Food and drinks are good. The place is cute inside. But the prices are high for the type and amount of food. Probably wouldn't go back on my own.

45 min wait to be seated. 1 hr wait for food. Food portions are wayyyyyyy too small for the price. We ordered the tacos with rice and beans. The fish tacos were cold. The Rib Eye tacos with cheese were very delicious, it was a shame they were so small. I would say order a few things. The place was packed! The server was friendly, the place was very dark!

Went in for happy hour Audrey was our server She was very nice and polite Loved the interior! one of the prettiest restaurants in the valley Happy hour was kind disappointing I got the order of guacamole which is 8-9 dollars Each taco is around 4 dollars Free chips and salsa with meal. Food was good my only complaint is on the guacamole way too expensive for what it is. At least have it made tableside if you're charging close to 10 dollars for about 4oz of guacamole. Lowkey if you got three chicken tacos it would have the same amount of guac. Plus they already give you chips!

Stopped in here before going to the movies. I was excited to try La Popular due to the positive reviews on Yelp. Upon being seated, we were almost immediately greeted by our server Maria, who was very friendly and took our drink orders right away. I ordered the birria burrito which states on the menu right above that all plates come with rice and beans, so I assumed this was included in that category. I received my burrito with no rice and beans. I asked our server and she stated that the burrito does not come with rice and beans. She said she could bring a side of each anyway to which I replied, "that's okay." I thought it was pretty strange that a $19+ burrito did not include rice and beans but I accepted the fact. Maria ended up bringing a side of rice and beans anyway at no charge, which I thought was very nice until after when I looked up the menu and I was right in thinking that I did read that it came with those sides. The menu does in fact state that all plates come with rice and beans. Anyway, not a huge deal but the food is pretty pricey and I wish I could say that I would come back to eat here, but I felt it was very mediocre for the price. The burrito was just okay. Nothing too flavorful or memorable. Salsas were just okay too. The restaurant does have a nice ambiance for grabbing drinks. I just wish the food was a little better because I frequent the AMC next door weekly and I love Mexican food. Unfortunately, they missed the mark on the food quality for the prices they offer. The food isn't disgusting or anything, just nothing worth going back for. Also, toward the end of our dinner, we felt like we were somewhat forgotten about, as we didn't see our server for a while and we wanted to get our check and leave as we had a movie to see.

My experience at La Popular was simply okay. The ambiance is definitely gorgeous. The restaurant is well decorated. Where I fear they lost points was speed of service and in part, the food. We were seated for an entire inning of baseball on the TV before we were even greeted, let alone given waters. Roughly 10 minutes? I do want to say, our server was an angel. He was very helpful, patient, and nice. After putting in our orders for drinks, apps, and entrees all at once, it was interesting that our drinks came out much later than our appetizers. I had ordered the Maui mahi tacos. The tortillas of 2/3 of my tacos were basically mush. I ate one taco like a taco, and the other two I ditched the tortilla and made a little salad I guess. It's not necessarily that I had a bad experience, the flavors of the guacamole, steak chicharron, and my mahi mahi were definitely good, but other than that, it just wasn't anything to write home about.

We came here during the week for happy hour on a taco Tuesday, the prices were food options for happy hour were great. My sister comes here pretty often and have been telling us how good it is and it definitely lived up to the hype. The restaurant has a nice bar area in the middle of the restaurant and a covered outside patio area. La Popular is located at the Vineyards at Porter Ranch where all the other dine in restaurants are. There's a large parking lot here so there's lot of parking, but since this area is pretty busy you might have a little bit of a walk to get here.

La Popular offers a nice vibe in a dimly lit restaurant with modern decor and great bites. I was a big fan of the Shrimp Ceviche with Plaintain Chips and the Shrimp and Steak Fajitas. Both hearty, with fresh flavors, and perfect for sharing. Prices are decent for the portion and tastiness of the dishes. Great date spot, though they are also set up well for larger groups and family/friend outings. We've often walked in without a reservation and sat down without a wait. Service is warm and efficient. I have not had a bad experience here. Free parking in the plaza, which gets crowded often.

Really good food! As a little bit more upscale Mexican restaurant I would say it's good for what you expect. Portion sizes might be small but it's good! Service is good. Order the Valentine's Day 3 course meal a was good. Carne asada medium rare is the way to go! It's bit pricey if you are looking for a nice big amount of food. It is more for the experience and ambiance. The drinks hit the spot. With the Margarita flight

Spotless, immaculate, pristine everywhere you look, even on after a busy weekend.

