like a fun place to spend an evening. Drinks were also solid with no complaints there. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting. We ordered ceviche for my son and specifically asked the server if it could be non-spicy and without avocado. We were told it wasn't spicy, although it was pre-made and they couldn't remove the serrano peppers. It ended up being spicy enough that my 7-year-old, who normally loves ceviche, couldn't eat it at all. Starting dinner with a disappointed and hungry kid definitely set the tone for the rest of the meal. The enchiladas suizas de pollo were very basic. The sauce lacked flavor, and the chicken felt average at best. The rice tasted old and dry and wasn't really edible beyond a few bites. The beans, however, were actually pretty good and probably the most flavorful part of the plate. Overall, great ambience and good drinks, but the food felt bland and inconsistent, especially considering the expectations set by the atmosphere. read more

I met some friends there yesterday for their Taco Tuesday special and happy hour. First time trying it out. Food was delicious! Everything we ordered was really good! Quality ingredients. We had the Queso Fundido with Chorizo and flour and corn tortillas. It was definitely comfort food taken to a higher level. So flavorful and satisfying. I had a carnitas taco which was amazing and a rib eye taco costra style. Wow! The steak was so tender and seasoned to perfection. I must say having it made costra style made it one of the best tacos I've ever had. First time I've tried a costra style taco. I'm a fan! The chile pineapple mango margarita was also over the top delicious. Service was very good. A bit noisy when there's a lot of people inside. Stopped by for some drinks and to watch the Laker game.... It was a good decision! Located inside of a shopping plaza in Porter ranch, this place has a very nice ambiance. Dim lights and great for any occasion.... Birthday to date night. They have indoor and outdoor seating for dinning and for the bar. The drinks were good and they have a good happy hour menu as well. The bartender was very nice and friendly and gave good recommendations. They have a full bar but I opted to try some of their signature drinks on the menu. Although I cannot really speak on the food....(I only came for drinks)... the food did look delicious as the servers passed us by to deliver food to other tables. While this restaurant has a nice ambiance, I was so deeply disappointed in their portion sizes. Now, although I understand restaurants have become quite pricey over the years, I cannot understand how this fajita combo plate ($34) is justified with a tiny piece of chicken and a tiny piece of steak. Insult to injury, it was served with two pieces of corn tortillas and one piece of flour tortilla. After making the manager aware of our issue, she simply told us to order more food next time. Met a friend for dinner. We shared the ceviche and it was very good except the balance of fish to shrimp was off. Plenty of Mahi but only 2 shrimp. I had my usual Baja tacos which were good! My friend enjoyed the Quesabirria. The music from the live band was nice and the atmosphere was pleasant. Our server was friendly and helpful. The only snafu occurred when my friend ordered a Marguerita and wanted to substitute the tequila with vodka. She was told there would be a $12 up-charge to do so (WTH!). She spoke to the manager who said he tried to make an adjustment in the system. His result was an $11 up-charge. Of course, she passed. It sounded as if the problem is corporate and local staff have little ability to make modifications. That's when it felt like the old La Popular -- inflexible. Still good food and a nice ambience. I went with both HH margarita specials: $8.5 LP margarita $9.5 spicy pineapple mango margarita Both were really good! Great quality and nothing tasted artificial. I enjoyed both equally. They have tacos for $4 on the HH Menu and I went with carnitas and ribeye. They were both really good. The carnitas taco had a good amount of meat and was tastyyyy. I have to give the edge to the ribeye taco though. It comes with a cheesy costra and the ribeye meat is TENDER. I was told on Tuesdays these tacos are $3 each sooooo TACO TUESDAY is the place to be! Came here last Friday for my aunts bday. Of course no reservations on a Friday at 645pm, about a 40 min wait Parking at this shopping center is a mission in itself that can take up to 30 mins. Not even sure how to get around it. I debated parking at the hotel across the street or the Best Buy shopping center before getting lucky. Edm music throughout the night like you're in a nightclub. The Yelp reviews looked good, averaging 4.3 stars, but on Google it rated only a 3.8, which had deterred my dining companion. La Popular is located at The Vineyard at Porter Ranch, a classy shopping center with a cool nearby climbing structure for the young. Service was great here. Not only did they provide chips and salsa gratis, but refills were brought out with nary a suggestion from us! I had my first birria taco experience here, and it was great! In reading the menu, I thought two tacos