Dear Hubby and I stopped in after running errands on a Thursday early evening. They had Thursday Night Football on, which meant that we could stay and eat our dinner until half time, then head home. When we arrived, about 6 p.m., we were the only ones in the place. The young cashier at the register immediately sprang to duty when we walked in. He greeted us and offered to answer any questions we had about the established menu items, or the daily specials. His friendliness was probably the best part of the visit. The dining room is clean and bright; not really decorated in any particular style, which is too laissez faire for my taste. In thinking about why I didn't enjoy it more, I reflect on Snapper Jack's Taco Shack in T.O., for an example of what an inviting, fun atmosphere can be. Urban Taco's ambiance is bland, very vanilla. The food turned out to be only okay. We didn't know how big the tacos would be, or if anything came on the side. After we ordered one taco apiece, the cashier suggested that most people got for at least two tacos, as they aren't that large. I decided to order a gyro for us to split, as it was more than double the price of a taco, so I figured it would be more substantial. My salmon taco with mango salsa was just so-so. The salmon was dried out and didn't have much flavor to add to the mix. The gyro which DH and I split was more satisfying, taste-wise. The cucumber sauce upped the flavor profile. The meat, while tasty, and tender, was lacking in quantity. Unlike the aforementioned Snapper Jack's, which offers either a side of rice & beans, or a handful of chips, plus a generous salsa bar with accompaniments as part of each order, Urban Taco just gives you a taco, or a gyro. No sides at all. That was disappointing. A few chips and some salsa would have been appropriate. I wasn't interested in any of their beverage options to purchase, so we went with complimentary water flavored with lemon and cucumber. Overall, not the best value in town. Not "expensive", but for only the listed items and no sides, lacking in satisfaction. I don't think we'll be rushing back. read more

Tried Urban tacos for the first time and honestly it's the best tacos in simi yet. (Restaurant tacos) Wish they had some of the other meats like carnitas or lengua. But they do have salmon and shrimp. The restaurant tho it's nice and modern isn't very comfy, the ambiance is kinda cold. Service was great, tho we were the only ones there. Meats aren't over seasoned/salted so you can taste that the food is fresh and clean. The salas were ok, but not quite as bold/hot as expected but not bad. Taco Tuesdays is $2.50 for a taco, rest of the week a la carte taco is $3.00-$4.50 per taco. Plate specials very fairly priced as well all under $20. Great menu options, including brunch options, including fresh horchata, Jamaica, lemonade, hot beverages, kids menu, variety of sides and specials too. Easy parking. Facilities are clean, and staff is friendly and welcoming. Love that there is outdoor seating here now as well! Ordered grilled shrimp tacos. They melt the fresh cheese to the tortilla on the inside for these, so you get that slightly gooey slightly crunchy cheese texture and flavor. Sooo good! read more

Urban Taco is under new management and is now owned by the amazing chef who used to run the El Tacon 118 food truck. With new management comes an updated menu. For those familiar with El Tacon 118, you'll be glad to know their menu has basically been transferred over to this brick and mortar location. Same incredible birria, al pastor, tripa, asada and chicken burritos and tacos. They've also added several new (at least new to me) items like brunch options, kids options and beverages. The location is beautiful, clean and welcoming. But most importantly, the food is just as delicious as it was when they were serving it out of their food truck window. Always happy and excited to see a new taco place pop up in town. Urban taco is a cute little location that has the classics, in addition to a bunch of fun fusion tacos to try. In addition to that there is also some gyro and a suite of burritos. While by no means bad, not all of the tacos were created equally. I tried a few proteins - quesabarria, al pastor, pollo, and carne. The latter two were great, the former two I found lacking. The quesabarria lacked a good bit of queso, and the al pastor was served with pineapple chunks - but the pineapple was quite cold compared to the protein. read more

Came here for lunch for the first time right when they opened. Restaurant was very clean and the young lady at the counter was very friendly. I ordered one al pastor taco & one fish taco. They brought out some chips & salsa which were very good. The chips tasted fresh and lightly salted, the salsa was good, not too spicy. The al pastor taco was OK, it was lacking in flavor. The fish taco was better. I think it was served on a flour tortilla, I like my fish tacos on corn tortillas. I guess I should have tried the shrimp taco. I came here on my lunch break, as I work nearby. I hate to admit it, but I was in quite the rush and was not very polite. Despite this, the staff was so kind and patient. I cannot wait for them to get their Wine and Beer license so I can come here with my girlfriends; this would be great for all occasions. I would recommend this to anyone; it was very delicious. The place was very cozy and welcoming, making it a perfect spot to unwind. The service was quick, which is perfect for a lunch break. Urban Taco was a pleasant surprise with their tacos. While not the best on earth, they were certainly loaded with 100% fresh and tasty ingredients. My one complaint was with the corn tortillas. They didn't taste homemade, and in fact, almost stale. Plus, they weren't heated, which I would have preferred, to be honest... but what was inside of them was quite good. The carne asada was very tender and flavorful, and with the shrimp tacos, everything had great flavor... and solid amounts of ingredients. I especially loved the vinaigrette on the cabbage or coleslaw.... really delish. The rice had a lot of flavor, and the guacamole was solid. The salsa was perfectly thick, which I love, but I didn't love the flavor. It was smoky, which I don't like, and it had a very slightly sweet aftertaste... just not my preference. I didn't mark down for that, but just noting it for observation. The corn tortillas are what lowered the star rating for me. Those need improvement, BUT I'd DEFINITELY come back here because everything else was so well done. One more thought, the menu was a bit limiting, if not a little bizarre. I appreciate their wanting to offer choices from a few cultures, but they may want to stick with just one culture and more items from that one... but that's just my thinking. read more