Los Angeles county sprawls in every direction and so is blessed with dozens and dozens of beautiful, charming neighborhoods. One of these is Porter Ranch. I had not been there in a decade but decided to give a trendy restaurant, La Popular, a try this weekend. When we drove through the area, I was immediately struck by how lovely it is and the fact that it has developed into a major town. There is smart building evident everywhere. All the malls are well designed and pretty, and loaded with great places to eat and shop, some standards like Whole Foods and Mendocino Farms, others unique like La Popular. La Popular is located in The Vineyards, a terrific outdoor mall that has been thoughtfully laid out and landscaped. The parking is ample and there are places to relax outside with small playgrounds for the kids. There is even a water course. LP is huge and impressive as you approach and once inside, well, it is downright glamorous. The lighting is layered and subdued with elegant bespoke fixtures. There is a variety of seating from leathery banquettes to high top tables to a long and glittering bar. A patio outside provides shaded dining as well. The menu is wonderful and, as a vegetarian, I had to study it carefully as there were quite a number of items that I wanted to try. You can see the ones that made the cut, lol, in my photographs. Everything was delicious. Our server, Josie, was cheerful and efficient. Our dishes came out quickly and were piping hot. The tables are substantial solid wood, and the thick napkins and heavy flatware are tinted dark to match the overall decor. The effect is of an exclusive but airy club with niches for an intimate experience. All the building materials are high quality. There was an appealing mix of '80s/'90s music at just the right volume playing in the background, some of it World Beat. It is hard to think of something to change but one thing I would like to suggest to the owners is to offer beans that do not have lard. I love Mexican beans but all of them on this menu were made with animal fat -- not healthy or tasty. It can easily be substituted with vegetable oil. I had to do without beans and that was a major drawback for me. Other than that, this is a wonderful place for an almost perfect meal and we want to come back soon.

I couldn't believe this place was even moderately busy. The food left you wanting a bit more... 2 birria tacos for 20 bucks and more after tax and tip. Meat waa tender, but i had better on the streets of pacoima. The fajitas was decent and definately more filling for sure. Flavor wise... I think it'a lacking a bit. The ceviche was decent. Wish the chips that came with it were a little wider so I could actually put them on it. Service wise I think we waited about 20 min for our check. Friendly staff otherwise. Definately too loud to have a decent conversation across the table.

An amazing spot in the valley! Loved the ambiance, service, and food - can't wait to come back here again! The plates were well presented and worth it. The agua frescas flight was delicious, and a great menu item for those that don't drink. The salsa tray is a must-do ; the salsas were delicious and the card explaining each one was a great touch. Huge parking lot although parking can get busy during the weekends. Highly recommend making reservations so you don't have to wait. But even if you do, there is so much to see and walk to in this plaza.

The bar, left of the entrance.

Service is good. Parking is horrible. You have to be lucky to find spot. Food is served wonderful but if you want a real Mexican food, this is not the place. If you're into bougie type of food, you've hot it.

Came to "La Popular" this past Saturday evening and we were seated in the outdoor patio, luckily it was not actually outside and it was warm. Ambiance includes dimmed lights, pretty dark interior, loud and it was crowded that night. Out waitress was decent for the most part, except at times it felt like we were being rushed to place another order or what not. I tried the "queso fundido" (melted manchego cheese / served with corn and flour tortillas (+3 chorizo) --but it was not a hit on my page; the cheese was not as "stinky" as it could be, and it tasted plain. What gave it flavor was the chorizo's grease but not the best queso fundido I have had. 2/5 My friend decided to get a pineapple margarita (Chile Pineapple Mango Margarita Monte Alban Blanco / Ancho Reyes Chile / Pineapple / Mango / Lime) and I ordered their version of an old fashion "Oaxacan Old Fashioned" (Teremana Reposado / Mal Bien Espadin Mezcal / Agave / Bitters) For me, the old fashion was a hit 5/5 smooth and can taste mezcal in the sips but it was not overwhelming (yes old fashion made with tequila) must try if you are into these types of drinks. My friend loved this flavored margarita the best as well. We decided to order a margarita flight which was ok nothing spectacular on my opinion. It included flavors: Chile Pineapple Mango margarita, Watermelon hibiscus margarita and LP margarita. Once again the winner here was the Chile pineapple mango margarita. This place is good for drinks overall, we placed about three rounds of cocktail drinks and they were coming out rather quickly. I would have to give them another try as far a food goes. Large parking lot in the plaza is a plus.

