Welp I got to stop by this Makenna after wanting to check it out for a while now. I believe there's more food options here than the other ones so I was excited to see what they had to offer. I ended up ordering their Cookie Butter Latte and it was so delightful. So far, all their drinks are spectacular but I think it's the Maui milk that just hits every time. Now the interesting part was that they advertise cooking with Beef Tallow which I found disappointing. Unfortunately it seems like Makenna fell for the MAHA nutrition misinformation and nonsense and think cooking their food with beef tallow is healthier for you than cooking with seed oils. *Sigh As someone who has an education in nutrition and health, I have to say this was disappointing to see especially after looking forward to ordering their food. FYI beef tallow is not healthier to cook with than seed oils. Seed oils in isolation is not inherently bad for you. In fact, there's an abundance of evidence that shows seed oils aka polyunsaturated fats reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and LDL cholesterol. The part that gets misunderstood (especially if you're relying on social media and influencers for health advice) is seed oils are usually used to cook ultra processed food which is a COMBINATION of high fat content, refined carbs, excess sodium and added sugars. So it's not the seed oils alone that's unhealthy. Polyunsaturated fats are a healthier alternative to saturated fats like beef tallow which is silly to consider for cooking because you're just adding more saturated fats which raises LDL cholesterol and increase the risk of heart health. So yeah thanks for coming to my TED talk. But in all seriousness just felt the need to spread the word. Really wish Makenna can just go back to cooking without beef tallow and then I can try their breakfast burrito and all the other deliciousness! Everything else was chill though. When it first opened I thought it was just okay, but they've really dialed it in. This is now the spot if you want a proper smash burger. The burgers have that crispy edge you want, good flavor, and they don't overcomplicate it. Service is quick too. Even when there's a giant line you're never standing around forever. I actually chose this location for a moms meetup because I wanted our group to have the opportunity to enjoy the food, drinks, and atmosphere together. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. I was told that I couldn't reserve a table for our group or put up any kind of signage to help everyone find us. While I understand businesses have their own policies, I was disappointed by the lack of willingness to accommodate a group of customers who were there to support the business and make purchases. The one person who truly made a difference was Nick. He was kind, helpful, and went out of his way to make us feel welcome. He was the only employee who offered assistance, and he is the reason this review is getting 3 stars instead of 1. Everyone in our group purchased food and drinks, and we appreciated the opportunity to try the menu. However, based on the overall experience and customer service, I personally won't be returning. I just moved to Simi valley from the San Fernando valley and ever since I tried this place for the 1st time after moving here, I have been glued to this place. I have tried the Maui Latte iced, the Cabo San Lucas iced, and the Fall Aloha Pumpkin Spice Latte Hot, and every single drink has been 10/10. I don't know what they're doing but they are doing something right, and all my interactions so far with their employees have been so welcoming and kind! I love it here. Love Makenna coffee so I stopped by the Beach House. Amazing prices and I adore the large selection of sauces! Also, the vibe of this restaurant is rare to find in Simi -- chill, but not boring! ITS FREEZING IN HERE . It will be wonderful in July , not so much in Decembrrrrr. Good thing i had a coat in the car . The tacos here are amazing! I had the Lonestar and the brisket was so incredibly tender . a tiny bit dry but nothing a little sauce didn't solve . The Pier is to die for teriyaki shrimp and pineapple the seasoning nicey spicey exactly how i like it ! I went back for seconds on the Pier . The shrimp was perfect not rubbery or overcooked . The only thing i would improve and i'll ask for next time , double tortilla on the Pier as it's pretty juicy and mine fell apart . It's a finger food so i indulged . We finally made it here for lunch. It was kinda underwhelming after hearing all the hype. First off I with I had gotten the name of the young man who took our order .... He was so nice and so friendly and very helpful. We got there at about 11:35 am, just before the lunch rush and still there was only one table available inside. It was dirty but it was too hot to eat outside so we took it. We ordered a smash burger, chicken sandwich and the fire fries. Everything was so so except the shrimp taco, it was pretty darn good. The other two nothing to go back for. The prices are very reasonable, both were around $7.00. I would definitely say this is a young persons place to grab lunch. The music was a bit loud and the seating is not at all comfortable. Also we were there for about a half hour and there was plenty of turnover at the tables and I never once seen an employee come out and wipe down the tables. And I saw plenty of people fall into the same category as us and just take a dirty table because there was no other choice. End of story we gave it a try but probably won't be back. read more

Establishment was clean, ordering was fast and easy but menu was small and can be hard to read if you don't have great eye sight. Food came out in minutes and had a big selection of sauces for your tacos or burgers. Initially came in for tacos and then realized that one taco for $4-$5 was outrageous so I got a smash burger because I thought the pricing was a bit more sensible. Smash burger is nothing to write home about and is smaller than it seems. Flavor tasted like my dad made something similar on his grill at home. Carne asada fries seems to also lack flavor but is the right amount of flavor for the people of Simi Valley. Thin cut fries with a weird imbalance of fries to sauce. I prefer half and half but they were really heavy on the toppings. Would come again if I really just needed a burger that wasn't in n out but I typically go to Makenna for their coffee. Stopped for coffee on a Saturday morning on our way out of town. Our first time at this location. I ordered my usual Iced Mint Mojito then waited 15 minutes for it to be finished. The place was moderately busy but it seems the staff was overwhelmed. Got on the road and was disappointed to find that they left out the sugar and there were only small bits of mint leaves.