a bit light in portion, but they arrived well filled with tender braised short rib and was served with a portion of Mexican rice and refried beans for $19. The spice wimp that I am was able to handle the limited heat from both the salsa and my lunch entree. I came here with my mom and sister over the weekend and we had such a great experience! La Popular is located in Porter Ranch, right next to the AMC, Finney's (also delicious) and Whole Foods so the location is super convenient with lots of places around. The vibe inside is on the darker side, but it feels really nice...perfect for dinner with family or friends, and it would also work well for a romantic date. The bar looked amazing (even though we sat at a booth, I'd definitely come back just to sit at the bar sometime). Service was excellent. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive, and when she heard us speaking Spanish with my mom, she immediately switched over, which my mom really appreciated, since she feels more comfortable speaking Spanish. Huge plus in my book! Food was absolutely delicious. We started with the salsa tray...so good, and the "salsa llorona" (habanero based) was my favorite! I ordered the cheese enchiladas, while my mom and sister had the carne asada. Everything was flavorful and cooked perfectly. For drinks, I had a mojito, my sister had a margarita, and both were delicious. To finish, we shared the flan and butter cake , which were creamy, smooth, and the perfect way to end the meal. The restaurant upon entering is very nice, and the ambiance was cozy with an upscale vibe. I ordered the Carnitas Tacos, Birria Burrito and a side of Street Corn. Every item came out fresh tasting and hot. Our server Janessa was amazing!! If you plan on going, make sure to request a table in Janessa's section. I made sure to let her manager know well she took care of our table along with the three-four other tables she had to serve. The Chile Pineapple Mango Margarita on the Happy Hour menu had a very well balanced amount of alcohol, unlike many happy hour bars drinks that are very water down and overpriced. *Delayed post from June '25 What a fun date night spot! This Mexican restaurant is located in an outdoor mall with water features and grape vines, a movie theater, and plenty of shopping opportunities with a massive parking lot. We were given the option to sit outside, but unfortunately their patio is enclosed, so you can't enjoy the outside breeze and it feels significantly hotter than the surrounding area. The inside however is a total vibe with low lighting from table tea lights, plant walls and vibrant blue neon signs. There are lounge chairs/sofas, a bar, booths and regular tables to choose from for every occasion, with lo-fi techno and EDM thump tracks playing in the background. Food-wise, everything was a hit, though some adjustments could be made here and there. The chips and salsa were really good, featuring a slightly chunkier salsa that's smoky and slightly spicy. The tortilla chips are really thin, crispy and freshly fried, though we found out they don't make their tortillas in-house, so they probably just cut and fry them from a preferred brand. They aren't salted, which normally I would argue should be a given, but it allows the salsa to shine. The Corn Off the Cob Salad was the best discovery in my opinion because it presented familiar flavors and textures in a new and balanced way! It's topped with a parmesan and ground chili mix that traditionally coats elote, which complements the heavy lime dressing and chunks of creamy avocado really well, and corn nuts for an added crunch. The banana peppers and raw onions add a nice spicy kick over mild greens and a slight bitterness from the arugula. The queso fundido is served in a very shallow pan, which allows more of the cheese to crisp up on the bottom, while the top is broiled. The corn tortillas served on the side have an unexpected coat of sweetness. The rice was unexpectedly spicy, but still tasty. The shrimp in the fajitas were juicy and cooked well, but the chipotle sauce on top overpowers all other flavors on the plate. The steak was nothing special, but thankfully not overcooked or dry. The onion and peppers really brought the fajitas together with a caramelization that made them soft, yet still had a bite. read more

So happy they are open on Christmas! Phew! We were not planning on going out, but we ended up being in a 5 hour power outage at home. I was very hungry and looked up what was open. Happily La Popular was open! It was a lil before 2:30pm when we walked in. We sat at the bar. Seth greeted us and took our order. We ordered a LP margarita with tajin and the queso fundido with chips and salsa. We ordered a birria burrito to share but there was a mishap and our burrito never came. But that ended up being ok. The fundido was so yummy and cheesy and rich that the birria would have been too much for me. The cheese paired great with the chips (which we opted for over the tortillas). Seth was nice and made the mishap right. Thank you! We ordered shrimp tacos à la carte instead and they were perfect! So yummy! Perfect amount of food. They came out fresh and hot.