The manager (I believe) also checked on us a couple times throughout our dinner and service overall was 5/5. We were seated outside on the patio area and thankfully, there were heaters, as it got chillier than I anticipated at night! We ordered the side wedge, the buffalo wings, the smashburger and a side of truffle fries. The food was fantastic and came out VERY quickly (maybe like 5 minutes)! The side wedge is a perfect starter size and the smashburger was tasty and filling. I didn't love the cherry peppers on the smashburger but that's on me for not asking them to be removed. It was still good overall, just a little spicy. The wings were decent (7/10). The truffle fries were perfectly crispy with a good truffle flavor. However, in my two most recent visits, only the atmosphere has remained a highlight -- the service has declined significantly. My most recent visit was two nights ago, on Father's Day, for a celebratory dinner. Our server was curt and unwelcoming throughout the meal. When my glass of wine arrived, the server suggested I taste it first -- which I did -- and it was immediately apparent that the wine had turned. Having ordered the same wine many times before without issue, I was confident this particular bottle was off. When I asked our server if the bartender could open a fresh bottle, she agreed without hesitation. However, moments later, a gentleman I assumed to be the manager approached and informed me that a new bottle would not be opened, as the current one had only been opened the day before and was, in his opinion, fine. His only alternative was to offer the same varietal at a higher price point. I understand that restaurants may have policies regarding open bottles, but in all my years of dining out, I have never encountered an establishment that refused to replace a glass of wine a guest found unacceptable -- especially when the server herself had encouraged me to taste it for that very reason. This experience left a lasting negative impression, and unfortunately I will neither return nor recommend this restaurant going forward.

So I understand it's busy and exhausting but I feel like many things fell through. Our reservation was for 630 and did not get seated till past 7. We had a toddler in the group and it was pretty crucial to get an early time so the child wouldn't get too tired and wired. For whatever reason they sat us and that too at two separate tables which is not so bad. At least we were next to each other. The menu did not seem so clear so one in our party realized there was peanut in the sauce for the wings. It may be on the menu but there are restaurants who prioritize asking about allergies regardless when they take the order. So wish they had. That in itself makes customers feel good and confident about being there. I'm sure being a day of celebration made it hard but hoping for better experience in the future

The energy was electric, as there was a Mexico soccer game on for the World Cup. We ordered some asada fries and birria tacos, and both were super tasty. The asada fries in particular were a generous portion and you felt like you got your money's worth (a challenge in this economy). The vibe inside is very chill and the lights are down low. I loved the trees inside and always appreciate the color the painted skulls add to the space. A couple small things...first, we didn't get the food for a long while after we ordered. Probably around 35 minutes, and happy hour finished in the in-between, so it was too late to add to our order if we had wanted to. Second, I noticed that sometimes the silverware is not 100% clean (this has happened to me at 2 locations), so i make sure to check that I'm not getting anything dirty and mention it to the servers. They always promptly replace it, but it'd be nice if that was not happening in general. Anyway...love the deals here, the flavors are on point, and the atmosphere is fun. What more could you want?

I came for lunch Friday afternoon around noon with 3 others and it was pretty busy as it was peak lunch time. You can tell it's a popular spot. You order at the counter first and then get a spot. They have both indoor and outdoor seating, but it was super windy the day we came, so no one was sitting outside. I got the Alex burrito without cheese and sour cream for $13.25. Asked for a recommendation for the meat and was told their al pastor is really good, so I went with that. I liked that they call you as they're making your burrito, so you can customize it further (which kind of salsa, onions and cilantro, do you want it cut in half, etc.). As a picky eater, I really appreciated that. We all got burritos, and one friend paid an extra 3 bucks to make it wet. Chips come on the side, and you can help yourself to salsa at their fresh salsa bar. This is the first taqueria I can remember that has a mild tomato salsa without raw onion and very little cilantro. I was excited to see that finally there's a salsa I can eat. My Alex burrito was one of the best burritos I've had imo. The proportion of meat to beans to rice was perfect and the rice tasted great. The al pastor was amazing: super flavorful and smoky. I usually feel like most burritos taste about the same to me, but I definitely found myself enjoying this one more than usual, which says a lot. Also, they're generously sized here. I wasn't able to finish mine despite my best efforts and packed the last quarter to bring home for dinner. I'd like to end my review by mentioning how polite and friendly everyone was, from the guy taking our order to the guy making the food. I was really impressed by this as well, since taquerias usually aren't exactly known for their service. I can't wait to come back!

They do it right. In addition the guys that work there are so friendly. Always quick service and the place is always clean. We will be back again and again.