Wasn't busy so we were able to put in our orders and got our food fairly quick. I ordered 3 tacos : tempura avocado, San Antonio, and their classic Al pastor taco. I appreciated that the tortilla was made fresh, and the tacos came heavy ! My favorite taco was the Al pastor. The San Antonio taco reminded me of a chalupa at Taco Bell. I stopped by here yesterday to grab lunch, I was looking around on Yelp what taco places was near my work and this one had good reviews so I decided to check it out. I been to the plaza this place is at since I went to the Chase bank so I was familiar with the area. Finding parking was fine but since it's near a 24 fitness, it might be different in the evening time. When I walked in, I already knew what I wanted since I looked at their menu online. I got the chicken burritos with no beans and asked for extra salsa. It took about 10 minutes for my burrito to be made and then I asked for some hot sauce. I asked the cashier for which one she would recommend and she said the habaera but I went with the standard hot sauce. When I got back to the office, I ate my burrito there and it was pretty good. They give a decent amount of chicken and rice so I enjoyed my burrito. It didn't fall apart while I ate it and the salsa gave a great taste. I just wish they had Pico de gallo since that's my favorite but it wasn't the end of the world. The only thing that confuse me was when I paid and looked at my receipt, it said Bluefin Grill and Sushi instead of Urban Taco. My score: Food: 5 star, I enjoyed my burrito and the salsa taste great. It didn't fall apart while I ate it and you get a decent ratio of chicken & rice. Service: 5 star, the service I received was great and the person working the cashier help give recommendations when I asked. Atmosphere: 5 star, the place is very nice and cleaned inside. We ate here for the first time today. The weird thing is that it used to be called urban tacos but now it's changed to La Hacienda. Well the service was top-notch. The food was delicious not too salty very tasty and the price was reasonable for a family of four we all ate for less than 50 including drinks. The only negative thing was the side of beans and rice that my son ordered was very small square dish not worth four dollars each other than that everything was tasty. My husband and I stopped here for lunch at about 12:30 on Friday. The first thing I noticed when we walked in was how clean and nice looking it is. It's not a fancy place, just a real taco shop. We have heard alot of good things so we decided to have lunch here. The young lady at the counter was so pleasant and helpful. There were only two people working there. The girl at the counter and the young man cooking. We did have to wait pretty long for our food, 30 minutes. I believe two tables had ordered before us because while we were waiting food was taken to their tables. Still I was getting a little irritated. When we finally got our food the young lady apologized for the wait so she knew that was a long wait and felt bad. Like I said there was only two people working on a Friday lunch hour. Anyway our food came and holy moly it was delicious!!!! My only problem at that point was that they didn't bring us a fork so I could scoop up all the goodies that fell off my taco while eating it. That's ok....I used my fingers. The meat was out of this world good and the salsa was so fresh and delicious. I think the tortillas are made in house and they were really good too. We had 3 tacos and a drink and our bill was around $13. Very reasonable I'd say. We will be going back for sure and I'm hoping the wait wasn't the norm... good thing we weren't in a hurry. I would have given a 4.5 on them if it were possible and the only ding on them was the wait time. Oh and my husband also mentioned the toilet wasn't flushing..... Eh... Unfortunate. Overall very bland food. Their menu is bizarre - greek, Mexican, Asian flavors and unfortunately they don't do any of them well. A few key things to call out: 1.) I witnessed the chef putting things in the microwave which of course is never a good sign. It was clear when we got home with our takeout order that parts of our meal had been in a microwave. 2.) The Birria tacos - horrible. The meat wasn't seasoned at all and there wasn't any sign of consume to be found? Basically unseasoned shredded beef and cheese in a tortilla. 3.) The Korean beef tacos were awful. Meat was hard as a rock, luke warm, and over dressed with a store bought sauce. 4.) Beans, rice, and guacamole. All SO bland and didn't taste remotely homemade. 5.) Al pastor was pretty decent, but the tacos were stone cold. There seems to be absolutely no passion here. Very bland basic food with zero soul. read more

I had the best shrimp tacos ever. Incredible flavor, lots of shrimp and the tortillas were unique...like nothing I've ever had before. The gentleman that greeted me was really kind and friendly. Looking for new place to eat lunch, tried Urban Taco. Who doesn't like a taco? This place appeared to be different and clean food. I tried for tacos. Tempura taco, Baja taco, Shrimp taco and Salmon taco. Home made tortillas were a big plus. Fresh veggies topping the tacos i appreciated. When i eat a taco it is usually greasy and not the cleanest food. These tacos are clean and have good flavor to complement the fresh veggies. I rate the tacos different from the norm, they are okay. Although they are not also your momma good, I will go back to try other tacos i did not try today. This place will defiantly get a round two from me. read more

I was in the area and decided to give it a try. From the outside, the restaurant doesn't look Mexican at all since they don't have any of the usual colorful Mexican decorations, but it is ok as they have a different concept. Inside was absolutely clean and impeccable. The staff is nice, but as this is a restaurant you come for the food, and the food wasn't good. I can only speak for the asada tacos, and the problem here is that the meat was undercooked. There was no flavor, so the tacos weren't good. Restaurants in Simi Valley definitely have to improve a little bit more. I love this city and I don't like to write this type of review, but it is definitely necessary. Please, owner, take this as your area to improve. Keep the place clean and keep being nice to the clients, but please cook your tacos well. read more

Great food and excellent service!   My daughter and I visited Urban Taco today and had a wonderful experience.  My daughter, who is a picky eater, asked for something not on the menu.  The owner overheard her,  jumped in, and figured out how to accommodate her request.  He then checked on us and other restaurant patrons several times to ensure we were enjoying our meal.   In a world where so many businesses only want to do the bare minimum, Urban Taco was a pleasant surprise!  If you are in the area, I highly recommend you check them out! read more
