Unfortunately it seems like Makenna fell for the MAHA nutrition misinformation and nonsense and think cooking their food with beef tallow is healthier for you than cooking with seed oils. *Sigh As someone who has an education in nutrition and health, I have to say this was disappointing to see especially after looking forward to ordering their food. FYI beef tallow is not healthier to cook with than seed oils. Seed oils in isolation is not inherently bad for you. In fact, there's an abundance of evidence that shows seed oils aka polyunsaturated fats reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and LDL cholesterol. The part that gets misunderstood (especially if you're relying on social media and influencers for health advice) is seed oils are usually used to cook ultra processed food which is a COMBINATION of high fat content, refined carbs, excess sodium and added sugars. So it's not the seed oils alone that's unhealthy. Polyunsaturated fats are a healthier alternative to saturated fats like beef tallow which is silly to consider for cooking because you're just adding more saturated fats which raises LDL cholesterol and increase the risk of heart health. So yeah thanks for coming to my TED talk. But in all seriousness just felt the need to spread the word. Really wish Makenna can just go back to cooking without beef tallow and then I can try their breakfast burrito and all the other deliciousness! Everything else was chill though. I'll still be coming back for their amazing drinks.

They do have a wide selection that includes seltzers and cider. And on Thursday it's thirsty Thursday meaning you can score deals on select drinks! Like 2.50 for select beers. I ordered the cheese enchiladas Suizas and they were a 10/10. Not comparable to most enchiladas I've had but the sauce was fantastic and unique. I really loved these enchiladas and I'd honestly get them again. Solid flavor in the rice and beans as well. My friends also enjoyed their meal and it seemed like everyone was happy. The pricing is a little steep for Mexican food but also the ambiance and presentation make sense to me why it'd be a little more. For the three of us the bill was over $100. And that's for three mains and three non-alcoholic drinks. Normally at $33-ish a person I'd hope for at least a beer with my enchiladas, so keep that in mind. As a special occasion place or a spot to celebrate this spot is truly fantastic. And also the appearance of the employee should all maintain a certain type of uniform and not all wearing different pieces of garment. All employees with no exceptions should all be wearing hair, nets, and or hats to cover their hair particles from falling into any of food preparation none of the employees whatsoever we're wearing any hat, nets or hats. This was a big concern for me. Food handling, and food safety is very imperative.. I recently visited this Kulturas, and I plan to write a yelp review on this new business soon, after I have had a few more visits here and I've solidified my opinion. However, now that Kalaveras has closed, I'd like to post my review on my experiences here. I have been to this Kalaveras about a dozen times over the last few years. Throughout all my experiences the food and the drinks were always very good, and I had no problems whatsoever. The service at this Kalaveras was very good most of the time, and I only experienced one bad waitress with a bad attitude. The atmosphere here was always clean, vibrant and inviting. The only problem that seemed to exist was that this restaurant was VERY LOUD inside, so much so that the people I regularly go to restaurants with often did not want to come here. I've seen other folks mention how loud it was at this Kalaveras in their yelp reviews as well. This atmosphere appeared to be targeted for an audience in their twenties, and in large groups, especially for folks looking for a club/night-life environment. Unfortunately, I believe this environment was just annoying to older folks, or even any age group of people who actually wanted to hear the person with whom they were talking. Overall, this Kalaveras was a very good restaurant with very good service, with only one major flaw: the loud noise. From my first experience at Kulturas, it appears that the owners and managers here are trying to make improvements, and they are trying to transition this restaurant from a 3-star or a 4-star location to a 5-star location.
